I was pleasantly surprised with the food. Loved the fried green tomatoes, would definitely order again. Chicken & waffles were ok, they were chicken stripes but that's what my son likes. The ribeye steak was also really good. The Huckleberry stuffed french toast was our favorite, first time having Huckleberry berries and it was very good. Taste almost like a blueberry and black berry mixed in my opinion. Plenty of parking, its located in a strip mall parking lot. The service was really kind and helpful. Good food but bad service. My dad and I came to try this Huckleberry's location on a rainy President's Day off. Despite it being a holiday, we only had about a 7 minute wait. If you have been to any of the other Huckleberry's locations in the Modesto area, you could see that the waiting area here is much smaller than at the others. The restaurant as a whole is smaller too with fewer tables. When we arrived, it was pretty crowded with people siting on the benching and standing around them. When we got the table, our waitress came by quickly to take our orders. I got the Louisiana Omelet with no tomatoes, hashbrowns, and a biscuit with gravy. My dad ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs with a side of pancakes with extra butter and syrup. The food took quite a long time to come out. It seemed like the employees were having too much fun laughing and spending time around the drink fountain. When the food came, my dad was missing his side of pancakes and extra syrup. He notified the person who dropped off the food and he went to talk to our waitress. I hear him say, "they're missing a side of pancakes," to which the waitress snapped at him quite loudly saying "well then get them pancakes!" We were almost halfway through the meal when the pancakes arrived, still missing the extra syrup and butter. I was satisfied with my meal though. The biscuits tasted nice with their heavy coating of gravy. During the week of Mardi Gras, the restaurant was festively decorated. I liked how there wasn't any overwhelming music playing. Everything seemed relatively clean and table condiments were full. I prefer the other Huckleberry's locations but wouldn't mind coming back to this one. read more

I had the Bananas Foster, my Mother had the 1/2 lb Chicken Fried Steak. The Bananas Foster comes with green fried tomatoes, eggs, and French Toast. I love this location. It's always clean. No sticky tables. Ice tea is always good in the jar glasses w/fresh lemon. The staff are ALWAYS friendly and welcome you w/a smile. the portions are large. Today, I ordered the garden scramble. It was absolutely perfect. However, they forgot to put the eggs in it! It was so good, I didn't notice til about 1/2 way through. they also let me do 1/2 & 1/2 on potatoes. I prefer the whole potatoes I decided. They immediately offered to make some eggs, but I passed. and she took the money off for the missing eggs at the end. I think I found my new veggie dish! Stopped in for a late breakfast after an appointment. We were seated immedately and Wendy was our server. EXCELLENT customer service, answered a couple questions and came back quickly with our drinks, hot chocolate for me, caramel macchiato for him and waters. The menu had a handful of items I wanted to order but I settled for the waffle with strawberries. My husband had a combo plate with bacon, potatoes and caramel pecan pancakes. We were very happy with our food. He got his potato with onion and pepper, added hot sauce and was impressed with the flavor. My waffle was light and fluffy, even with the strawberry compote on top. The whipped cream was amazing, thick and creamy. The themed decor was fun to look at. The dining room appeared clean and we had a great experience. It's a very better place to me then Denny's much more broader selections with their Louisiana twist. I had been going to the one in Tracy on 11th St. and didn't realize to recently that I had one close to me as well so and then the big plus for me is they have grits so me and the family will definitely be back. Service was solid with consistent workers coming to make sure we had everything we needed. But, with the exception of the flash fried okra as app, the food was really bad. My catfish poboy had little taste, the bread was already soggy when it arrived at the table and the sandwich fell apart after a couple of bites. The sweet potato fries were super limp and soggy. I tried some of my wife's chili and I've had much better out of cans. If your expectations for food quality are really low, this place may work for you. read more

