Came here for my mom's 60th birthday celebration with a group of 11 individuals. The interior was beautiful, and we were seated immediately after using the valet parking. I will say that the service was very good. They were patient with our communication, indecision, and even helped specifically make menu items for certain dietary restrictions (no onion and garlic). The prices, especially for the quantity are exorbitant. They also brought out a small dessert to share for the birthday. Overall, everything tasted okay. It was not a memorable meal at all tastewise, so I would not rush back here again. However, I was not particularly disappointed in any dish either. My family does not often go to fine dining restaurants, so this was more for the experience than anything, and that part did live up to the standards. The papadum nachos were fun and a good appetizer. The palak chaat was also good, but could have used some more chutney to make it less dry. Portions for the goat cheese salad were really small and underwhelming. Most of the curries were again, just okay. The biryani and suprisingly, the bhindi, were my most favorite dishes, and the naan was warm and soft. This rating and review is solely on the afternoon tea. As far as my thoughts on the meals/restaurant food, I still stand by my previous review. Eventhough the Chai was so bad last time that I figured I wouldn't even come back for afternoon tea, we came back for afternoon tea. But it really was only bc we had credits to use from the Chase credit card deal and this was one of the covered places. The chai did not taste like soap this time, thankfully. It was actually very close to how my parents make it. So I liked it and had like 3 cups of it. The food was pretty good except for dessert. But even that didn't bother me too much just bc by that point I was stuffed and I add sugar to my chai. I got the gluten free afternoon tea. It was good mostly. The scone was really good. The cucumber sandwich was very bland and the curried crab was fishy and bland. The deviled egg was too mustard-y. And the desserts were all bad, maybe frozen and just not good tasting (there were 3 small ones). We got there at 1:15 and we were seated in the back, pretty far from the harpist. Used my Chase Sapphire Reserve credit to dine and I would definitely use the credit here again. For a business dinner you can expense or a date you're trying to impress this is a great choice. Service was attentive, large well decorated dining areas. Food was solid and large variety of vegetarian items, so everyone can find something they like. Portions were good. So why wouldn't I pay full price? Because none of the dishes were memorable or crave worthy. The prices are a little bit high because they have to pay for the beautiful ambiance and all the attentive staff, plus rent isn't cheap. So I understand why it's a little high. Entree prices aren't outrageous, but like any fine dining, everything's à la carte, so the prices add up. Taste wise I prefer Aga's. If you're venturing for something high-quality and with a large variety of different choices, rather than the same items every Indian place has, this is a solid choice. Quality wise everything was outstanding and used great meats. Chicken tandoori was cooked perfectly and great portion. Loved that they had a variety of breads and zero proof alcohol. I've been wanting to try Kiran's for a while and the Chase Sapphire Reserve dining program finally gave me the excuse to go and do so. Decor is impressive and luxurious; there is a business casual dress code to be aware of before you arrive. Service was good but on the slower end. Food was lovely and flavorful, but I've had more enjoyable Indian food at lower price points, ambiance aside. Overall, the atmosphere wowed me more than the food. Foie gras, lamb leg vindaloo, and navrattan korma were tasty, though I wish there was a little more paneer in my korma. Lasooni (garlic naan) had excellent garlic flavor but is a little on the crispier end, just not my personal preference. Also had to try Kiran's bread (goat cheese and rosemary) which was great in small quantities, but the flavor overpowered the rest of the meal for me with more than one piece. I've only ever ordered takeout from this place as I was initially recommended this place by a patient who said it was the most authentic Indian food! Well he is right! This restaurant prepares the food with such high quality and ingredients. I usually get the channa masal with rice and garlic naan. The exquisitely flavors dont compare to any other Indian restaurant I've ever tried! I will say it's on the expensive side but we'll worth the price! My next plan is to visit in person