Delicious northern Indian/himalaya dinner. We are always looking for a good Indian restaurant and we have found it. A group of us one for dinner and we tried several different dinners and shared them amongst us. We were seated quickly and they accommodate our group of 10 easily, we placed our order in the food, came out, reasonably quickly. The main course started with a salad, and we ordered both garlic and buttered nan. Our main courses included mahkani chicken, vindaloo, fish, chicken biryani, spinach paneer, momo dumplings, and several orders of King of Texas platter. The flavors were wonderful, and when we ordered a few of us, ask them to dial up the spice, but be careful. The service was very good and attentive, and the restaurant was relatively quiet from noise. Some restaurants are just super noisy, and TAJ is not. If you enjoy Indian cuisine, I know you'll enjoy this restaurant. read more

Went for lunch and the best thing was the nann. Everything on the buffet was room temperature or colder. Place was decent but they had a big fan in the corner which meant the restaurant wasn't cool. Service was decent but nothing to write home about all the servers are very nice. No explanation on how the buffet was priced and no menu if you wanted to skip the buffet. Food was average with the typical offerings like sag paneer. No ambiance as far was I can tell. Glad I went to try it but will not be back. read more

We were down in this part of town and it was one of the only Indian restaurants we found. I was excited to try a new Indian restaurant and they had buffet so I thought it was a win win. The buffet was decent size with a combination of meats and veggies. The chicken was dry and overcooked. There was a tray for goat, that had nothing but bones. What a nice restaurant for a taste of the Himalayas. Grabbed a lunch buffet with the family on a Saturday afternoon. What a great deal at $16.90 per person. Went a few months later. Now the buffet is $18.99. Still a lot of food. Salads. Soups. Rice. Curries. Tandoori. Naan. Dessert. Yummy. Vegetable pakora. Cucumber cabbage salad. Vegetable Turmeric Soup. Fresh Mixed Veggies. Palak Paneer. Kali Dal. Vegetable Korma. Chicken Makhani. Chicken tandoori. Goat with bones. Naan is brought to the table. Hot and fresh from the oven. Grab a few chutneys from the line as well Rice Pudding for dessert is a nice way to end a relaxing lunch with family on a lazy holiday weekend. Food: 4.6/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4.5/5 Food- Let me preface by stating that I am not Indian nor Nepali. That being said, this is probably my favorite Nepali/Indian place in this area (albeit there are only a few). Here's my opinion on all the dishes we ordered on our most recent stop: Fish Pakora: Nothing too crazy, but still good and well seasoned Piro Chicken Wings: Really good flavor, but way too spicy for my family personally (we are not crazy on spice, though) Goat Tandoori Momo: Really good, no notes Chicken Makhani: Really rich in flavor, incredibly buttery Lamb Handi Curry: Amazing as well, though enjoyed Makhani more Chili Lamb Jerky: Probably the weakest dish we got. Just not my vibe and tasted like I was eating bones the whole time. Shrimp Noodle Soup: Accidentally got this dish, but not a disappointment in the slightest. Probably my favorite bite of the night. Shrimp Stir Fry Noodles: Also incredible with lots of standout spices added in. Garlic Naan: Never misses Chicken Biryani: So much depth of flavor, went perfectly with the meat dishes we ordered. Service/Ambiance- Great, with not much to complain about. Music was a little bit too loud considering how calm the restaurant's atmosphere would be otherwise. Servers were great and speedy even though it was late and not too crowded. Great place. There's not much more to add. Himalayan Taj is seemingly simple with no flashy presentation in how it's designed, but that allows great food to really shine. I am a big advocate for spice, and the 3/5 level for all dishes was pretty dang spicy! Three dishes was enough to feed a family of four with some leftovers to take home. My husband and I were looking for a restaurant near the NASA in Webster, when we came across the Himalayan Taj, the parking was full and that's always a good sign, so we decided to give it a try. When I entered the first thing I felt was the smell of spices, and herbs coming from the kitchen, at that moment all my senses were awakened. The restaurant itself it's big, lots of tables, very clean place, which is always a plus. I love Indian, but I hadn't try Nepali, so I was very eager to try everything. To my surprise it was an all you can eat, and for some reason that is not always good, but this wasn't the case. Although there was not beef nor pork, there was a variety of chicken, rice, pastas, vegetarian options, soups and salads. I tried almost all the flavors of the chicken dishes, I tried the basmati rice, and some salad as well. I had to try the spicy chicken, which was not a disappointment, but beware because if you can't handle spicy food those options may not be for you. Everything was delicious, my favorite was the cilantro chicken, which was a little spicy and the masala sauce was incredible, so buttery and rich. The vegetables soup had this nostalgic taste to it, so good. And the Naan bread was amazing, so soft and chewy. The dessert option is limited, and they ran out