    Wagyu ramen
    Sofia K.

Been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and finally made plans with a friend on a Wednesday evening. We arrived at 7:30 and there were only 2 people waiting ahead of us. We were taken inside to be seated within 5 minutes. It's a small space, but I'm sure it's to give an authentic Japanese vibe. The menu includes many different varieties of ramen from traditional pork to vegan. The appetizers are not to be missed. We had the enoki chips and wagyu on rice. Yum. I ordered the wagyu beef ramen special without the pork sauce and my friend ordered the garlic knock out. The Wagyu ramen was so incredibly delicious with a deep umami flavor..... I polished off the entire bowl knowing I'd be extremely uncomfortable afterwards... the Wagyu was so tender and buttery. Amazing. Will definitely keep coming back

Glad I got to come when there was not a rush. Had the enoki crisp and GKO with chicken and duck. Ramen generally is pretty heavy for me so we shared one and the enoki crisp. The crisp was a little greasier than I remember but still delicious! Service is pretty quick and I love that you can get good delicious food quick with great service and run out. Ramen as always is delicious and full of flavor beautiful layers to it. Everything from the floor plan to the dining ware feels intentional which I also love

If you haven't been to Mensho Ramen yet, stop what you're doing and go. Seriously. We went as a family, and it completely blew us away. We ordered the Wagyu and uni hand rolls (incredible), plus both the classic and signature ramen, and every single bite was next level. The depth of flavor, the richness of the broth, the quality of the ingredients... you can tell this isn't just ramen, it's an experience. We also added the four different garlics, which took everything over the top in the best way possible. Even though we were the only ones there with a kid, it was very kid friendly. They had nice booster seats and were very accommodating. The real review though? Our 3-year-old declared it her "favorite food ever." And honestly, same. Houston has no shortage of amazing food, but this place stands out. We'll be thinking about this meal for a long time.

Amazing! Came on a weekday for lunch and there was a slight wait, nothing too bad. I ordered the signature which had creamy soup, a thin slice of A5 wagyu, a good portion of chashu, spinach, truffle sauce, jammy egg, and a swirly fried mushroom thing. Everything was delicious. The broth had amazing flavor and was thick enough to coat everything. The egg was cooked perfectly and marinated well. The chashu was tender and flavorful. The noodles themselves were thick and chewy. It's a bit of a splurge for a bowl or ramen but worth it in my opinion.

This might be the definitive ramen bar experience in Houston. I won't act like I've gone to Japan to do the real thing, but this made it feel like I could lie and say I did. The line was there even on a weekday lunch, we were put on the list and asked to wait outside as space is limited, they manage the crowd well and keep the tables moving. Friendly despite the uncomfortable action of making people wait around outside of your restaurant. The menus help you to be ready to order once you get inside, so it's kinda part of the process. The menu itself is nice and tight with half a dozen ramen dishes with some sides and drinks to choose from. The first time here, so we all went with the classic and it didn't disappoint. Bouncy and plump noodles sleeping in the most unctuous and rich broth I have slurped in my life. The only way I can describe it is as, pure concentrated pork cooked down to a liquid. The toppings were all top tier as well when I compare it to others I've had, so top to bottom a complete and unrivaled bowl for Houston standards. The side were pleasant as well, not as outstanding as the ramen, but yummy nonetheless.

This is the new go to ramen spot in Houston; much like the aggravating line that was always present at Tiger Den, the crowd has now shifted over to being in front of Mensho. Parking in this plaza is always tough, good luck there. The wait on a weekday was about 25 minutes so it'll be tough on a weekend. The interior is small and pretty cozy; food was brought out quickly considering the wait outside. Their ramen is flavorful but not overly porky and rich like Jinya. Their toppings are good quality and it's a decent portion; however at great portion comes fairly high cost. It's a $24 bowl of ramen for their signature ramen. Their fried chicken is okay/ good and their takoyaki is cooked well; actual octopus pieces were used. Overall the ramen is solid. Is it worth the $24 and the long wait time? It's debatable. Still think Mensho and Jinya are the two tastiest ramen options in town currently

I love Mensho in SF. It's one of my favorite Tori Paitan bowls in the states. So, when I came to visit my friend in Houston, I had to stop by. It sufficiently sated my ramen craving. The presentation was beautiful, the broth was perfect temperature and creaminess, and the noodles were perfectly al dente. The black garlic oil and spicy sauce helped elevate my Signature bowl. I would recommend Mensho to anyone looking for creamy authentic Japanese ramen in Houston, Texas. Note that you cannot make a reservation so you will have to queue. Even though we arrived around evening opening on Saturday, we still had about a 30-minute wait.