and get the full experience! Well I visited in person for take out looool. The restaurant is beautiful and tastefully decorated. The parking can be difficult as it's limited but valet is available. Our server was very kind and patient. The food ranged from street eats to flavorful curries. We enjoyed each dish. The Delhi chaat incides alloo (potato) tiki which can be too much of a filler. Naanza was definitely the star of the show. Need to ask specifically for a naanza menu, they're not on the regular menu. Loved the butter chicken and garlic naan as well. I will say our server wasn't exactly fast and I felt like I had to prod her multiple times to get my tea refilled. That's an area they could improve upon. After hearing so many positive reviews from friends, my sister, and my mom, we decided to try this place for dinner. Our waiter was incredibly friendly and helpful, and they even gave us complimentary dessert at the end of the meal for my sister's birthday, which was a thoughtful touch. The atmosphere is elegant and formal, and that upscale feel clearly carries through to the presentation of the food. To start, we ordered the Delhi Chaat, which ended up being my mom's favorite dish of the night. It was a beautiful combination of flavors and textures. The yogurt mint and tamarind chutneys added creaminess with a bright acidic bite, while the crunchy masala cashews contrasted nicely with the soft potatoes. It was a smart, well balanced dish and a great way to begin the meal. For our mains, we shared the Tandoori Chicken with Daal Makhni, the Rogan Josh with lamb leg, and the Paneer Karahi. My personal favorite was the Rogan Josh because the lamb was incredibly tender and the curry was very flavorful. That said, I did not feel the price quite justified the dish, as I think similar quality could be found at more casual restaurants for much less. The same went for the other entrees. While the chicken was tender, I have had juicier versions elsewhere. Although the paneer itself may have been the best I have ever had, the surrounding peppers, onions, and tomatoes overshadowed it enough that it felt like something I could easily order at another restaurant. We did, however, really enjoy Kiran's bread. It was fluffy and soft and practically melted in your mouth with the goat cheese, which added a rich creaminess. I personally think it could have used a bit more rosemary to cut through the richness, but it was delicious regardless. For dessert, we ordered the Gulab Jamun and the Chocolate Samosas with Chai Ice Cream, and we were also given the Hazelnut and Spiced Chocolate Cake on the house. Unfortunately, none of these stood out. The gulab jamun was not soaked enough in saffron syrup for my taste and ended up being dry. The chocolate samosas were especially disappointing, as they were simply chocolate wrapped in fried egg roll skins. The cake was also fairly forgettable. I would strongly recommend saving your money and skipping dessert here. Overall, this restaurant delivers excellent service and an elegant atmosphere, along with some well executed starters and bread. However, the high prices and uneven execution of the main dishes and desserts make it hard to fully recommend. While it was a pleasant evening, I am not sure it is a place I would rush back to given the strong competition in Houston's Indian dining scene. read more

The food was very good and it was a great environment. Service in terms of wait staff was fine, not great but fine. With the exception of the kind gentleman that packed our left-over items. He did a great job and you could tell it was done with care. Our complaint was with seating time. If they won't hold your reservation if you're 15 mins late, they should provide a cocktail on the house for not seating you 20+ mins after your reservation time. We had a 6:15 dinner reservation and were told our table wasn't ready when we checked in around 6:10. No problem at that point and they showed us to the bar to have a seat. We were still sitting at the bar waiting at 6:45 with no one updating us or checking in on us except the bartender. I finally went to the hostess station to ask and lo and behold, now our table was ready. No apology, no explanation, no offer of any kind of comp... nothing. Updating this review to add my thoughts on their high tea. Kiran's high tea is a unique experience, perfect for a girl's get together. Call in advance for reservations as they only have afternoon tea on certain days of the week. They have vegetarian options and can customize veg v. non-veg for your group. The experience is pricey but there was a nice variety of items and it was a cute way to spend the afternoon. When we visited they were offering two types of chai (masala and almond ameretto biscotti). The first course was samosa, second was a mix of sandwiches (four unique 1/2 sandwiches) and last was dessert. There was a Kiran's spin to all the dishes with a unique sauce for the samosa and a nice variety of veggie / chutneys for the sandwiches. It was enough food to fill me for lunch with to-go boxes for the desserts. You can also add alcohol to your experience for an extra cost. read more

