Tried for dinner tonight, great find! Loved everything we got! Great variety of Indian snacks, desserts, drinks and a large menu of fresh made Indian food! We got the papdi chaat, bhel, vegetable pakora, bento box which came with two curries, 2 roti, and choice of rice/guju dhal or kichdi/khadi. We also got some cookies and mango srikhand. Nice snack store in the Indian complex with Shiv Sagar, one of our favorite places in Houston. We drive to Houston and we always stop at Masala Munchies before we hit the road back to Austin. The masala popcorn and the Kathi rolls are really nice and there's wall to wall snacks. Anything you could want snack wise they make in house and sell. The shop owner was there when we went and he was friendly. Next time we're visiting in Houston we'll go back! read more

Masala popcorn// $3 If I had any control over the movie theater food laws I would declare this the new popcorn. Super buttery but only in the best way and actually lacking any butter, instead using corn oil. There was a spice that showed it's self more through the progression of consumption. Those chips inside were just as perfectly spiced and maintained its individuality amongst the sea of popcorns. I tried this Gem of a Place yesterday for the first time, staff was so friendly, they sampled me few items, explained different menu items, I ordered Bhel Puri and bought two other items. Taste was just perfect, Best Bhel puri I ever had and Sugar-free Mithai was awesome as well. I was told all ingredients are made fresh and locally. This is a must try Houston!!! First time trying Indian sweets that wasn't gulab jamun. I tried milk candy and a few other sweets- similar to their version of fudge and it was divine! The mango and pistachio flavors were my favorite, as was the chocolate. The place was extremely clean. I saw a peek into the kitchen when the lady went out back and it looked shiny and tidy in there as well. It seems they make a lot of product on site which means it's fresh! read more

After a meal at London Sizzler next door stopped by here with my mom to check out what they had to offer. I knew they would have those different colored candy things that all taste the same even though the look different. You know the ones I'm talking about if you have ever tried Indian dessert stuff. They come all together, are different colors and should taste different but all taste the same somehow. Well this place definitely had those but had a lot of other amazing other snacks as well. Found out the guy behind the counter not only owned this place but London Sizzler next door. He was an extremely friendly British guy that gave us tons of free samples of different items. I'm not good with all the names, but my mom ended up buying a few of the fried items that were absolutely delicious. Great prices for the amount in the containers. According to my mother alot of this stuff is the kind of things she got in India during festival times and quite authentic tasting. I didn't see anything crazy, like anything moving around, just simple things to curb a craving. If you like Indian snack things or want to be a little adventurous instead of eating a Snicker bar go by there and pick up a couple bags of goodies an enjoy! read more

Visited for the first time today. I just started working in the area and I was on my lunch break. Super clean and neat!! The attendant was very nice and helpful!! I got sweets and snacks several times from this place. Their white dhokla and mini samosas are good. Few times the ras malai and rasgoolas were bad, had a bad smell, which I found out after reaching home and opening the boxes. This happened on multiple occasions. The chana masala had a typical smell of canned garbanzo beans and tomatoes. Compared to several sweet and snacks stores on hillcroft Avenue, prices for everything at masala munchies are higher and quantity is less. read more

I was a bit disappointed about this place, as I thought there would be a bit more choices for sweets. I really like the name and the entire concept but a lot of this stuff seemed unappetizing and very overpriced. Maybe for people that can confirm authenticity, this place would be a better choice for them. For me, this was all foreign and was really just trying to look for something to munch on. I did end up getting some kind of date sweets and some jamun. But I have definitely tried better and cheaper at some other places. I really did enjoy the hot guy at the cashier though, one of the best looking guys Ive seen in a long time. But you cant pick that up here, stick to the munchies. read more

I love the potato samosa's at Masala Munchies! They are smaller than the samosa's that you'll find in the area - but they pack a punch of flavor. I actually prefer the size of these samosa's in comparison to the larger ones. You can easily eat a samosa or two and not feel overwhelmingly stuffed. The samosa's are filled generously with diced potato, carrots and pea's. The spices are just right as well. Masala Munchies is quite small and its more of a grab and go type of spot. Upon entering, I noticed many folks waiting around for their orders to be complete. On the menu, they have sandwiches, chaat, and many other snacks. There are a few desserts packaged in the cooler as well. Its a vegetarian friendly spot and for those looking for something new. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying a Bombay style sandwich. Everything we bought here was top notch. Especially their prepared fried snacks were really fresh, just right on the spice level. Great variety of chevdas, sev and gathiya (different crispy fried snacks from Gujarat region of India) The sandwich menu is simple. It's just a simple toast sandwich, but reminds me of several vegetable toast sandwich stalls on the streets of Bombay. They also had fresh chai for $1 - awesome!! Their khandvi and dhoklas (white dhokla) were also fresh and super tasty. This place had the white variety of dhoklas which is a delicious recipe made from fermented rice flour and lentils, a genius and nutritious recipe (suck it France). I picked up food from another restaurant in this shopping center yesterday and the sign caught my eye. Masala munchies. I stepped in to check out what this place could be, and was greeted by the owner who later introduced himself as AJ. Being that it was my first time here, he generously offered several samples and before I knew it, I had 3 little plates and 2 spoons stacked in my hands. AJ briefly explained what each item was and what ingredients were in them, but honestly I couldn't pay attention because awesome flavors were exploding in my mouth and I was enjoying the food too much. I'm somewhat of a samosa snob because that's my favorite snack, and I have to say that these are the best I've had in years. It was especially delightful to find such great samosas here yesterday because I recently had some disappointing ones elsewhere. All in all, I think I found my new go to spot for samosas and encourage everyone to go try some pastries and snacks at this place. I popped in after trying Himalaya a few doors down who weren't ready for lunch orders at 11.20am. Interesting. I guess this is a snack mix emporium. Similar to the 'trail mix' style we are used to at supermarket. I didn't try any because I think they also like spicy hot as there is a pepper on the logo. So I had basically a wheat pita type piece of thick "pancake" with tomato, onion and a few other ingredients. Not brilliant. I also had a Chaat. I had no idea what it was but it sounded interesting. It was basically little pieces of a crispy cracker food with a few bits of onions and tomato. Basically it was a snack sort of meal. So neither took the place of a lunch. Its a snack business I think. I loved their yellow penda...a sweet made with almond paste. Perfect balance of sweet and flavor. Prices are really cheap for some things but I would baulk at paying $7 for a trail mix type snack. Nearly forgot. I had 4 samosas. Perfect balance of spice and flavor and very satisfying when dipped in chutney or yoghurt. read more
