Our go to Chinese food in the area. It just does the job every time. Always ready in 15-20 minutes. Nothing is bad here.

I've been coming here with family for years and even remember when this location first opened (see original review from 2009). 888 Bistro has had its fair share of ups and downs and ownership changes over the years, but this was our first time back in about 2 years, so I was curious to see if anything's changed since our previous experience was not so great. We came on a Thursday night and there were only a few other cars in the parking lot. Dumpling World across the street had a fuller lot, so we were about to reconsider our choice, but decided to follow through with our original choice. Upon walking in around 7pm, there were a few other tables dining in. In case you didn't know, there are two menus here: an Americanized menu and a Chinese menu. Be sure to ask for both so that you get all the choices to select from! We ordered, the Honey Black Pepper Steak, Triple Delight Pan Fried Asian Noodles, Pork and Bamboo Shoots, and Sizzling Black Pepper Beef. The former two are on the Americanized menu and the latter two are on the Chinese menu. The Honey Black Pepper Steak has been my favorite dish here - it's deep fried pieces of beef coated in a black pepper sauce with a touch of sweetness...so good! The Pan Fried Noodles were crispy, but meat/vegetable to noodle ratio was a little off, as they could've put a good amount more of beef/chicken/shrimp on there. The Pork and Bamboo Shots and Sizzling Beef were both very tasty and hadn't changed from how I remember them. Our server was someone we recognized as having worked here for years. Unfortunately I cannot remember her name, but she's an expert here and knows the menu by heart. She constantly came around to check on us, and we were warmly taken care of. One thing I noticed was how adamant the staff was about watching your step as you get into and out of the booths. There are even signs on the tables and out the exit doors warning you to watch your step. Something must have happened here recently that caused them to take extra precautions (and make it known). This is a good local spot in Clear Lake that my family and I will continue to hit up for an easy dinner since there are not many Asian options in the area. The locations in Pearland and near Gulfgate are also worth trying (just know that some menu items may differ). read more

We have eaten at 888 at least every other week and have continued giving them chances, but today was the last straw. Before I even found the bug in my fried rice, I was already disappointed because the pepper steak was mostly onions and bell peppers with barely any steak. Then finding a bug in the fried rice completely disgusted me. I am angry, disappointed, and honestly can't even explain how upset this made me feel. Cleanliness and food quality should be a priority. After this experience, we will not be returning. read more

Old school, no frills Chinese American spot in Clear Lake. Plenty of parking is available in the front lot. The interior is an old school setup and feels like an early 2000's Chinese takeout spot. The menu is all in English and mainly comprised of takeout favorites. We ordered a few dishes family style; General Tso's chicken, honey walnut shrimp, green beans, stir fried beef, eggplant etc. The dishes came with white rice. Most of the dishes taste like what you would expect, and the pricing is honestly pretty low for 2025; the portions are pretty decent as well. Not sure about authenticity either but it is Chinese American through and through. Definitely a decent spot for affordable late night dine in or takeout but don't be expecting super authentic dining or the best Chinese food you've ever eaten. read more

I don't understand the hate for 888. They have always given me respectful and prompt service. When I order ahead of time, my order is almost always ready or within minutes of being ready when I arrive to pick it up. I evaluate most Chinese restaurants using my favorite dish: mapo tofu. And let me tell you, 888 has the best mapotofu in the Clear Lake area. They use the proper tingly peppercorns, there is a good ratio of meat to tofu to sauce (and they can make it vegetarian if you request). Most of their other Sichuan dishes are good too, such as the spicy eggplant in garlic sauce. I have also had great success with their Southern Chinese dishes (your usual orange chicken, lo mein, etc). 888 is one of the few restaurants in the area that does different types of Chinese cuisines well. read more

The food was OK. The orange chicken was neither orange in color nor did it taste like orange chicken. It tasted OK but it wasn't like any other orange chicken I've every eaten. Service was fine until we paid the tab. I paid in cash and when they brought the change back they did not bring the coin change. It wasn't a lot & I didn't say anything to the server as Service to that point was pretty good. I eat out a lot & this has never happened before in my life. Normally I would add the coin change into my tip. As we left I went to the counter & told the person there that I did not receive the correct change. He said "oh most people don't want the coins in their pocket." Apperantly the restaurant doesn't mind it in their pockets. I guess they are doing me a favor? This is STRICTLY ILLEGAL! This review is based on a to-go order. First, the lady who took my order over the phone was polite and efficient, and she also read my order back correctly. Outstanding customer service! I arrived, and my order was bagged and ready to go. Excellent. The hot & sour soup here is good, if not a little tart on my visit. Still, it hit the spot. Eggplant in garlic sauce here is spot-on. This has always been one of my favorite dishes, and this joint pulls it off wonderfully with soft slices of Asian eggplant swimming in a tasty garlic-infused sauce. The orange beef, however, is the reason I cannot award another star. Although the flavor was fine -- orange and some heat -- the fried beef was about as dry and stringy as a 300-yard roll of twine. I tried a bite ... dry and stringy. I moved to the other side of the container ... same. It's a shame too, because this place has the sauce part down. Chinese restaurants (at least in the U.S.) tend to use the velveting technique to tenderize cheap meat. The dude working the line obviously missed that part on my order. I have been to other 888 locations in the neighborhood, and they all do a fantastic job. Perhaps my orange beef happened on a bad night. Still, that should be their loss, and not the loss of my $15 for something that was truly not fit to be served. Regardless, I will return here and sample other favorites. read more

