Nut Allergy - I was fine with the dishes we ordered here. Order - to - Food: 18-25 minutes We arrived around 4:40PM on a Saturday evening and the place was relatively empty. It filled up closer toward 5:30PM. We ordered (for 5 people): 2x Seekh Kabob (Beef) 2x Seekh Kabob (Chicken) 1x Chicken Tandoori 1x A.K. Special Nihari 5x Garlic Naan Kabobs (3/5): Tasty, but portions were not great for the price. Chicken Tandoori (4/5): The only dish I'd come back for. Heavy on the spice, perfectly tender chicken Nihari (1.5/5): Great for having something with the naan, but there was so little meat in this dish that I wouldn't order it again for the price. Garlic Naan: It was good, but the texture felt off. The most perplexing issue with the restaurant is the service (0/5). Truly, the servers were masterful trolls. When we arrived, every table except ours had water and cups laid out. We got water, but no cups.We saw the cups on the counter and asked the waiter if we could take some, and he said he'd bring some out. He never brought any out. We ended up taking the cups from an empty table, and only then did he turn, take the cups from the counter, and refill the empty table! They also forgot our lassi and chai tea for over 30 minutes despite several reminders, and also forgot the second half of our order. The water also has a very strange taste here, like unfiltered tap water. Also, a roach ran across our table during the meal, which was... Authentically interesting.

    Beef nihari
    Mahwish S.

If you love Pakistani food, this restaurant specializes in Nihari. They also have Biriyani and few other classic items. We had the beef nihari, mixed meat platter and garlic naan. The nihari was right on point with the flavor! I do wish they have a little more meat. The ratio was mostly sauce. The chicken also needed a little moisture. But overall good meal. They do all you can eat nihari on Wednesday nights. I have to come back to try their lamb nihari.

    Lunch Box Special

The food was very very good! The lunch box special had a little bit of everything, including chicken biryani. It was all flavorful and the meat was suuuuper tender. The mango lassi was what you would expect too. Very good. Service was just ok, but not horrible. But proper prices. Good portion sizes. Highly recommend.

    Puri paratha

Yummy puri paratha and sizzling beef dhaga kababs! Daal was pretty good with butter naan too. Pakola always brings nostalgia. Didn't have room for dessert or chai or lassi. Super friendly and welcoming staff. Personal attention and Jafar was specifically very friendly and hospitable. Very clean and have cool Karachi fun facts and pictures on the walls like W-11 :) Ample seating and parking lot in the front and back has parking too.

Poori Halwa from buffet was *chefs kiss*

We were craving poori Halwa and decided to give this place a shot. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by the manager (I believe his name was Hussain). We told him that we weren't sure about going for the buffet or ordering poori Halwa. He told us that we should check out the buffet. After looking at the assortment, we decided to go for the buffet. The channay, the aloo, Halwa - was really good and fresh. The manager actually brought piping hot pooris to our table and they were amazing. Light, crispy, and taste just like homemade pooris. The others with me did try the nihari, tandoori chicken, and biryani. They really enjoyed it! I've never had a Pakistani "brunch" buffet amazing experience this awesome. Highly recommend Ashar's! FYI - this location was really clean and the manager was very attentive to customer needs. I also saw him constantly checking the buffet to ensure entrees were being fill etc.

Went for Iftar during Ramadan. They were pretty disorganized. Maybe didn't expect people to show up on a Friday night during Iftar time? Idk. Said $25 pp with 18 items. Pretty sure there wasn't 18 items on that buffet table unless we start counting garnishings. Food came out late. People were waiting. Trays were emptying faster and had to tell them to refill. It was slightly chaotic. I'm used to the seamless-ness at the sugar land location because that's where we normally go. The chicken tikka was fantastic. The nihari meat was meh. Cmon Ashars, I thought y'all were good at nihari. The fried chicken was awesome too. Chai was meh. Got to fix a few kinks yall. It's the end of Ramadan. Maybe next year.

Reg Nihari priced at $14.99. This is not Pakistan rupees it's US DOLLAR.

Unfortunately, our experience was quite the opposite. The first thing we noticed when we entered the restaurant was a strong, unpleasant smell. Since we had specifically gone there to try the food, we still decided to dine in. We ordered chai, Mysore masala dosa, chole bhature, and samosas. None of the dishes really stood out. The food was just average; not terrible, but definitely not worth making the drive for. The chai in particular had almost no flavor, and we couldn't even finish it. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, especially given the hype. There are many better options in the Katy/Richmond area where you can find great food in a much more pleasant dining environment. The smell inside the restaurant was also concerning, as it raises questions about hygiene and food safety standards. For context, we visited on a Saturday morning around 11:30 AM, so it wasn't late in the day or close to closing time. Based on this experience, I wouldn't prefer to visit again.

The food was ready within about seven minutes of me placing the order. That kind of efficiency is impressive. They were also very attentive and made sure everything was correct. As for the food itself, it tasted really good. The flavors were solid and satisfying. Is it the best Indian food I have ever had? Our order included potato samosas (BOGO), the chicken 65 (BOGO), goat curry, palak paneer, and garlic naan. Samosas and the chicken 65 were both delicious; dip both in that mint sauce with the samosas to kick up the flavor. Be careful as the chicken 65 (mini fried chicken bites) have spiciness to it with a good amount of chili powder and pepper kicked in. The goat curry was alright, don't know if I would order it again as the grease was overwhelming. I wasn't a fan of the palak paneer, found it too runny and it was leaking when it was delivered to us. Also the garlic naan was a bit hard in the middle; maybe it's due to the packaging? Wouldn't mind ordering here again but we'll definitely do some different items. Hopefully the samosas and chicken 65 are still on the BOGO status cause we'll definitely take those again.

Their longevity (#1) of a near half century is nothing short of impressive, earning a nostalgic place in the hearts of many Houston diners, a good number of whom trace their first Indian cuisine experiences at this very location. While I do wish their success, it's hard not to point out minor mishaps in different aspects of the overall restaurant experience, which include: :: Awkward stares from the staff as they hover or stand in the middle of the room. It's understandable that they're monitoring to help where needed, but even then I will have to flag them down for water, napkins, or the bill. :: Buffet maintenance. They're semi-quick to replenish, but extremely slow at maintaining the cleanliness. Splatter from the daal makhani, a serving spoon not returned to the same serving tray, or even customers forgetting to close the bins at the dessert station (#2) could all be mitigated by a designated person keeping it tidy. :: Food quality. The tandoori chicken has been dry, the saag paneer could be creamier, and chicken tikka masala has had their bland days. Even the naan can be a bit too dry at times. Thankfully I've fared better with the chana masala and paneer makhani. I would also steer clear of their fruit punch. :: Decor is dark and dated. It still reminds me of a place that is stuck in time, which for most experiences are usually my favorite. The natural lighting during lunch alleviates this slightly, but the dinner hour makes this place feel like eating in an older hotel lobby. The vibes are most definitely challenging. :: Foodflation. Another price hike in the last year brings the buffet price to just under $22. While it's a nice jump from what it was previously, it does leave me wishing for more, especially when the prices keep climbing. ___________ (#1) 46 years. Pros -There were a lot of vegetarian options that taste good. I actually thought the vegetarian choices tastes better than non-veg. Cons -We went during lunchtime and although we didn't have to wait for a table, it was crowded at the buffet area when getting food, and at times people take a longer time getting food. -The non-veg was a bit disappointing as the taste was a bit bland, especially the curry types which should be bursting with flavors. -They offered a special fish dish but it has bones which I don't prefer. -They did not have my favorite puri when we were there!