Oooo really good ramen!! Mensho is now my new top ramen spot. The broth is flavorful, rich, but not oily; the eggs are perfectly jellied, the noodles are nice and chewy, and there's a good amount of meat and toppings. There's a little dollop of what seems to be truffle paste or something along those lines in the Signature, and I really enjoyed that added touch of flavor! I rarely ever finish my food, but I finished the entire bowl of ramen. They have many other ramen options that are quite unique (ex. Garlic Knock Out). I will definitely be returning! The restaurant is pretty small and fills up quickly. A party size of 2-4 is perfect for this, any larger it may be a bit hard. The ramen is a bit more expensive than most other places I've been to, but I'd say it's worth it. You should be able to taste the difference in quality!

Was invited here by a friend for my birthday. Lucky there was no line when we arrived, but the restaurant itself was busy, and after a few minutes, there was a line outside. The restaurant itself is very small, so don't hope to bring a huge party here as they probably can't accommodate it. For those who have been to Japan, think of those tiny little ramen shops with just booth seating and a few tables; this is basically the size of it. They have unique ramen that they make from vegan ones to very garlicky ones. I got the G.K.O (Garlic Knock Out); it came out looking amazing. But the broth was more like a stew consistency, which wasn't bad, but I wasn't expecting that. Also got the fried Enoki Mushroom; it was okay but tasted better in my ramen as a topping. Overall, not a bad place to have ramen, but it will be at a pricey cost to do so.

This is my second time here and I have to say the ramen is here is so consistent! I get why this Mensho received a Michelin star in the past years consecutively! We got here at 11:15am and lucky for us we were the first ones in line. We went on a Monday. Shortly after the business is open then people came in the restaurant was half full. The last time I came here on a Friday or Saturday I had to wait 45 mins to get in after opening time. Service was great and fast. We ordered: * signature ramen: 5/5 hands down rhe best ramen I've ever tried! Complex flavors and the Wagyu melted in your mouth. The duck was juicy and just mind blowing with the cream stuff on top. The pork chatsu is Smokey and created a different element to the ramen. The besttttt pork Chatsu I've ever had. Juicy both the pork and chicken and tender. The crispy Gobo gave a crispy element which is needed. Eat bite in the ramen is a different type of bite which makes this ramen a treasure hunt for a foodie. So good and a must try if you are going to try Mensho. Wasn't heavy on truffle and was a great creamy balance. I didn't feel heavy or sleepy after. The freshly made ramen noodles are the BEST I've had. It bouncy chewy and just addicting to eat! I love that these ramen is made with wheat! I would have never guess! If I can purchase only the fresh ramen noodles to keep in stock at home I would! (Hint hint at Mensho) * classic ramen- 2/5 my plus1 got this ramen and was disappointed. It didn't have as much elements and depth as the signature. Yes it's the cheapest one on the menu but if you want a wow experience signature is a must. * Takoyaki- 5/5 is the best Takoyaki I've had! It's so hard to find a good Takoyaki and this one sings in your mouth! Perfectly seasoned battered and yhe octopus to batter ratio is perfect! Octopus is tender and soft chewy! Perfect amount of sauce and flakes! We devoured them balls! Warning it's super hot when they come out so be caution not to burn your mouth. Previous visit: * fried enoki mushrooms - 5/5! I didn't know enoki mushrooms can taste so good! It's addicting and taste like an Unami chip! Crispy but not oily! Wow , likely battered and reminded me of pixy sticks vibes * Aji fry: 3/5 it was a good dish but it wasn't something life changing for me. Do I recommend this place? 10000000% yes! Hands down the best ramen I had in Texas and Japan. Go with the signature ramen because you can't go wrong with that. I want to come back and try their dinner menu. They serve sushi, ramen, and different dishes during their dinner hours.

