My feelings about this place are mixed. While the service here, based on my two to-go orders has been spectacular, the food runs the ratings gamut. The (pork) egg rolls here taste like they were rolled in-house, which is a huge deal for me, but they are small. I prefer egg rolls that are plump and stuffed to the gills. The boiled dumplings here are a no-go. They tasted more like an afterthought, and that could be because we have so many places around here that specialize in dumplings. And the crispy pork with garlic flavor, while decent, was paper thin. Indeed it was crispy, and it had garlic flavor. But the pork was barely there. On the flip side, the crispy eggplant is divine. We've ordered it twice, and both times we have been wowed over the consistency and garlicky flavor of the sauce. The hot & sour soup here is also good, though (as I usually do), I added chile oil. Finally, though this place boasts that it specializes in Sichuan, they also do a pretty good job with Shanghai soup dumplings. Further -- and I've eaten soup dumplings at dozens of spots between Houston and NYC -- Spicy Banda is the ONLY joint that has warned me that the soup dumplings aren't as good when they're ordered to-go. That's integrity, and it is much appreciated. As an aside, I knew what to expect with a to-go order of soup dumplings, and they tasted just fine. read more

Take-out Food was delicious. Red Oil Wontons were a hit at my house. House Fried was tasty, not oily white rice with a couple of scallions in it like some places. Great food if you want more authentic Chinese food. The type of Chinese food offered in the suburb is usually a syrup sweet mess called American Chinese food. Yuck!! This is the only place near me that doesn't offer that awful concoction called Chinese food. I got the Biang Biang noodle for dine in..just perfect al dente, chewy noodle with a light mildly spicy salty sauce and vegetable, 5 out of 5. It was so good I ordered it to go with beef protein. And then I couldn't stop and order curry chicken fried rice (3 out of 5, too dried) and peppercorn steak fish (4 out of 5, my fault when it had 2 hot pepper symbols it meant hot! Ordered the following: - three pepper chicken 8/10- solid flavor but the breading was not crispy it was also a bit too thick - dan dan noodles -0/10- had zero and I mean zero seasoning or flavor, would never order again. It was advertised as spicy but there wasn't any flavor let alone spice?? idk maybe they forgot the sauce but all I tasted was boiled noodles and sprinkles of grounded meat. Dandan noodles are supposed to be nutty and spicy but I tasted nothing probably my worst dish of the night - stir fried green beans 8/10- a bit oily but typical standard green beans, nice seasoning - red oil wontons 5/10- average but lacked depth probably would skip next time overall simply just an okay option but a bit pricy for what you're getting read more

Note that the Xinjiang and Belt Noodles are nearly identical, so avoid ordering them both. The Hotpot was very tasty and the Peppercorn Fish Slice, while on the spicier end, was extremely flavorful with a rich and balanced sauce. All their noodle dishes are very chewy (in the good way) and their hot and spicy fish was nice and crispy. The fried rice was not the best (a little watery and needs more time on the wok), but the Sizzling with Three Delicacies was excellent. Those are just a few of the dishes, but their wide variety of dishes that almost all succeed at making a delicious meal makes this restaurants menu a great one. Service- Service is very kind and down to earth. Both waiters that have served my table were extremely kind and knowledgeable about the wide menu. Ambiance- Very spacious and usually not too busy. The interior is nothing to praise, but allows the food to shine. Although the ambiance isn't anything extravagant, it still invites you in, with a kind staff guiding you through an incredible meal. My husband and I just went to Spicy Banda for dinner, we went around 8pm. The restaurant was empty, but I went for the good reviews. The place is big, and very clean. The waiter was very nice and polite. They have a variety of options on their menu, even house made noodles, which we couldn't let pass. We ordered steamed pork siu mai as an appetizer, it was so juicy, flavorful with sweet and salty sauce. Then we got the garlic Shrimp plate, it was a generous portion, perfect for sharing, came with an order of rice, you can have it white or fried, we ordered it fried and it was so simple yet delicious. The shrimp was not that garlicky, more on the sweet side, but not overly sweet. Then we got the Xinjiang hand pulled noodles, this particular dish was so appealing to the eye, the noodles were so thick, and so chewy, with a very nice flavor from the beef. We had read many good reviews on Facebook about this new spot and decided to check it out. Impressed that there is a Szechuan option in the Kemah/League City area! We came in on a Friday night and it was pretty busy. Decided to try the xiao long bao (soup dumplings), red oil wontons, half order of Peking duck, three flavor pepper chicken, orange chicken, and beef flat noodles. Everything was really good! The half order of Peking duck comes with two dishes - a bone-based soup and the sliced duck (choice of 5 baos or 10 pancakes to wrap it with). The three flavor pepper chicken is the classic spicy fried chicken bits that you'll find at most Szechuan restaurants - portion was huge and came in a cornucopia-looking basket, delicious. The orange chicken was nothing special, on par with others I've had, but the beef flat noodles was really flavorful! The only thing slightly lacking was the service. There were only three people working the front of the house, one of them being the owner. This left two people running around waiting and cleaning the tables, so it was a little slow finding someone if we needed a refill. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area or are just craving Szechuan food and don't feel like driving all the way to the inner city or Chinatown! read more

