Let's start with the negatives... First time we attempted to come by they were closed. So we had to wait to try Mike's Grillhouse. Staff was super friendly, went out of their way to make sure the tables were tidy, and refilled drinks really quick. The restaurant is smaller than you expect it to be, but it is cozy, friendly, and not overly loud. We only had a 10 minute wait when we arrived and they were packed. Our waiter Kyle was on point, introduced himself and dropped the special of the day with gusto. If I hadn't already had a ton of carbs for the day I would have gone with it. Ended up ordering the scallops, and fried zucchini appetizers. Scallops are served almost like a soup. The sauce in the bowl was to die for. I'm thinking white wine, and lemon were the major components. It was phenomenal. Fried zucchini was super tasty and is coming home with us. I'd swear it was enough to feed 4 people. For mains, we ordered pot roast and fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. Wife loved the pasta and chicken. Surprisingly enough she ate it all, none to go which is super rare for her. Pot roast was fantastic. Mashed potatoes were on point, the mixed vegetables were amazing. When you get broccoli and carrots on the same plate and neither have a mushy texture it makes me happy Will definitely be back again in the future. read more

I had to go to Kaiser so on the way home we saw this restaurant. From the outside it looks big but when you get inside, it is a quaint place. The noise is a little high but not too bad. You can hear the music they are playing. Our server, Kyle, came out to let us know the special. He put our appetizers in before even thinking about our food. They were spaced out just right. He was also Johnny on the spot with refills and kept checking on us. Ok now onto the food. It was delicious! Hubby had scallops as an appetizer and pot roast for his main dish. I had fried zucchini and then fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. I like my chicken on the side so I only add what I want. This place is just down from the freeway exit and is only open for lunch & dinner. If you are passing through Modesto, get off and come eat some good food. It is totally worth it! read more

1 word - WOW! Came here 3/15. It was packed, but we got a table. Service was 10/10, super attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable - the whole staff, not just our waitress. My party was seated fairly quickly. Our waitress took all our orders by memory - we were a party of 8! I got the Chicken Marsala: Chicken, sauce, mixed veggies, mashed potatoes, and gravy. I started off with the mixed veggies - they were cooked soft, just how I like them. They were also flavorful! Not just regular ole steamed frozen veggies, they definitely were buttered and seasoned or something. Next, the mashed potatoes. I'm not a mashed potato connoisseur - matter of fact, I usually skip eating mashed potatoes when they're available. These mashed potatoes however were so flavorful! And it was not only the gravy doing all the talking, it was both the mash and the gravy. I was impressed! Lastly, the chicken Marsala. The chicken itself was cooked to perfection, moist on the inside & fully cooked - and with chicken breast, we all know how hard that is to accomplish. The sauce was incredible. I have never had any Marsala sauce as good as that. So much flavor, very savory. Altogether, the flavors worked together and worked perfectly. If only I wasn't an hour away, I would come here more often. I hope to be here again someday! read more

This was our first visit (suggested from family)...Food was good, it's very small and loud in there, the service was good - although our waitress messed up the check twice (second time we didn't even bother correcting her). Prices are higher than what is listed online. I don't think we would make a point to go back, unless it was someone else's request. Good place to eat. Clean restaurant with good service. I got the San Francisco Sourdough burger. I envisioned the old Frisco Burger that Marie Callender's used to offer. This version was not as cheesy. Good but not great sandwich. Their fries are beer batter which I'm not a huge fan of. My wife had the Chimichurri Melt. Seasoned tri tip with melted cheese. We went for lunch on a Sunday. Food was good. I ordered the pesto chicken sandwich and subbed the fries for a side salad. My friend ordered the chicken marsala. It was a full-on dinner-sized meal with all the comfort food goodness you want. My sandwich was good, but I think it could've used more pesto. It didn't stop me from eating the whole thing :) Parking was easy. Service was fantastic. Our water was refilled without having to ask, and the servers were attentive. Unless there's another room I didn't notice, this place is not as big as expected from the outside (or I'm just horrible with space and dimensions). That said, I can see it getting crowded during regular lunch and dinner times. We went when it opened and it was quite filled up with folks by the time we left. read more

