Momos are a must here, especially since it is a Nepalese specialty. We had goat and chicken momos steamed, johl and with chili and all were super tasty with lots of flavor. We ordered the chicken chili fried momos, buttered chicken and tikka chicken with rice and garlic naan. The chicken moms were in this tomato sauce with a bit of spice and were so good. Definitely recommend the momos. Loved the crunch and filling. The tikka chicken was okay but for $20 for a few pieces of chicken was a bit crazy to me. The last dish, buttered chicken, was such a let down. No flavor at all!! It tasted like a watered down buttered chicken, could not even taste the spices. I had a great time at the Kathmandu Curry and Bar. There was a really lively atmosphere as several patrons were watching sports games and eating. Our service was pretty prompt as well as we were able to change our order pretty quickly. We ordered the chili paneer, the garlic naan, and chicken biriyani at medium spice. The chili paneer was a standout dish as it was crisp but also offered a spicy kick. In addition, the chicken biriyani had a balanced spice level and flavor profile that wasn't too overpowering. This was our first time at Kathmandu, and we had an all around pleasant experience. The standout dish were the momos! It's a nice interior and very comfortable, with tables fitting groups of almost any size. Parking is also easy to find, at least during lunchtime. And the service was kind and attentive, and I appreciated our waiter giving us suggestions and accommodations for our tastes! The food itself was delicious, although nothing blew us away - which is perfectly fine. We are only two people with limited stomach space, and we were very intrigued to come back to try more of the menu very soon! We had the chilli chicken momos and I appreciated the flavorful sauce and filling, with a soft dumpling dough. Sometimes momos can be tough. Next time, we will do the steamed ones instead because they looked great. The Newari platter was an array of amazing textures. Roasted soybeans, black eyed peas, sardines, boiled egg, potatoes, and more. Very delicious. The rice pudding was also quite pleasant, light, mildly spiced, and not too sweet! Decided to try Kathmandu Curry & Bar on a whim, and this place blew away our expectations! Great service, nice atmosphere, and absolutely amazing cuisine. We got the momos and Newari plate. The momos are an absolute must!! If you've never had them before, they are just like dumplings with meat+spices filling and served with the creamy tomato sauce on top or on the side. We also enjoyed the various curries and vegetables on the Newari plate. Our favorite dish was the malai kofta. Service was amazing too. Our server took the time to explain the menu and provide her recommendations as this was our first time visiting. Food prices are also affordable. We will be back! read more

