Delicious lunch & dinner we went last week were going again Friday ! Hope there's live music

First things first, the place has nice ambiance and a solid bar, but let's talk about the food. The menu is all over the place. Lots of random dishes without any specialty standing out. I had a decent cup of clam chowder and ordered the NY strip. While cooked okay, it was a lousy piece of beef. The sides didn't help out much either. Really really good buffet. I dont like buffets filled with cheap frozen foods reheated and its not worth the calories. This was not that, it was an amazing experience. I loved the omelet and crepe stations, two of my favorite things for breakfast. There was plenty of good options to eat. I personally dont eat pork and would love non pork options for sausage and bacon but you can't cater to everyone's desires, I get it. None of the desserts blew me away but the over all meal was pleasant. The only thing that really bothered me was I told the waitress it is our first time here so how does it work. She said you can just start getting the good and bring to your table and she would get our drinks. I said what drinks can we get (as in whats included in the buffet). I had no idea we would get charged extra for every drink otherwise we would have stuck with water or whatever was included with the buffet price. We ended up spending more than $40 just on orange juice. I could have bought 8 gallons for that price. I would have never paid for all those refills if I knew I was going to be charged. I thought it was all included. There was no prices posted anywhere and there was no menus because its a buffet. That really bothered me for a long time and I wanted to ask for a refund for that amount to be honest. Life happened and I never got around to it. Other than that I did like the experience and would definitely do it again. I just wish they explained the drink pricing before you order. So please ask questions before your order your drinks, otherwise you might get charged for something you didn't know you was getting charged for. Now go enjoy, and you can thank me later read more

Tried this place out today for dinner for our wedding anniversary. The restaurant is located around the downtown area and has its own parking lot. There is lots of booths and chairs. The vibe is very romantic and has candles at the tables. They also had a musician playing a guitar which was really nice. My husband had the sandwich with ribeye (I believe) and I had the fettuccini Alfredo, both were very delicious and tasty. He also had a Hazy and they had many options, I had the smoked mango and regular margarita which were great! We also had the tiramisu for our anniversary dessert and it was very nice of the restaurant to have it on the house. The waitress was very friendly and speedy. Brunch last sunday of every month, best kept secret in modesto. Sometimes things come up and you gotta miss church; And sometimes it's better to ask for forgiveness. Amanda always keeps the mimosas coming and papi on the acoustic guitar knows my favorite gwen stefani songs. Eggs benedict and continual loaded omelets until Ive had my fill. 10 of us came in for a cousins' couples dinner, and it was a fantastic experience! The food was outstanding, especially the perfectly cooked prime rib. The appetizers, drinks, and dinner were all so good that we forgot to take any pictures because we were too busy enjoying everything. Go there for lunchtime with vendors or team. Love the ambiance and the location off the beaten path and with plenty of parking in the downtown area. Food is exceptional and my favorites are the lumpia and lettuce cups appetizers. My go to meal is the miso salmon bowl. I am guilty of ordering it almost every time! . Also love the salted focaccia bread with olive oil drizzle, and the flavored ice tea! All in all my favorite lunch in the area. Keep up the great work Chef John! read more

Had Valentines dinner and nowhere did they advertise their set menu or price. We were not thrilled to find out they had a set menu at $110 per person. Guess we should have asked. We were disappointed that our reservation seats were at the bar high top tables. And at the end where the staff has to pass when coming back and forth. Not romantic to say the least. We did count 3 couples leave after being seated and 2 couples left while the hostess was getting their seats. Other than that the food was good but not at that price. read more

Ambiance was a 5. Nonetheless, and it pains me to say...service was a 3 as was the food. I did the Prix Fixe and it was way too salty along with the initial serving of bread. Almost came off as though they were attempting to keep us thirsty to encourage us to order more wine. Literally, had to ask for refills of water. The dessert was a saving grace. Went on Valentine's Day. Doors opened 45 minutes after our reservation, no one explained or apologized. 15 minutes until our drink order was taken. After another 15 minutes our drinks still weren't delivered so we got up and left. The outside of the restaurant was unkempt, weeds in the walkway, very cold but the heater wasn't on. I took 4 months to write this review because I was so angry I wanted to cool down. Overall impression: apathetic management. read more

Absolutely amazing. My husband and I were going to Dustbowl brewery and last minute changed our mind and I will forever be grateful. Walking in to hear live music drew me in immediately. The staff was so friendly and immediately available. I personally like to eat pretty light and it's hard to find food that isn't bland when looking for clean, but they hit every number. From their ahi tuna poke to their cauliflower crust chicken pesto pizza I was impressed. New favorite date night place ever. read more

