I'm familiar with the Dough Zone chain as I'm from Seattle where the company originally started. It used to be good as a budget Din Tai Fung, but as the years passed it's now come across as slightly below average in quality. This location didn't change my mind. Flavors didn't stand out, dumplings you could tell aren't made to order, the chive cakes were scantily filled and the minced filling produced a pre chewed texture I wasn't fond of, and the spicy beef pancake roll was hardly spicy. You do all the ordering through a QR code that links to the menu so human service interaction is pretty minimal.

Tonight is my second time coming here, but for some reason my review is gone! Not sure why... but here we go again, another review. There's a good bit of parking in the area, which is good to me because I just hate places that don't have little to no parking! The kitchen is pretty open, but it can see who's cooking and what they are cooking. I feel that the prices are reasonable in a way, but honestly I think the should have given me a bit more for it almost being 7 dollars. I do feel like it's not over priced like a lot of Houston places are, but hey I guess. I ordered the..... egg fried rice which to me had no taste... and was dry, the rice was also hard ugh. Bao Mehhh, it was super juicy inside. But not really much of a taste. Noodles were okay. But kinda tasteless as well. I hate that I had this experience.. Overall I wouldn't go back. The 3 stars is for the speedy service and how nice they were and how clean the place was..

We got the Dan dan noodles, the spicy mala and vegetarian mala noodles. Everything was super salty and the portions were small, but the prices were pretty cheap. I also got soup dumplings which were a little cold but decently flavored. There was plenty of seating and parking though, so it could be a good option for large parties.

Sept 8, 2025 Came in from Galveston to meet family/friends Dan Dan noodles, potstickers both beef and shrimp/crab, soup dumplings, green onion pancake, Taro milk tea and cucumber salad. Everything was delicious

Not gonna lie, the food was great. Here's my beef: I was so excited to come here for Houston Restaurant Weeks 2025. They had an awesome menu, and they were offering it and open on Labor Day, which a lot of others were not. We planned our day around this and passed up other great Houston restaurants to come here. When we arrived they simply told us "they don't have it" when we asked for the HRW option. I asked why, and they said they didn't know. We almost left, but at that point it was almost 8 pm on a holiday and most other places would be closed. So we stayed and ordered off the regular menu. We tried and shared a lot of items, and honestly all of them were pretty great. The best thing we had were the pork soup dumplings (far superior to the chicken we also tried). I will probably be back because the food was so good, but overall I am disappointed in missing out on their HRW that was advertised.

Do NOT come here. If you want a dose of plastic with your food, then this is the place. Also NOT AUTHENTIC!!!! You have been warned!!! Dan dan noodles: what is this monstrosity? my ancestors are crying and rolling in their graves. Where is the minced pork? Where is the bok choy? Where are the pickled vegetables? Peanuts??? AND the noodles are all clumpy??? This tasted like straight up spice - no salt no spices no soy sauce no vinegar no peppercorns no nothing. I really didn't know what i was even eating. Thank god they served it in a small bowl so ppl can get it over quickly. Literally look at the picture - it's giving: let me boil some ramen noodles and throw an itty bit of scallions to give it some color. Pork soup dumplings: broth is actually nice but everything else is not. The skin is not right - it's too thick and not delicate. Oh and it came with a nice piece of plastic too. Yum!! Instead of coming here, you can drive an extra 10 minutes to costco and get some dumplings and whip em up yourself.

I tried the cucumber, pork wontons in chili oil, beef noodles, and xiao long bao. I thought the xiao long bao were good, flavorful, and there was a good amount of soup in them. Keep in mind that all the dishes are small, and meant for sharing. The style of restaurant is not fast casual but you also don't have 1 waiter, you place an order by marking a paper menu (dim sum style) and someone will bring it out to you.

Having visited their new location in the Galleria area, I was pleased to see a midtown location closer to work for a weekday lunch option. The interior was less fancy than the Galleria branch and it was extremely empty. The staff weren't very interactive at all or observant so it took a while to order. You get handed a menu, mark what you want, and hand it in. We ordered a few of what should be heavy hitters of street food; XLB, chili cucumbers, gyoza, scallion pancakes, jian bing, beef rolls etc. Keep in mind that it's a lot of carbs and dough here and the flavors can get a bit single noted. The jian bing and beef pancake rolls were probably the best items here (4/5). The XLB did not taste fresh; definitely was frozen for a while and reheated quickly as you can tell from the texture of the dough and the filling didn't taste great (1/5). The wontons and Dan Dan noodles were decent. Overall, the overall dining experience is lacking compared to their other location, which I would recommend.