I was looking to replicate one of my favorite meals from the noodles restaurant inside Caesars Palace in Vegas...tomato and egg with hand pulled noodles. I was surprised to find it on the menu at the nearby Spicy Banda. We went on a Saturday night around 5pm. First time there. I was surprised again that we were the only ones in the restaurant at what should have been prime time. The service was very friendly and attentive. My husband ordered chicken lo mein. I had the tomato egg noodles. We shared an order of pork egg rolls. The egg rolls were good. Both our meals were pretty good but a little on the bland side. Could maybe use more salt. Oh my gosh... this place is so underrated! My dad and I came here on a Tuesday night and it was super chill. The service was great and everyone was very kind. We started with the hot and sour soup and it was delicious. Be careful though, the small is a large portion in my opinion, which is great. Next we ordered pork soup bao, and that took about 25 minutes to come out so I would order that first, but our server warns us that it would take awhile. Next, I ordered their Mongolian beef and wow... it was outstanding! It came with grilled onions that were so tasty and I couldn't stop eating! My dad order the house fried rice and that was good too! My husband and I live very close by and were intrigued by the recent change in name and management of what used to be Szechuan Garden. We were not regulars to Szechuan Garden, but now we may be regulars of Spicy Panda. I like all the Christmas decorations inside the restaurant, as well as the big Chinese paintings of animals like goldfish, which signify good fortune. You can tell this place is more "authentic" because all the employees are Chinese and speak multiple dialects of Chinese. There was even a table of Chinese kids watching TV and on their phones, and not eating--obviously related to the owners or employees in one way or another. The menu includes a good variety of Chinese-American dishes and "authentic" Chinese dishes. We ordered 1/2 a Peking duck, boiled fish in hot sauce, and Kung pao chicken. Like at most Chinese restaurants that serve Peking duck, Spicy Panda uses the duck bones to make a bowl of duck broth soup. The soup here is clean, creamy, and hearty. For a Friday evening, service was pretty quick. The fish came out first with two bowls of rice. We thought it tasted mild at first but then the peppercorns kicked in. Their version of the boiled fish is pretty good; it reminded me of flavors I've had in Taiwanese cuisine. The duck and Kung pao chicken soon followed. The duck portion appeared small to me, but it's actually quite filling. I like the very thin wraps this restaurant uses, rather than the sweet baos (buns) that a lot of other restaurants serve with Peking duck. They give you a good amount of sliced green onions and cucumbers to eat with the duck; their plum sauce is a bit strong for my taste, though. The Kung pao chicken was surprisingly good. They give you a lot of peanuts in this dish, and the sauce is different from the sauce I've had in other Kung pao chicken versions. Overall, I liked the food here very much. Service was pretty strong overall. It seemed like they had one server for the whole restaurant, but the owner and who I assume to be his wife also helped with serving. We definitely got more attention towards the beginning of the meal rather than later. Also, we had to flag someone down to give us chopsticks--they really should just provide chopsticks without prompting, as most people know how to use them. My last quibble with the service is the rice issue. I hate it when Asian restaurants are stingy with their rice. I understand that one order of XYZ dish is served with one serving of rice. But is it really necessary to bring out three bowls of rice for my husband and me to share between the two of us? Why can't you just bring out a communal bowl of rice for us to serve between the two of us. We're both clearly Asian, give us chopsticks. Give us rice. Lastly, the bathrooms are spacious and clean. Oh, the music is just Mix 96.5, which I thought was very distracting. At least set it to Sunny 99.1, which is airing holiday favorites. Overall, a surprisingly good dining experience. I really, really like this place and its not just bc of their emoji-cute panda logo. The Sichuan cuisine here is really authentic and outright flavorful -- it's truly a gem of a Chinese restaurant. Ghost the General and moo shu: Dan dan noodles, double cooked pork, and three pepper chicken are the real heavy hitters here. Hubby had chicken dry hot pot also delicious .. they bring it in a clay pot with a fire under the pot.. also a delicious entree.. something new I've never seen.. Living in the Galveston Bay Area as long as I have, you get used to seeing good and bad restaurants come and go. You don't miss the bad ones, but the good ones you remember for a long time. The Bay Area has always been a tough market to crack for most restaurants. So when a new restaurant opens up, I always try it, my family has always been that way. Notably, in1975, when a new restaurant opened up in Seabrook, where Bonus Burger used to be, we tried it out. It lasted a long time, almost got taken out by Hurricane Ike, rebuilt and then moved. I am talking about Tookies. Spicy Banda has not been around long. My wife and I have eaten there three times now and really like it. Like my family did with Tookies back in 1975, my wife and I decided to try Spicy Banda one Saturday to see if it was better than the restaurant that was there before that did not make it. Every time we have gone there, we have been the only people there and that is really a shame, because this place is good. Hunan Star used to be our go to Chinese food restaurant, but Spicy Banda has beat them out as our favorite. All the food we have had there has been better than any other Chinese place we have eaten at (and we eat at a lot of them all over Houston and the Bay Area. Spicy Banda has the best hot and sour soup I have ever had. Then again everything we have had there is delicious. As I told they guy who was there yesterday, I do not know what kind of sorcery goes on in their kitchen, but what they do back there is Magic. The food is always fresh, hot and delicious. Here is my problem; I want this place to make it and and thrive, like Tookies did. And this place could. The food is great, the servers we have had have been really nice and the cooks in the kitchen use their powers of cooking for good and not evil. So, before you pick up the phone to call your usual Chinese restaurant, look up this place and get food here. It is worth the trip, price and time. read more