Oh, beautiful day with with a beautiful lunch. What more could us common folk wish for. We started off with some piping hot Jasmine tea with a side of honey, ordered the fried spring rolls and our entrees were Tso's chicken and broccoli and I had the Udon Noodle with beef. Everything was delish. The only thing I don't care for is what feels like a communal bowl of chili sauce. I don't, like eating peanuts at your local watering hole. We requested some modifications on the crispy sweet and sour snapper. Blanca, the manager, came by our table to make sure the fish was cooked exactly how we were ordering it. It was perfect! The dining room was about 1/3 of the way full so we didn't have to wait too long for the food. I really had a wonderful experience with my family. For one thing that I like they always answer the phone like if they have a smile on your face happy to reach you in another thing I've never been there, but I've been ordering my food to go and they deliver it to me and it's always so good so delicious. Everything that I have tried. Different is really good and they delivery a person is always polite, which is really nice that they have a smile on their face when they're living and working I really appreciate that but like I said all their food that I have tried in different times have always been so good. I would rate the food a 5 each and every time however a BIG caveat is when ordering online, you can't pay without leaving a 15% tip!!!!! WTH?? They put it in a bag for a 15% tip?? I don't even have a Choice on how much I want to leave. Then when you go inside to pick it up and you have to total out the receipt it asks for ANOTHER tip. I always get good food from them. Well this past Thursday I had food delivered and one of the meals was wrong. I called for them to bring me what I ordered. Long story short. The manager was really nice. I like her. When the driver came and brought me my correct meal he asked for the wrong one back. I looked at him like really. You are taking food back to a restaurant that was delivered to a customer house. That's just gross to me. I'm not saying they where going to sell it to someone or put it back in the kitchen, but it makes me wonder if this has happened before. I came here with my family and some family friends and what an enjoyable experience it was!! Ask for a private room and if you're lucky you can get one if it's available. We had a party of 7 and it was perfect. This place is under new management and said new manager is DELIGHTFUL. Incredibly sweet and kind. She checked in on us like three times and even gave us some great hook ups. Let me tell you about the tea she brewed and tested at our table. It was chrysthathamum, goji berries, and dried dates. I could NOT stop raving about it all night omg. I hope she considers making it a menu item. It nearly changed my life. It was sweet and non caffeinated but also light and refreshing and soothing. Our table ordered a variety of dishes including chicken wings, mapo tofu, fish soup, eggplant stew, spicy shrimp, green beans, and the duck. The food came out warm and fast and yummy. My brother likes the fish soup the best. It's got a tang to it. I liked the green beans and mapo tofu. Careful. The mapo tofu is spicy. And so is the shrimp. It was all delightfully delicious. Super authentic and lovely. I would 10/10 come back again and highly recommend this place to everyone in the area. read more

I go to this location often since I work in the area, never really had any complaints. But yesterday I ordered the minced chicken lettuce wraps & I guess the lettuce came straight from the garden... There was ALOT of bugs all in it as if it wasn't even attempted to be rinsed/washed. I lost my appetite that's for sure. Please wash your produce better! I'm trying to stay positive & hoping they weren't bugs from the kitchen. But one of them was still alive. read more

*Read my original review. This one is much the same except this time I'm rating. The service here seems to be consistently poor. Our server was staring off into space like she was waiting for a bus. Today she ordered egg drop soup and got it reasonably soon. I got an egg roll and after 10 minutes we finally flagged someone down, who got our server. She said the egg roll comes with the meal. Had she had mentioned it when ordering or visited our table during our long wait we would have learned that and asked to bring it as an appetizer given we substituted it for the soup. The egg roll was good. *Much* later our meal came. She had redfish and I had the shredded pork with garlic sauce. This time the pork was tough, and on the hot end of spicy as I mentioned in my 2018 review. I don't think I've been here since and will try to avoid coming again. __ We've eaten out every meal for 30+ years except for the past COVID year. read more

