WHY WE WENT HERE: - dinner THE LOOK (FROM THE OUTSIDE): - located in a plaza off the corner of McHenry Ave and Leveland Ln - located in the same plaza as Asian Market - shaded partially enclosed outdoor patio THE LOOK (FROM THE INSIDE): - intimate lighting; elevated casual/fine dining THE MENU: - appetizers - soups & salads - pasta - entrees - grilled pita wraps - grilled sandwiches - pizzas & calzones - young and kids menu - side orders - desserts - fountain drinks - coffee WHAT WE ORDERED: - saganaki "flaming cheese" - Mediterranean chicken pasta - gyros plate - spanakopita THE TASTE: - complimentary bread - perforations on it were odd; complimented the table olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette well - saganaki "flaming cheese" - didn't realize the flambe would NOT happen tableside, so we were presented with the finished product; any kind of cheese situation is always a winner - Mediterranean chicken pasta - pesto was VERY good! creamy and lemony I didn't care too much for the black olives (I honestly only eat those in a 5 or 7-layer dip or on a combination pizza) - side salad - very refreshing and crunchy - gyros plate - well-rounded; good seasoning on the meat - spanakopita - good mix/ratio of the spinach to cheese to phyllo dough CUSTOMER SERVICE: - top notch!

Came here for dinner with a friend and had a great meal! Located just off McHenry next to the Asian Market, Papapolloni Mediterranean Bistro serves some fancy dishes with a Greek twist. The inside felt very fancy with dim lighting and tableclothed tables and booths. My friend and I decided to sit at a booth. We had to use the little table lamp to be able to read the menu lol We ordered: - Saganaki flaming cheese - This was supposed to be flambe'd tableside, but the person doing the flaming did it about 20 feet behind our booth so we missed the show. The cheese was tangy and tasted great though. - Spanakopita - about 6 cut up pieces of crispy buttery dough with spinach and cheese. Can't go wrong with this order. - Side salad with balsamic - great dressing and the veggies were very fresh - Gyro plate - tender gyro meat and the rice pilaf was pretty good! - Mediterranean pasta - creamy but felt the only Mediterranean thing about it were the kalamata olives Service was great! Waters refilled, we were checked up on, quick service. Overall great meal and we left feeling really full.

Everything about this place is unexpectedly positive. I don't know if it's the location that you don't expect this place to be as elegant as it is. Been here several times and we love it. From the service, to the food, just excellent! Someone always helps you to make sure you have water and bread so you're not just waiting for the server. The attached pics are from two different visits with the wife. She loves the Spicy Grilled Chicken dish. I am the meat eater, so I tried the lamb chops once. They were cooked perfectly and delicious. The ribeye was a Surf and Turf special, not exactly sure the exact name. But it was always excellent. We will definitely come back here again!

A group of us spontaneously stopped in to Papapolloni's recently. There are two rooms, the dining room and a room that has a small bar in it. Both rooms were pretty nice, the dining room is dimmer than the bar room, which makes sense. Our waitress was very friendly.  The food was good. We ordered 5 dishes, shared them.  The Calamari Fritti was good, and the dipping sauce for it was great. It has just a hint of spice. The pistachio salmon had a nice sauce. If you enjoy salmon, you may want to try this. The salmon was not over cooked, moist.  We also enjoyed the Chicken Piccata, although they spell it Picatta. The lemon pepper wine sauce was great, just maybe a little too much sauce for my liking.  I was pleasantly surprised by Eggplant Parmigiana. If you want to branch out a bit, I would recommend this dish. The eggplant is breaded. The star of the show was the Seafood pasta dish. All of us chose this dish as our favorite. It was filled with shrimp and scallops, mixed in a white wine and herb and served over linguini.  If you are ordering multiple dishes, one thing to keep in mind is they all came with mashed potatoes. I am sure we could have substituted a couple out for veggies or something, just didn't realize it when ordering. I also wish they had a bit more extensive wine list, however, it was great.

Wifey and I stopped by in the afternoon, super nice inside, dark setting and very quiet. It was our anniversary and Mrs. picked this place. They give you seasoned bread with your meal which they warm up. My wife ordered the Chicken Marsala her favorite and I ordered the Seafood pasta dish. Unfortunately they were both too sweet for our liking and you know I review a lot of donut and bakery locations. The service was excellent which is always a plus. The wife doesn't want to try again but I think everyone deserves a second chance and maybe just those dishes were made sweet. Well, I'll see if the wife agrees. I took some menu pics but they did not come out so good, hope this helps. Blessings

    It was decent.