This is a spot we've been to over the years and it's always been great though it feels like certain elements just aren't what they used to be, which I'll expand on. First, they used to validate parking and they do not now, which is a bummer considering other spots do. This means you're either valet parking or paying to self park in the garage. There is street parking around Levy Park, but it's very hit and miss so don't count on this. If you're in a group, ride together or take a ride share service to save some of the hassle. Upon entry you'll be greeted immediately. We've never had to wait with a reservation, which is great considering how busy it seems to stay most weekend nights. The decor is nice and well appointed, it's definitely an establishment you can come for a special occasion. Food & Drink - 4.5* The food is great, always has been. I've never had anything that I felt wasn't authentic or fresh. On our most recent visit we elected to keep it to some staples. The Delhi Chaat, which I think is just fantastic. It has the right balance of sweet, heat, and crunch. The chicken vindaloo has a nice punch while not being overbearing and the chicken tikka masala is good. Though, on this visit the chicken was a bit dry in the tikka masala. On past visits we've had some drinks, but elected not to on this visit. Service - 3.5* / 1* ~2.25* Here's where I'm going to segregate what was witnessed and what was experienced. Our waitress was very lovely, she was willing to make recommendations if you have any dietary restrictions and it was clear she knew the menu well. On the other hand, it felt as though she was upselling a bit much. There was clear disappointment when we didn't order cocktails, wine, multiple appetizers, or dessert. On a plus side, the staff is very attentive to ensuring your water is refilled frequently, which is always welcome in my book. I drink a lot of water! As for service times, it was a bit extended for each course, which is the biggest knock on the first score given above. We were there a little shy of two hours and we only had an appetizer and a main. We were too full for dessert nor did we want to wait any longer. Now, for the other score and further context. As we sat there waiting between our first and second course, we couldn't help but look at the decor and all of the personnel hustling and bustling. Not too far from our table we watched the hostess sit a family of four. They sat there for probably a good 15 minutes or so and it was clear they were debating leaving. Maybe it was the extended service time, maybe it was the pricing. More on that later. Whatever the case, they eventually got up and left. This was after waters and what not had been served. The table was bussed but not in anyway that is acceptable in the service industry. The silverware was not cleared (after the patrons, particularly the children, touched them though they didn't "use" them). The linen was not changed, some napkins were even reset if they didn't look "used." As someone who came up in the service industry, and in a fine dining establishment -- the table is cleared, in full. Silverware, glasses, napkins, everything. The only thing I saw cleared was one, maybe two napkins and the glasses since they had been poured. The silverware not being cleared was particularly off-putting and is simply unacceptable. It's certainly not what one would expect at an establishment that sells itself as high end. Don't even get me started on food safety / health codes. I should have asked for a manager and explained what I just witnessed however I became distracted by the company I was with to which I simply forgot until sat to write this review. So to whoever may inevitably read this from the restaurant, please reiterate how unacceptable this is to your staff!!! Pricing - 2.5* Here's the other are I have to mention. Look, it's always in the eye of the beholder and very subjective, but I just can't say this place is great value. The food is great however it's pricey for the portion sizes. The main entrees mostly start in the $30s while the portions are not very large. And the cocktails are around $18-22 with some even in the $40s. Mocktails are say $9-12. The naanzaas are pricey too, all three on the top of the menu run $34 at the time of this review. At the end of the day, pricing can be set where it may cost with the burdens and margins required to stay in business and ultimately patrons will be the judge with their wallets. The business has plenty of visitors, and large parties at that. We witnessed at least four groups of 12 or more ppl. Overall - 3.25* Kiran's has been around for awhile, for good reason, and I'm sure we will visit agin however competition continues to increase. There's another establishment I would recommend to others ahead of Kiran's for those looking for an "elevated" Indian food experience. I will simply say, check the local Michelin guide. read more

