Food was delicious! I had the Gyro and it was so flavorful and fresh. The bread was warm but firm and the sauce was fresh tasting and the tomatoes brought it all together but of course the star of the Gyro was the meat Black Stone Burger was full of flavor! I didn't get the whole burger just the Patty, but that was more than enough, highly recommend. The service was great, very friendly and very attentive. This used to be my absolute favorite Mediterranean place. The first time I came in, the woman owner was working and the food was incredible--honestly some of the best I've ever had. Everything tasted fresh and gourmet. Because of that experience, I've kept coming back, but the last three visits have been really disappointing. Each time my order has had mistakes or requests ignored. My most recent visit was especially frustrating--my $17 falafel plate had barely any rice and the rice was hard. I asked for my salad dressing on the side and it came already on the salad, and when I asked for another one it felt like they really didn't want to give it. They also forgot my fries again. My falafel wrap was also wrong. I specifically asked for no onions and it came with onions, and the wrap itself was sloppily made with barely any lettuce or sauce--mostly just falafel and onion. It honestly seems like the experience depends on who is working in the kitchen. When the woman owner is there, everything is amazing. When she isn't, the quality and attention to orders seems to drop a lot. I've kept giving this place another chance because I know how great it can be, but spending around $60 and having these issues repeatedly is really disappointing. read more

Papachinos truly is one of Modesto's hidden gems. Family owned and operated they really are part of the heart of downtown and their homemade sauces and dishes are AMAZING. We went in after the lunch rush on Saturday and were sat very promptly, I had been craving Mediterranean food all week and knew just the spot. I couldn't decide between gyro, chicken, or falafel so I got a little bit of everything. Know that when you dine here you may wait a bit but that's it because it is all made to order and every bit of flavor and love is being made on the spot. The restaurant itself is very spacious with lots of local happenings being advertised in the windows and lots of Mediterranean art is hung all throughout. We've been here at least a handful of times and each time we are flanked by patrons before and after us saying "I'll get the regular" That's awesome! I want to be a regular! Unfortunately, I live too far away. When I'm stuck in Merced with only one terrible Mediterranean restaurant, we have no options but to go to Modesto. It's worth the drive. We usually eat here before a show at the Gallo or shopping at the Modesto mall, but we have been known to get it to go as well. The ambiance is great! On my mission to try all these places I haven't tried. This was one of my stops. I ordered via Door Dash. The gyro and fries were good, nothing to write home about. You can look at the picture and see this is not a traditional looking gyro. I was disappointed in the amount of fries. You can count them in the picture and no ketchup was provided. The falafel is a hard no. I grew up on falafel, and these are in no way good falafel. For $30, I expected more. I may or may not try this place again. read more

TLDR; avoid at all costs if gluten free. I'm writing this after being totally shocked by the bad service specifically for gluten-free individuals. The server said that they had gluten-free marinara. They then proceeded to deliver a bowl of regular pasta. When I asked if it was gluten free the (different) person serving the meal appeared shocked and indignant, and said it was not. When I stated that the marinara order was specifically recommended as gluten free, they said they would remake it. They brought out a bowl of shredded carrots and zucchini with a red sauce. Unfortunately when my daughter tried it, she said it was inedibly spicy and vinegar-tangy. I tried it and confirmed - we asked to switch to a soup and they said they would need to charge us for an extra marinara if we wanted to switch to the large lemon chicken soup. We asked the server if they were really planning to charge us, they asked management, came back and said yes. We paid and left. What a fiasco - avoid! And they told our fellow diners we should have spoken to a manager, but our server already had asked them what to do. read more

I came through for lunch, and was pleasantly greeted by all front staff :) you feel the family love here. The rice was plenty, fluffy and very flavorful. You get to choose an extra side of House salad, bean soup, or fries. Knowing I was already going to be carbing out with the rice and pita, I opted for salad. My salad was fresh and well put together. Next up was a side of falafel with tahini. The flavors were on point, but the consistency very creamy, almost like it was blended too long? I will have to try them again. The Tahini is perfect and paired great with the entire meal. Perfectly timed was my gyro plate. There was ample meat provided, and the rice was on point. A small amount of toasted pita provided. I also ordered the Chicken Brochette to go, sorry I did not get a picture. But my Mom said it was THE BEST chicken kabobs she had ever had. The rude customer service just because I was sitting outside of his restaurant, enjoying, lemonade from the farmers market and offered offered to order food. I have gone here a few times, I will not again after this last experience. Incredibly rude manager/boss. Unprofessional behavior all around. Her workers upcharged us because they didn't know how to use the cash register. I argued back and forth for 10 minutes to get my refund, all while no apology or anything just an extreme attitude from the person in charge. I can't imagine how many more people were upcharged due to this lack of training and competence. Refunded the upcharged items and charged me the actual price, didn't comp any of the meal despite wasting a good amount of my lunch break.