Very good chain restaurant, and I would say all of dishes I tried were above average and at fair prices; just wasn't blown away by anything in particular, but I would definitely come back for a quick meal!

Finally made it to Dough Zone for a weekend lunch date. Dough Zone has been on my radar since it hit the Houston food scene a few years ago. It's a west coast chain that has expanded into the Houston area with plans to grow more around the US. There's another popular restaurant that I enjoy when I visit the west coast, but this is more like the cheaper version of that. That's not necessarily a bad thing. This location is in Midtown. It's sits on the corner of a shopping strip. During the day, parking shouldn't be an issue, but I assume during peak busy hours you may have some issues. Customer service was just ok. It was straight business without any warmth. I had to ask specific questions to learn more about their menu. The space inside is large and modern looking and seems like a place where they can accommodate larger groups. When you are seated, they set down a sheet with their menu items. You then pick your items and then they bring it out. There is a QR code on the table with that pulls up the menu as well with pictures to help you decide. We didn't hit all the categories since it was just two of us, but I think we got the essentials. One of their main draws is the Xiao Long Bao which are soup dumplings. I've had these exceptional ones elsewhere so the bar was set high. I won't say these were the best I ever had, but they were very good. The dough was the perfect thickness, not too doughy, and held it's integrity with the soupy filling. The broth and pork inside was delicious. One of their own signature dishes is the Q-Bao which are steamed, then pan fried. It's not a typical preparation but I liked the soft bun with the crispy bottom. The filling in this was really good too. We ordered Dan Dan Noodles to get some noods into the equation. Solid, but not the best I've ever had. We went heavy on the veg options with the Kale Salad with Sesame Dressing and Sweet and Sour Cucumbers. Both were very light and refreshing. The cucumbers were one long piece which made it slightly difficult to eat, but we managed. The kale salad was very good. I washed my food down with some tea, but they also have beer, soda, and boba. They have quite a few options on the menu, but I do wish they had some more just meat options. Overall, I really enjoyed Dough Zone. The soup dumplings were one of the better ones I have had in Houston. I would definitely come back or check out their other locations.

We love the food at dough zone. It's fun that it's a lot of small plates to share (or eat on your own!) with lots of sauces and other things to eat with your dumplings/noodles/other treat. There are a lot of different options for different palates including vegetarian. The milk teas are also tasty. The service could be better so we don't have to chase down the servers. All in all we have come a few times and enjoyed it.

Service was quick and efficient. Overall wasn't blown away by any of the dishes but an affordable quick bite. We got: - cucumber salad: very refreshing but very small portions - spicy ma la noodles: nothing special, wouldn't get this again - chicken xiao long bao: juicy and fresh - pan friend pork buns: Very hot and okay flavor but tasted like something we could get frozen

Came here for the first time and will add this into my list for affordable eat within the loop. It's located in midtown in a small shopping strip, so parking is shared with the other stores and can fill up pretty quick. I had to drive around a few times to get a spot in the parking lot, but there's also street parking near by if you don't mind a short walk. The interior is clean and simple, more importantly it feels clean. We came with a few friends so we were able to try a lot of their dishes. I was a bit late and all the dishes were already on the table when I got there, so they are pretty quick. Seems like a spot where they want you in and out quickly. I'll order it again- Dan Dan noodle, Chili wontons, pork soup dumplings, cold noodle with sesame dressing, romaine salad, pan fried dumplings Decent but will skip next time- Zhajangmian, green onion pancakes, and the crab soup dumplings

On my most recent visit we ordered mapo tofu with pork intestines off the specials menu - a hybrid of two of my favorite Sichuan-style dishes. The blend of bouncy, savory morsels amidst tender, saucy tofu was at once revolutionary and so obvious; why hadn't I yet seen this at any other restaurant? And sure, innards may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's important for you to know that none of my past orders from the 50+ item menu have ever failed me, whether enjoyed in the restaurant or at home. Maybe you'd prefer the aromatic, classic, perfectly balanced three-cup chicken? Or the sweet-skinned duck, glazed so delicately that specks of sugar crystal threaten to jump off onto the plate as you pick up a juicy slice with your chopsticks? And if you're vegetarian, might you consider the punchy garlic eggplant or the wok-kissed string beans? I could go on. Do yourself a favor and come see for yourself, though I'd recommend parallel parking on the neighborhood streets behind the restaurant rather than the rocky parking lot, to save you some trouble. Bring friends and chow down family style - you'll need help covering as much of the menu as you can, but you'll definitely have to come back to try everything.

