I had the butter chicken, flavored rice since they ran out of white rice, mango lassi, and butter naan. The naan is massive, but the best one I've had but definitely good. Food is pretty good, you do have to come with someone because portions are big. Maybe they have lunch portions but I didn't see it. It's okay, will have left overs.

We've been coming here for years prior to the name change. What struck me was how nice the staff were and also the twist and rich flavors of dishes I had eaten for years. The Afghani influence adds a unique flavor profile. The interior is well decorated with plenty of seating and the service is prompt for the most part, though The weekends can get hectic. I would definitely recommend calling ahead for to-go orders. I enjoy the chicken curry, naan and biryani. A good option is you want to try something familiar but different!

Karahi Boys step aside. I found my new fave karahi spot! We were on the mood for dosas but somehow, my mind turned from vegetarian to wanting a kebab/karahi spot. So many options on Hilcroft! We were greeted and sat promptly in a large comfy booth. The waiter was very attentive and friendly. He took the other tables order then ours. We ordered 4 dishes for our table of 4 (one is a 3 yo). The daal fry was tasty. I would've liked more daal pieces vs fully mushy but the flavor was on point. Just enough spice. The white chicken karahi was my favorite 5/5 but I should've ordered it at medium at least, I just thought my 3yo would eat. I would crave this dish. I've made this at home before and its my absolute favorite. I just wish the portion was bigger (for me to take home!) The Hyderabad goat karahi was a 4/5. It was very spicy but flavorful. The goat pieces are small but some have fat on the goat pieces which made it just that much better. Ill try their goat peshawari karahi next time (my fave from Agas) The butter chicken was a different flavor than what I am used to 4/5. The chicken was from chicken tandoori and the sauce was very smokey. Again, not the same flavor as most butter chickens, it did remind me a bit if the goat karahi in bade flavor. The naan is by far one of the best ive had. And they are massive. Super soft throughout with a nice crispy bottom. I tried one of the kebab dishes but I would probably focus on the curries next time I come here. We'll be back!

I took a friend here and ordered 4 dishes that caught our eye and we loved every single one of them. I was so surprised to see that they didn't have more customers during lunch time on a Saturday, but I also some people coming in to pick up orders. Maybe they have a lot more pick up orders. Even the drinks we got were tasty. They had a mint lemonade and you can taste the strong mint in it. It's so refreshing to go with the savory/spicy food. We loved the flavor of the chicken 65. It was so tasty and perfectly seasoned and coated with sauce. The chicken karahi's sauce was perfect with the biriyani. They didn't skimp out on packing the sauce with jalapenos too. It had a really nice kick and I love spicy food. Goat chops were also perfectly seasoned and had that nice char on it. No complaints about anything we had here.

Everything was fresh and super flavorful. Each dish had different spices and flavor. Yum!

The waiter was very kind and gave us time to decide. For drinks we got mint lemonade, which tasted great! We went with the chicken tikka masala, butter chicken and garlic naan. Everything was delicious and you could tell they made it fresh. The place had lots of seating and nice Indian music playing. I'm new into Indian cuisine and I will be back!

Angara was a surprise find. It's a clean and welcoming establishment. We ordered the chicken 65, goat chops, and beef boti kabab. Every dish was flavorful and unique. Our favorite was the goat chops which were exceptional and surpassed my experience of the same dish at Aga's. The chicken 65 was flavorful and juicy with a little gravy which uniquely separates itself from typical drier chicken 65. The Boti kabab was juicy and tender. The fried rice that these dishes were paired with was aromatic and delicious. Definitely coming back !

The food here is amazing! I used to only order delivery from here, but we stopped in person for the first time today and the food is so much better in person. We ordered the chicken samosa, malai kofta, and shinwari chicken karahi. We asked if the karahi could be made with boneless chicken, and our server was kind enough to oblige. We realized after that the kitchen doesn't actually have doesn't have boneless chicken since our waiter mentioned he had tried deboning the chicken for us, which was a very nice touch, and much appreciated. The flavors here are amazing and so much better than Aga's, in my opinion. The spices really shine through here. One of my favorite Indian restaurant in Houston. Note: they don't have tap water here, only paid water bottles, so bring your own water.

The service was great, everyone was very kind and attentive. The food was also great 10 out of 10. Would recommend and definitely will be coming back.

For hyderabadi food you need to visit this place , we had biryani , chicken 65 and the haleem everything was perfect

Goat Dum Biryani

Excellent food. I came for the Chicken Karahi and the server will ask your preferred spiciness level. Extra spicy for me! The goat briyani was also amazing. Nice spot with excellent service and great ambiance. Don't take my word for it, try it yourself!

