Some of the best Indian chaats I had in the US. Great food. I would give 5/5 to Raj Kachori and Dahi puri. And 4/5 to Gobi Manchurian. It had flavor but could have been crispier. And the Sev puri was underwhelming - 3/5. The food will be served to the table once ordered at the counter and paid. Can get a little annoying if you want to order in the middle of the meal.

Randomly needed an Indian food fix after my friend made me brainstorm good restaurants in the area .... Great food and restaurant. This place has a exciting ambiance inside and is very inviting. The food was great too and very fresh. I got the dosa and sandwich. Very happy with both When calling in for take out be sure to confirm the order. They accidentally prepared another dish on top of the ones I ordered.

We were traveling from Austin to IAH and thought of stopping at this place for lunch. I didn't realize till I was about to write my review that I had been here back in 2019 and wrote a 5 star review. But today's visit was not worth a 5-star review at all. It was more of. 2.5-3 star rating experience. Tried chaat platter, which came with dahi bada, dahi puri, aloo tikki chat and sev puri. First the 4 compartment plate was not good for digging spoons in. All the compartments were very small. Spoons size too big. Aloo tikki was disappointing. Chola was cold not tikki was not crispy at all. Dahi bada was good, probably because of sweet yogurt in it. Rest two were ok. Next, we ordered chowpatty thali which came with 1 dal, 4 curries, 3 rotis, rice, gulabjamun, salad, samosa, lassi. Roti was nice. Soft and thin. Among all curries, only dal was good. Aloo was also ok but less gravy. Paneer, kofta and chola disappointed us, cold and no taste. We placed order for extra rotis. Separate roti set only comes with 3 roti, you can't change the quantity. First it took very long (probably because it was getting crowded) but also it was uncooked and thicker than previous. On the top of that, there a child roaming around (customer), he came and put his palm on our roti, probably just being naive and his parents didn't even care. We let it go. So overall not a good experience and not coming here again soon. Do note that they provide 5% discount on cash.

Amazing food - the chaat platter was amazing !! One of the best dahi puri I've had. Samosa chaat and Dahl vada were so flavorful too! The jini dosa was - perfectly roasted and crisp dosa w a delicious pav bhaji like filling. Washed it all down w some creamy mango lassi! Will be back!

My first time here as I wanted to try some Indian street food. Wow, everything tasted so good that I cannot wait to share this with others and go back!! I wish I could remember all the names so instead I will post pictures instead. Definitely get the "puff balls" - the texture is perfect for poking a hole to put the side ingredients and liquids in. I love all the flavors and spices in each dish! Definitely get the "strawberry yogurt" dessert drink. Beware, there are some thin clear noodles in the drink. It's unique but still tastes good!!

I recommend sticking to the Chaat items! Paneer chilli was delicious, the sauce was savory and has that indochinese taste. Whereas the Schezwan noodles was alright. I almost felt like I could taste the msg and the color used to cook this food. The Chaat is amazing, I will keep coming back for that but not a fan of the more wholesome food they have to offer.

The place offers a lot many snack option. I really liked the Pani Puri here because they give you option of either getting served in a plate or stand at the counter meanwhile someone makes piece by piece for you. It gives you an original feel of eating Pani Puri in India. Each plate has either 8 or 10 pani puri (I lost the count in nostalgia). The Puri was crisp as required. Interestingly they feel potato chana as filling and also Ragda (white peas curry) both. Usually in India, you get to ask to fill one only. So this was like double bonanza. For people who cannot eat spicy, they also offer to fill some sweet chutney in the Puri. We also ordered a grilled Aloo Matar Sandwich. It took more than 20 mins for the sandwich but it was quite the wait. I hadn't had Aloo Matar for some months now and it tasted really well. It was topped with cheese whereas the sandwich was grilled with perfection. Served with ketchup on side, my friend was hoping if they could also serve it with fries (too much expectations). There was some grilled cheese too in the sandwich which just added onto the taste of Aloo Matar. It had a bit taste of Dabeli masala, so I think they might also be using the same for Dabeli.

June 2021. I was looking out for some lunch options and chowpatty grabbed my attention. There was one particular thing on the menu that intrigued me - the chowpatty thali, with 4 different curries, lentils, rice, roti (chapati), papad and sweet lassi along with a desert, wasn't it a mouthful? There I was, on a weekday afternoon, hungry and waiting for my thali to arrive, and my god, was I just blown away by the sheer quantity of food at display for a single dude to devour. I held my head high, took my spoon like a shovel and dug at every curry, one by one. For my curries I had paneer, kofta, chole and potato curry (I'm positive about all of these). The curries had amazing flavor, the curries were rich, creamy and tasty. The lassi was thick and lentils and rice were an amazing pair. The guest of honor was the roti (chapati), so soft, fresh and hot with a pinch of ghee (I'm guessing). The desert (gulab jamun) was yum! I couldn't fathom the amount of food that I just gulped down in one sitting. Everything was just on point. I didn't get the papad that was supposed to come with the thali, and there was no mention for its absence, so negative points for that. Apart from that, everything else was perfect.

