A Great family owned and managed Greek restaurant...the white bean soup was fabulous. I had the lamb...sooooo good and filling. I highly recommend this place. They have wine and beer, as well. Fair prices excellent portions. I had Greek Ice tea.

Papachinos truly is one of Modesto's hidden gems. Family owned and operated they really are part of the heart of downtown and their homemade sauces and dishes are AMAZING. We went in after the lunch rush on Saturday and were sat very promptly, I had been craving Mediterranean food all week and knew just the spot. I couldn't decide between gyro, chicken, or falafel so I got a little bit of everything. Know that when you dine here you may wait a bit but that's it because it is all made to order and every bit of flavor and love is being made on the spot. The restaurant itself is very spacious with lots of local happenings being advertised in the windows and lots of Mediterranean art is hung all throughout. If you're looking for great quality and amazing service be sure to check them out.

Pesto chicken with zoodles instead of traditional noodles and the white bean soup!

I'm gluten free and this dish absolutely made me so happy! Soup too! The service is amazing and I feel so comfortable walking in and eating. I will be back! Thank you!!

Receipt for a small bowl of soup and non-gluten free marinara

TLDR; avoid at all costs if gluten free. I'm writing this after being totally shocked by the bad service specifically for gluten-free individuals. The server said that they had gluten-free marinara. They then proceeded to deliver a bowl of regular pasta. When I asked if it was gluten free the (different) person serving the meal appeared shocked and indignant, and said it was not. When I stated that the marinara order was specifically recommended as gluten free, they said they would remake it. They brought out a bowl of shredded carrots and zucchini with a red sauce. Unfortunately when my daughter tried it, she said it was inedibly spicy and vinegar-tangy. I tried it and confirmed - we asked to switch to a soup and they said they would need to charge us for an extra marinara if we wanted to switch to the large lemon chicken soup. We asked the server if they were really planning to charge us, they asked management, came back and said yes. We paid and left. What a fiasco - avoid! And they told our fellow diners we should have spoken to a manager, but our server already had asked them what to do.

Fries

On my mission to try all these places I haven't tried. This was one of my stops. I ordered via Door Dash. The gyro and fries were good, nothing to write home about. You can look at the picture and see this is not a traditional looking gyro. I was disappointed in the amount of fries. You can count them in the picture and no ketchup was provided. The falafel is a hard no. I grew up on falafel, and these are in no way good falafel. For $30, I expected more. I may or may not try this place again.

Veggie Plate

FOOD: I enjoyed my food. My rice was a little cold compared to the veggies on top. I enjoyed the freshly made falafels. The pasta was a little too salty for my partners taste. ATMOSPHERE: It's a unique setting mainly tables for 2 and a few larger tables in the front. SERVICE: The waitress was kind PARKING: It's downtown so parking spots are limited however I found a parking spot within minutes VEGAN: They have a few vegan options

Spinach Pesto and Combo Platter

Great food. I had the spinach pesto and my boyfriend had the gyro and chicken combo plate. Both were delicious. The waitress was so friendly and nice and helped give me recommendations on what to get. It was our first time going there and will be back for sure.

Baklava

The food here was spectacular! We had the hot and spicy shrimp appetizer (forgot to take a picture), Renza pasta, sampler platter, and the baklava. Everything was super hot and fresh when served to us. We could tell it was made to order and was very delicious! Service was quick, kind and attentive too! We will be back to try more from this cozy mom and pop restaurant!

Good food, quality, and quantity. Friendly staff, they just need to get rid of plates and bowls with chipped around the edges.

I live in Los Banos, but I was visiting Ceres yesterday and decided to make a totally…read moreout-of-the-way stop at Protein House in Modesto. I checked out the menu online beforehand so I'd know exactly what I wanted. Their website is colorful, vibrant, and super easy to read. When I arrived, I was greeted right away with a smile by the female behind the counter. I built my own chicken bowl with the Swole protein portion, brown rice, five different fresh veggies, and added avocado (worth the extra $2.00). I also ordered the Chocolate PB Crush protein shake. They were busy with in-store customers, DoorDash, and online orders, but my food was ready in about 10 minutes. When I got my bowl, I couldn't believe how big it was. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and flavorful, and the shake was absolutely to die for. Even my two-year-old loved it - and he's a very picky eater. As an amateur bodybuilder who usually preps all of her own meals, it was such a relief to walk into a place and get a clean, macro-friendly meal without having to cook or bring my own food for the night. This place completely saved me. The environment was great, the bathrooms were clean, and the overall experience was excellent. This will always be a stop for me when I'm in town. Plus, I just found out there's a Turlock location, which is even closer to me in Los Banos - so that's a huge win. Highly recommend!