We tried this restaurant for the first time while visiting Houston. It has a nice ambiance and our server was very friendly too. We started with their chai old fashioned, which was not bad. It was a nice twist on the traditional old fashioned drink. It's made with Amrut Indian whiskey. For appetizers, we tried their Raj Katori and Pani puri. I enjoyed both. They were delicious. We also ordered their vegetable Thai which came with saag, paneer tikka masala, and some karela with yogurt and naan. We also tried their chicken tikka masala with chicken Briyani. Food was good. It wasn't the best I had in terms of flavoring but the presentation and service was very good. Their chai was my favorite. Apparently it's their own unique blend. For dessert, they gave us one complimentary cake since we were celebrating a special occasion and we also ordered their Panchamrit dessert which our server recommended because it's different than the traditional ras malai. You can see photos of the food below. Getting wet towels at the end to clean your hands was definitely a nice touch. You don't even get that a Michelin star Musaafer Indian restaurant and no complimentary dessert either. These small touches did enhance our dinner experience. I truly enjoy coming here twice a year or so. My favorites are the butter chicken, chicken tikka masala and vindaloo for the main and then bread pudding, mango mousse and gulab jamun for the desserts. Last night I ordered the Butter Chicken with both rice and bullet naan. Very delicious, rich, creamy, mildly sweet n nicely savory curry full of tender hunks of chicken. Very good tomato base and smooth profile, but full of aromas and fat. The rice was very fresh, doughy and the little dried fruit pieces were a nice little extra bite and sweetness to contrast the rest. The bullet naan was more savory than hot with a great taste and very moist, warm tandoor type of vibe to it. It was top notch in softness and texture especially. What an amazing experience we had this evening at Kiran's. The restaurant is beautifully designed. It has a warm atmosphere where you know you're in store for a special experience. Josue took care of us this evening. He was attentive and friendly. He ensured that every detail was covered. Kiran came by and greeted us, along with her daughter, Puja. Together they have created an amazing restaurant. We asked Josue to have chef Kiran to custom curate the menu for our meal. We provided some guidance to Josue, and our culinary adventure began. We had a 9 and 17 year old, with limited palettes, as part of our family dinner. Kiran welcomed them with a 'naanza', a duck and mushroom pizza made from naan. The table loved it. Appetizers were scallops, shrimp, foie gras and the stuffed quail. I don't have quail very often. I would order this every time I dined here. Entrees served family style were Kiran's signature lamb chops, a sea bass dish, chicken tikka masala, vegetarian thali, 2 different naans...I'm sure I'm forgetting a dish in there. Oh, and another naanza for the teenager. We finished our evening with an after-dinner drink, while the kids ate ice cream and a chocolate empanada! The kids loved it! This is a special restaurant ran by talented and special people. The wait staff are well trained and driven to provide exemplary service. I am so glad we made the decision to dine here. Let me get straight to the point, if you're looking for a fancy, pricy, and an ok quality & quantity of food. Then this is for you. However, if you're a huge fan of Indian food, then this is probably not worth the price. When I recently visited, I've ordered their Delhi chat and chicken biriyani. Delhi chat was good but the quantity was too low for 20 bucks. Their biriyani on the other hand was more of a mixed rice with a lot of kewra fragrance in it. I honestly lost the interest to even click a picture like I always do for the gram. Maybe this place is just not for me, but their atmosphere was beautiful & classy. It wasn't busy when we came