This is one of the places to satisfy your craving for Indian food. I love their chole bhature and aloo paratha. Everything over here tastes good. They can certainly improve the speed of their service but rest is great. Highly recommended.

Don't know why this place has 4 and 5 star rating. We ordered vada pav and pav bhaji and it tasted stale and flavorless. Never had such pathetic Indian food in Houston. Got fooled by the ambience and ratings of this place. Will never visit for sure. read more

As a teacher, I am constantly learning about new cultures. This year, my students learned about India. As I showed my students food from India I became intrigued. Last year I had tried a thali from Indian restaurant on Hillcroft, but unfortunately I was not so convinced. This year I was going to try again. I found this place on yelp. Upon entering I saw many families enjoying dinner on a Monday evening. Good sign. I ordered the the Punjabi thali, samosa, manho Lassi, and for my non-adventurous husband, the spring rolls. All of this to go. The mango lassi was very tasty and refreshing. My husband ate the rolls, he seemed to enjoy them. Onto the thali, it was a very huge meal. I was only able to eat half of the meal. Everything was sooooo delicious. I'm glad that I gave the cuisine a try again. This place convinced me. Unfortunately, I do not know the names of the dishes, but there wasnt anything I did not like. I am so fortunate to have lunch for tomorrow! Will be back again. Good service, clean place, awesome food. read more

Cute little place! I wish I had brought an expert with me to help me order lol I did all of my ordering using yelp pictures! Pricing was great for the amount of food. I was a little lost trying to figure everything out. The food was SuPER super spicy!! Like super hot! I'm not sure if there is an option to get someone not as hot. Nice little place with great ambience. Their sugar cane juice, ice creams and other chaat items are tasty, but a tad bit pricey. If you are looking for Vegetarian place and great ambience, it's a must visit. read more

I have been a customer here since they opened. Lately they have been acting really stingy and you do not get what you pay for. I ordered a kala khata soda and wanted to take it to go. They were only offering me small styrofoam cups which would only hold half the drink. The girl then tried to argue that they only had that one size. But they handed my girlfriend a bigger to go glass for her chickoo shake.... when I told her that she clearly has bigger cups the manager stepped in and try to argue that I could fit my drink in the small cup she was trying to give. They lost a returning customer for a darn to go cup. Good luck running your business like this. read more

With this place, it's important to understand what to order. It's not a south indian restaurant so do not think you will get a good dosa. The bhaturas are probably going to be a little oily. it is not a fine dining experience so the food will be hearty and the ambience is like a regular cafe. It is primarily a gujrati food place so order the puri undhiyu, shrikhand, vada pav, pav bhaaji, chaats and lassis. I've had all of the above and keep going back for the same. It is light on your wallet and the food is very tasty and very indian in terms of spice and flavors. read more

Playful Bollywood take on chaat joint. Well designed interior, good menu selection with few contemporary items that appears exciting. My experience here has been carry outs and yet to dine in. But food has been tasteful and hearty. Customer service is courteous and fairly prompt. Restaurants should offer ambiance, good food and experience and this joint appears to finding a good balance of all of them. read more

Excellent experience. Chowpatty is another jewel in the crown of the Hillcroft Asian food corridor. My wife and I went to Chowpatty a couple of weeks ago, and really enjoyed the food. We ordered a chat platter, which featured four varieties of chat. We also ordered a masala dosa, which was easily the size of my forearm (and much better tasting!). And then, in the spirit of over-ordering so that we could sample the menu and have leftovers, we also ordered one of the thalis, which featured about a half-dozen delicious dishes. The owner was very pleasant and helpful when we placed our order, and then came out to the table to talk with us for a while to tell us about our food. We spent about 5 minutes with him, and really enjoyed his company. Oh, and I also ordered a mango lassi, which was thick and creamy, just like I like it. One item for potential improvement: the rice was good, but not amazing (rice is not the focus here... this is Bombay street food). I definitely plan to return. read more

Most amazing - thick creamy Lassi!!!! Even the Mango Lassi is mind blowingly delicious! Their thali is big enough for two ppl! Great variety of fresh cooked foods. Saira helped me choose what to eat- all her recommendations were spot on. She was very patient and helpful in my order. They serve fresh pani puri. Like. Pakistani style. Clean Bollywood are the two words that come to mind first when I think Chowpatty. With the black and white modern furniture, Bollywood posters and random Bollywood movies playing this place is UNIQUE. Too add to the mix the food is on point and from what I've been told pretty darn good in comparison to India. I like the Punjabi Thali but it is on the heavier end so expect to be KO'd when you're done. If you want a lighter platter get the Gujrati Thali. The nan here is good but definitely not the best. A few things I had here which were super unique was the the Raj Kachori, to those who don't know this is a cold dish with a bit of a sweet/tangy flavor. Very interesting dish and I am glad I tried it because the presentation looks really cool. read more