The place is nice!! Its in a busy plaza. The service was excellent, the food was 3/5. Kinda pricey for what we ordered but none the less it was good. We had a god time and thats what counts.

Our granddaughter chose the creamy chicken and goat cheese pasta, my husband selected the lobster ravioli and I chose the crab cakes (I was pleased that they come three per order) and a side salad with bleu cheese dressing. We visited for a short while enjoying the delicious bread and butter when Sergio appeared with our lunches. I asked him if he minded taking a photo of our group and he very kindly agreed. We all enjoyed our choices and two of us took home leftovers. The atmosphere was pleasant and the service was impeccable. We were delighted to know they were still open for business. However, the Yelp info is incomplete. I asked Sergio if they had a website after explaining I couldn't find one. He suggested doing a search for Bella Italia and it should pop up. I can't eat a lot at one time, so despite some adverse reviews I'd seen online about the fried calamari and shrimp, I went ahead and ordered it-and I'm so glad I did! My hubby had the meatball sub-despite it not really being available during dinner hours, but he's not really a fan of pasta, so the waitress (and chef) kindly made special accommodations for him. We didn't ask, they helpfully offered to do so. Hubby said the red sauce was really good, and he enjoyed the sandwich. I felt bad because they appeared short staffed for the amount of business they had, and they had run out of a few things, but the pressed on gamely and made the best of it. It's quieter and less busy. You can tell the staff take pride in cleanliness and presentation of the restaurant. The pasta is definitely fresh/ homemade. I disagree STRONGLY with the other review that suggested it's pasta-roni style sauce. The ingredients are fresh and food was good. We've tried the Rigatoni, Gnocchi, Lasagna, Fettuccine, Lobster Ravioli, Mango Panna Cotta, and Torta Al Cioccolato and their fresh hot bread; all were enjoyable. When we've come the staff took some time to tell us a bit about the family history- passed along traditions and it's clear the recipes as well. This is a family-oriented legacy for these folks. And there's honor in that. If you're into just food, vibes, and low prices- this is NOT your venue. This is a place to celebrate a family (the owners) sharing a bit of themselves with you and yours. Note- people who complain typically mention price without thinking it's not just the food cost, but the lease, utilities, the insurance, staff wages. You're not going to get out to dinner here less than $60 for 2 (with a nominal tip and no booze). But THATS THE POINT- I'm thankful for the care, time, and heart that is put into each dish. We will be back and share this oddly-located, pretty tasty place with our friends and family.

It was Cesar's first time there, and I told him he wouldn't be disappointed. When the food came out, his portion was noticeably taller than the others, but I didn't think much of it at first. As we started eating, I noticed both Misha and Cesar pushing most of the pasta aside. When I looked closer, the majority of the dish seemed to be mostly ricotta cheese. Neither of them ate more than a few bites before stopping altogether. I politely let the waitress know the lasagna just didn't seem like the quality we were used to. She immediately took the plates to the back and brought us the bill, still charging for all three dishes. I asked if I could speak with the manager, and she told me she was the manager. I explained that we were simply disappointed with the meal and would have gladly shown what the issue was, but she told me the dishes had already been thrown away. She said she had shown the chef and that he makes it the same way every time. She eventually removed two of the lasagnas from the bill, but then came back and said the chef's response was, "If you never come back again, that's fine." That honestly surprised me more than the food itself. I've owned a business for 30 years, and I can't imagine ever responding to a customer that way, especially a returning one. I'm not writing this out of anger -- just genuine disappointment. We had always enjoyed coming here, but after tonight, unfortunately, we won't be returning.

I have been trying to come to this food truck for a month or so now but I'm usually in the area on the says they are closed which are Sunday through Tuesday. They also are only open for dinner on Saturdays from 4pm - 8pm. I happened to pass by during dinner hours on a Friday and immediately stopped. The dinner menu had a variety of items such as fettuccine alfredo, penne romano, penne pesto, shrimp linguini, chicken parmigiana, chicken marsala and many other pasta/chicken & fish dishes. They also had a kids menu, various sides and drinks. I decided against getting my basic fettuccine alfredo and instead got the penne pesto, I was told that the pesto is made daily and it's one of the most popular dishes on the menu. The penne pesto was so delicious, the sauce was creamy, nutty and had such a good flavor and was not too oily. The pasta was cooked to perfection and was topped with fresh parmesan and parsley. I definitely could taste that the pesto was made from scratch. The dish also came with fresh baked garlic bread that was so divine. It was light and airy, had the right amount of garlic flavor and tasted even better dipped in the pesto sauce. Overall, I'm so glad that I gave this place a try and I will be back when I'm in the area and craving pasta.