We came with a group of 18 people, and the bill ended up being around $972. Unfortunately, most of the dishes were more impressive visually than flavor-wise. The colorful green fried rice looked unique, but honestly just tasted like regular fried rice. The green beans were overcooked, so they lost the crunch and sweetness that usually make that dish enjoyable. The green curry was extremely spicy, but outside of the heat, it wasn't very memorable. The shaking beef dish looked amazing presentation-wise, but the sauce was too sweet for a savory dish, and the crispy rice pairing just didn't work well for me. I initially thought the duck dish was Peking duck, but it was actually the Jasmine Tea Smoked Duck. Even so, everyone at my table agreed we still preferred the traditional Peking duck style. The duck itself lacked flavor for us, and the skin was soft instead of having the crisp texture we were hoping for. The only dishes I genuinely enjoyed were the soup dumplings, cucumber salad, and fried dumplings. Most of the other dishes at the table were barely touched. If you're looking for colorful, aesthetically pleasing food and great presentation, you may enjoy this place. But if flavor is your main priority, this spot just wasn't for me personally.

Located inside of the 99 Ranch Market (#1) along Mason, it had so much potential but struggled with foot traffic. As a result, it closed for good several weeks ago. With only a handful of tables, the setup was casual and completely unpretentious. The restaurant transitioned from over-the-counter ordering to a self service kiosk, a practice that has become commonplace amongst many Asian eateries. Prices were reasonable for the area, with plenty of options under $10. The menu featured a number of classics true to Shanghainese cuisine, including their stir fried udon (上海粗炒麵), scallion oil noodles (葱油拌面), min purse wontons (小馄饨), and even braised wheat gluten (烤麩). All of these items delivered in a big way, even their steamed dumplings (水餃) was silky and plump. Unfortunately two Shanghainese staples fell short: soup dumplings / XLB (小籠包) and pan fried buns / SJB (生煎包). The XLB was doughy, unstable, and the broth lacked depth. The SJB suffered from a similar doughy texture, with very little crisp at the bottom. These were not issues initially, but over time the decline in quality became noticeable. There is a part of me that hopes for a revival in a new location. While there is no shortage of soup dumplings in Houston, Shanghainese cuisine remains rare. ___________ (#1) 99 Ranch Market - Katy: https://www.yelp.com/biz/99-ranch-market-katy-2

Nice tender slices of beef. Pan fried dumplings: Really great texture... crispy on the bottom and soft everywhere else. The dumplings were juicy and very flavorful. Very sad that they closed... it was a super affordable hidden gem.

This little restaurant is just a wonderful, hole-in-the-wall kinda place! Authentic Chinese foods…read morethat I have never tried, or not even heard of, can be found here; for instance, "Pig nose with cucumber and garlic (appetizer #14)" sounds like bizarre and freaking people out, but it is delicious!! Seriously, I never knew pig nose were edible *face palm* Anyways, for the very first time I had the "pig nose" (pig snout), man oh man! I liked it! The pig snout has been slow-cooked so it is pretty tender yet chewable, and it tastes sorta like pork tongue or soft tendon; the cucumber adds a refreshing crisp and the garlic boosts the flavor! I DARE YOU to try this bizarre food! Lol My favorite appetizers and entrees here include, but are not limited to: 1) Shredded potatoes in chili oil (appetizer): a little spicy; loves the crispy texture of the shredded potatoes; tasty and interesting! 2) Sweet & Sour pork loin: i love almost everything sweet & sour so I may be a little biased on this one; however, not only me but also the boyfriend and his coworkers have said that it is delicious, so i'm sure this is a good one! 3) Shrimp w/ cabbage: flavorful, but kinda greasy as the shrimp and cabbage are soaked in oil. Don't be fooled by the orange-reddish colored oil though; this one is not spicy at all. 4) Pork kidneys stir-fried w/ cabbage: another one that sounds bizarre, maybe? oh well, the organ meat is thin-sliced and cooked just right so it is soft and crispy, rather than chewy and plastic-ky (as if overcooked). I would recommend this one to the organ-eaters *wink* 5) Egg scramble w/ Clams: eggs not overcooked; clams taste fresh. Just perfect! Prices are very reasonable (accepts credit cards); food portions are huge; service is prompt and friendly. Before I go, this place is BYOB!
