I love trying Indian restaurants around the city and this was a first for me! The magical maggi rolls caught my attention. Any Indian knows that maggi is a staple to have at home. Eating them in as a roll vessel is simply well... magical. I enjoyed these and almost ordered more. The Andra chicken curry was absolutely delicious as well. I enjoyed it and was so stuffed with our other items that I had to save it and eat at home. The portions were great to share or eat for one. My kids 5&7 also enjoyed the kids menu and licked their plates clean up...a rare occurrence. Any place that has momos gets on my list to come back, especially if they are great like they were here! Monks in Pearland is a solid spot if you're in the mood for something a little different. We ordered the goat biryani, chicken tikka masala, and a paneer dish. The biryani packed a good amount of spice, which I personally loved. The chicken tikka masala was decent but pretty standard. The paneer dish, though, was definitely unusual and had a flavor that felt a bit off on its own, but it worked better when paired with rice. Prices were a bit on the higher side, especially for a more casual, hole in the wall kind of place. Our waitress said we should try more unique dishes next time. Overall, it's a good restaurant with an interesting, fusion menu. I'd come back to try other dishes and see what else stands out. read more

Had a dinner meet up at The Monk's Indian Bistro, and overall, the experience was just okay. The service was polite, but the food didn't blow me away. I'm no stranger to Indian cuisine, it's very similar to the West Indian foods I grew up on, and I've also explored Indian dishes during my travels to Dubai so I came in with a pretty open palate. I ordered the Tandoor Murgh which I didn't realize was an appetizer. It was flavorful but a little on the dry side. The biggest issue was timing for me. The dishes came out at different times, with odd pairings, and we waited a long time for the main courses which took away from the flow of the evening. By the time the main dishes came I was already full and ready to go. Food Highlights: Mango Lassi, Cilantro Lemon Soup. The lighting in the restaurant also felt a bit too dim. The space could really benefit from brighter lighting to freshen up the ambiance. I wanted to enjoy it more, but there wasn't anything particularly memorable about the food. read more

We've been out to this location twice now, and both times they have been great. The parking is easy enough, as they're located on a strip inside if a larger shopping center with space everywhere. Walking in, it's clean and they always quickly greet and either seat you, or offer you the couch whilst waiting for a table to open up. I haven't had to wait more than 5 minutes. Service has been a little slow consistently through both experiences, so just know that going in. We've gotten the chicken house special Momos both times, and love them. Their goat biryani is fantastic. Word of advice, mix it first. The goodness lurks at the bottom. The Spicy-Masala-Noodles-Chicken was really good but not necessarily something I would get again. I was going for a little more flavor. The goat Jalfrezi was really good, and would absolutely go more rounds with it. Really enjoyed our food. Service speed needs a boost, but the staff are really friendly, and I appreciate that disposition. Looking forward to the next visit! read more

Indo Chinese food and the Indian dishes were the worst part. Genuinely the worst butter chicken of my life. It was so sweet and had a punch in the face cardamom taste. The naan was flat. It should be warm and fluffy. I like the cauliflower manchuria, it had a good flavor. The hakka noodles were okay. The overall aesthetic of the restaurant is disjointed in my opinion. The Butter Chicken Masala was fragrant and flavorful without being too heavy. The Garlic Naan leaned on the thinner side--perfect if you prefer that style--and had just the right balance of garlic without being overpowering. The Veggie Samosas were generously sized; the one thing lacking is the green dipping sauce - it's purely salt and lemon, not as much to pair with the samosas. The Mango Lassi was creamy, refreshing, and delicious--definitely a must-try. I also appreciated that they included complimentary desserts with the entrées, which was such a thoughtful touch. While the menu is mainly Indian, there are also a few Chinese-inspired dishes, giving some nice variety for different tastes. The Sichuan chicken noodles was very good, along with their spin on fried rice. Overall, great flavors, careful packaging, and a lovely extra with the free desserts. We were a party of six and got seated within minutes on a weekday. It's a smaller restaurant and there's different shows and music videos playing on the tvs. The staff had some yummy recommendations. I got butter garlic naan, chili garlic noodles, biryani and manchurian chicken. The naan and biryani wasn't my favorite as they weren't the most flavorful and hard but I loved the manchurian and chili garlic noodles. Those two things I will definitely come back to order. Overall good flavors and a convenient location for Indian food in Pearland, but their Achilles heel is their portion size. I came by for lunch on a weekday and there was only one other party in the restaurant. We were asked to wait on their comfy couches while the server set up our table. Between two people, we ordered two entrees and an order of naan. The chicken tika masala was tasty with a very sweet profile. However, the serving size was tiny and we finished it pretty quickly. The green chili with chicken was herbaceous and slightly spicy although not a very bold flavor profile. Overall, The Monk's in Pearland sells itself on its convenient location to those who live nearby. Otherwise, there is not much that will draw me here given the price to food ratio. read more