This is our favorite Chinese food in the area, because , firstly, the staff is always friendly and helpful and eager to answer our questions and give advice as to what to order, and secondly, because of their traditional Chinese menu, including special Szechuan dishes I can't get anywhere else. Our experience is that the food is always fresh and absolutely delicious, and I may or may not be slightly addicted to the Szechuan food. read more

I'm not sure why the community praises this restaurant as the BEST Chinese, but I beg to differ. When we arrived and seated, no one came to serve us. We had been sitting for 25 minutes and no one came by, so I notified the hostess. She then sent this rude waiter, Marbin over and he was awful. He gave me attitude when he arrived to our table - asking us "what did we want?" I told him and I noticed he didn't write it down and even said, "well, didn't you say you were ready?" I ordered from the lunch menu: jumbo shrimp with mango and garlic sauce with sweet and sour soup. After waiting for 5 minutes, our soups came out then our food. Boy, did the food looked sloppy and unappetizing. The soup was digusting: it lacked so much flavor, I couldn't even finish it. The shrimp was bland and wasn't marinated - it tasted like ocean water instead. The whole meal tasted more microwaved and a week old - it wasn't fresh, especially the fried rice. It was awful. Too saucy and salty with the garlic sauce - brown messy slop. Our waiter never refilled our waters, he checked on us once, and he didn't even want to give us our checks. We had to hunt for him to give us our checks and when we ready for him to put up our money, he was no where to be found again. Awful service and Chinese food! read more

Food- Quality is decent. Flavor is good. Eggplant chicken, kungpao and duck with pepper are my favorite. Hospitality- More than once the the front employees either take your order wrong or dont put it in and causing a long wait. This time the cashier with thin glasses ( wish they had name tags) should work on being friendly, seems like she was more interested in collecting my payment while complaining about somebody or something to the other co worker, all i got was a total to pay from her. We picked up lunch to go due to covid-19 restrictions last weekend. we ordered a couple dishes and found out it was just fine. We had to switch the soup because we got flower soup instead of hot and sour. The young lady that helped us was super super cheerful and a replacement was filled more completely then before! So sad to say this is the last time I'll eat here. I've always had great food but today I found a cockroach in my food. I'm so disgusted and grateful I separate my rice first and then put the beef and thai peppers on top or else I don't think I would have seen it I call to immediately get a refund and the manager insisted on my driving all the way back to show their cook for me to get my refund. And I'm fine with that as long as they reimburse me in gas which of course they wouldn't do. So here inconveniently going back to return the food and simply get the refund. read more

Whenever my coworkers and I are in the mood for Chinese, 888 Bistro is our go-to place for delivery to the office. I haven't had a bad dish here; although, I don't veer too far away from the usual Chinese choices which are General Tso's Chicken, Sesame chicken, egg rolls and shrimp fried rice. I'm a basic Chinese food eating woman, lol. My coworkers, however, rave over several other dishes here besides what I usually order. The delivery is always faster than their estimated arrival time and the food is always hot, I mean really hot and fresh. I think the delivery workers drive ambulances or something to get orders out. I was disappointed in the food quality; I ordered Orange Beef and I had to ask the waitress if my order was correct when it arrived. It did not resemble any orange beef I have had before. I've eaten here the last two times I've visited Houston and it's become one of my solid lunch spots for Szechuan food. The restaurant is huge, the menu options are solid, and the food has not disappointed me so far. They have many lunch specials, but these are the usual suspects like General Tso's and what not. If you're looking for more of the authentic stuff, you'll probably need to look at the other menu with Chinese on it. Also, if anyone is complaining about how greasy the food is... let me break it to you - Szechuan food is ALWAYS greasy. The atmosphere is fine here - spacious and air conditioned. Service has been decent the two times I've visited. The prices here are pretty reasonable (everything we ordered was under $13) and the portion sizes are actually very, very generous. My favorite dish here is the ox tongue and tripe dish (fu qi fei pian) - I'm very picky about this dish as it's one of my favorite Chinese appetizers of all time and not every restaurant does it the way I like it. However, this unassuming suburban Szechuan restaurant does it exactly right and you get a large portion of it too! I could eat this by itself on a daily basis. Yum. My other favorite entree dish here is the stir-fried intestines in a hot and spicy sauce. Of course not everyone likes intestines, but if you do, this dish is your baby. Delicious - we killed it. The string beans are also a solid choice for a vegetable - lighty charred. I've had a few other things that were good as well, but the above 3 are definitely the most memorable.