It's officially been 2 months since our trip to Japan and we decided it was finally time to find a ramen spot in Houston that could meet our new ramen standards lol Small spot and very fast-paced, food came out quick and quality was great. The Garlic Knockout was the perfect mix of spice and richness and the chicken was superb. Signature ramen was perfectly creamy and the texture of the noodles was fantastic - overall a good classic bowl of ramen. Nigiri and karage chicken were good but were served after we received our ramen so we didn't enjoy them as much. Will most likely not order the next time we visit. Mensho definitely delivered on authenticity and vibe from the food all the way to the line at the door - we felt like we got a little taste of Japan in the heart of Houston! Oishi

Came here for my birthday with a friend and I was so excited to try the ONLY Michelin star rated ramen place in Houston - and friends, it did not disappoint. Upon arriving I was met with a line going out the door but once I entered I was not surprised because it is a much smaller restaurant, truly Japanese style. (This was also a Wednesday night) Now onto the FOOD. The Enoki Chips were sooo delicious. Me and my friends both tried them for the first time and they were light, crispy, and flavorful -- a true appetizer. My friends ordered the KO Ramen and knock out indeed. It is super flavorful and even as someone who is a certified garlic lover, I'm not sure if I could finish a bowl on my own. My friend also said it was a bit TOO flavorful (not over seasoned) for her. I ordered the signature ramen and I thought it was perfect! The broth was flavorful and rich, the noodles were thick, and the meat was GENEROUS. Last but not least, the matcha cheesecake. The matcha flavor was veryyy subtle and its also not your classic cheesecake. It taste like a nice creamy matcha snack lol. But I did enjoy! Definitely better for people who don't really have a sweet tooth. Although delicious, I would describe Mensho as an everyday Ramen spot. Their ramen is a bit too hardy and flavorful to enjoy routinely - definitely more of a special treat. But one I WILL be back for!

I've been to Mensho about three times now, and it's almost always busy (unless you catch it at lunch on a weekday). The space is small and intimate with limited seating, but service is consistently quick and great. Signature Ramen (9.5/10): Loved it. Super flavorful broth, great variety of protein, and the noodles are the perfect texture. Everything comes together really well. Matcha Duck Ramen (9/10): I was skeptical at first, but this one wowed me. Somehow they made matcha savory in ramen and it works. The duck is very tender. I'd honestly order this every time if I don't want something as heavy as the signature. Chicken Karaage (10/10): One of the best karaage I've had, amazing flavor and a solid crunch. Corn Wings (3/10): Tried this because it was recommended, but wouldn't get it again. It's basically grilled corn w/ some seasoning, not worth the price compared to other sides. A5 Wagyu Nigiri (6/10): Good, but the meat was very thin and there was a heavy rice-to-meat ratio, which took away from it.

Flying V Harvest was fantastic. I drank that broth like I just came out of the Sahara. So good. The Impossible meat fusion is a funny add but a good protein bump. Their ramen is flavorful and solid and their service is consistent. Parking: parking is free in the garage around the corner from JINYA. We went during the week and the garage was not packed. There's also paid street parking around the restaurant that you can find but look for signs to know when you have to pay and when you don't. Service: service here is very good. They have an army of waitresses and waiters who check on tables and we never had to ask for refills or never had to flag down someone. Our food came out in a timely manner. The one thing I will say about service is the appetizers we ordered came out right before our ramen so we had all of our food at one time which was a lot. I wish they would've spaced out the food timing a little more. Ambiance: JINYA has a modern interior and open concept. They have tables, booths, and 2 big community tables in the center of the restaurant. The restaurant playlist is hip and modern. The inside of the restaurant is dimly lit so if you have bad eyesight, get ready to use your flashlight to read the menu. Food: we ordered two ramens and the gyoza and edamame. Gyoza: these were fried well and had a gyoza sauce that came on the table. The wrapper was thin and they were not too oily. We would order this again. Edamame: this was typical edamame. Nothing too special. Would not get this again when we come back. Creamy Classic Tori-Paitian: this is a chicken ramen with wavy noodles that came with fried enoki mushrooms, chicken chasu, butter, spinach and a corn rib. This ramen was rich in flavor and had so many fun, delicious toppings. The corn run was grilled nicely and I wish I had more of them in my bowl. I'm a sucker for enoki mushrooms and this did not disappoint. I took the enoki mushrooms out of the ramen immediately so they didn't get soggy fast and that was the move if you want the mushrooms to stay crunchy. The chicken broth was rich and light which was a great combo. I finished this bowl to the last drop. JINYA Chicken Ramen: my girlfriend got the chicken ramen with a side of bamboo. Warning on the bamboo: the bamboo comes dressed in sesame oil and sole hot oil so they are a little spicy. The chicken ramen broth was once again rich with flavor and light. The chicken chase was good and this ramen comes with thin noodles instead of wavy noodles. Overall JINYA hits the spot when craving ramen or some hot soup on a cold day. The chicken broth is legit and I will be closing back to try the pork broth soon. My only qualm with JINYA is the price at over $17 per bowl of ramen. There are cheaper ramen places but JINYA flavor makes up for the priciness.