This place is having really authentic food specially the punjabi thali is to die for. We ordered a punjabi and gujarati thali during lunch time and I would vote for punjabi thali as the best . However coming to the price, the portions they serve is good.Every thali is accompanied with roti or poori depending on the type . But for the prices in hillcroft, this place is little up end compared to others. However we are ordered for a to-go and the portions are sufficient for both lunch and dinner. I would suggest them to keep up their quality and work on enhancing the menu further to attract the crowd. Otherwise this place can be considered in a busy day. read more

This a really fun little place with a vibrant Bollywood theme, I spent most of my time looking at all the movie posters to count how many of them I had already seen... it seemed I have some catching up to do. The ordering process is very casual: look at menu --order up front and pay--seat yourself--food gets called out--pick up--FEAST. Complimentary sambar and bowls off to the side (this was somewhat odd to me... is this common in mumbai??) We only ordered the Bombay Bhel which was very flavorful!! If you are expecting table service don't it's not that kind of place but overall an adequately clean and fun space. I will say that the seating area is a bit cramped and it got quite busy while we were there they have tables that either seat 2 or 6 so if you have a party of 3 you occupy a table of 6 which is both inconvenient and somewhat of a waste. Being that it's located in the Hillcroft shopping center parking is easy and your surrounded by many other options for shopping, food and drinks. I think Chowpatty Chat is definitely a great option if you're in the area and craving some mumbai street foods. I will definitely be coming back to try more of the menu options! read more

I love this chat place.. I would say this is hands down the best chat place in Houston.,a lot of places tend to dump tons of red chilly powder in their chats but this place knows the right amount! Service is quick and prices are acceptable! I would stay away from the "real food" here though...I tried the chole bature twice and found the puri to be somewhat hard...pav bhaji is good... Also, I didn't like the mango lasso here..it was too dense for my taste..and had lots of sugar.. All in all, a fantastic place for chat..but maybe go to Balaji bhavan next door for other stuff ;) read more

The food is okay but the person who takes the order shows attitude and is rude! We have been there thrice and each time he responds to our queries in a rude way. We ignored that twice but looks like thats how he behaves with everyone all the time! He responds rudely if when you wanna ask him something about a dish or customize your dish a little. He would deny with a straight face and even laugh at you! Weird behaviour! read more

I just ate here today. It was VERY mild and not a single dish was spicy. We asked for spicy....they just don't use it. Pani puri lacked salt and flavor. The Bhel was mild and salty. The Pav Bhaji was so mild that it was a HUGE disappointment. Not one thing was favorable. Do your self a favor and go Elsewhere! read more

Absolutely delicious authentic food!! Specially Chhole bhature!!! The pickle, onions and the chilli on the side added a lot of flavor. The spice level was good! There are many better options in the Katy/Richmond area where you can find great food in a much more pleasant dining environment. The smell inside the restaurant was also concerning, as it raises questions about hygiene and food safety standards. For context, we visited on a Saturday morning around 11:30 AM, so it wasn't late in the day or close to closing time. Based on this experience, I wouldn't prefer to visit again.

Different, but still delicious and very satisfying. The restaurant is in a great location near Hillcroft in the Gandhi District, surrounded by other Indian restaurants and grocery stores. Service is friendly, prices are reasonable, and there's plenty of parking in the large shared lot. A solid spot for dosas, puris, and quick Indian bites.

Be careful as the chicken 65 (mini fried chicken bites) have spiciness to it with a good amount of chili powder and pepper kicked in. The goat curry was alright, don't know if I would order it again as the grease was overwhelming. I wasn't a fan of the palak paneer, found it too runny and it was leaking when it was delivered to us. Also the garlic naan was a bit hard in the middle; maybe it's due to the packaging? Wouldn't mind ordering here again but we'll definitely do some different items. Hopefully the samosas and chicken 65 are still on the BOGO status cause we'll definitely take those again.

I visited Chowpatty Chat Cafe with my family on a Saturday evening and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of the food. The restaurant is located in a busy area, but there is plenty of parking space around it. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the service was quick and efficient. We ordered a variety of dishes, such as dahi puri, pav bhaji, samosa chaat, paneer tikka masala, and masala dosa. All of them were delicious and authentic, with the right balance of spices and flavors. The portions were generous and the prices were reasonable.
