Bbq Brisket Sandwich and clam chowder
    William G.

The presentation of the sandwich was amazing, very neat and picture like. The sandwich was good, wasn't a crazy about the bbq sauce but it wasn't bad. The clam chowder was really good and all and all, I'd return. Nice spot!

We had no idea this place was here! We were greeted by a very friendly, high energy woman behind the counter. Place is super clean and has a nice vibe. We had the chicken pesto with chips and the turkey cranberry with lobster bisque. The Bread was fresh and flavorful. They have a great selection of meats and cheeses. The chicken pesto was good, pesto wasn't too overpowering as some can be. The lobster bisque was full of chunks. A bit too tomato-y for me. Served Super hot with beautiful sourdough bread on the side. The turkey cranberry was good, just really skimpy on the cranberry. I could barely see it! I was disappointed with that. We will be back to try other items.

I'd seen on Nextdoor that they were open. Beings as I love sourdough bread...I have driven to San Francisco for good bread. This bread is good, it is fresh and the sandwich i got was tasty. I asked for a grilled cheese as nothing pairs with sourdough better in my opinion. I had grilled cheese, the only option was their flavored mayo so I opted for plain. My husband had the brisket sandwich. But... I'm not 100% convinced it's sourdough. Sour dough is sour, when toasted gets crisp and isn't usually a soft bread to eat...you usually have to chew... It presented like maybe a French/sourdough flavor? Or combo? If that's possible. The people were friendly, the inside was cute and reminiscent of being at the pier...food was hot, fairly fast considering they bake as you order. We spoke with someone after being asked how it was, and they gave us the story of how things are made etc. we added on a par baked loaf to go home and a couple of cookies which are huge! The food was good, 9/10 service was great 10/10 Atmosphere good 9/10z...bread? The reason we went today? 7/10. Since sourdough is in the title I was expecting more. It was good, but not great. The loaf we took home baked up quickly and good, this is closer to what I was expecting...but still no wow factor. I'm a self admitted sourdough snob, for my bday we've driven to SF just to eat at a good sourdough place...I'm hoping it was a fluke and the batch was off etc.

I ordered the bbq brisket sandwich and it was delicious. I was unsure about the coleslaw in the sandwich, but it went well nicely. The sourdough bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I'll be back again.

The food was good, but I got skimped on my "extra meat" I paid for. This is the second time ‍.

DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION- YOU WILL GET SICK! If I could…read moregive this place 0, I would. The reviews definitely don't reflect the actual service and food at this location. Starting off, my best friend and I were in Modesto for Barnes and Noble to get some books for my son. This location being right next to the bookstore was convenient so we went inside. The young girl who served us looked disgusted the moment my best friend said she'd never eaten there and wasn't sure how to order. She looked at her like she was stupid and just said what do you want and was not helpful whatsoever. She got the small poke bowl and I got a small donburi bowl. After what took over 5 minutes for her getting our two bowls from us, she walked away after I paid and I had to ask another worker for a lid to my bowl. Whatever, service sucked, maybe she was having a bad day? We sat down to eat (still hadn't gotten the chicken tempura and gyoza I had ordered for my son). Before my son's food even was ready I had bitten into a very bad piece of shrimp tempura that tasted as if the inside of the batter was covered in mold. I immediately spit it back out into a napkin and just sat there about to throw up. I sat there thinking this is probably just a mistake and maybe I imagined it. Then my son showed me his chicken that he said he didn't want to eat. It was old, rubbery, did not resemble chicken at all, and had black stuff around the chicken under the batter. I went to the worker who was at the counter and told her what we had received. She didn't seem surprised at all, but more surprised I wanted a refund for the two items that were spoiled. No manager onsite, apparently they usually aren't there. She called the manager who did not answer the phone but proceeded to text the worker. Asking exactly what happened several times and then proceeded to say the black on the chicken is seasoning before it's fried, which is not true because the come pre battered and it was just old. I had accepted no refund on the chicken for the ridiculous excuse, but I wanted a refund on the donburi bowl at the very least. The manager asked her to open my napkin and send a pic of the shrimp!!!! THAT IS SO NASTY! That young girl does not get paid enough to be doing all of that. That is revolting! I ended up opening it for her so she didn't have to so she could and a pic. Then the manager stopped responding to her by text. That's fine, Manager, that's fine. You should've just given me a refund for your nasty ass food that was not edible. Now you'll be receiving a visit from the county health department as they were called the moment I left your restaurant because of the food being kept at room temperature, your dirty facility, and the spoiled food you're serving to paying customer. This idiot sent me into my Karen era and I do not even care. Don't mess with people's food. Good luck.

While I typically avoid paying premium prices for coffee, I decided to treat myself and finally give this location a try. Upon entering, I was greeted by a pleasant atmosphere and placed an order for three iced coffees, which I stated clearly. When my order was delivered, two of the drinks were iced, while one was served hot. I calmly and politely mentioned that all three were supposed to be iced coffees. At that point, I overheard an employee respond in the background with an attitude, stating that I had ordered the drink hot. I fully understand that mistakes can happen--orders can be entered incorrectly, and errors are part of any service environment. However, my concern lies with the dismissive attitude and the decision to challenge the customer's request in front of them. This interaction left a poor impression, and as a result, I do not plan to return to this establishment. I will instead continue supporting my usual coffee shops.

My party was seated fairly quickly. Our waitress took all our orders by memory - we were a party of 8! I got the Chicken Marsala: Chicken, sauce, mixed veggies, mashed potatoes, and gravy. I started off with the mixed veggies - they were cooked soft, just how I like them. They were also flavorful! Not just regular ole steamed frozen veggies, they definitely were buttered and seasoned or something. Next, the mashed potatoes. I'm not a mashed potato connoisseur - matter of fact, I usually skip eating mashed potatoes when they're available. These mashed potatoes however were so flavorful! And it was not only the gravy doing all the talking, it was both the mash and the gravy. I was impressed! Lastly, the chicken Marsala. The chicken itself was cooked to perfection, moist on the inside & fully cooked - and with chicken breast, we all know how hard that is to accomplish. The sauce was incredible. I have never had any Marsala sauce as good as that. So much flavor, very savory. Altogether, the flavors worked together and worked perfectly. If only I wasn't an hour away, I would come here more often. I hope to be here again someday!

Unfortunately the bread was not edible due to the taste of old grease. I simply discarded the bread and ate the 2 piece of turkey and bits of bacon. My son enjoyed the Tri-itip, but again the grilled bread tasted of old grease. He enjoyed the fries as well. The service was good and the atmosphere was pleasant, but at these prices, and the taste of old grease from the grill, I could not recommend this restaurant. The bill was $39.97 and we did not have anything to drink! Go democrats! Lol!

My friend ordered the Beef Kabob (New York) plate with rice and salad, and it was fantastic. Tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. I even "borrowed" a chunk of beef from my friend for a taste test--no regrets. It was spot on. The Gyro sandwich was another big winner. It was loaded with meat--honestly, the amount you'd normally have to ask for double meat at other places. The meat had a nice crispy edge, and the lamb was seasoned perfectly. So good. The owner was a one-man show, hustling hard during a busy lunch rush, juggling takeout orders like a pro. Despite being slammed, he was incredibly kind and made sure everyone was taken care of. You can tell he takes pride in what he does. I also loved the unassuming storefront and the décor inside--lots of pride shown for our country and local law enforcement, with flags and service patches displayed throughout. It gave the place real character. Yes, we had to wait--but it was absolutely worth it. I can see exactly why this spot has such a strong Yelp rating. Bonus points for the solid daily specials too.
