Recommendation from my younger brother so I had to give them a try. Staff and owner were very friendly, they were busy but got us seated almost immediately. Waitress took our order and food came out shortly after. The pho in my opinion was really good but the only thing is they did not offer the rare beef "thịt tái" but it's okay. The service was great! I got the Phở Đặc Biệt which is my go to order for any pho place. The vegetables were quite fresh and I liked the meat portion. The broth was decent as well. The only issue I had was with the rice noodle. It was probably cooked a bit too long beforehand because when I got my bowl, it started to get very soggy. We ordered carry out and enjoyed the large portion sizes and felt they were at a good price. I liked the flavor of the sesame chicken but the chicken pieces themselves could be a bit more tender. Pho Yen has updated their interior and it's gorgeous! Their menu also has been updated. The standby items are still there but you can now find Bahn Mi sandwiches - and they are great. Great place for pho in friendswood! It's hard to find a good viet restaurant in the area but glad we found this one. They have a great variety of food..it's not only pho! The portion sizes are large and they come in a really unique bowl. The broth was flavorful and authentic. They give you a generous portion of meat. We also ordered the egg rolls and were surprised when they came out because they were gigantic. The egg rolls also came with lettuce which was good cause you can turn your egg roll into a healthy spring egg roll :). Pricing is a tad higher than most we have been to.. We ordered the eggrolls, very good. I ordered a vermicelli bowl with beef. I had asked if i got the version with an eggroll if they could substitute wontons as Id already ordered the 3 pc eggroll appetizer. No substitutions. He talked me into the version with no eggroll for $2 less. Doesn't seem like a customer friendly approach and shorts them $2 in potential profit to boot! His demeanor was abrupt although when two asian men came in he appeared to be falling over himself to accommodate them. Just my opinion. My brother unfortunately ordered the lemon chicken. I didnt read reviews until the next day but this has been a recurring theme and they have not addressed it. The chicken comes out gray looking. Its smells ok and didnt taste spoiled but it looks bad and has zero flavor. Had to wonder if this is the new fake chicken people talk about. Even dark meat selections have some hint of pink hue but not grey and dark grey in some cases. My brother couldnt eat it. He had asked for fried rice they gave him steamed. We got it switched out but it was bland and not noteworthy. The dish was just underwhelming if not unappetizing. My vermicelli was good and filling. The eggroll filling was not the traditional filling and the fish sauce (Nước Mắm) was. straight out of the bottle from the store - no preparation. Whaaaaat happened here? Identity crisis? How does a Vietnamese restaurant not serve......pork? What happened? Did the owners give up pork, and expect customers to do the same? Are they trying to re-engineer our palettes to give up ...... pork? We were told there were issues, complaints from customers of undercooked pork, so they removed pork from the menu. Whaaaaat? We ordered pad Thai that had little flavoring. Sp8cy beef was I edi le, and left to die a sad death. We ordered spicy chicken and it was bland. The unsweet tea was good. I don't know what happened to this place but they will lose true Vietnamese patrons. The food is horrible.. Needless to say, we won't be back. ETA: we were told the kitchen precooks all the protein, so that when you order a dish, it is either cooked a 2nd time, or already cooked. It's why all our dishes had chewy, unedited chicken and beef pieces. I seriously don't understand how customers are giving this place such high reviews. read more

We use to love this place. We went yesterday and we had 2 wonton soups, kids chicken nuggets, egg rolls and house fried rice. We spent over $80. The soup and Vietnamese egg rolls were good. Chicken nuggets were ok but 2 fried so hard our daughter couldn't even bite it. We took the fried rice home for my husbands work lunch the next day. Putting his rice in his container its just brown rice no peas or carrots or onions just rice, chunks of chicken and beef and 3 tiny shrimp. This use to he our favorite place to go for Vietnamese food. We wont be back! Food is not the same. We asked for packets of sauces for fried rice and got one small soy sauce. read more