but slowly started filling up. We shared a South Indian plate & a North Indian thali. Everything was delicious! Portion size is just right for 1-2 people with both plates. Price wise the menu is expensive but considering the food, ambiance, and service it's worth it! Thier bathrooms have hand lotion with hand soap, giving it a luxurious experience. Good friend of mine recommended this place, I was excited to try it and added it to my "check it out" list. It wasn't until my birthday and the generosity of some of the best people I can call friends, Jason D & Lyndsey, made reservations to celebrate my day of birth. Parking is a mix of valet, street and parking garage. I opted for valet as I was already running a bit late (it was $9) The entry is swanky and posh, would return for happy hour to sit at the bar. The friendly waitress walks me over to the table and I admire the cozy interior. Immediately upon sitting Jason hands me the cocktail menu and zero in on the Chai Old Fashioned, Jason and I opt for that while Lyndsey ordered the Nolet 75, Kiran's version of French 75. It had a smooth yet bold flavor with a Smokey chai finish. On the food, we did family style and from what we ordered was enough for the 3 of us. The calamari was chewy and rubbery, not my favorite (one of the reasons for removing a star). Butter chicken was smooth and would've liked a bit more kick as I am use to it having a bit more heat. Jason would've wanted extra heat. I would get it again and perhaps ask if they can service it spicy. I was a bit daring and tried the Lamb Biryani and glad I did. It was flavorful and had spice kick, not heat. Would still get it again. Naan was also ordered, The Lasooni had garlic taste like the traditional naan. Also had Peshwari that was sweet and was a good almost dessert like treat. It had almonds, cashews, pistachios, and rose syrup. To finish off my birthday celebration, we had the Swarg, (heaven) it was sorbet, crème and some pearls. It wasn't overly sweet and light. I wanted to like Kiran's, but it was unfortunately a pretty big disappointment. I agree with reviewers who say the food is not worth the price. I may have heard of Kiran's back when I was still living (growing up) in Houston, but I definitely attended her Yelp cooking demo during COVID where she showed us how to make her signature chai blend. So our visit. We had a reservation for 7:30. We got there a few minutes late, but then it took another 10 min after we arrived to be seated. That foreshadowed everything about the night just taking a really long time. I think we got our apps roughly half an hour after ordering. The potato and nuts samosa came out a bit cold, the mushroom one was an ok temp. They were both so-so, the mushroom one was very mushroomy for those who like the flavor. The palak chaat was a bit heavy on the batter and somewhat dry, and the flavor was just too mild. It was almost 9pm by the time we got our mains. The tandoori salmon didn't have much tandoori taste, it reminded me more of teriyaki. The Punjabi thali was just too expensive for what it was, and none of the flavors wowed. Paneer karahi was a bit better, but the paneer was on the soft side whereas I like the firmer texture (similar to fresh, squeaky cheese curds). The butter chicken part of the thali and the chicken tikka masala were, oddly, the "spiciest" of what we got (which is still not that spicy by Indian standards). They are also not the almost artificially creamy sauces that you may be used to at other Indian restaurants, which I did appreciate. The saffron creme brulee was ok, nothing special. Bottom line for me was that the food just didn't excite my taste buds really in any way and it took way too long for the food to come out. No special birthday offers, if you're wondering. read more

Afternoon tea double date with my girlfriend, her friend and friend's fiancé. Beautiful interiors with comfy, deep seats. Service: Decent service, you are welcomed in, and the main server was friendly. We weren't initially offered refills but after I had requested chai 1-2 times she offered refills on chai, though never made offers to refill on the earl gray or Darjeeling. Food: Mushroom & feti samosa to start was good, and I don't even like mushrooms, so big compliment! The finger sandwiches course was one of the more disappointing. Salmon was meh, and the bread very dry. Curried crab bread was also dry. For 'snacks', I've never seen my girlfriend ever leave food on her plate, so that's very telling. As for cakes and pastries, everyone liked the scones, and the blueberry cheesecake bite was okay; but the other two, a chocolate, and puff were not great. My girlfriend also didn't finish hers, despite