This is an update to my last review. We have always enjoyed eating here even under the past owner. However, our visit today exceeded our past experiences. We had hot and sour soup that was just as favorable but seemed a little lighter and was great. The egg rolls had more pork and less cabbage than usual ( I ate the whole roll which is rare). We shared the teriyaki shrimp bento. The shrimp were large and the sauce was yummy. The service was also prompt and pleasant. Food was really good. Would probably recommend eating the food at the restaurant or immediately after you do a pick up to get the real authenticity of the dishes. I might have just made that phrase up but the pan fried beef buns were really good, especially with the dipping sauce it came with. The stir fry beef with flat rice noodle was super good and definitely something you should eat hot off the wok. The beef was super tender. The duck wasn't my favorite, it was a little dry and not as crispy skinned as I would like but it definitely wasn't terrible. I love how it comes with a big bowl of duck bone soup. The pancakes that it comes with are super thin and tasty. Definitely make sure to add the hoisin, julienned scallion and cucumber in your little duck wrap. The food was so delicious. I went there an hour before closing so I think they let most of their weight staff go home, but the girl that took care of me did a really good job. But you have to be careful. I ordered a spicy dish and it was so so spicy that a normal person could never eat it. it was extremely delicious but extra spicy. it was fried fish above some liquid sauce that had mango and pineapple in it and jalapeños, but it was off the charts delicious and hot. The pricing is not too expensive.. I'm planning on going back there again. read more

My father and I came here for Christmas dinner. The place had one guy running the front by himself and 2 cooks. Even with the phone ringing off the hook and people pouring in and out, we still had the most amazing time. Our server seated us and let us know there'd be a wait so we had a couple bottles of their Sparkling Sake while we waited. Our food didn't take very long at all. For apps we had the Dan Dan Noodles and Pork Bao Soup Dumplings. Both were incredible. My dad got to eat his ultimate favorite food, Peking duck and they did not disappoint the fickle man. I had the blood sausage, pork intestine and beef tripe with veg and it was incredible! I love restaurants trusting that consumers want to try the real food of their culture and the flavor was amazing. This is legitimately mine and my fathers new favorite restaurant and we had the very best experience provided even though they were as busy as they were. That's says a lot.
