Kimchi and seasoned fish cakes - both pretty bad

My wife and I had dinner here last night. It was a bit tough to find parking as the plaza is pretty small but busy. The restaurant is casual but clean. The service was good. The good was generally good (see below). The side dishes were a disappointment (especially the kimchi). We had: Broiled Spicy Beef Rib (Galbijim) - (5/5) - Very flavorful. Good quality beef with good mix of squash and vegetables. The sauce is very good. My wife had this dish better and said it was too spicy so we asked for it a bit milder. Even with this, it still had a kick. Very good dish. Tteokbokgi (spicy rice cakes) - (4/5) - Good version of this traditional Korean dish. Sauce was yummy, but a bit too watery. Bibimnangmyun (spicy noodles) - (2.5/5) - The miss of the night. The noodles had a weird aftertaste (kind of smelled a bit like paint to me). My wife said they did a poor job rinsing the noodles. I would not order this again. There are other things I want to try on the menu so will likely be back. I do wish the banchan (side dishes) were better.

The ribs were tender, packed with rich flavor, and just the right amount of char, though I wish there wasn't as much fat. The assorted ingredients in the pot are glass noodles, pumpkin, mushrooms, rice cakes, carrots, and green onions all soaked up the broth, making every bite satisfying. The sauce was flavorful but a bit on the thicker side. The bossam (pork belly) is always a winner here. It's soft, savory, and perfect with the dipping sauces, fresh garlic, and jalapeño. The restaurant has a cozy, family-owned feel with a calm atmosphere. Service was excellent; the staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming.

Stopped by Yuk Dae Jang in Houston for dinner with friends, and it's now high up on our list for Korean food. We ordered the ox soup, and it came out bubbling hot with tender slices of meat glass noodles, and veggies exactly what I was craving. The flavor was rich and comforting without being too salty. The bossam was flavorful and paired really well with all the sides given. We also tried a few side dishes, and everything tasted fresh, especially the kimchi. The service was quick and friendly, and the restaurant was clean and cozy. The portions were generous, and we all left full and happy. Only reason it's not a full 5 stars is that the spice level could've been a bit bolder, but overall, it's a great go-to for hearty Korean comfort food!

I am glad that I tried Yukdaejang last night. I never thought I would come here since it opened in July 2023. To be honest, it's very pricey for me. By reading the meaning of Yukdaejang on its website, it supposedly has more meat dishes, particularly premium meats. I don't seek out pork dishes. Therefore, I skipped that section. I looked at the menu. It was divided into 3 sections: mild on the left, spicy in the middle and pricey dishes with meats only on the right. The waiter warned me about the spicy noodle soups Yukdaejang being SPICY and he had that expression spoke with volumes. I asked a waitress about the difference of ox bone broth and SulLung Tang on the hidden menu (not sure why it's a separate menu). She didn't give me a straight answer. Ok whatever. I don't want to come back to try ox bone soup. My Beef Brisket SulLung Tang with Glass Noodle 양지설렁탕 came so quickly. I barely finished reading 3rd Yelp reviews. I didn't care for the bunchans because I don't like any of them. The kimchi was too salty and sour. The fishcake was hard to chew. The third one was green chives with liquid smoke, salt, sugar, shoyu and something. It tasted awful. I rather have just pickled onions. The soup was bland. There was no salt shaker nearby. The presentation was lacking and looks unappealing. I drove by Royal Buffet and thought that might be a too late to catch fresher food refill. Then, I thought about turning around to Jang Choong Dong but again, I don't want to waste gas. In reality, Yukdaejang has bigger soup bowl than JangChoongDong and they have purple rice. Overall, I am glad that I tried. Not coming back.

Visited the Houston location and ended up liking the Bossam (boiled pork) even more than the famous beef soup. The Bossam was surprisingly flavorful. It's not plain boiled pork -- the meat was tender but still had structure, with a subtle braised aroma. The fat wasn't greasy and the lean parts weren't dry. Paired with the pickled plum and fresh cabbage, it felt balanced and clean rather than heavy. Definitely one of the better Bossam dishes I've had in Houston. The spicy beef soup (yukgaejang) was also solid. What I appreciated most was that the beef didn't have any gamey or bloody taste, which can sometimes happen with beef soups. The texture actually reminded me of the quality of beef short ribs I usually buy at Whole Foods -- tender and clean. I also liked that they used kabocha squash instead of potatoes in the stew. We also tried the pork cutlet. The portion was very generous. Flavor-wise it was decent and straightforward -- probably a safe choice for kids or anyone who prefers milder dishes. They offer a lunch combo from 11am-3pm where you can add a small portion of Bossam or dumplings to your main dish. Considering the portion size and quality, it feels like a good value during lunch hours. Overall, this Houston location feels like a dependable spot if you're craving Korean comfort food, especially hot soups or Bossam.

Highly recommended! The large chunks of beef are incredibly tender, and the side dishes include pumpkin, potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, rice cakes, and glass noodles. Everything is very flavorful. Good service, employees are very friendly!

I was craving some Korean food, especially some kalbijim because I was thinking of Daeho and wanted desperately to find something in Houston like it. I found Yuk Dae Jang and decided to order a kalbijim to-go! First off, Daeho serves theirs on a sizzling hot stone bowl, obviously you can't do that for a to-go order. Their portion was decently sized but a bit expensive for what you get, at close to $100 for this one dish after tax and tip! The sauce is alright but not caramelized like I wanted to see and the meat was tough.. I was looking for melt in your mouth, caramelized, fall off the bone beef ribs! This was not that. Even though it filled us up nicely, it just didn't live up to par. The dish also contained white radishes, pumpkin, rice cakes, onions and carrots!

