It's definitely getting better then how it was. I use to come here a frequently a few years back for the beef or goat Biryani. At some point they changed the flavors when I asked them if they changed chefs or anything they told me no but that was definitely a lie. I've been there a few times within the past few months to give them another Chance. The first time I ordered the chicken biryani and mango lassi the chicken was dry biryani was just not flavorful. I still went back because I wanted to try the goat biryani since it use to be one of my favorites I thought the goat biryani would not be good because of how the chicken biryani was but let me tell you I was wrong. I've also tried their shrimp biryani and it's a better option than chicken. They do have pretty good traditional sweets. I always grab a few gulab jamun when I'm there. This place is... fine. I went with my husband and our friends; it was everyone's first time. The restaurant is in an older complex in a more isolated area of Clear Lake/Webster. We walked in and it was empty except for the counter girl. Next door, Dan's Pizza was hopping, though. So you order at the counter, get judged by the counter girl for your choices, and they bring you the food. You pay at the very end. I do like that they have cold pitchers of water for you to get from the fridge. I don't like that most of the entrees DON'T come with rice or naan. It was my first experience having to pay an additional something for rice. That's kind of ridiculous, right? The food comes out promptly. The food is very homemade. It's like a family-owned restaurant that pushes out family recipes. My husband ordered the chicken kahari, I ordered the chicken tikka masala, and we got samosas and garlic naan. The samosas were freshly fried but the breading was thick. It's kind of lacking in flavor. The tikka masala was very tomato-y; not as creamy as I like it. The chicken kahari was the same--very tomato-y. The garlic naan was excellent. The general consensus around my table was--it was fine, not good, definitely not excellent. I was confined home with a head cold while my husband went inside and ordered for me. He called me from resturant asking what I wanted and the cashier was very polite and patient because I knew I wanted Indian food but I noticed Uber Eatz/ D dash has a habit of having out of date places in its repertoire. We asked a lot of questions. I will say some of thier menu items don't show on the sight and so glad we didn't depend on that. I ordered the Beef Vindalu, Beef Biryani, hot tea and sweet lasi also by accident. (I'll explain.) All were very tasty and flavorful. Beef Vindalu was a nice size portion of meat, good proportion to potatoes. Beef Biryani was a huge serving! So good! Tea, wish I would have asked for larger size. Yummy and cleared my head cold up. As for the Lasi, my husband didn't know I didn't really want that this time around because it was full of milk. I didn't want to order because didn't know if that would make my head cold worse with all the dairy. But he got it anyway, it was good. We love to stop by Shalamar or order their food to go. The restaurant is in a less than inviting area of HW3, but don't let that stop you from trying it. The food is always affordable and the portions are quite large. The staff is always welcoming. The dining room is spacious and clean but we tend to visit in off peak hours and there are usually 1 or 2 tables with patrons. We typically enjoy: - Samosas - Chicken Biryani - Daal - Chana masala - Chicken Tikka Masala - Chicken Vindalu - Chicken qorma - Chicken Tikka Boti - Garlic Naan Clearly we have way too many favorites. They open early enough that you can be there at the beginning of lunch time to get some delicious treats. We recommend stopping by and giving Shalamar a try if you are in the area. I went there with my family (3 kids between 7 and 11, wife and dad) after visiting NASA. I have to say that this whole area clearly lacks a good halal desi restaurant as this place disappointed us with its ambiance as well. There are a couple of tables in front of the ordering table. We ordered a Nihari, chicken biryani and chicken Karahi. The chicken biryani was mediocre at best, while the chicken Karahi was nothing you'd expect for a Karahi. Same is true for the Nihari as well. The servings are really small as well. There is no side salad or Raita for your dishes. You have to order Naans separately. And there is a charge for credit card as well. Needless to say, I was really disappointed by this place and won't recommend it to anyone until they improve their food and get it right. read more

A samosa is.......well......for lack of better description it's like an empanada. But empanadas are mexican and samosa is indian. It's a pastry thing stuffed with potatoes and spices. There ya go. This place is phenomenal! Authentic! The Korma is the best I've ever had. Please note that they use the dark meat, cut up chicken with the bone in. This threw me off a bit when first receiving it but my first bite sent all doubt away. The garlic naan is absolutely amazing. The food was very fresh but not very fast. Every once in a while I crave good Indian food and accustomed to going to places with lunch buffets. This place didn't have lunch buffet and seems like a hole in the wall type of place. I ordered the chicken tikka Marsala with garlic naan at the counter then sat down. When the food came out I was surprised that it didn't come with rice. I always assumed rice just comes with chicken tikka Marsala but apparently you have to specify an order of basmati rice which cost extra. I didn't question it and just ate it with my garlic naan. The sauce tasted different than what I'm accustomed to. It was more tangy and tart like tomato based compared to the more creamy yogurt base I'm use to. Nevertheless, it was good. The garlic naan was very good. It was like a very well cooked thin crust pizza without the toppings, nicely crispy and flaky on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. My only complaint was I wish it had more chicken in the dish. I was left not full. Had it came with rice, it would've been the right amount of food for me. The price was very reasonable. My entire order came out to be $11 without tip. I will definitely come back and try other items on their menu and will make sure to specify with basmati rice. read more

My husband and I were visiting NASA and wanted Indian food for lunch. We just googled for Indian food nearby and this place was about 15min away from NASA but had the best reviews. We arrived at around 1pm and there were plenty of parkings in front of the restaurant. I am always a big fan of the Indian goat/lamb curry therefore I got the goat vindalo. It was a bit spicy to my taste but so well flavored. Potato in the curry soup was soft and herbs used were very aromatic. My husband got the chick tikka masala and it was very delicious as well. We shared the garlic naan which came with fresh herb and garlic on top and tasted amazing. Service here was fast and the cashier lady was nice and efficient.
