Coming back to this place from when I initially went, the food quality really is superb and the quality of the fish cakes and kimchi banchan makes up for the slightly higher price. They also have lunch specials on weekdays that are fantastic deals. The yukgaejang with the pasta noodles remains a favorite. The bossam was a little dry though and I still think the other non-sub-$20 soup items are overpriced.
I got a seafood kimchi stew with hand made pasta which came with clams, mussels, and prawns! The noodles were very thick and had a nice bite to them. The soup was a little more spicy than I would've liked but it was very good to eat on a cold day. My friend got the ox tail broth which came with dumplings. The soup was really hearty and flavorful and was refreshing in how simple it was. The meat and onions paired really nicely with the broth. It also came with purple rice which is my personal fav since it has a nice texture. The banchan came with kimchi, fish cakes, and pickled carrot/onion. This is by far one of the best restaurant kimchis I've had! Very savory and refreshing. The interior was clean and service was good too.
Yuk Dae Jang might be my new favorite Korean soup spot. The broth alone is to die for! Very rich, comforting, and packed with authentic flavor in every bite. I had the spicy seafood soup with fresh noodles, and it was spectacular. The noodles were cooked perfectly and soaked up all that incredible broth. The mix of shrimp, mussels, and squid made it feel hearty and well-balanced. I also tried my friend's beef short rib soup, which was just as delicious, definitely ordering that next time. The banchan really impressed me too. The kimchi had the perfect crunch and might be some of the best I've had. The fish cakes and scallions were also on point. The space is small but great for lunch or a casual dinner. Service was friendly, restrooms were clean, and overall it was a great experience. I'll definitely be back.

They were tender and well seasoned with the exact right heat level for me. Service was adequate. Overall, a pretty good experience, but not a big standout. Prices are typical for Korean food which is never cheap, but reasonable for what it is. Portion size is large, though, so you could get away with ordering less than they recommended .

My wife and I had dinner here last night. It was a bit tough to find parking as the plaza is pretty small but busy. The restaurant is casual but clean. The service was good. The good was generally good (see below). The side dishes were a disappointment (especially the kimchi). We had: Broiled Spicy Beef Rib (Galbijim) - (5/5) - Very flavorful. Good quality beef with good mix of squash and vegetables. The sauce is very good. My wife had this dish better and said it was too spicy so we asked for it a bit milder. Even with this, it still had a kick. Very good dish. Tteokbokgi (spicy rice cakes) - (4/5) - Good version of this traditional Korean dish. Sauce was yummy, but a bit too watery. Bibimnangmyun (spicy noodles) - (2.5/5) - The miss of the night. The noodles had a weird aftertaste (kind of smelled a bit like paint to me). My wife said they did a poor job rinsing the noodles. I would not order this again. There are other things I want to try on the menu so will likely be back. I do wish the banchan (side dishes) were better.