We've been to Monk's in humble and loved it so when we found out they opened a location in Pearland, we were stoked! We came in during lunch time on a Saturday afternoon. We were the first customers of the day and were immediately sat in a booth. There was a pitcher of water at each table so it was nice that we could help ourselves to some water, but would've preferred ice water. The staff were very friendly and checked on us at the right amount of frequency throughout our meal. To start off, we got the chicken momos. Get them with the tandoori added on, it's worth the extra $2! It came with this cold but spicy herb sauce that took the flavor to another level, but the momos were just ass good by themselves if you're not a big spice person. For entrees, we split the goat biryani and the goat Kadai masala with a side of garlic naan. Kadai was new for me so I wasn't sure what to expect. It was delicious! It was nice and smoky and wasn't very spicy. The texture is similar to a vindaloo, thick but still saucy. Careful when biting into it, the goat had bones. The biryani also had lots of flavor and the goat in it was excellent. The biryani had more of a kick to it than I was expecting so if you're spice averse, consider something else on the menu. The garlic naan was good, but it's like other places' naan. Nothing to write home about. I'm happy that the food quality of this location matched the Humble location. I previously tried Monk's in the Heights and loved it, so I was excited to discover that they had a location in Pearland as well. The interior is well-kept and furnished in a somewhat grandiose manner, staying true to Indian roots. In particular, I found the waiting area very neat. Quite an upgrade from the Heights location, which is takeout only. However, I feel that some of the food was just okay this time around. The portions were also smaller than I expected (except the chicken lollipops). Chicken tikka masala - sauce was great, went well with garlic naan and rice, but the chicken tasted subpar. Could've been cooked for longer. 3/5 Chicken lollipop (not pictured) - they nailed it! Abundant seasoning and spices used. Spicy and not for the faint of heart. 5/5 Goat vindaloo - first timer for this dish. It was ok but nothing that stood out to me. Also, there was barely any meat in the vindaloo. I had previously tried goat chops, which I absolutely love, and thought I should give this a shot; not a lot of similarities. 3/5 I appreciated the server giving my friend recommendations since he has a low spice tolerance. Came in for a Thursday lunch but was disappointed to be notified that they were out of their INDIAN THALI LUNCH SPECIAL. It was a bit odd considering that was only lunch item that they had & it wasn't that busy. (4/5) MONK SPECIAL TANDOORI CHICKEN MOMO: It is a $2 uncharge for the dumplings to be tossed in the tandoori sauce. It comes with 6 large pieces so perfect to share. The green dipping sauce was also delicious & we saved it to eat with our other entrees (4/5) ANDHRA GOAT CURRY: We asked our server for some recommendations & she said that this dish wasn't on the menu but they do serve it. She really liked it so we decided to give it a try. It was very savory & tomatoey. The goat was tender. At first the portion seemed a little small but it did fill us up (4/5) STREET STYLE CHICKEN NOODLE: One of their CHINESE influence dishes. This entree was very generous with their portion. I came here on a rainy day after watching a movie at the nearby theater. It wasn't too busy. Only 2-3 other parties were also there dining in. The waitress was helpful. I had their top soup, Manchow and added chicken and my main dish was chicken tikka Marsala. My friend had veg samosas and a tasty vegan dish. All the food was delicious, fresh and flavorful and I'd order any of the dishes again. Best masala chai I've had! The whole restaurant is authentic, and it's Indian / Chinese fusion so there are two cultures to pay homage to. Service was not very personable, but efficient and quick. Bollywood music videos on every TV, beautiful interior design with full bar. We went for lunch and the food was DELICIOUS. We are both very white Americans and what we ordered was NOT spicy while still being full of deep Indian flavors. The food was very good. We shared some sweet corn and chicken soup, it was very good. They have Chinese and Indian food...I think this fusion cuisine was started by Hakka people that immigrated to two Indian Cities. The vegetable samosas were very tasty, flaky crust with lots of goodies inside. The Chicken Tikka Masala was full of flavor and tender. The naan was 5 stars as well. Stopped in for a week day lunch. I ordered the Indian Thali lunch special. It had a variety of small items that was just the right amount of food for lunch. I cleaned my plate, but was not overly stuffed and still hungry. All in all it is a nice little sampler platter and if you cannot decided what to order I say give it a try. The service was good, and the restaurant looked clean, however the menus are worn out looking. I would like to go back with the family and try several more dishes. I can confidently say that this place is one of the best restaurants in Pearland. Every single dish was delicious, the owners and staff are the nicest people ever (they gave us some free dessert!), and I love the atmosphere. All of the food came in a timely manner, and we ordered so much that we had several meals for multiple days after! My favorite thing had to be the Dynamite Shrimp. The fried batter provided contrast with the sauce on the plate, and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. The sauce was one of the most delicious things I've eaten, and I kept dipping naan and mixing rice into it even after we ate all the shrimp. Two other dishes my family really liked was the Kadai Masala/Goat and the Spicy Masala Noodles/Shrimp. The curry was super tasty with lots of goat in it, and the noodles were so flavorful. Would highly recommend the paneer tikka masala and the spicy masala fried rice (though maybe get a mango lassi on the side to cool down the spice). These were both so flavorful and enjoyable to eat. Service was solid, though they ended up bringing our appetizer (gobi Manchurian) last. Honestly I was a bit dissatisfied with the gobi Manchurian, as it wasn't as sweet or tangy as I've enjoyed previously. But otherwise food was great. It was New Year's Day and my family and I were on the way to our favorite Indian food spot in the greater Houston area. You know which place I'm talking about! We passed up The Monk's and decided to save some time and check out this new spot in Pearland. On social media, the locals really like this place. Yelp had some mixed reviews. Our gamble mostly paid off, but this place has some kinks to work out. I'll start with the bad. Upon walking in, we were the only patrons in the place. It was early dinner so it did not raise too many red flags for me. Looking around we saw atleast 6 tables full of dirty plates. That was a turn off for sure. Another thing that was odd was that every table had a pitcher of room temp water. As they did clean, they cleaned the table and left the pitcher there. I would think they would put fresh pitchers and water as people sit. The employees were nice, but not efficient at all. There was a wait to order, a wait to get napkins, and long waits between each dish ordered. It took about 15 minutes between the first and last dish to come out. That is unacceptable if you're with people you're not comfortable sharing with. In our case it was ok. On to the good. The food was absolutely outstanding! We quickly went from irritated to singing the praise of The Monk's. We all ordered different Indian items and I went with the one Chinese item. Portions were good and everyone got to try everything without anything running out. We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Goat Vindaloo, Tikka Fried Rice, Saag Paneer, Pepper Chicken, Green Chilli Chicken and Garlic Naan. Every single items was delicious. The favorites were the rice and the chilli chicken. If service is a deciding factor on if you like a place or not, this might not be the place for you. I was leaning towards writing them off until I tried the food. Does not mean I will rush back anytime soon. We shall see! read more

