Went here recently and ordered a Papri chaat and Pani puri. Papri chaat 4.5/5. It was very good. Vibrant and full of flavor. Pani puri. 4.5/5. Very good also. The tamarind water was delicious. I ordered the karak chai also. 3-5/5. Since this is a cafe and their title suggests a chai spot, they should offer different size cups for chai. Service is counter top. Order food and wait for buzzer to buzz. Ambiance is pretty cool. Nice portraits and catchy posters/phrases. read more

Great spot for an easy to grab chaat that hits to spot! Its a great spot for takeout as well. I usually get the papdi chaat and they package up a large quantity with items separately so they dont get soggy. Be warned, however, that it is on the spicier side. read more

This place is so cute and it's a small place. We ordered mixed chaat, Kashmiri chai, and Karak chai. The chaat came first and then the chai. It arrived super fast. The Karak chai was not too good but it's better than no chai. The Kashmiri chai is super good and so was the chaat. I would definitely go back! read more

Review based on the chai. Karak chai and Kashmiri chai were both on point. Kashmiri chai had a generous amount of pistachios and almonds in it, making for a luxurious delight. The aesthetic of the spot is cute with a lot of instagrammable signs. It was raining hard the night we visited and the owner was around. He was kind and allowed us to stay past closing until the rain died down. Always a pleasure to support a local business when you know the owner is solid. read more

We had cravings for desi street food and we were shopping in the strip so decided to try chai shai. The menu is varied so you'll find something for everyone. It's a small location with limited seating so be mindful of that. The service is top notch. We tried the mixed chaat which was okay. Also had the beef club sandwich which was just mind blowing. I'm not a fan of club sandwiches in general as it's too much bread for me but the combo of buttered toast, shredded beef and a fried egg. *chef's kiss*. This is what I'll come back for. Small place near Subhlakshmi Grocers and Himalaya Restaurant at Hillcroft and I69/US 59. Clean and welcoming interior. The young lady attending to us at the register was the highlight of our visit. Ordered the Chaats on the menu, together with Kadak Chai. Food arrived promptly; however they were disappointing. We're expecting the pop and sizzle of Indian Chaats; however, the taste was sweet and bland ..not what one would expect from Chaats. Chai has hardly any Kadak in it and tasted very milky. Service is not great. We went on a Sunday, and there was a family eating in the restaurant, taking up two tables. As they were eating they kept ordering new items- chai, more paratha, naan, and chaats. We got there at 9:15pm when they close at 10pm (according to google) and we were told we could order take out only. Seems strange when as I said this other family was able to sit inside and continue to order new things. I gave them two stars because I do think their food is good, but it felt really targeted that we were not allowed to eat there but the other folks were. read more

I don't care how hot it is I'm going to have myself a Chai, and it's usually from Chai Shai. I appreciate the variation of chai you can order from masala chai to taveez wali. The menu will remind you of a small burger joint with a twist. They offer an Indian cuisine you can also order from. The chai is always made fresh to order and the staff is always really helpful. There is seating areas if you would like to dine in. I'd definitely recommend stopping in for a quick bite to eat. read more

I never recommend as the very rude and harsh attitude although they are mistaken. Timing wrongly mentioned online so when i arrived there with family. Lady ignored me from inside and upon knocking she waived and cam at the door and slam door on my face when I asked why online time is wrong? This place is awesome. Such delicious food with so many variety of things to choose from! They used to be located in Sugarland and we would always go. Post pandemic they have opened up in Hilcroft and man they're better than ever! Such amazing food, so many options, and great/kind service. We always go for the samosa chaat and the papdi chaat. It's so freaking delicious. They make their own masala in house and you can tell. It makes every single dish amazing. We also love their chicken khousay. So yummy and fresh. We recently went and tried out their burgers and CHILLI which were FREAKING AMAZING. They have revamped their whole entire menu, so definitely something worth checking out. Major pet peeve of mine is when a business has an out of date website/menu/both with incorrect information and then they don't take responsibility for it. Chai Shai is such an offender. When I called to order off of the information on their website, I was rudely told by the man who answered that none of the daily specials or prices are valid. How is that my problem? Either update your menu/website or else honor the obsolete information. I'm really tired of these businesses who do not know how to provide proper customer service or lack manners. I REALLY wanted to try this place out based on other reviews but because of the way I was spoken to, they just lost my business and earned this negative review. read more

I drove by one day and only noticed the sign. The name intrigued me, so I looked up Chai Shai on Yelp. The food in the photos looked very interesting and I was happy to see they delivered, so I decided to give it a try. I was very pleased! The menu is quite vast. We tried the beef puffs, stuffed paratha with beef, samosa chaat, Philly cheesesteak burger, chicken roll, and fries. Everything was so flavorful and really delicious. The chicken puffs reminded me of Jamaica beef Patties. I can't even pick a favorite because everything was so good. I highly recommend and look forward to trying new things next time and actually checking it out in person. read more

Extremely overrated! Customer Service - 1/10 three young girls work their and have no clue about customer service. one of them criticized a customer as soon as he left. Their chat papri has no papri instead they use something similar to Namak para or Frito Lays chips. Full of sauce but almost no chick pea. Kashmiri tea is average. We live in Dallas and we went to Huston to try the authentic Pakistani flavor food over there. On my trip i was craving for tea.... We were searching different options and we found chai shai..... i mean i would say the best karak chai they had... we tried club sandwich and some chaats and they were actually really good. If you don't want to offer a promotion, remove it from Google instead of giving customers conflicting information. Please be honest and consistent with your customers. It made the whole experience feel confusing and untrustworthy, so I ended up ordering elsewhere.

And I understand that. I'd still expect it to be room temperature, not ice cold, almost like I'm eating food straight from the freezer. The Khaman was soft and fluffy, but the chutney it was served with left a bit to be desired. I've brought it home with me, so I can doctor my own chutney and enjoy the Khaman at home.