We ordered the Turkey Club and the Tri-tip sandwich. The menu stated that the club was piled with turkey, but in reality there was only 2 thin slice of turkey. Unfortunately the bread was not edible due to the taste of old grease. I simply discarded the bread and ate the 2 piece of turkey and bits of bacon. My son enjoyed the Tri-itip, but again the grilled bread tasted of old grease. He enjoyed the fries as well. The service was good and the atmosphere was pleasant, but at these prices, and the taste of old grease from the grill, I could not recommend this restaurant. Very good restaurant. Service and food is really good. They have sandwiches, wraps, steaks, chicken and pastas. Chicken fried chicken with veggies and mashed potatoes is probably my favorite. I haven't ever had a bad meal here. Nice little spot with good food and service. read more

This was my 2nd time visiting Mike's Grillhouse, so I figured I should probably capture my thoughts on my experiences here. Let's dive in... Ambiance - The ambiance is nice at Mike's Grillhouse. They are able to accommodate groups large and small, and the atmosphere is family friendly. It's a bit noisy inside, so don't expect an intimate atmosphere. They have TVs with sports going as well. Service - The service was great! Refills were handled without having to ask and all staff were interacted with were very friendly. 5-star service. Food - The food was just okay. I had the fish and chips and found the fish to be kinda bland. The fries were great, though. I heard similar comments from others around the table about the food just being OK. Overall, there's a lot to like here. But now having had just two average meals, it's probably not somewhere I'd go out of my way to go to on my own. The service shines, but sadly the food just isn't at that same level. read more

Stopped by Mike's Grillhouse for lunch with a friend today and it was a great experience. Morgan and the additional wait staff (I forgot their names) were very friendly and provided excellent customer service. The restaurant was clean and spacious, and located in a central area. I ordered a Grilled Chicken with mango salsa dish and it was tasty. The chicken was slightly dry, but the mango salsa was a nice addition and the steamed veggies were good too. My friend had the chicken tenders with fries, and those were yummy as well. We spent a while eating and catching up, and were also given a free dessert, which was very kind and unexpected. The berry cobbler with ice cream was delicious and a great way to end a fun lunch. Definitely recommend dining at Mike's Grillhouse if you're visiting Modesto. read more

Mike's is a great place to have lunch or dinner. We were there for dinner. They also have take out and likely delivery. The place is spotless. It is also comfortable and not too loud. The bathrooms are nice and the entire place is well kept up. The service was fast and friendly. You are not rushed, but they will check on you, which is great. We ordered several things and loved them all. We had a few of their starters. We loved the crab cakes. It has roasted red pepper aioli and a side of mango salsa. So tasty. We also tried their sautéed scallops which comes with some lovely French bread. We moved on to a Southern steak salad, which was wonderful and could be a whole meal. It has chopped romaine, grilled sirloin steak, shredded cheddar, tomatoes, crispy onion strings, and cabbage blend, with a spicy ranch dressing. It was not too spicy and they cooked the steak the way I wanted it. Their Mandurian chicken salad was my favorite. It has romaine, mandarin oranges, grilled chicken, wonton strips and cabbage in a tasty mandarin dressing. For our mains we had a wonderful chicken penne with a real good Cajun seasoning with parmesan sauce. Needs a little more chicken, but it was very good. Their fish and chips were perfect. The fish batter was so perfect, cooked just right and we loved the fries. We finished sharing a chocolate brownie with a wonderful served ala mode with whip cream, chocolate and raspberry sauce. The raspberry sauce was ever so good. We loved it all and will be back. read more