We stumbled in this restaurant randomly. This is my 1st time trying Nepalese cuisine. The restaurant was emptied about 3 tables plus us and a lot of staffs in house, but the service was super slow. It's hard to say no to curries. I crave for something spicy in this 3-digit Houston heat. Yup, you heard it right. Heat on heat makes my tummy burning. I passed by Kathmandu Curry & Bar several times during my mall audit last 2 years. Every time I walked by, there were always crowds. My Yelper friend Sara I mentioned this restaurant because I was looking for a new restaurant to host my UYE (foodie meetup). This is my tradition to try the place before I could share my foodie loves. I came here on a Sunday afternoon after my weekly grocery shopping. I was starving. I ordered Mint Lemonade ($4), Chicken Curry ($17) and Pani Puri ($9). I swear these prices added up $30 to be qualified for the check-in offer. But waitress refused to honor because "it doesn't exist." I had Puri Puffs at Indian buffets but never had Pani Puri like this before. The flavored water was spicy and savory. I poured it into each pocket and feed straight into my mouth. The excitement starts with crunchy shell followed by tasty filling and the cold liquid from the sauce. Boom! Bam! It was also fun to eat. The mint lemonade has a foam from squeezed mint green. It had a hint of sweetness and not overpowering taste of mint. The drink was refreshing but it served in a wrong container with a straw. I just wish it was served in a tall drink glass instead of fluted water glass. My entrée was the signature Kathmandu Curry with chicken as the protein. I chose naan instead of rice as starch. The chicken was so tender. The sauce wasn't pungent nor spicy, as I was eating. I'll know later. Haha. Naan bread was fresh and fluffy. Well balanced main dish. The restaurant is located on the strip mall, thus there is plenty of parking. Came here for lunch on the weekend. Though I was the first customer (20mins after their opening time), people came in fast after 10mins after me. I had the steamed goat momo, lamb chops, and butter chicken with garlic naan. The goat momo was delicious. The proportion of dumpling skin to meat was great. The meat was seasoned well. The lamb chops came out sizzling out. I asked for medium temperature on my meat, and I got medium. The lamb was seasoned perfectly, and the meat was so tender. The butter chicken was a slight disappointment. The gravy was too sweet, but the chicken was cooked right. The garlic naan was fluffy and yummy. All my food came out piping out, and service was good. Restaurant is clean, and decor is simple and nice. There are televisions at every corner that broadcast different channels. The restaurant has a good atmosphere. After trying momos for the first time, I was ready to seek them out again and was led here. Since they were also running a BOGO special on social media, it was an opportune time to visit! The interior was a bit stuffy, with the scent of incense burning. I was set on momos, so I decided on the chili goat momos and the steamed chicken momos. When I mentioned wanting to use the BOGO promotion with the momos, the waitress informed me I had to order the same protein for the free one to be applied, despite me already ordering the more expensive goat momos and wanting the less expensive chicken momos as my freebie. Though she insisted on these strange rules, I finally told her to just charge me extra. The momos came out hot and delicious. The filling contained juicy meat and veg as well as fragrant spices similar to a kebab. I loved the spicy heat from the chili tossed goat momos. The steamed chicken momos were also tasty and came with two sauces, one of which had a great kick. I sampled some of my friend's thali, and the goat was nice. When the bill came, I wasn't charged extra thank goodness, as it was a policy that didn't make sense. Overall worth a visit if you are a dumpling lover like me! They offer a plethora of other great looking and even unique dishes including a jackfruit one that looked intriguing, so I can see myself returning despite the owner spending the duration of the meal watching a soccer match behind the bar. read more

Parking: There is plenty of parking in the lot and garage. Service: While we were there, the staff was busy talking and gossiping. We had to call them multiple times to get our order and cheque. Food: chowmein and biryani were pretty basic in taste. Quantity was good but quality not so good. There are better places serving delicious food at the same price. They conned us on Mango Smoothie. See the attached picture of the smoothie after leaving it for 30 min. Water separated from the mango powder they mixed. I have never seen a place with this level of bullsh*t added to the smoothie. I am not sure what else they are mixing in their food. Please be careful if you choose to eat at this place. Wont recommend this place to anyone. read more

This was my third time trying Nepali food, and I've had it before in Chicago. I went to this restaurant for dinner with my wife and son. We ordered the thali with egg curry, Kathmandu chicken curry, a few garlic and butter naans, and also got the dry chilli chicken as takeout. The naans were quite good--soft with just the right amount of crispiness and flavor. However, the thali was disappointing and not worth the $18. The egg curry was flavorful, and the daal was decent, but the rest of the items on the thali didn't taste good. The Kathmandu chicken curry, in particular, was too sour and not enjoyable. The last time I had momos was over a decade ago in the breakroom of at my first job out of undergrad. These were homemade and when you've had good homemade food your expectations are never met anywhere else. Thankfully, the steamed chicken momos hit the spot! We had also ordered the goat momos and the goat curry thali, as well. First and foremost, I have to say that the service here is super polite. They had two servers helping us through the evening as they got busy toward the latter part of the night. What kept me ordering more things I think was the Nepalese music playing in the background. I don't think that I have ever heard Nepalese music before and it was so tranquil and slightly Bollywoodsy that it naturally enhanced my super chatty personality lol! My friend had ordered the steamed chicken and chili goat momos and I got to try both of them. The steamed chicken was my fav as I already mentioned. The goat one was not my favorite but my friend seemed to like it. There was a slightly rubbery texture to some bites while the others tasted amazing. The chili sauce that was slightly overpowering for my taste. The red chili that came with the chicken momo was so good! It wasn't too spicy. It had the spice level that is flavorful and really brought out the flavors of the momos. My goat thali consisted of an assortment of dishes. Goat curry, lentils, potato and cauliflower sabzi, mustard greens, something like an achar (I am guessing at this point because I am not exactly sure what it was) and kheer. My absolute favorite thing of the evening was the mustard greens that was on my thali. It almost tasted like a Chinese vegetable and I had to flag our server down to ask what it was because the taste was so unique and absolutely delicious. At the end of the evening, I ordered the chai which was slightly sweet for my liking but thankfully it had cardamom notes that really were very balanced and I didn't care about the sugar in it. Parking is a little messy because there are other stores in the strip mall where the restaurant is located. There is a garage located where there is ample parking so it really wasn't a big issue. read more

