Excellent South Indian food! My family is South Indian and Kumar's is very authentic and traditional with good portion sizes and pricing. They also have several North Indian dishes as well. We tried the Nandu lollipops and mutton perattal as appetizers and mutton kolambu for our entree. Food came out fairly quickly and piping hot. We were seated quickly and our waitress was very attentive. The seating area is large, ambiance is a bit dark but the vibe is family friendly and welcoming. Not only does the food come out quickly, it is hot, fresh, and most importantly, delicious. Their menu indicates that they are proud of the sourcing of their ingredients and it shows in the quality of the dishes. Other highlights: BYOB Weekend all-you-can-eat veg & nonveg thalis Several specials including soups and biryani Lots of refreshing beverages

    Vegetarian Thali

Kumar's was great! Enjoyed the great service and the unlimited Thali. We also got to chat with Karthik who was very helpful and friendly!

Parking: plenty of space to park Seating capacity: 160 person The ambience is decent but it gets noisy as more people come in. I ordered unlimited non veg thali which comes with chicken curry, goat curry, fish curry, rasam, sambhar, dessert, pickle, curd, paratha, rice and papad. It's strange not to see any lentil in this combo. Sambhar and rasam were fillers and tasted bad. Dessert was okay. Noon veg curries had decent spice level and tasted good but they all come with 1 piece and the bowl is full of gravy only. Its annoying to ask for more and more curry. Overall it cost $22 to have this thali but it's certainly not worth it. It took them a while to get my order to the table but then the service was fine. Wont recommend a thali unless you are looking for quantity and quality don't matter.

Unfortunately, our experience was quite the opposite. The first thing we noticed when we entered the restaurant was a strong, unpleasant smell. Since we had specifically gone there to try the food, we still decided to dine in. We ordered chai, Mysore masala dosa, chole bhature, and samosas. None of the dishes really stood out. The food was just average; not terrible, but definitely not worth making the drive for. The chai in particular had almost no flavor, and we couldn't even finish it. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, especially given the hype. There are many better options in the Katy/Richmond area where you can find great food in a much more pleasant dining environment. The smell inside the restaurant was also concerning, as it raises questions about hygiene and food safety standards. For context, we visited on a Saturday morning around 11:30 AM, so it wasn't late in the day or close to closing time. Based on this experience, I wouldn't prefer to visit again.

The Dahi Puri was excellent as always. This time, the potato filling for the dosa was served on the side instead of inside, so you scoop it into the dosa yourself. Different, but still delicious and very satisfying. The restaurant is in a great location near Hillcroft in the Gandhi District, surrounded by other Indian restaurants and grocery stores. Service is friendly, prices are reasonable, and there's plenty of parking in the large shared lot. A solid spot for dosas, puris, and quick Indian bites.

Our order included potato samosas (BOGO), the chicken 65 (BOGO), goat curry, palak paneer, and garlic naan. Samosas and the chicken 65 were both delicious; dip both in that mint sauce with the samosas to kick up the flavor. Be careful as the chicken 65 (mini fried chicken bites) have spiciness to it with a good amount of chili powder and pepper kicked in. The goat curry was alright, don't know if I would order it again as the grease was overwhelming. I wasn't a fan of the palak paneer, found it too runny and it was leaking when it was delivered to us. Also the garlic naan was a bit hard in the middle; maybe it's due to the packaging? Wouldn't mind ordering here again but we'll definitely do some different items. Hopefully the samosas and chicken 65 are still on the BOGO status cause we'll definitely take those again.

Pros -There were a lot of vegetarian options that taste good. I actually thought the vegetarian choices tastes better than non-veg. My favorite veg dish was the mushroom masala fry, and my favorite non-veg was the Virudhu Nagar Chicken Pakora. -We got seated upstairs and although it's a lot of going up and downstairs to get food, I thought it was nice to be seated upstairs near the entrance so we got to see the whole restaurant. The buffet area looks impressive. I liked this portion of the restaurant but do feel that space is limited especially with large parties. -Staff were all very nice and helpful. -There was a dosa station. I didn't get to try because I was just so full! Cons -We went during lunchtime and although we didn't have to wait for a table, it was crowded at the buffet area when getting food, and at times people take a longer time getting food. -The non-veg was a bit disappointing as the taste was a bit bland, especially the curry types which should be bursting with flavors. -They offered a special fish dish but it has bones which I don't prefer. -They did not have my favorite puri when we were there! No Indian buffet restaurant should ever run out of puri or not offer! -There was mango ice cream and a variety of other desserts!

These are some of the best drinks I've ever had at any type of Indo-Pak restaurants in Houston. The mint lemonade was definitely in a league of its own. We didn't go for any appetizers, just went straight in to the entrées. The Chicken Hara Masala Supreme. Just wow, chef's kiss. Think cut up chicken thighs in a green curry that almost has a salsa like mouth feel with vegetables. Absolutely decadent. The Steak Tikka. Round of applause. I overheard the owner telling other tables that it's the best steak in Houston. I'll say it's the best steak I've ever had at an Indo-Pak restaurant. The steak was super tender it had that famous Tikka style smokiness. The Butter Chicken. Pretty damn solid. The gravy was silky and perfectly textured. They also use chicken thighs for this, which makes it even better. The Saag Paneer. It was all right, I've had better at other places, but still super solid. The Paneer was fresh and was great on all the various naans we got. For the naan, we just got the garlic and the butter naan. They are absolutely great when they come straight out of the tandoor oven, but I found that they get a little too hard if not eaten quickly. I'm sure they would reheat really well. We also tried the spicy rocket naan and it decent. I would just stick with garlic and butter. The only miss for me was the Mutton Biryani. Don't get me wrong, it's a solid biryani dish, but I've had better that had a little bit more flavor. The mutton was very tender, but the opportunity was making the rice a little bit less clunky. I see a lot of reviews with people hating on things like service or area. Let me just say we had no issues with service. The service was top-notch. We spent $222 with tip across three people. A little pricey but totally worth it.