of mango dessert, which I was very excited to try, but maybe next time! I liked the rice pudding, was very creamy with hints of citrus flavors. My second trip to Himalayan Taj in about a year was better than the first. Maybe it was my lucky day, but I was fortunate to enjoy being almost the lone customer towards the tail end of the daily lunch buffet. "While most of the names of the dishes were lost on me, I enjoyed them all. South Asian cuisine is anchored by spice, and Taj brought the heat without me begging for water every few minutes. If anything, I kept returning for mostly the chicken and vegetables dishes." I'm glad to say that what I wrote on Feb. 6, 2022, remains true now. During my most recent visit, I worked almost six plates of those same alluring, mouthwatering dishes. And I still had room for rice pudding, which was deliciously sweet and a great counter to the spiciness. "The buffet was simple, clean, and well organized ... Came here with brothers family famished after a long day at the NASA museum The server recommended the Himalayan meat platter which was more than enough for the 5 of us but since we are all relatively big guys with big appetites we ordered more - a chicken biryani & lamb seekh kebab and a lemonade and rotis. The food was excellent- tasted delicious and fresh. Yet there were some leftovers that we took back to the hotel. This is my third visit here, I'd give a solid 3.5 Don't get me wrong, food here is good but it's not consistent(flavor varies visit to visit) and I get very bloated afterwards---yes may be a persona issue Seriously though, what you get is a plesant, family dining experience. Regular servers, it's nice to see familiar faces each time. My first visit I had Kathal Curry(spicy Jackfruit curry) and Goat chop---I thought the Makahni sauce(creamy tomatoe sauce) was so good, and so was the Jackfruit curry. Goat chop was tough, was not at all my fav. Second visit I had the lunch buffet, it was delicious, many choices to pick from, both vegetarian & non-vegetarian. I had Kathal curry to go this time. Last night was my third visit and ordered King of Texas and my fav, Kathal curry. Once again, I didn't enjoy the meat too much here, neither kabob, chicken or lamb I didn't enjoy much. The lamb was tough and chicken was slightly under cooked. Makhani chicken was good, and so was the Kathal curry but they both tasted different from last time and one before that even so I was bit disappointed by this variation. Also this time the food was salty, I downed two bottles of water and a can of beer when I got home bcs I was that thirsty... I would say this though, I love their Indian coffee, it's sweet, it's creamy with full of flavors. It's a must try! I live in Houston, so it's a drive for me to visit here. I don't know why I was craving for it so much but think my obsession with Himalaya Taj has ended and am ready to move on to next. So glad we dropped in for dinner. The menu had so many options from traditional to specialities. I loved the large vegetarian section. My husband and I ordered three dishes to try along with garlic naan. Flavors were great. Everything was fresh and hot. Our shrimp, mango and potato dish had a unique flavor I've never had before (sorry in no way can I describe it). Our Dahl was very spicy (level 2 and I love spicy so beware). Spinach paneer (named something different) was absolutely the best I've ever had. Service was quick and friendly. She kindly answered my questions. AND prices were very reasonable. This was literally the first restaurant I've been to that serves this type of food and given that I was unfamiliar with what it all was, I chose this place because of the good reviews AND because they have a buffet so, in theory, I could famiarize myself with a whole variety of new cuisine. Sadly, I did not realize that the buffet was lunch only and I was therefore limited to trying only one entree. I say sadly because my food [the coconut curry] was SO delicious that I'm sad I didn't get to try 20 more things. My son had the momo dumplings, and those were excellent as well. I forget what my husband ordered, but it had his nose running [he likes spicy so he was happy] amd he cleaned his plate. The naan was so soft and delicious I could've made a meal out of just that and the drinks were good too [blueberry mojito especially] Lastly, the service was excellent. They didn't seem to have a dedicated server for each table but rather a sort of communal staff where everyone just offers help where it may be needed. The beauty of Indian food, for those of us who were not raised with someone who cooked it regularly, is that it is an amalgam of spices and flavors not easily duplicated. Just crack open an Indian food cook book and you will see what I mean...just the mise en place portion of basic curry is sufficiently arduous enough to discourage any , but the ultra determined cook or Indian chef from tackling most dishes..,however in this case I did what most Americans do which is partook in a luncheon buffet which was a plethora of flavors and aromas which were both pleasant to experience, delicious and very affordable. As to the ambiance I will not offer any comment beyond, it was clean, had a full bar available and on this particular afternoon more than ample seating however it was a weekend day and given its proximity to NASA my guess is that during the week, coupled with the expansive