I placed a phone order for the Mississippi skillet, I was told my order would be ready within 10-15 minutes, I arrived within 10 minutes and my order was already ready and sitting near the register. When I got home (a mile away) the food was cold, the cheese was not melted and the potatoes were undercooked... I tried the quiche and my friend had Egg tater and toast. Quiche has a nice spinach filling, the crust could have been slightly better - but overall 5 star. The egg tater and toast was okayish. This place is not good. We tried the beignets and my kids wouldn't even touch them. The were dense and not fluffy at all. The service was kind but they were not aware of the gross food they were serving. The ambiance is a neat southern vibe with crocodiles and the place appears clean thankfully. Wow. This is one of the very few times that I've ordered something to go and the flavor, presentation, and proportions are actually there! Recently moved into the neighborhood and sooo excited because as a traveler this is one of my favorite spot to stop at for some comfort food and now it's around the corner from the crib! I went to Huckleberries 901 N. Carpenter Rd location on Christmas Eve and I tried the Dixieland Steak Melt. It was delicious! Sweet-BBQd sliced Sirloin on grilled Sourdough with Cheddar Cheese and Onion Tanglers. It also comes with fresh tomato, but, my taste buds don't like raw tomatoes, so, I ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes as an appetizer. They taste like Fried Zucchini! The Fries were good and crisp, and the mildly spicy ranch dressing was perfect for dipping! The Huckleberry "Swamp" Iced Tea was wonderful! It is located in a somewhat busy shopping center with plenty of parking. Upon walking in staff was friendly and able to seat us immediately. The menu prices is about average especially for COVID as most everything was definitely reasonably priced.. Cajun style breakfast and so I thought to try something Cajun instead of basic simple breakfast and wasn't disappointed. The tomato gave a subtle freshness with the hearty sausage. The sauce (I was told) is made fresh and it was lightly sauced over a toasted sourdough bread. I didnt care too much for the red potatoes style hashbrowns... BUT they were seasoned perfectly. The drink was spicy and a perfect morning starter...for $5.99 can't get any better than that! Munchkin loved his waffles and ate them quickly. Chicken was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Listening to the other staff, everyone is upbeat and very attentive. I'm truly disappointed. I ordered a chicken fried steak breakfast togo. I decided to sub out the toast and eggs for grilled tomato slices since eggs and toast don't do "togo" well. The gravy isn't horrible, but it's made with link sausage. At least it's a bit of meat, right? The problem was the "grilled" tomato slices. They weren't grilled, and when I stated that to the manager, she was condescending and explained that they were lightly grilled on a flat top, so I wouldn't see any grill marks. Having worked in many restaurants, I'm well aware of what a flat top is AND how tomato slices look when cooked on one. The tomato was RAW. Arguing about how their food was cooked wasn't the point. That cook needs to know how to cook a tomato slice. I've been here before and thought it was typical Modesto chain fare, neither bad nor excellent... Preface this by saying I have been to the Yosemite location many times since moving to Modesto 1 1/2 years ago & this is my first visit to the Carpenter location. No wait at 9:15 AM on a Wednesday. Coffee & waters ordered to start. Skipped mimosas or bloody marys on a midweek day though they looked appetizing:-) Huckleberry's is a breakfast & lunch restaurant, no dinner, closing around 3 PM. Lots of Cajun cuisine & spices added to traditional meals on menu as well as standard fare offered & some unique takes on dishes. Items ordered are pictured, all standard breakfast fare. Eggs over medium were hard, medium steak was well done, the food was warm except the scrambled eggs & bacon were lukewarm. The food did taste good,.all plates were clean at the end. The other Huckleberry's had slightly better service for refilling coffee & water. Adequate seating if you have a party larger than 4, restaurant is a bit noisy but has a cool atmosphere with homages to Huckleberry Finn adorning the walls. No major complaints but customer service was surface level at most, we felt a little rushed considering it wasn't exactly packed (no wait when we got there, no wait when we left). My husband and I both feel full but not bloated full, just the right kind of full. We just left there and sat at table 24, seats could be cleaned better.