It's Christmas eve, we were going to have some relatives come over but their flight got cancelled due to weather. Cooking came to halt, and we decided to eat out. After driving around to find all our usual joints closed, our last hope was Monks, and wow- it was open and working the usual hours. The weather outside called for soup. We got the sweet corn soup and gobi Manchurian to begin with. It was served really soon and was hot. I like the Manchurian here, it does not come with the ketchup drowned cauliflower, it's different, and also they made it crispy, with medium spice and it was very good. Then we ordered the burnt garlic paneer fried rice, this took forever to come. Two persons who seemed to be taking the order came down more than once to check if we were fine, but somehow it took forever for the food to come. Today actually we did not mind because we bumped into our close friends and we were busy chatting, so until we checked the time did not realize how long it took. But, the fried rice was exceptionally tasty. Our friends suggested to try the Tandoor Panner momo, and the vegetarian keema biryani, and how they are big fans of these two dishes- this time we were full, next time surely. They also had praise for Charishma- We met her for the first time, but they had been attended to by her several times and were all praise for how friendly she was and how quick her food service was. Hmm.... I minded the fact that the empty plates were not cleared off the tables, there was no one to clear it. Hopefully they will get someone soon for that, I do hear about labour shortage. So much more to try, will be visiting Monks more often. read more

We had a really bad experience with the Monk restaurant, especially with the customer service, which was addressed on-site, and they added so much chili to the dish that we couldn't eat the carry-out. The manager has no customer service skills and is extremely rude. Our friends and I will not be catering or buying from the monk. Came here for lunch today with my parents, we have been wanting to try this place since Mother's Day but when we came there was a long line, today no line! We were the first people in the restaurant it seeemed! For apps we got the veg samosa and I asked for the saag paneer as an app as well with garlic naan! I love saag paneer and this was the best I've ever had I think! I also got the butter chicken which was not my most favorite still yummy and creamy! I called a couple of times in the last 2 weeks but no one answered the phone. Went there and ordered food as Biryani Express is moving and was closed that day. Yesterday, I tried the same, but no one answered the phone. I went there and was told they stopped taking orders on the Phone. The waiting time was 45 mins so cancelled the order. They want you to come to the restaurant and order food for takeout and wait there for 45 minutes. Never heard of any restaurant doing this in Houston. The busiest and the most famous Indian restaurants in Houston don't do that. read more
