    As far as I got
    Teresa M.

We arrived 10min prior to opening & a line formed quickly behind us. The doors opened & in we poured to smiling faces & immediate seating. Service started right away, Granted, this was a new experience for me - I can't speak to authenticity or even tell you what we ate or if we ate it correctl. . I can tell you that I LOVED IT. I was mixing things & trying flavor combinations. Perhaps the most impressive thing was that, for the first time I ever, I did get seconds on tofu! I didn't have to guess on what to order. Fantastic! I waved off the never-ending ladles many times or I'd probably still be there eating from bottomless bowls. It came to $112 for our party of 4 adults, which we thought was reasonable. The service was fantastic. The manager/owner (?) stopped by several times to check-in & encouraged us to eat more & skip work. Ha - staff were friendly & welcoming. If you leave here hungry, it's on you! The food starts the moment you are seated & doesn't stop until you call it. We are thrilled with our first stop after landing.

I adore Maharaja Bhog - it is one of my top five restaurants in Houston. Their all you can eat thali experience is a journey through healthy vegetarian delights that present a complex variety of tastes - all delicious. The service is friendly and the dining room clean. Highly recommend!

I have no words to describe how much I recommend this place. The absolute food coma. Make sure to go sufficiently hungry, as they will keep serving you. The manager is the same person I've seen years ago when I was doing fellowship here. The super soft chapatis, puri, many veg curries, the khichdi and rice, dal bhati churma.. good god. Just heavenly food.

Mediocre taste. The unlimited part of the thali was pretty cool and the service was not bad. The dessert - basoondi was delicious. But very mediocre food for the price. Definitely overpriced and overrated. Also, the quality of food and service deteriorated over the years. And the manager is really rude. The restaurant closes at 3 pm but he was rushing us out and the rest of the tables before we could finish, at 2:40 pm. And the experience is not enjoyable. The whole staff is constantly hurrying you up.

This place is incredible! And also a vegetarian's dream. The food is authentic and so is the experience. You're served thaali style - it's a set menu that everyone gets and it's essentially a served vegetarian buffet for $25/person. Waiters will come around and refill your plate based on what you want. The line outside this place during weekend lunches is pretty crazy, so I'd get there early. They run this place like a machine - you come in, eat, and leave. And the service parallels that. So as long as you come in expecting that, you'll have a great experience! I have friends and family who visit from out of the state just to go to this restaurant!

Maharaja Bhog has consistently been a reason for us to drive from Austin to Houston for some great quality Indian food. I think the experience in Houston for Indian food is so diverse and this place is no exception. Ambiance is great. I love the concept of Thalis and the servers are super generous in service always offering more and more. Certain dishes are standouts, like the basundi and the cutlets but I've noticed that this time a few of the curries are bit oilier than before. I think the dal baati and churma are nice and they have a regular dal and kadhi which are good with the plain rice. However I have to knock off one star because the host stand was really trying to rush us out giving us the check while I was still eating and trying multiple times to clear my plate as well when my husband was in the bathroom. I know there is a rush and want to be mindful of that but it just makes me feel a bit frustrated when the business is looking to turn over my table specifically when they wait on other tables to finish before giving them the bill. Overall I think the experience is good, and would definitely return but would love to come and not be rushed out!

I have been inhaling the delicious vegetarian food every time I drop off stuff at Goodwill behind Mahabharata Bhog during Covid pandemic. They had been operating and never close. Fast forward to 2023! I was grateful that I finally got a chance to eat here. I came here for a friend's birthday. We had lunch $22.99 was well spent. Because of their all you can eat in the format of bringing food to you, instead of get up and walk over to the buffet line. I have consumed enough Indian food, I could literally explain it to my friend as the food placed on our trays. My favorite part of meal was the variety of starches. I can ask as little or much as I want.

I love Maharaja Bhog! Amazing service, the owner is very friendly and inquires about any dietary restrictions to accommodate. They specialize in the thali which is basically an all you can eat plate where they keep refilling all the items until you're full. Everything was delicious! I recommend coming here for a late lunch (and skipping breakfast) or early dinner so you can actually make the most out of it.

Loved the dishes! Everything on my plate was so good and the ambiance was amazing - makes you feel truly like a king or queen with quality ingredients and service. A must visit in Houston!

    Is the menue all vegetarian?

    Yes

    Do u have kids thali?

