This place is TERRIBLE. Do not eat here. The wait was ridiculous. We waited 45 minutes for our food and one order did not look like the one in the picture. People came in and ordered after us and not only did they get their food quickly, they were asking for to-go boxes before we got OUR food. Customer service is non-existent. No apology for making us wait 45 minutes for a combo plate and rice and no apology for the picture being COMPLETELY diffethan what they serve. We were visiting Modesto, and needed to eat some food. We were near by the Kabul Express restaurant. We always try to support local businesses. So walked in and there a loud Indian music playing. We looked at their menu and ordered our food. Couple of issues with this restaurant: 1. Very loud and unpleasant Indian music which was annoying. 2. Very careless customer service. 3. When brought our food to the table, the staff never came by to ask if everything was ok. Very unprofessional! 4. The food portion was very small compared to other restaurants. Sala was full of onions. 5. Taste was not that great at all. 6. Hospitality is zero. This place needs to learn how to take care of it customers Never recommend this place to anyone. read more

We called ahead and ordered a few items for pick-up. Man on the line was helpful in answering any questions we had. We ended up having to wait an extra 15 minutes once we got there. The challow (white rice) was not cooked thoroughly, needed at least another 15-20 minutes. Their chicken kabob on bread with onions was flavorful and tender and the only item everyone equally enjoyed. Qabili (seasoned rice with lamb) was just ok. But again rice could have been cooked longer. We also ordered bolani, unfortunately no options for plain potato or a mild version. The filling was heavily seasoned and more of a desi flavor than your traditional afghan bolani. Food overall was ok, but there are better options for afghan food in the area. read more

It was a great find because the service was excellent, environment very clean and the food was delicious. I came here with my family for lunch since we were in the area and was craving Afghani food. The lady who helped us was really nice and made sure my family and I were comfortable. The restaurant was empty when we arrived but through the end of our stay only a couple people dropped by. It was a bit awkward in there since we were the only people there and all we can hear was the sounds of the freezer and kitchen. It would be nice if they would place some music to set the mood. My father and I ordered the chapli kabob and my mother and sister in law ordered the beef tikka kabob. We also decided to order Bolani for appetizer both potato and leeks. The chapli kabob and bolani were both very delicious! I don't recommend ordering the beef tikka kabob because it was not good at all. Stay away from that and try to order something else on the menu. Today I went to the restaurant with my family to celebrate my wife's birthday, Restaurant had "Grand Opening" written outside, probably because of a change of management/owner. There was no one to greet us even though I could see 2 people across the counter. We took our seats and went to the counter to order, i was told they are just 5 days old and they don't have any kabobs. So checked the menu without any kabobs, went back to the counter to order, chicken biryani - the guy said No chicken biryani today, ok how about one order of beef kofta- sorry no beef kofta today, it seems eventually they didn't have 99% of the items in the menu because as they were just 5 days old. So we ended up all having kabuli pulao which had one plate packed with rice and just one piece of meat half of which was fat for $13.99 each. On top of that they did not even have any desserts or starters. When I went to pay I saw that they have kabobs and they lied to us that they do not have kabobs. They were using the kabobs as topping for pizza's as they had an offer going on to buy one pizza and get one free. While leaving i said whether 1 day or 5 day old if you have opened the restaurant you should try to have most of it. The guy at the counter brushed me off as if I shouldn't have lectured him. New owners amazing food! We really liked the restaurant before the ownership change but during the pandemic a lot of things changed. I'm glad the restaurant stayed halal and the Kabuli Puloa is amazing! It is 100% Uzbekistan style and the bread is too! You definitely need to try it! Then I ordered the Mantu. It was very very good ! It was ground seasoned beef balls wrapped in a very thin dough that reminded me of dim sum dumplings. Topped with tomato, onion, yogurt ... I don't know all of the ingredients but I loved it. The bread was still warm from the oven. It was nicely crisp on the outside. I never had that particular bread before. I loved that too ! He served it with a homemade green salsa that was tangy and hot. I love hot and spicy. If you don't like anything hot then don't try it. My wife was working so I went by myself. I can't wait to bring her here. The prices are very fair. A lot of food, and honestly, I think there must have been at least five dollars worth of pine nuts on it. Those are not cheap.
