I recently visited this restaurant and unfortunately had a disappointing experience, mainly due to the service. When our server first came to the table, there was no greeting or welcome. She immediately asked what we wanted in a rude tone, which set an uncomfortable atmosphere from the start. There was a sign on the table advertising a "free appetizer" if you take a photo and tag the restaurant on social media. I followed the instructions exactly as stated, but when I mentioned it, the server initially refused to honor the promotion. After I pointed out the sign, she appeared upset and walked away. I saw she went to speak to another employee and cracked a smiled and looked over. She later returned and offered a small discount instead. The issue wasn't about the money or the discount, it was the principle. The promotion was clearly advertised, and I simply followed the restaurant's own policy. It was disappointing to feel like the restaurant was reluctant to honor something they were actively promoting. Stuck with the Dan Dan noodles and the biang biang noodles which were both delicious. First time I came here was not memorable. I came back recently, while a visit to Trendy Dumpling was still fresh in my mind. Based on their logo and their printed drink menu being identical, they could be affiliated with each other, but I didn't find anything definitive. However, between the two, I would definitely pick Trendy over Hi Trendy. I had the ginger honey tea--it was a bit weak in flavor no matter how long it sat. I had the biang biang noodles and they were good and filling and had a nice chew. The egg rolls were decent. Our service was spotty even though the place wasn't packed on a Sunday for lunch. I have to say, prior to visiting Hi Trendy Dumping I was a little skeptical because the Yelp Review rating was too high for me to consider it an authentic place, also the menu is entirely in English, which added another factor for uncertainty. However, I was really impressed with the bright flavors we returned to the place for the second time in 10 days! Food came very quickly and we had green beans again, which is a must have! Amazing Spicy Fish had that bright Sichuan peppercorn and dry red chili flavors. I liked it although I wish it had a little less batter. So I think next time I'll order the very delicious Spicy Boiled Fish again instead. My husband opted for General Tso's tofu again since he really enjoyed it last time. The restaurant is clean, spacious, and parking is super easy. Service is prompt and friendly. I read on their website that their wait staff pool their tips together so customers are encouraged to ask help from any of the wait staff, and I think that's a great concept! She had a weird dark energy around me. I found myself going out of my way to be nice to her so she could stop acting odd and what I can discern was judgmental of me. I tried offering my light and kindness to her darkness. I tried to make her feel comfortable. It did not work. And I shouldn't have had to do that on my own birthday. On my last visit I had the vegetarian chili oil dumplings, and they were a bit one note. While you could easily make this at home, it's not a bad dish here. The pan fried bao was probably our favorite with a nice crispy texture but soft on the inside with the pork filling. The taiwanese fried noodle is the vermicelli stir-fried with shrimp, chicken, beef, trimmings, and a soy-sauce base. It's quite a portion and decent flavor but nothing that jumps out. The beef noodle soup ordered was pretty good with a hearty broth mixed with a little chili oil. I went with the thick noodles for that and I'm glad I did. The beef was tender and intensified the broth. While it's not the best beef noodle soup I've had, I enjoyed it and would get it again next time I'm here.
