The biryani isn't "kind of like jambalaya," the kababs aren't "Pakistani street meat," and the chai isn't "spiced tea." It's just biryani, kabab, and chai, full stop, and if you're lucky enough to live in this city, you have access to two operators doing it at a level that demands attention: Chef Saadat and BBQ Tonite Katy. If you grew up watching ARY Zauq or Hum, you already know the man. Saadat Siddiqi is a MasterChef Pakistan judge, hosted travel-and-food programming across Pakistan's biggest networks, and built a global following while half the rest of us were still figuring out how much haldi goes into daal. Now he's based stateside, and Houston has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of that move. What separates Chef Saadat from your khala who "could open a restaurant if she wanted to" (every desi family has this woman, may God protect her) is that Saadat actually trained. Australia, formal kitchen work, years of broadcast cooking that demanded consistency. So when he runs a pop-up or a curated dinner in Houston, you taste the difference immediately. The masalas are layered instead of blunt. Proteins hit the right doneness without going leathery. The chaat isn't drowned in chutney; it's balanced. It's Pakistani food cooked with the kind of precision that French and Italian kitchens take for granted, and it's a revelation when you realize our cuisine has always deserved that treatment, just nobody was bothering. The man is also genuinely warm. Walk up to him at an event and he'll talk you through what he made, why he made it, and where the recipe came from. That's not nothing. Most celebrity chefs would rather you take a selfie and move along. Tucked into Park Row in Katy, BBQ Tonite has quietly become one of the most reliable Pakistani spots on the west side of greater Houston. The Katy location runs on the same DNA as the broader BBQ Tonite family; charcoal grilling, generous portions, halal across the board, weekend buffet ambitions, but it caters specifically to the Katy desi diaspora that has exploded in the last decade. You're as likely to hear Urdu and Punjabi at the next table as English, and that's the highest compliment I can pay a Pakistani restaurant in America. The mixed grill is the move. Bihari kabab with that papaya-tenderized melt, beef seekh that holds together without being a hockey puck, chicken boti with proper char and yogurt-marinade tenderness, and a tandoori chicken that's actually red because of masala and not food coloring (the cardinal sin of lesser kitchens). Pair it with garlic naan straight out of the tandoor and a side of green chutney, and you're operating at peak efficiency on a dollar-per-flavor basis. The karahi game is strong. The goat karahi has the proper tomato-and-ginger backbone, and they don't drown it the way Americanized desi spots do when they get scared of their own cuisine. Order it with a roghni naan if you're feeling indulgent. Houston's Pakistani food scene has always been good. With Chef Saadat doing his thing and BBQ Tonite holding it down in Katy, it's now genuinely great. Bring out-of-towners. Bring skeptics. Bring the colleague who only knows "tikka masala." I had heard mixed reviews about BBQ tonight and in our case, it was pretty solid. I went with my family and we had a party of about 10-12 folks. They were able to situate us, right away. We ordered the following items. Chicken Karhai. 4.5/5. Very good. Seasoned n vibrant and garnished well. Beef bihai. 4/5. Good seasoning and tasted pretty good with naan n chutney n raita. Chicken tikka. 4/5. These were pretty good. Served with its garnishments. Gola kabob. 4/5. My family enjoyed it. I had a small piece also and thought they were good. As the items are BBQ items, they may seem dry, if u do not use enough raita or daal or something to compliment it with Daal 4.5/5. Enjoyed the tarka daal. Service was good and up to standards. We ordered from the lunch menu the chicken Karahi and the Beef Gola Kabob . Star of the show was the chicken Karahi, it is full of flavor and tender chicken. Portion size is enough for two as well. I think I found the best BBQ in Houstonnnn! So let's start with the hours.. they have extended hours so you can get your fix late at night. There's lots of parking if you decide to sit in! Super friendly service, the waiter kept me updated when my food took a minute (they had to cook it to order on the outdoor BBQ). I enjoyed the nicely decorated, comfortable and clean interior and appreciated plenty of parking outside. Not having tried Pakistani BBQ I wasn't totally sure what to expect, but the food was absolutely delicious. When the menu says spicy, just know that they are not going to pull any punches with the heat. Plenty of options for the heat haters, but I loved the flavors of the spices. Having never tried Pakistani BBQ I was so excited that this restaurant exists so close to me!! The staff was lovely and our waitress so great to answer all of our questions. The food was superb. Fantastic Karachi restaurant opens an official franchise in Houston, how cool is that? Loved the Chicken Malai Boti 10/10 with puri paratha Beef bihari kababs great too. Served with sliced raw onions like in Karachi. Chutneys that go with BBQ. Nalli pulao was good but this is a BBQ restaurant mainly. Made my day and this will be a solid BBQ spot for me every time I am in Houston. Very nice clean place decorated well. Restaurant was full Sat night but food came out fast. Ashley (Ash) was a sweetheart and answered questions well. Floor manager and chef came out to check on us, just incredible. Ah-mazing by the BBQ Tonight's management and team executing their recently introduced "ALL YOU CAN EAT" buffet offering at $18.99/Person where kids under 5 eat free. The menu is generous with over 15 highly desirable dishes ranging from Pakistani cuisine