Ordered food and there was no meat in the biryani. Typically there is 5-6 pieces of meat but today there was 1-2 pieces only. Extremely disappointing!

Fire grilled, chicken goat and booed kebabs, and a large lamb shank cooked buttery in the middle of the rice. The rice was specially cooked, flavorful, and really yummy. It could feed 4 people. Definitely a recommend if you like grilled meats and rice. Comes with sliced turnip, cucumber, fresh mint leaves and fresh parsley. Also it is halal which is a huge plus in my book. I could have used just a tad more spice to my meat but the green sauce made up for it. My mango smoothie was delicious as well. I'm unsure if it had any dairy in it. They also had complimentary dessert which was a nice touch. I was pressed for time so didn't try it but it looked like some sort of custard. Pricing was excellent average plate cost was $15. Also attached is a halal market with meats, spices, etc.

This is a hidden little gem in the back of a long strip mall and definitely a place you should add to your try list. It's not fancy to look at, but I always feel comfortable coming in here, and they can easily accommodate large parties. As usual, they brought a refreshing lettuce salad. Once I finished that off I ordered the Mantu appetizer. Mantu is stuffed with a wonderful ground beef filling, a little pocket of deliciousness, a tiny spicy heat to it, and a moist sauce that rounds out the flavor, and is finished with a generous sprinkle of sumac. It's a delicious light dumpling!! My favorite dish that I keep ordering over and over is the Showra. This is a super flavorful broth in which a lamb shank sits along with a potato. It sounds so simple, and it is, but I think it's absolutely wonderful. I've never seen a naan prepared the way they do their version. Pull off pieces and dip that into the broth so that it gets all soggy and delicious :-). They serve it with a small side of onion and lemon, and I squeeze the lemon juice into it and dump the onion into the hot broth. I like to finish the meal with the light Firni milk pudding sprinkled with chopped pistachios. While eating here, you could run next-door to the market if you need some Halal meat. I think the above is my favorite meal here.

Without much of expectation, I walked in bravely thinking I might be rejected because I'm not from this culture. I'm a food adventurer and I like to try dishes not familiar to me. As long as Google is available, I could always search on unknown names. I pulled out my Yelp app and did a quick research on what people would recommend. I saw an interesting dish called Chapli Kabab with Bukhari Pulao for $13.99. The meat was very well seasoned and it had lots of crushed peppers. I had to slow down to spit out pepper seeds. The rice was very flavorful. The meal came with a small plate of fresh hummus. I know I should have naan to go with it but I was overloaded with carbs from the rice. I was reading about the difference of Pulao and Biryani. "Pulao is made by sautéing the ingredients (rice and meat or vegetables) together, then adding pre-determined quantity of water." And, "Biryani is where the rice and meat or vegetable is first partially cooked separately then layered and cooked on slow flame with other ingredients." I'm not an expert on this region's dishes. That's why I am here at the restaurant. Since I didn't have a strong stomach for spicy stew like karahi, I skipped it this time. I would also try Palak gosht, a hearty mutton curry.

I was in line to order to-go but the lady in front of me had the hardest time paying for her order. I found that to be extremely considerate of the worker to think to do that. Food came out in about 15 minutes. I was so hungry I ended up deciding to eat in my car. A little disappointed that they didn't include any utensils (nor did they ask if needed any), but thankfully I had some extras in my car. I ordered a chicken kebab and they were nice enough to sub my rice for a salad without extra charge. Also ordered the borani bademjan because I'm a fan of all things eggplant. Everything was delicious. The chicken kebab was juicy, moist, and nicely seasoned. However, my favorite item was hands down the borani bademjan. It's the kind of spot that works just as well for a casual dinner as it does for a relaxed night out with friends or family. We started off with the lentil soup, which was comforting and flavorful--light yet satisfying, with a nice balance of spices. The hummus was smooth, creamy, and elevated even more by the complimentary fresh bread, which came out warm and perfectly baked--easily one of the highlights of the meal. For mains, the Koobideh Combination stole the show. The kababs were juicy, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly, with that classic smoky flavor that makes Persian kabobs so good. Definitely the standout dish and a must-order. The Salmon & Chicken combo was equally impressive--both proteins were tender, nicely grilled, and paired beautifully with the saffron rice and grilled vegetables, giving you a great mix of flavors and textures. We also tried the Soujuk & Cheese Lahmajun, which added a nice twist to the meal. It had a crispy base with rich, savory toppings, and the cheese brought everything together really well--great for sharing. Avesta is a solid go-to for Persian cuisine in Houston. Between the quality of the kababs, fresh bread, and overall flavor, everything hit the mark. Pair that with the great atmosphere and welcoming staff, and it's definitely a place worth coming back to