This was a by chance lunch stop based upon time and other reviews that happened to popup at the top of my Yelp... Total score, we definitely made the right choice. This was a cozy little bar-type atmosphere with a bar up front and tvs to turn to if you happened to be interested; their presence was not overwhelming though, so hubby was able to enjoy a bit of the game without my feeling like that part of the environment trumped the rest of it and there was no room for conversation... Perfect compromise. The wraps we got were FANTASTIC... We both shared bites of the others and I can definitively say that they were a great choice. I've been in the mood for a good burger for a while and found myself near Mike's around lunchtime. What luck! I'm certain Mike's knows how to make a great burgar, right? Right? Hmm, not so much. I ordered a cheese burger, medium rare, with cheddar, mayo and ketchup. At first glance it looked good, and then I actual tasted it. No mayo, drowning in ketchup, not a single grain of salt or pepper to season the patty and way, way, way overcooked. On top of it all it cost $20.95 for a takeout order with no drink. Really disappointing. In the pros side, the fries were really good, seasoned, hot and nice and crispy. The ranch was good, too. The Great Gal and I enjoyed a nice lunch at Mike's Grillhouse in Modesto. Service by Kyle was absolutely superb. We split a yum Patty Melt with great fries. Also, had a cup of clam chowder, which we both felt was too thick, allowing the taste of the flour thickener to dominate the flavor of the clams. Kyle very graciously accepted these comments. The restaurant was absolutely packed attesting to its popularity. We will definitely drop in again when trekking to Modesto. FYI - Alcohol here is beer and wine only. read more

Decided to choose MGH today for lunch after our JW meeting... we were greeted & seated within mins ... ( even thou it was a full house ) our servers were very attentive the whole time we were there the wifey chose a cup of their clam chowder and I had their Chicken Club Wrap w/fries . and a $4 Pepsi ‍ ... other than OVER PRICED SODA. ... The food was great !! Chowder was tasty & the wrap was stuff'd full of tasty goodness...some red onion would have beed a nice addition .. fries were nice an crispy w/good flavor... They make them fresh then chill them (many kitchen nightmare episodes like this). Why not make them to-order?... so much better fresh made! Stop by to celebrate our anniversary at our favorite restaurant. The food was amazing. I had the chili and cheese toast, my hubby had a sourdough burger. As busy as it was, they made sure they always checked on us to see how we're doing and managed to chitchat with us a little bit. The seating area was very comfortable. We started with crabcakes and then had the ribeye. Oh my gosh We loved everything about this resturaunt. The staff was amazing. The food was incredible. Had an out of town guest and was in the area. Had only been here once before. Great to see a local business so busy on a Tuesday night. We were told 20 minutes and were seated within 15. This restaurant was terrific from the service to the food. We were in town for a softball tournament and wanted a good sit-down dinner. Mike's menu seemed to have something to please everyone. It was a Saturday night so we expected a bit of a wait. Sure enough there were people waiting, but things seemed to be moving quickly. We were soon seated and knew what to order. We were a table of four. We got the filet, spicy chicken pasta, fettuccine Alfredo, and blackened mahi mahi. I loved seeing mahi mahi on the menu because it's a rare find at restaurants. The dish sizes were perfect. Everyone loved their dish and finished it all up. We didn't have room for dessert. The entire staff was very friendly. The owner or manager greeted us very nicely and even checked in on us by name halfway through our meal. Our waters were always being refilled and we were being checked on throughout the night. Dissapointed with the restaurant. I called around 3:00pm asking if they were open and I was told that they closed at 5:00. I wanted to take my family for a nice meal and good family time. We rushed to make it as early as we could after work as it would take us 30 min to make it there. Got there at 4:25 but once inside they told us that the kitchen closed at 4:30. Signs were still ouside, doors open, but they would still not take us. They should have told me this when I called earlier. Frustrated and dissapointed of time wasted as we could have gone to a different place closer to my city or somewhere else. I guess, I will be looking at other restaurants. read more
