My veggie omelette, hash browns and fried okra.
    Grady L.

I was driving and making a delivery in Motown and hunger hit me something fierce. I'm not terribly familiar with the area so I looked to old faithful...Yelp. I scanned for a few minutes and came up with two places. My Garden Cafe was one and who cares about the other. I arrived peak bfast hours but was able to grab a seat at the counter. It was like entering a room of new oxygen. The hostess and wait staff were all smiles and very accommodating. I was given a menu, what a selection. I opted for a garden omelette w/ ham my version of a Denver omelette, hash browns and they had fried okra which is one of my favorites. The plates flew by they were loaded with breakfast goodness. My omelette came...oh boy what a treat. There were tons of veggies, hash browns were perfect, I like mine only lightly brown and okra...chefs kiss. I couldn't finish it all so had more for the next day. Then there was another layer of goodness...they didn't kill my pocket. If you're in the Modesto area and crave breakfast this place will not disappoint.

I'm a little upset because I specifically asked the waitress to make sure no pork comes to our table in case it's in any of the original recipes. I ask that wherever I go because we don't eat pork and you never know what may have pork in it. My mom ordered the El Rancho Omlette. My mom asked for no bellpeppers, but right before that, I asked the waitress to make sure none of our orders have pork of any kind. NO PORK for the whole table. I didn't realize what my mom ordered, said round beef, then sausage in the description until I got home to do the yelp review and she didn't remember the name of what she ordered so I looked on my receipt to see the name so I can identify it in the pictures. I dislike it very much when people don't make it a priority to ensure people orders aren't 100% correct, especially when it comes to ingredients they specifically ask not to be included in their food. It is a religious reason and a personal reason we don't eat pork, and it just upsets me knowing it is in our bodies. I asked they waitress if you have a chicken sausage option, and she said no. I said, "What about turkey bacon sausage?" She said no. I said you really need to have other options for people other than pork. She said, "I know." Npt everyone eats pork. I couldn't have the chicken fried steak because the gravey has pork. Besides the highly upsetting experience of us being served pork and eating it even though I clearly asked for no pork. The good was ok, just ok. I got the crab omelet thinking it was going to be amazing because the description said real crab meat. But I actually didn't like it and wouldn't order it again if I went there. I asked for strawberries on my pancakes just like I asked for strawberries to be put on my nieces' french toast. But what I got was a few fresh strawberries, and they got a good-sized pile of whole semi smashed strawberries with the juice oozing on the plate. The price was the same. Why did they give me something different when I asked for the samething for all 3 of us. I'm not happy with that either. My order came with hasbrowns, and my niece ordered a side of hashbrowns, which was almost double what I got. I'm not happy with that either. $100 for 4 people breakfast is a little steep even with today's prices. I would have left no tip if I knew the mistake was made with the pork. I'm giving 2 stars and not 1 star only because the food was ok, not horrible. First and last time, I will be there because of the multiple issues. Not only for that reason, but there are better breakfast options in the area I would rather visit.

My kids love this place! The strawberry jam is their favorite along with the ginormous pancakes. Great spot for breakfast!

What a lovely place, it easily gets crowded though but we were seated soon. Service is quick & the staff are friendly. They have big servings but not overwhelming. The area is clean and noise level is minimum.

Country comes to town (this is everything you would expect if you were in an episode of the Beverly Hillbillies (70s show...research it). The decor is always country and the staff is as friendly as southern living. This day my fiancée trastes us to brunch at this great place (never disappoints). My bride had the usual chili verde (large potion packed with huge flavor). I had the garden omelette (the veggies were fresh and cooked to perfection, plump and full of flavor). I chased it with hotcakes and white toast and blue berry jam (ask for some to go...it's amazing). Oh! Dont drink the water (trust me...coffee is better...lol Bring the family and enjoy some brunch in the country right in the middle of town and remember..."Great CUSTOMERS get great CUSTOMER SERVICE." - Carlo

The food was just your typical diner type, greasy spoon kind of place. I got an egg white omelette with ham (looked like cut up pieces of thin sliced deli meat) and asked that fresh potatoes be boiled in water or steamed in water due to food allergy. What I got was fried potatoes. When I questioned the server he just said that's how they come. Do they not have raw potatoes in the back they could have boiled for me?? The taste of the omelette was meh and I only ate 4 bites. I obviously didn't eat the potatoes. The English Muffin felt oily, like someone touched it with greasy hands. I had asked for it to be dry and with no butter. So basically I didn't eat any of my food and will not be back (this was my third time here and none of the other experiences were any better.) Such a shame because it is only 5-minutes from my house. My dad ordered the chicken fried steak and my mom got the taco salad and both of their meals were inedible too. The food here is just BAD. I told the server I didn't like my food and he didn't even answer me. He took away three plates of uneaten food and no one asked if there was an issue and no manager bothered to come over to even talk to us or try and make it right. What a HUGE waste of money. Don't bother eating here...so many other places to eat that are so much better. This place was packed and no real waiting area...everyone just squished together. This is a hustling and bustling place, so if you are looking for a quiet spot, at least don't go when we did. Best part of this place is their wall for taking pictures. I think they care more about making things look IG worthy, than the quality of the product they are serving.

While I typically avoid paying premium prices for coffee, I decided to treat myself and finally give this location a try. Upon entering, I was greeted by a pleasant atmosphere and placed an order for three iced coffees, which I stated clearly. When my order was delivered, two of the drinks were iced, while one was served hot. I calmly and politely mentioned that all three were supposed to be iced coffees. At that point, I overheard an employee respond in the background with an attitude, stating that I had ordered the drink hot. I fully understand that mistakes can happen--orders can be entered incorrectly, and errors are part of any service environment. However, my concern lies with the dismissive attitude and the decision to challenge the customer's request in front of them. This interaction left a poor impression, and as a result, I do not plan to return to this establishment. I will instead continue supporting my usual coffee shops.

After discovering Lucille several years ago, I will now willingly take rides far from home, although the fares sometimes dry up in the Central Valley. I have been to Lucille twice by myself. I brought my Godmother once. I recommend Lucille to everyone who I drive when they tell me that they live in or near Modesto. Today I brought my boyfriend and my dog, who lives in the Santa Cruz Mountains. It was Saturday, super crowded and my dog was being super reactive with another dog across the way. It was super embarrassing and, although I am sure that it stressed out the staff, they were calm, kind and attentive. I was stressed and shrill, my dog was being a grade-A A-hole. I'm sorry Lucille! The beet salad at this place features fresh mint and I always get it. The chocolate cookie with flaky malden salt is very yummy. Their house coffee is very high quality and doesn't taste gross and burned. I didn't love my soup today. The bar was set pretty high with the carrot soup I had another time. Honestly, it was a small detail and this place is so much better than 90% of restaurants. They sent me another chocolate cookie. That was never necessary. I love you Lucille! One of the workers mentioned they do have kids menu options, but they didn't have the printed kids menus available, so if you don't see them, just ask when you are ordering. The Champions Breakfast platter was a great choice for our kids to share. It was one of the better fruit bowls I've seen, with a variety of fresh berries and oranges. The place is pretty small inside, but we were there on a Thursday morning so it was no issue finding a parking spot or a table to sit. I appreciate how kid friendly they are, even bringing kid size water cups with lids, and there are even some children's books on the shelf in the back. Such a cute little spot, I would have never known about it if I wasn't looking on Yelp for breakfast places in this area.