Yes, they do and it's bit cheaper and fewer items. They also get non spicy curries.

Do they post their daily menu somewhere?

    Do they take reservations?

    Is it BYOB?

Really sorry we are not BYOB.

Will be visiting this weekend for the first time w/ husband & two guests. In your experience, when is the best time to go? Our options are Saturday lunch/dinner, or Sunday lunch/dinner. We don't mind a bit of a wait but would prefer less than 20 min.

Thank you for choosing Maharaja Bhog. Your best option would be Sunday Dinner. It’s not as crazy like a Saturday. Looking forward to seeing you. Thanks.

What is the brown flakes? its not in a bowl but on the plate How is suppose to be eaten?…

To add crunch texture to your thali, from what I've understood, since so many have similar texture.

When do they typically serve Aam ras?

I believe they change menu daily. So unsure when.

    Do you allow BYOB?

We are there last night and asked if we could bring in a bottle of wine. They said, "No."

Is it vegan or only vegetarian?

They have options in both vegan, Jain and gluten-free. Since the platter has 20+ items it will include all options. I'm guessing they will skip the non-vegan items when serving you.

Has anyone else had food poisoning from this place; both my mother and I became very ill after eating here because it is not kept clean?

Probably not contaminated food, but QUANTITY of food!!

Do they have gluten free options as well?

Yes, most everything is gluten free. My wife is gluten free and they put a little sign on the table for those bringing the food around to see. They bring a special bread instead of the roti and puri. She can eat about 90 to 95% of the buffet. I… Read more

Do you offer the same thaali during dinner time?

Yes, they offer thali at both lunch and dinner times

    Is this vegetarian only?

You can tell them that you are vegan and they will accommodate. My friend is Vegan and they took the diary stuff out of his plate.

I love this restaurant, if I lived closer, I would be here every week! Ha!…read more I was introduced to this restaurant via Lou MC (a fellow Yelper/friend of many years), he had a UYE here and I was one of the attendees. I came back for a solo lunch on Sunday, the restaurant wasn't packed. It's not a modernized place, but it is clean and there was no roaches in sight! There isn't a weird odor either. It appears to be family owned as the two times I've been there is a lady, a young guy, and an older man to be working. My absolute favorites are the veg grilled chicken (my mouth is salivating as I type this), veg fried rice, veg fish, veg meatloaf, and the string beans with veg meat pieces. The sweet and sour soup is tasty too. With the grilled veg chicken; that's the star of the show! Lays on a bed of lettuce with cucumber and tomatoes on the side, the faux chicken tastes way better than grilled bird. The flavor is slightly sweet, but savory and has grilled tips. It's chewy texture and full of flavor with each bite. I think they marinate it with something because it's so divine! The fried rice resembles the non-vegan version; flavorful on its own, but once I add the soy sauce the flavor intensifies into yummy goodness. It has tiny pieces of fried tofu to replace the eggs and loaded with veggies. The meatloaf is doused in savory sauce, but the faux meatloaf is tasty too. The veg fish in the sweet and sour soup was very yummy; the soup broth smooth and didn't have any chunky parts of vegetables. When I went yesterday, there was numerous calls for takeout orders. This place is popping! I was served chrysanthem tea loose leaf; the taste wasn't overpowering and it tasted like water. Very subtle. Oh and the dumplings are good too! Thick in size and crunchy hard shell, not soggy. Huge portions and matched with inexpensive prices. This restaurant is a win win in my book. Despite busyness, they appear to handle it well and don't have long wait times for your meal to arrive. The flavor and portion profile reminds me of Trendy Vegan. You'll get more bang for your buck! Service is cordial; the waiters and waitress doesn't seem too interested in table service or getting to know you. That's alright since I was watching a movie as I ate. If I had to rank Asian vegan options: Quan Yin (#1), Trendy Vegan (#2), and then Pine Forest (#3). Located in a huge parking lot, you'll sure find a spot to park.

Would not recommend the hot unless you can handle eating ghost peppers and stuff lol 8/10 My husband got Wagyu Texas BBQ Tantanmen with duck. That was really tasty. The broth on it was so good, especially when mixed with my spicy broth. 9/10 Lastly the matcha cheesecake, i loved this so much. It had the perfect amount of matcha and it was so creamy and delicious. The portion is tiny but would definitely recommend.