We had the country fried steak which was probably the best one I have ever had in my entire life! My sons had chorizo and eggs and the other one had chocolate pancakes, ham and eggs. We also got a Nutella Crepe because my youngest had never had a real crepe before. The food was all amazing. We cleaned every plate between a 47 year old, 13 & 8 year old! We couldn't stop eating!! The place was clean and for such a busy brunch we were sat very quickly! Service was amazing as well! The staff was so accommodating, friendly and professional! They were so hard working turning those tables over and checking on tables all the time. We didn't have to wait for plates to be cleared or refills of Iced Tea!! Like I said I can't believe I haven't been back to this place in such a long time but that is going to change!! I will be back as much as I can! My husband gets different things on the menu when we go and he enjoys all of them. The only problem I have is it is so loud in there because it is such a small and confined restaurant. And I enjoy the live music being played. It's just such a tight confined little place. And you have to yell to talk to one another therefore everybody else here's your conversation. This is not a good place to go on a date or to get to know somebody over conversation. That's why you have Galletto's or Tresetti's down the street. But if you wanna go and have a quick breakfast, then this is the place. Though wait waitresses are always very, very nice. And the prices are great.

Here, you order your food, grab a number, and find your own seat for the food to be brought out to you. We sat at a table outside to decide what to order. There were no menus available so we just had to search for it online before heading inside to order. Despite being third in line from the register, we had an extremely long wait to order. There was only one person running the register who also had to make the drinks, meaning the service incredibly slow. We wanted to order the five taco platter, garlic fries, chicken Caesar salad, and mimosa pitcher. Sadly, we were only able to get the pitcher and salad. The cashier told us "sorry, we aren't doing fries right now." Not doing fries? Every plate in the vicinity had fries on them. She said that because it was brunch hour, only food on the brunch menu could be ordered. We looked at the brunch menu again and literally saw garlic fries as an option as a side for the burgers/sandwiches. No where did it specify that you can't order off the other menu and both were available online. What bothered us about this is that we placed this order at around 1:50pm, and brunch ended at 2:00pm. I understand that we are not entitled to things on the lunch menu during brunch-time for items like the tacos, but considering the menu swap was less than 10 minutes away and they were quite literally were "doing fries" at the time, it didn't make much sense to us. The only food that we ended up ordering was the Chicken Caesar Salad. This one dish took a super long time to receive. By the time it was brought out, the three of us nearly finished the Mimosa pitcher. The waitress noticed we had no silverware and said she would go grab us some. Because of how the service had been going thus far, we placed a bet on whether or not the waitress would come back with the silverware. Surprise, surprise. She didn't. We had to go inside later and search for silverware ourselves. We weren't even able to get sharing plates which was upsetting since the waitress asked us if we would be sharing the salad. The salad itself looked delicious, but was bland. The dressing was missing that zing and zest that a Caesar dressing typically has. I do appreciate that is was a chopped salad, had avocado, and seasoned croutons. It is just unfortunate that it was lacking any flavor at all. The food prices are quite affordable for the quantity of food you receive though. This experience was disappointing because I was so optimistic about the place. The menu looked good, it had fun and casual vibes and a cool crowd of people. If Commonwealth worked towards better service practices, it would have been a more positive experience.

My party was seated fairly quickly. Our waitress took all our orders by memory - we were a party of 8! I got the Chicken Marsala: Chicken, sauce, mixed veggies, mashed potatoes, and gravy. I started off with the mixed veggies - they were cooked soft, just how I like them. They were also flavorful! Not just regular ole steamed frozen veggies, they definitely were buttered and seasoned or something. Next, the mashed potatoes. I'm not a mashed potato connoisseur - matter of fact, I usually skip eating mashed potatoes when they're available. These mashed potatoes however were so flavorful! And it was not only the gravy doing all the talking, it was both the mash and the gravy. I was impressed! Lastly, the chicken Marsala. The chicken itself was cooked to perfection, moist on the inside & fully cooked - and with chicken breast, we all know how hard that is to accomplish. The sauce was incredible. I have never had any Marsala sauce as good as that. So much flavor, very savory. Altogether, the flavors worked together and worked perfectly. If only I wasn't an hour away, I would come here more often. I hope to be here again someday!