this being our first meal of the day. Tea: Okay, but not particularly spectacular tea. Chai wasn't particularly complex or spiced. Darjeeling and earl gray were a tad bit light. Other: The drinking ware are not presentable. Almost every teacup had stains, and every chai glass had a hazy, unwashed look to it. Parking is slightly a hassle. Outside of a paid garage, you can try to park along the side of the street opposite the park and against the fence, but it's fairly packed. Otherwise, there's some street parking a block away. To the Instagrammer, Kiran's is a slam dunk, the interiors, food, and tableware are nice to look at. The actual experience, not so much. Five stars for Susanna the hostess. I had called on Christmas Eve when they would close and whether they allow takeout. When I arrived around 8:30p another hostess told me they paused/weren't allowing takeout and was reluctant to allow it after I explained my call beforehand. Susanna checked for me and took my order. She even brought it out to me since I was waiting outside due to occupancy of the waiting area. read more

I am very "junior" with Indian food, so I was excited to try some new dishes during our work team Christmas party. The food at Kiran's was delicious. There was nothing I did not enjoy. From the appetizers to dessert, it was a great meal. The service was really good, the staff was attentive, welcoming and made lots of suggestion to help our party make sections. One of the servers really went into detail to help me pick dessert (pictured). And it did not disappoint. We had a private room with two large tables, holds about 20 people. There was nice music playing the lighting was perfect. Not too light or dim. Overall I had a great time at Kiran's. I shall return soon. read more

I went to Kiran's for the first time in 2022 where we had the afternoon tea experience! It was very memorable, so I was excited to bring back family for Mother's Day Weekend. - Parking options include valet ($8 w/o tax) or self-parking in the garage behind the building ($5 w/o tax). They don't validate self-parking, which is surprising b/c other restaurants like Money Cat right next door do. - Menu is pre-fixed for the afternoon tea, but you can always add on more items towards the end if you so choose. $65/pp - Service: One of the biggest reasons why I came back. Not sure if it was the hustle & bustle of Mother's Day weekend but our waiter was inattentive & very hard to flag down. The table she was serving next to us, who also were doing afternoon tea, had a breakdown of all the items they were served but we never got the same level of basic service. - Ambiance: It is a pretty restaurant with plenty of opportunity for photos. For Mother's Day weekend, instead of a personal tower of petit fours, they had a buffet line of all the desserts, which often was barren & not re-stocked from the rush of other diners. I felt like this also took away from the experience. - Of note, automatic 20% gratuity is added to the afternoon tea experience. I hope that this was just an off day for the restaurant. I was disappointed & I wish it were a better experience for special occasions like it used to be. I have no problem paying a premium for parking, tip on top of automatic gratuity, and being patient with slower service but with the accumulation of everything above, I'm not sure if I would recommend coming here again. read more

Came for a corporate event and ordered chicken tikka, spinach, a tomato spice tasted cottage cheese dish, yellow lentils, lamb shank, seafood curry and five different types of pizzas. I'd say the cottage cheese dishes are extremely delicious, but not so much on the meat side. I really enjoyed the tomato paste cottage cheese dish (sad I forgot the name), and I'd come back again and order that again. It's cottage cheese cut into cube shape, fried and covered in sweet and spicy sauce. It almost had an Asian twist to it. Dessert is mid - I got the shredded carrot cake with pistachio kulfi. I've had better kulfi for sure. But overall it's not bad. For drinks I ordered sweet lassi and I also tried their salty lassi - both are good and refreshing read more

I absolutely love Kiran's. This fine dining Indian restaurant features amazing, top-notch traditional Indian cuisine made with high quality ingredients, an extensive wine list and fun cocktails, and beautiful decor. Most of all, I'm a fan of Kiran's Restaurant because Chef Kiran is a gem of a person and a culinary legend in Houston. I've experienced happy hour at the bar, chai on the patio, afternoon tea service, and a tasting menu for dinner; all of them were enjoyable experiences. I think the tasting menu is the way to go!