nature of the entrees, their quality and affordability, I suspect it is something quite different during the weekday. Although there was no particular dish that impressed me more than any other I would say with confidence that vegetarians would be equally pleased with the Buffet. We stopped by at HT, on our way to Kemah. It was late afternoon so buffet was closed but they were open to order of the menu. It's a newly opened restaurant, it was clean and service was good, they checked on us couple of times. We ordered chicken lollipop, shahi kofta curry, butter naan, stir fry noodles and mango Lassi. Lollipop was bit different from what you usually get in other Indian restaurants, it felt more like pakora batter, it was good, the chutney it came with was good and spicy. Shahi kofta and butter naan was good. Noodles was bit under done and dry, it had a nice heat to it from garam masala, if asked I guess they would've redone it, but I dint had patience to wait. Mango Lassi was yumm but it was in room temperature, it's winter so we dint mind, but if it's summer, we would've definitely asked for cold one. Overall it's good, give it a try! read more

I always see this establishment packed. I decided to stop by for some lunch. It was a buffet I was super surprised. I have never seen Indian food served that way but I was very pleased everything was delicious. It was cooked nicely and everything had a card to tell you what it was. The naan bread they give it out and walk around which was pretty cool, it was so good I could of ate the whole basket it was light and fluffy. I will definitely come back for more. This restaurant is absolutely delicious, low-key, and felt authentic. We went for lunch and decided on the buffet. I'm usually a bit skeptical of buffets, but I was proved wrong here. Everything was kept hot, stocked, and full of flavor. I personally love a lot of pepper spice, and it filled my tastebuds with delight! Especially the spicy chicken (I can't remember which type, but the small bites of chicken not in a sauce, though all the types of chicken were good). Outstanding food and service. We were the only people sitting outside, but staff attended to us frequently and cheerfully. The food is among the best Indian-style food I've had in the greater Houston area. There are menu items I've seen nowhere else around here either. I've actually been back once since my first visit, and it did not disappoint then either. It's consistently good, which makes sense given its location and the high proportion of local repeat customers I encountered. Don't hesitate if this is your kind of food. The food was not tasty at all. I am Indian and have had amazing Indian food and this aint it. Im giving it 2 stars and not 1 because it is a Nepalese food place and Im thinking its because of that. The buffet was not hot, the naan was not hot, I asked for garlic naan and it was just hot naan with garlic powder (thats what it tasted like). The dishes that are classic, like butter chicken and paneer was ok. Pakora was mediocre. The service was ok. Ambience was mediocre but the price is 16.99$ so i guess you get what you pay for? I wouldn't recommend this place and unfortunately I took a coworker who has never had Indian food before here and she wasnt a fan. Which makes me sad. Either way I wouldn't recommend this place unless you're in a pinch. read more

We went for the 1st time last night with a group of friends. Omg! Delicious! I had the goat curry and it was so flavorful and tender. We also tried the water buffalo momo and chicken lollipops and loved them. The service was fantastic from start to finish. The owners met us themselves and showed us around letting us know of some of the upcoming renovations and plans. We're really excited about Himalayan Taj! I see a few duplicate 1 star reviews on Google. It's interesting because they looked like they were posted same day back to back by accounts that were opened just to leave a review, meanwhile all of the other reviews rave about the place. That's always suspicious. No one that loves Indian food or local business would give this place 1 star. Must be a troll or competition or something. Disappointing experience for sure. We read the reviews beforehand and we were super excited to try this place out. We've eaten at Desi Kitchen, Noon & Mirch, Tru India and many other Indian places throughout the Houston area and this was not up to par. First of all, the place was an absolute disaster. There were filthy tables and booths everywhere left with food on and off the floor. We waited for about 10 minutes to be seated and eventually had to be seated by the busboy. They were severely understaffed but the staff who were present were fantastic. I hate and I mean HATE having to return food and I can count on one hand how many times I've done it but when I did, our server was extremely apologetic and brought us free dessert to make up for it. We started with the chicken lollipop drumsticks which came with a spicy sauce. The chicken was raw inside. I'm talking bloody. We checked them all and yep - all undercooked. That's scary as hell. We decided to give them another chance and ordered the palak paneer and the chicken tikka masala. The chicken tikka masala was delicious. The palak paneer was basically flavorless. The garlic naan was warm, fluffy but had zero garlic flavor whatsoever. We're gonna stick with Noon and Mirch. read more