However, since crawfish season is one of my favorite times of the year, I had to come back to try their limited edition ramen. Just like my first visit, the staff were extremely friendly, the food came out incredibly quickly, and the overall experience felt comforting and welcoming. I ordered the seasonal bowl, The Crawmen, which came with crawfish tonkotsu broth, andouille sausage, bayou butter, corn, and peppers. While the bowl was clearly inspired by a crawfish boil, I felt like it could have leaned even further into those flavors with more crawfish and a stronger boil seasoning overall. The ramen was definitely delicious, but the broth did not quite have enough crawfish boil flavor to fully separate it from their standard tonkotsu ramen. At times, it mostly tasted like the original broth with andouille sausage added in. Even so, it was still an enjoyable bowl of ramen, though I would probably stick to one of their regular menu options over this seasonal special. My mom and I also shared the Karaage, which arrived very quickly while still being piping hot, crispy, and juicy inside. On the other hand, I would personally skip the Sakura Sweet Tea and Strawberry Yuzu Lemonade in the future since they mostly tasted like their regular counterparts without adding anything particularly unique. Overall, I still really enjoy the welcoming atmosphere and reliable quality of this place, especially the ramen and karaage. While the seasonal bowl did not fully live up to its concept for me, the experience itself was still enjoyable enough that I would gladly return again.

The kaarage wasn't crispy at all and the dumplings just tasted like basic chili oil you find in a jar. ******The business owner did comment stating that their chili oil is made in house, which is great, but for me and my experience I wasn't a big fan. My comment still stands :) *Entrees: 7.5/10 I am a big unagi fan and was really excited to try the one here. Unfortunately the mountain of sauce on top was not good therefore making this a solid 7/10. My husband got the spicy chicken one (not quite sure exactly which one) but he really enjoyed it. 9/10 I got the Spicy Miso with a side of ribeye. I feel like we've had better ramen elsewhere but this was still a solid contender. And the steak was actually really good! It was super soft. Overall 7.8/10 Lastly we received a yakult when checking out. This was a nice touch to end the night! Overall review: would only come back for the ramen broth and the meats! Skip the appetizers!!

Service did not stand out, but when we needed our guy he was nearby and ready to help us. Will definitely be returning! :))

DEM NACHOSSS WAS BUSSIN'…read more Let's get right into it. We went here as a last minute option due to Leighton's House of Lamb + Ramen being CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS. Boom, we come here. They deserve 4.5 stars because come on it's 24/7 ramen. Parking is cool but limited. First impression walking in was that it has this really unique and dope vibe. I love the set up and it was giving spacious. There were cassette tapes aligned on the wall in the booth we sat in, which I thought was very creative. There was Anime characters above the doors when you first walk in, with Anime playing on the TVs at the bar. Oh yeah, THERES A FULL BAR if you ready to get your drink on. Now, off rip the host was annoying. She was kinda rushy and caught an attitude when we asked for a booth. We can't even describe the vibe she gave off fr. It was just BLEH. Our table was clean which is very important to us and our waitress Yasmin was kind and patient with our questions, and dietary substitutions. We ordered the Super Saiyan Nachos as an appetizer for $16. Maaann, these were so delicious!!!!! We actually substituted the pork for shiitake mushrooms and when I tell y'all we were surprised at the portion We both looked at each other like "YAAASSSSSS" Next came our Ramen orders which didn't take long at all. Not that we were counting because we were INDULGED in those nachos LOL Babii rated her Oxtail Ramen a '7/10' for $25. She would've preferred to get shiitake mushrooms because she particularly didn't like the fact that the Oxtails were shredded and not on the bone (which is what we both expected when reading it). She also would've liked if they gave her a spice option since she likes spicy ramen. Unfortunately, we had to purchase a nasty 'Kappa' sauce which was not worth the $1.50. To her the portion size was A1, however we paid for the meat so it wasn't worth the $25. Now, the Vegetable Garden to me was a '8.5/10' it was good, had amazing portion size and they were not lacking in the texture department. I mean, the spinach noodles were delish, vegetable cooked very Al dente. I cannot complain on that part. To me it was missing a bit of flavor, maybe salt would've done the trick. Overall though, it did have the flavor of the mushrooms which wasn't bad. Most importantly though, I felt light after consuming my meal. Therefore, I have to give it all a high rating. GO TRY THIS PLACE OUT, ITS WORTH THE TRY