We dropped by on a whim in the middle of the afternoon, super down time, not busy at all. Despite this, the food was hot and fresh and VERY tasty, the staff was smiling and friendly, the space was clean with lovely decor. My husband and I split an order of the Chicken Momo (great flavor, seemed to be made fresh - kinda wish they had a smaller order, but the leftovers were a great snack later) and the Mix Grill sizzler special (chicken & shrimp were the standouts). We dined in here recently and they weren't busy but service was a bit slow. Since the momos were raved about in reviews, we had to try them. We went with the vegetarian ones with chili sauce. I thought they were delicious! I love a good veggie dumpling, and it was nice to try something a little different. We tried some other items as well: samosas, veggie pakoda, kalo daal (black lentils), naan, and tandoori roti. The best of the bunch were the veggie pakoda, and they were definitely something I would get again. Crispy fried veggies are hard to mess up. The rest of what we tried was pretty standard fare. This homey Nepalese joint leapt into my top Houston dining list after just one visit, thanks to some mesmerizing curries of course some dumplings that were out of this world. Nepalese food is absolutely its own thing, and I hesitate to give in to the human instinct for trite comparisons, but I suppose there is some cultural and geographical context here: as you'd expect from a country nestled between India and China, Nepalese cooking resembles the love child of each of these cuisines. The Hillcroft restaurant is spacious and clean with wooden floors and a colorful bar at the back. Here's the line-up of dishes that I found so captivating: Chicken Momos (Chili) - these are quintessential Nepalese/Tibetan steam dumplings that you would be doing yourself a great disservice not to order. You can get them steamed (straight up), with jhol (swimming in broth), or with a chili sauce. These were INCREDIBLE. The doughy pockets were thick and spongy and coated in a legit spicy, zesty, and tangy sauce. ~$14 gets you 10 dumplings, which was plenty for the three of us, although I briefly considered getting an extra order because I was so enamored. Wai-Wai Sandeko - combines dry "Wai Wai" brand Thai noodles with green chili, ginger, onion, cilantro, tomato, and oil (add a spritz of lemon!) to create a flavorful and fun street-side snack. Great savory starter that reminded me a bit of Indian chaat. Kathmandu Goat Curry - this preparation literally tasted like the goat my grandmother used to make at home, which is the highest compliment I can give. There was tons of high-quality meat and almost no bones. The gravy was spicy and aromatic. Kataharko Tarkari - a dazzling tomato-based curry with aromatic and spicy notes. If you've never had cooked jackfruit, it's a fantastic meat substitute as it takes on a dense, chewy character. This was my wife's favorite dish. The offerings here are unique, mouth-watering, and affordable as well. Big fan. read more

This is a good spot. Normally when I go to a new Indian or Nepali place, I try their thali so that I can sample a wide variety of dishes. However, I went with my friend Jyo, who never had Nepali food before so we ordered a couple of dishes that we would never find in an Indian restaurant, although a variation might be found in a Chinese restaurant. For example, I've had the roasted soybean in several Sichuan restaurants and here it tasted familiar in that nutty crunchy way although the lemon wedge does break up the oily aftertaste. The jackfruit main course was in a bright tart tomato sauce that I enjoyed. It was not too fiery and tasted different than how I've had it in east asian restaurants. Last were the momos. We ordered the momos in chili sauce. These are not your normal vegetable dumplings. I think they had paneer in them instead of the typical tofu accompaniment to the greens. So beautiful and rich. I ordered an extra set to take home. The service was very nice. I was the only non South Asian in the place and the waitress seemed amused I was explaining some of the dishes to Jyo. read more
