After waiting more than six months to try The Monk's Indian Fusion, I finally conquered my culinary white whale here on Monday night. After I woke up from a day-long nap I helped myself to after returning to Houston from Chicago, I realized I haven't had anything to eat since breakfast at O'Hare so I decided to come here. Aside from a few diners and the staff, I essentially had the restaurant to myself. I sat in the bar area, which features alphabet-shaped shelves that form the word Monk's. My waiter provided me with a glass, a pitcher of water and menu. Having read the menu online before coming here, I knew what I wanted to order: Gongura Chicken Biryani. I had it cooked with a medium level of spice. The dish arrived with a complementary yogurt that the waiter instructed me to mix in. I was surprised at how sizable the regular pack biryani is. By my estimate, it could feed two people. With a drumstick and other chicken pieces, the biryani lived up to up my expectations as a fiery, delicious meal. I had to ask for milk so I could be able to finish. The Monk's presents an ambience and an environment that's suitable for dates. I imagine it's a bit more crowded on the weekends. read more

Why 4 stars? Because this was a good option to introduce my parents to Indian cuisine. --- --- --- My parents go to church nearby and have always been intrigued to try it. I'm not sure if either of them have literally ever had Indian food before this occasion, so I recommended the usual entry points: chicken tikka masala and butter chicken. Both were... fine? Solid? Inoffensive? Maybe it's because we ordered it mild, but I found them both to be a little on the bland side, if anything. Not bad, just not exciting. But what pushes it from 3-stars to 4 were three things: 1) The garlic naan was highly addicting. I could have eaten 3 baskets of that stuff. 2 and 3) My mom ordered the Wok Tossed Hakka Noodles and spring rolls. Both were fire. The Monk's Indian Fusion is different than other Indian restaurants I've been to. The interior and decor looks high class, but this place is actually a modest restaurant. There's plenty of space inside for a large gathering. Their cuisine is Indian infused with Asian. They have noodles, fried rice, soups, fries and crispy rolls consist of that. There's also the typical Indian dishes like Biryani, Samosas, Tikka Masala, Curry and grilled dishes that are just as good. Everything from the kitchen is made fresh, with real ingredients. The menu is a little pricey, though. Yes, for those of you that drink (NOT me), The Monk's Indian Fusion does have a bar. They also offer catering. The water served at my table was at room temperature, which is unacceptable since customers prefer ice cold water. Me and my companion barely had set down for three minutes, when our waitress already asked us if we were ready to order! Ridiculous! The "regular" portion sized dishes are HUGE! You're better off sharing your entree AND appetizer with multiple people at your table instead. read more

The menu is a dream if you love both Chinese and Indian cuisine, truly the best of both worlds. We started with the Gobi Manchuria: crunchy battered cauliflower in a thick, garlicky sauce. Comforting, bold, and perfectly seasoned. Then came the Goat Vindaloo with white rice and naan. The goat was very tender, and the sauce had that sweet‑tangy balance that keeps you going back for more. Paired with the fluffy rice and the naan, which was flaky, pillowy, and crispy all at once, it was wonderful. We also tried the Chinese street noodles with egg. Very spicy, but incredibly addictive. Glad we finally have Monks location in the Clear lake area after having to commute to Pearland/Heights. We went two weeks after the initial opening and the location was packed. The location was large with a modern interior and staff were friendly and accommodating. We tried the Chili garlic shrimp, butter chicken, chicken biryani, chicken tikka momos, street style noodles,and garlic naan. The dishes were flavorful and spicy but portions were a little on the smaller side. But we especially liked the momos with the chutney and the street style noodles. Probably our favorite indo-chinese chain in Houston and worth trying if you live in the Webster area. read more

This is probably my new favorite Indian restaurant in the Webster area if you're looking for Indian fusion. I love indo-Chinese cuisine because the flavors pack a punch without conforming to any one type of dish. We got the gully paneer with the medium spicy level, and it was super yummy. Definitely my favorite dish of the three we got to share. We also got Chinese bhel, which tasted so fresh and crunchy with the onions and cilantro on top. The chili garlic gobi sauces SO RICH, and that with naan was 10/10 as well. Our waitress spoke telugu, and the staff were really nice, so if you want to have Indian food definitely come here! Also loved the ambiance because of all the booths, and I can't lie - seeing Harry Potter on the tv screen was entertaining. read more

Everything we had was great, but the crispy chicken was the standout perfectly seasoned, crunchy, and packed with flavor. It's the kind of place that leaves you already planning your next visit. The service was excellent. The food was outstanding. I ordered the Chicken Korba Curry and my friend ordered the Dynamite Shrimp and it was all very delicious. I use a motorized wheelchair. The tables were a little bit low for me but I was able to use the bar for my table. The place was spacious so I had plenty of room to maneuver my wheelchair. I will be back for more! read more

First time at Monk's 5/29 for early dinner. We enjoy Indian food but are far from being experts. Found Monk's to be very authentic and flavorful. Had the Jalferzi and Mughlai, both with chicken. Enjoyed every last bite! Entrees come with bowl of long grain rice. Entrees are 5 star. Also had the garlic naan which was just OK, like the service - 3 star. They were doing a lot of takeout business, and there are several interesting dishes we want to try on future visits. Overall 4.5 stars. read more

Portions are small, but that's OK because the food isn't great. I ordered saag paneer and chicken tikka masala. The paneer had more onions in it than spinach, and the onions were so undercooked they were crunchy. It really was stomach turning. The chicken tikka masala sauce is OK, but there were only five cubes of chicken in the whole order, also chunks of undercooked onion and jalapeños in the chicken tikka masala. It would be nice if they had some descriptions of the ingredients on the menus, because I would never have ordered this. I'm trying to eat it, because I spent $40 on it. I think the majority of it is going to go in the trash. The people were nice, but I couldn't be more disappointed. I won't be back. read more

I got the saag paneer, and it was a delightful experience. It was sufficiently buttery and spicy (I got medium spice). I like that they don't use cilantro - only as a garnish. I called before to ask if they used cilantro in this dish, and the lady who answered the phone was so kind and went to ask the kitchen for me. The salt level was perfect. The basmati rice was also very well cooked in my opinion. They said it would be ready in 15 minutes, and I got there right at 15-16 minutes, it was ready as I walked in. We've been here three times now each time we think the service should be better but it's not. The food is great. The service horrible. Last time there were two tables and the service was still deplorable. They literally acted like they would like us to leave. I thought this would end up being a to go place but after thinking about it, there are too many other great restaurants in Friendswood that want our business, I'd rather give it to them.