Overpriced, overhyped and understaffed. Just a FYI, these dinner entrees does not come with salad or soup on the side. The salads are not worth the price, especially the wedged one. Small and barely anything on the plate. Complementary bread and alcoholic drinks didn't come out until the main entree were being served. My table ordered the main entrees: seafood risotto, Korean kalabi ribs, braised short ribs, thai chicken curry and a poke bowl to go. The Thai chicken curry lacked flavor and the chicken was dry. The braised short ribs mediocre. I would not order it again. The seafood risotto was way too salty. Only the Korean kalabi ribs tasted decent. The dessert was delicious - crème brulee was a hit. The ambiance was dark/dimmed lighting and had like classical music in the background. P.S. I still do not understand that one SMALL shot of vodka costs $14. read more

Been here a couple times for their ayce Sunday brunch, and it's been well worth it. This spot has a nice decor, fine dining feel to it. The food during their monthly ayce brunch is amazing. When we got there, there was a line waiting outside. Everyone was courteous other than some customers behind us who skipped the line to say they had a reservation and told the staff where they wanted to be seated. We ALSO had a reservation but were politely waiting our turn in line (we were second in line). Unfortunately, the staff seated the other customers that skipped the line before the others who waited in line, regardless if they had a reservation or not. As far as the food goes, everything Tasted fresh, good flavor, lots of variety. They have an omelet station, crepe station and carving station, along with salads, desserts and hot item menus. They seemed to be either short on staffing and/or had new staffing because the line for the omelet bar was long, however, the staff was very kind and apologetic. The cook was having difficulty making the omelets, but I didn't mind the wait. With that being said, there wasn't anyone else available to carve the meat or make the crepes other than the one cook. The staff was still very polite and attentive. They were quick to refill our drinks. I'll definitely be going back. read more

Food was amazing as always. Went to celebrate a friend's bday and put it in the reservation comments. It was obvious we were celebrating her birthday. Was hoping our server would've made it special with a scoop of ice cream & happy birthday written on a plate (they've always done that for my bday) but she got no special recognition. I would've totally paid for it. Really wanted her to feel special as I have felt every time I've gone there to celebrate my bday. read more

What a lovely dinner we had here. From the subdued, classy ambiance, to the attentive staff, and the very flavorful food, Surla hit it out of the park. I had the Prime Rib, my husband had the Margherita Pizza, and our friend had the Salmon. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The service was attentive but not overly so. The pre-meal bread was warm, rosemary focaccia and was it delightful! For the final course, dessert, my friend and I each had the Crème Brûlée and my husband had a Root Beer Float! Again, we all enjoyed our selections. In fact, in my opinion, the Crème Brûlée was one of the best I've ever tasted! So smooth and silky with just the right 'crackle' and 'crunch' on the surface (and I've tried many Crème Brûlées before). In summary, you won't be disappointed in this gem of a restaurant! What a great end to 2024! Took some family members to Surlas in Modesto for New Year's Eve dinner, and it was truly a night to remember! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance set the tone for a fantastic evening. The service was exceptional--our server was attentive without being intrusive and ensured our group of four felt well taken care of throughout the night. The food was the true star of the evening! Every dish was impeccably prepared, bursting with flavor, and presented with care. We ordered several different cocktails to accompany each course and each one was better than the last. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and it was evident that top-quality ingredients were used. The highlight of the night had to be dessert--a sweet ending to a perfect meal. My husband and I decided to try this restaurant because one of our favorite restaurants(Fina) recently closed. Owned by the same owners, we decided to try Surla's. So we drove from Tracy to Modesto to try this restaurant. For a Saturday night, it was not crowded at all. Our server, Linda was very good. She did an excellent job taking our order, bringing water and drinks. She regularly checked in to see how our dinner was. I ordered a Bombay Sapphire martini and it was perfect. My husband had a glass of red Italian wine. My husband ordered the wedge salad and the Fina pizza. I ordered the miso glazed salmon with mashed potatoes. The drinks and food were fine. Nothing to rave about. The ambiance of the restaurant was no comparison to Fina. The music playing on the sound system was not conducive to fine dining. All in all, meh. It did not feel worth the drive from Tracy. The three stars is more for the restaurant and food. Our server was very good. We probably won't return. read more