to some Chinese specialties. Their ambiance and staff is next level as they're only worried about making sure that they're taking care of their customers at all times. I am huge fan and would recommend anyone that likes to enjoy a nice outing with family or friends or loved ones while being treated with best of the buffet offerings in the city. This was actually a very good experience. The name doesn't state that it's Pakistani bbq-- I got a recommendation from a Pakistani acquaintance. It wasn't crowded (Sat nite). No booze. I ordered a mango shake (lassi) and wife ordered mint lemonade-- these were thumbs up, particularly the mango shake. The mutton ribs, daal fry, naan and raita were all top notch, especially ribs and daal. I thought the chicken roti kebab was pasty in texture, not sure why, though the flavor was good (maybe this was a fluke experience due to the chicken having been frozen (?? I really don't know). By the way, the ribs come w fries and rice. With that dish and the daal and naan, and maybe a couple of mango lassi, that's all one couple would need. The best part about the place was the server she was funny. The food is not up to Houston Pakistani food standards. We had the Lahore fish as an appetizer was probably the best thing. The Chicken Peshawari Karahi was decent, the taste is there but the chicken felt really dry to eat. Could definitely improve on that end. The Chicken Reshmi was pretty decent, just needed a little more time to cook and it would've been great. The chicken Bihari was dry as well. Was a little disappointed that y'all don't serve raita with the bbq dishes it could probably help combat that dryness. Other than that the pricing for the bbq items were pretty high and the quantity is low. Naan on the other hand is amazing, yall have that down. Yet, I must say, the experience I had was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment the first bite of that impeccable Pilau touched my palate, I knew I had stumbled upon something special. The quality of the food, paired with the ambiance and the service, all harmonized to create one of the finest dining experiences I've had in any Pakistani restaurant. Truly outstanding in every way. Terrible management, Pathetic Owner. People are waiting outside the restaurant for hour and when seated half of the food was unavailable. If there's no kunna he should've announced to the people outside waiting. Originally we were told 35 minutes to get seated but it took an hour and 10 minutes... cool. After being seated and forced to order alternatives as half the food was no longer available.. the food came 35 minutes later (BUT NOT ALL OF IT lol) We ask 3x and finally the owner comes and says " The chef messed up the Chicken Handi and now I can't serve you that". Owner should be more concerned and focused on the food quality and quantity (50 bucks for kharai) rather than nagging about how much more clean the tables should be. This place is a big disappointment Also, they brought out tap water in fancy bottles (after having to ask for it) and it was luke warm lol. Finally got some cold water bottles but come on... be better at your jobs. And if under your management its a complete shit show?? DONT HAVE AN ATTITUDE! As a family we go out every weekend religiously to eat for probably the past decade. 1,000 restaurants later, some good, others great.. some average ones we never returned to.. This is my first ever "review".. beware of management's narcissism and hopefully the public can humble him. Maybe 6 months from now and many many good reviews later we'll reconsider eating here. Had the worst experience of our lives at BBQ Tonite. Being from Karachi, we all were beyond excited to try this place and waited for August to celebrate 4 anniversaries and 5 birthdays to make the experience worthwile. But wow! What a huge disappointment the management is. We called in the morning and requested the reservation for 35 people. The guy "Ahmed" said please come exactly at 7 pm and we will entertain you. We reached at exactly 7 pm, one after another almost 30 of us were there by 7:15. We were asked to wait for 30 mins and were told that no reservations are accepted. The manager spoke to us so rudely as if we were there to eat free food. The first impression I got was how are they running a restaurant with no customer service, no smiles on the face to greet the customers and zero ethics of speaking to the customer. We were patiently waiting inside the restaurant when another family came and was seated infront of us. When we asked the manager or whoever he was, he said they had a reservation for 6:30. Umm wait what? Didnt you just tell us that reservations were not accepted?? We were still willing to wait and were about to go outside the restaurant to wait in our cars when one of our friend overheard Ahmed saying the other guy let me call the Sheriff and kick them out. 35 people have come to your restaurant to celebrate their occasions, give you business and are waiting patiently and you want to kick them out?? You have a restaurant now so the height of your arrogance has reached new limits or what? My husband went to him to ask why he said these words and he started arguing with my husband and pushed him, my husband ofcourse got heated and said dont you dare touch me. Ahmed said to my husband, "You are done from Houston wait and watch what i am going to do with you." The owner or whoever he was, threatened my husband infront of our kids. All of us were literally pushed out of the restaurant. When I said to the manager, is this how you treat your customers? His words were thank you for coming and good bye. Lol!! Shame on you guys. With this attitude, you are going to survive in Houston for not more than 6 months. So best of luck to you guys. I know I wont be going there ever and the 8 families with me wont too.