Premium Pork Belly (Small) - Absolutely delicious! It paired perfectly with all the sides, and the bossam was incredibly tender. 9/10 Sul Lung Tang - Perfect for a chilly day! The flavors were comforting, though it could use a bit more seasoning. Still, I really enjoyed it. 8/10 Banchan - Tasty, but I wish there was more variety. 7/10 Service - The staff was friendly and very attentive! 10/10

Went here with my family for lunch on the weekend. The restaurant is tucked away behind all the major plazas in Bellaire. The parking lot is kind of small, but I was still able to find parking pretty easily. '' The portion size for most of the entrees here is meant to serve about 2-3 people, so plan accordingly with your group. We got the Bossam, Army Stew, and the Bulgogi with glass noodles, and this was more than enough for my small group. I like that they bring up a portable burner to place the food on because it will keep the food warm or hot during the entire meal. It does take up more room on the table, but I rather have my food nice and hot while eating. The Bossam was very tender. I ate it with purple rice or wrapped it up in lettuce with some kimchi and sauce. The Army soup was great, with tons of toppings in it because of the noodles, because it can become very soggy staying in the broth for so long. The Bulgogi had a nice flavor, and it was my first time having it with the glass noodles, which I have seen more of before but never had it together. Service was good. They checked up on us and brought out more water for us as needed.

This is probably my fourth visit here, and this place consistently delivers great flavors! My friend and I came for lunch and noticed they had a special lunch menu. We ordered the Yuk Gae Jang with pasta and a mini Bossam. While the Bossam was a bit dry, it still tasted good. The Yuk Gae Jang with pasta was delicious and flavorful with just the right amount of spice. The portion was definitely enough for two. What really sets this place apart, though, are the unlimited side dishes. Their green onion kimchi is one of my favorites, it's perfectly light and incredibly addictive! The restaurant's interior is cozy, and our server was very friendly, making the overall experience even better.

This was my first time trying Korean soup and it was absolutely worth it! I ordered The original Yuk Dae Jung spicy which has beef brisket pieces and glass noodle. It was very flavorful and needed no extra seasoning or anything! It comes with complimentary vinegarette salad, tofu pickle kind of a thing, and kimchi. Must try this place if you like Asian food. Very good for price too! 10/10

Absolutely love this place for their Korean braised short ribs and the Yukdaejang soup w ramen. It is pricy but well worth for the flavor or portion size overall. Service is always fast and nice with casual ambiance. Kpop is always playing in the back group and kpop mv playing on the screens. They do have lunch specials with their bossam and soups!

The stone pot was still boiling when it was served, and the aroma was fragrant. The pot was filled with beef short ribs, pumpkin, potatoes, onions, carrots, vermicelli and other ingredients. The portion was so large that two people could not finish it. The beef is braised until it is soft, tender and tasty, with just the right amount of fat. The tendons are chewy and not dry, and the soup is just the right amount of salty and sweet. It is perfect to go with rice, and you can choose the level of spiciness. If you can eat spicy food, you can choose a spicier one, which will go better with rice! Tastes better

First the meat look different than what others have posted before, and it was kinda dry and too salty to eat. There was no other spice, only the meat juice flavor. The bun they use was stale to eat. Traditional way of making this should be the flaky oily pancake, or at least make the buns softer to eat. The mutton stew was clear and very heartwarming to drink on a cold day. But the portion is super small for the price. The glass noodles were gone in literally two bites. I had none to share with my boyfriend. This dish come with the burger bun too that you can soak them in the soup so I guess this is the extra carb make up for the less noodles. Oil splash noodle is their specialty? It was good but didn't wowed me. Noodles are chewy and well cooked, came with lots of bean sprouts. The sauce is flavorful and actually not too oily which I enjoyed more. You can add the beef for an extra charge, it's the regular braised beef, was just ok. I find it funny that their all food arts on the wall look nothing like the actual way they serve it.

On my most recent visit we ordered mapo tofu with pork intestines off the specials menu - a hybrid of two of my favorite Sichuan-style dishes. The blend of bouncy, savory morsels amidst tender, saucy tofu was at once revolutionary and so obvious; why hadn't I yet seen this at any other restaurant? And sure, innards may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's important for you to know that none of my past orders from the 50+ item menu have ever failed me, whether enjoyed in the restaurant or at home. Maybe you'd prefer the aromatic, classic, perfectly balanced three-cup chicken? Or the sweet-skinned duck, glazed so delicately that specks of sugar crystal threaten to jump off onto the plate as you pick up a juicy slice with your chopsticks? And if you're vegetarian, might you consider the punchy garlic eggplant or the wok-kissed string beans? I could go on. Do yourself a favor and come see for yourself, though I'd recommend parallel parking on the neighborhood streets behind the restaurant rather than the rocky parking lot, to save you some trouble. Bring friends and chow down family style - you'll need help covering as much of the menu as you can, but you'll definitely have to come back to try everything.

Not for me who doesn't enjoy lamb but was tolerable since it wasn't gamey. Shanxi Oil Noodle - what they are known for. I love the slightly chew and wide hand-pulled noodles. It was almost perfect for me but one of the best in Houston metro area. After eating, you can walk it off at the market or get some sweets from another place within the shopping mall.

There was a sign on the table advertising a "free appetizer" if you take a photo and tag the restaurant on social media. I followed the instructions exactly as stated, but when I mentioned it, the server initially refused to honor the promotion. After I pointed out the sign, she appeared upset and walked away. I saw she went to speak to another employee and cracked a smiled and looked over. She later returned and offered a small discount instead. The issue wasn't about the money or the discount, it was the principle. The promotion was clearly advertised, and I simply followed the restaurant's own policy. It was disappointing to feel like the restaurant was reluctant to honor something they were actively promoting. I hope management addresses this because customer service and consistency with advertised promotions make a big difference in the overall dining experience.
