Ashar's Kitchen is another HALAL Pakistani restaurant located in Houston's Gandhi district. They have seating for about 80 people and they specialize in beef nihari. In fact on Wednesday evenings they have an AYCE Nihari setup. I visited on a weekend evening and was eager to try their specialties. Beef nihari ($18) - This consisted of rich and super tender beef shank meat in a spice infused gravy. It was perfectly spiced and the best nihari I have had in North America. It definitely lived up to the hype! Dhaga kabab beef ($15) - This consisted of finely minced beef wrapped in thread (dhaga) and charbroiled. The meat was seasoned well and tasted amazing. Naan ($1.75) - The naan here is pillowy soft and reasonably priced. Tea ($2) - This hot milk chai was a great way to finish the meal off. Prepared with cardamom and ginger it had a bold and comforting flavor profile. Overall Ashar's excels at Nihari and dhaga kababs. Service was friendly and helpful. read more

We came in for lunch buffet at around 2:40, the guy tells us they ran out food for the buffet! We decided to stay and order off the menu, more than 10 minutes goes by and no one has come by to take our order, finally we flag someone down to order. We tried to order samosas, they're all out, I try to order biryani, they're out of that too! At this point im so annoyed about the bad service and no food we just decided to leave. read more

It filled up closer toward 5:30PM. We ordered (for 5 people): 2x Seekh Kabob (Beef) 2x Seekh Kabob (Chicken) 1x Chicken Tandoori 1x A.K. Special Nihari 5x Garlic Naan Kabobs (3/5): Tasty, but portions were not great for the price. Chicken Tandoori (4/5): The only dish I'd come back for. Heavy on the spice, perfectly tender chicken Nihari (1.5/5): Great for having something with the naan, but there was so little meat in this dish that I wouldn't order it again for the price. Garlic Naan: It was good, but the texture felt off. The most perplexing issue with the restaurant is the service (0/5). Truly, the servers were masterful trolls. When we arrived, every table except ours had water and cups laid out. We got water, but no cups.We saw the cups on the counter and asked the waiter if we could take some, and he said he'd bring some out. He never brought any out. We ended up taking the cups from an empty table, and only then did he turn, take the cups from the counter, and refill the empty table! They also forgot our lassi and chai tea for over 30 minutes despite several reminders, and also forgot the second half of our order. The water also has a very strange taste here, like unfiltered tap water. Also, a roach ran across our table during the meal, which was... Authentically interesting. read more

If you love Pakistani food, this restaurant specializes in Nihari. They also have Biriyani and few other classic items. We had the beef nihari, mixed meat platter and garlic naan. The nihari was right on point with the flavor! I do wish they have a little more meat. The ratio was mostly sauce. The chicken also needed a little moisture. But overall good meal. They do all you can eat nihari on Wednesday nights. I have to come back to try their lamb nihari. read more

The food was very very good! The lunch box special had a little bit of everything, including chicken biryani. It was all flavorful and the meat was suuuuper tender. The mango lassi was what you would expect too. Very good. Service was just ok, but not horrible. But proper prices. Good portion sizes. Highly recommend. read more

I've been here twice for "Nihari Night" which is an all you can eat Nihari buffet experience. It's always fun and definitely fills you up. The setting is very casual, and typical desi. Nothing fancy, so please don't come expecting and instagram-able place. The nihari is the star here, so come with empty stomachs and be ready to try some flavorful nihari! We were craving poori Halwa and decided to give this place a shot. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by the manager (I believe his name was Hussain). We told him that we weren't sure about going for the buffet or ordering poori Halwa. He told us that we should check out the buffet. After looking at the assortment, we decided to go for the buffet. The channay, the aloo, Halwa - was really good and fresh. The manager actually brought piping hot pooris to our table and they were amazing. Light, crispy, and taste just like homemade pooris. The others with me did try the nihari, tandoori chicken, and biryani. They really enjoyed it! I've never had a Pakistani "brunch" buffet amazing experience this awesome. Highly recommend Ashar's! Very bad experience I could give 0 star if possible just a greedy restaurant owner i guess. Charge 26$ for Ramdan buffet and then they charge 4 or more gratitude even if you are single person thats total 36$ per person and they will run out of food in after 15 minutes and won't refill most of the stuffed like they will keep taking people and cheat them. Like we vent immediately at azan time and they where out of starter in half line and then paya they where out of dessert juice and tea and romali roti and naan after keeping telling them how we will eat they refill naan after lots of wait. I am genuine person i can post my recipe and pictures. I think good ratings are like their own people. Went for Iftar during Ramadan. They were pretty disorganized. Maybe didn't expect people to show up on a Friday night during Iftar time? Idk. Said $25 pp with 18 items. Pretty sure there wasn't 18 items on that buffet table unless we start counting garnishings. Food came out late. People were waiting. Trays were emptying faster and had to tell them to refill. It was slightly chaotic. I'm used to the seamless-ness at the sugar land location because that's where we normally go. The chicken tikka was fantastic. The nihari meat was meh. Finger-licking good! Went for the nihari buffet on Wednesday night and it was delicious! Paya nihari is the absolute best. We had a group of 5 people--everyone loved the food. Location is not as lively as the original on HW6 but it's cleaner. Need to clean the doors and windows though. read more

food was ok, service was slow , they over charge with gratuity, which they justify by posting a sign in the restaurant.The reason that you tip a server is because you like the service , but they made it mandatory.The reasoning behind automatic gratuity is to ensure that service staff receives a fair tip for their work but those servers are restaurant responsibility they should pay them. tip is meant to be based on the service what consumer likes. read more
