I've been coming here with family for years and even remember when this location first opened (see…read moreoriginal review from 2009). 888 Bistro has had its fair share of ups and downs and ownership changes over the years, but this was our first time back in about 2 years, so I was curious to see if anything's changed since our previous experience was not so great. We came on a Thursday night and there were only a few other cars in the parking lot. Dumpling World across the street had a fuller lot, so we were about to reconsider our choice, but decided to follow through with our original choice. Upon walking in around 7pm, there were a few other tables dining in. In case you didn't know, there are two menus here: an Americanized menu and a Chinese menu. Be sure to ask for both so that you get all the choices to select from! We ordered, the Honey Black Pepper Steak, Triple Delight Pan Fried Asian Noodles, Pork and Bamboo Shoots, and Sizzling Black Pepper Beef. The former two are on the Americanized menu and the latter two are on the Chinese menu. The Honey Black Pepper Steak has been my favorite dish here - it's deep fried pieces of beef coated in a black pepper sauce with a touch of sweetness...so good! The Pan Fried Noodles were crispy, but meat/vegetable to noodle ratio was a little off, as they could've put a good amount more of beef/chicken/shrimp on there. The Pork and Bamboo Shots and Sizzling Beef were both very tasty and hadn't changed from how I remember them. Our server was someone we recognized as having worked here for years. Unfortunately I cannot remember her name, but she's an expert here and knows the menu by heart. She constantly came around to check on us, and we were warmly taken care of. One thing I noticed was how adamant the staff was about watching your step as you get into and out of the booths. There are even signs on the tables and out the exit doors warning you to watch your step. Something must have happened here recently that caused them to take extra precautions (and make it known). This is a good local spot in Clear Lake that my family and I will continue to hit up for an easy dinner since there are not many Asian options in the area. The locations in Pearland and near Gulfgate are also worth trying (just know that some menu items may differ).

In a landscape littered with limp noodles and sauces that taste like they were mixed by committee, Wong Chef shows up with swagger. The food comes fast, hot, and unapologetically bold -- the way good takeout should. There's a rhythm to it. You order, blink, and suddenly there's a bag at your door radiating heat like it's been hustled straight from the wok to your doorstep. Not rushed -- urgent. Like someone in that kitchen understands that hunger is a real, living thing and they're not about to let you suffer. And the portions? They're not shy. They're the kind of generous servings that make you sit back halfway through and think, this is going to be even better tomorrow, if you somehow manage not to finish it all in one sitting. Every dish hits with layers -- heat, sweetness, salt, comfort -- the whole sensory passport stamped in one container. But the crown jewel is Chef Wong's General Tso's. This isn't the soggy, syrupy stuff you settle for at 11 p.m. This is crispy, saucy, addictive General Tso's that walks the tightrope between sweet and spicy without falling into the usual sticky mess. It's the kind of dish that makes you pause mid‑bite and mutter something unprintable in appreciation. Wong Chef isn't trying to reinvent anything. They're just doing the classics like they matter -- and that alone puts them miles ahead of the pack. When the craving hits for something fast, fiery, and made by people who clearly know their way around a wok, Wong Chef delivers. Literally and figuratively. If you want, I can punch this up even further -- sharper, grittier, more travel‑journal‑meets‑late‑night‑kitchen energy.

The eggplant dish mentioned is very rich and flavorful, with the eggplant cooked to be soft and almost mushy (but in a good way), nicely complimented by particularly the beef. Their lo mein is a little watery on various occasions, but still maintains a great and very nice flavor. Their fried rice is one of my favorites in the area and is always very well made no matter the time of day. The fried chicken wings, crab puffs, and crab bomber appetizers are both just such standouts in what is often an overlooked part of the menu by many restaurants. I have nothing but praise about how this place handles food. The staff is all really nice and welcoming from entrance to walking out the door. They are very good with order additions or food/allergy restrictions and the dishes always come out in a timely (but not rushed) manner, no matter whether it is a weekday morning or a busy dinner crowd. I'd recommend the lunch special for anyone coming around that time, as the deal of egg rolls, soup, and an entree or 2-3 sushi rolls for a low price is a steal. The ambiance nice for sure and the tables are clean, though I do sometimes get disoriented by the wallpaper they use (I think it's just me though). Whenever this place first opened, I was very disappointed in the restaurant. Meals were salt with a side of meat and rice and was just overall underwhelming.