The assorted ingredients in the pot are glass noodles, pumpkin, mushrooms, rice cakes, carrots, and green onions all soaked up the broth, making every bite satisfying. The sauce was flavorful but a bit on the thicker side. The bossam (pork belly) is always a winner here. It's soft, savory, and perfect with the dipping sauces, fresh garlic, and jalapeño. Stopped by Yuk Dae Jang in Houston for dinner with friends, and it's now high up on our list for Korean food. We ordered the ox soup, and it came out bubbling hot with tender slices of meat glass noodles, and veggies exactly what I was craving. The flavor was rich and comforting without being too salty. The bossam was flavorful and paired really well with all the sides given. We also tried a few side dishes, and everything tasted fresh, especially the kimchi. The service was quick and friendly, and the restaurant was clean and cozy. The portions were generous, and we all left full and happy. Only reason it's not a full 5 stars is that the spice level could've been a bit bolder, but overall, it's a great go-to for hearty Korean comfort food!
I am glad that I tried Yukdaejang last night. I never thought I would come here since it opened in July 2023. To be honest, it's very pricey for me. By reading the meaning of Yukdaejang on its website, it supposedly has more meat dishes, particularly premium meats. I don't seek out pork dishes. Therefore, I skipped that section. I looked at the menu. It was divided into 3 sections: mild on the left, spicy in the middle and pricey dishes with meats only on the right. The waiter warned me about the spicy noodle soups Yukdaejang being SPICY and he had that expression spoke with volumes. I asked a waitress about the difference of ox bone broth and SulLung Tang on the hidden menu (not sure why it's a separate menu). She didn't give me a straight answer. Ok whatever. I don't want to come back to try ox bone soup. My Beef Brisket SulLung Tang with Glass Noodle 양지설렁탕 came so quickly. I barely finished reading 3rd Yelp reviews. I didn't care for the bunchans because I don't like any of them. The kimchi was too salty and sour. The fishcake was hard to chew. The third one was green chives with liquid smoke, salt, sugar, shoyu and something. It tasted awful. I rather have just pickled onions. The soup was bland. There was no salt shaker nearby. The presentation was lacking and looks unappealing. I drove by Royal Buffet and thought that might be a too late to catch fresher food refill. Then, I thought about turning around to Jang Choong Dong but again, I don't want to waste gas. In reality, Yukdaejang has bigger soup bowl than JangChoongDong and they have purple rice. Overall, I am glad that I tried. Not coming back.
I was craving some Korean food, especially some kalbijim because I was thinking of Daeho and wanted desperately to find something in Houston like it. I found Yuk Dae Jang and decided to order a kalbijim to-go! First off, Daeho serves theirs on a sizzling hot stone bowl, obviously you can't do that for a to-go order. Their portion was decently sized but a bit expensive for what you get, at close to $100 for this one dish after tax and tip! The sauce is alright but not caramelized like I wanted to see and the meat was tough.. I was looking for melt in your mouth, caramelized, fall off the bone beef ribs! This was not that. Even though it filled us up nicely, it just didn't live up to par. The dish also contained white radishes, pumpkin, rice cakes, onions and carrots!
Premium Pork Belly (Small) - Absolutely delicious! It paired perfectly with all the sides, and the bossam was incredibly tender. 9/10 Sul Lung Tang - Perfect for a chilly day! The flavors were comforting, though it could use a bit more seasoning. Still, I really enjoyed it. 8/10 Banchan - Tasty, but I wish there was more variety. 7/10 Service - The staff was friendly and very attentive! 10/10
Went here with my family for lunch on the weekend. The restaurant is tucked away behind all the major plazas in Bellaire. The parking lot is kind of small, but I was still able to find parking pretty easily. '' The portion size for most of the entrees here is meant to serve about 2-3 people, so plan accordingly with your group. We got the Bossam, Army Stew, and the Bulgogi with glass noodles, and this was more than enough for my small group. I like that they bring up a portable burner to place the food on because it will keep the food warm or hot during the entire meal. It does take up more room on the table, but I rather have my food nice and hot while eating. The Bossam was very tender. I ate it with purple rice or wrapped it up in lettuce with some kimchi and sauce. The Army soup was great, with tons of toppings in it because of the noodles, because it can become very soggy staying in the broth for so long. The Bulgogi had a nice flavor, and it was my first time having it with the glass noodles, which I have seen more of before but never had it together. Service was good. They checked up on us and brought out more water for us as needed.
Visited the Houston location and ended up liking the Bossam (boiled pork) even more than the famous beef soup. The Bossam was surprisingly flavorful. It's not plain boiled pork -- the meat was tender but still had structure, with a subtle braised aroma. The fat wasn't greasy and the lean parts weren't dry. Paired with the pickled plum and fresh cabbage, it felt balanced and clean rather than heavy. Definitely one of the better Bossam dishes I've had in Houston. The spicy beef soup (yukgaejang) was also solid. What I appreciated most was that the beef didn't have any gamey or bloody taste, which can sometimes happen with beef soups. The texture actually reminded me of the quality of beef short ribs I usually buy at Whole Foods -- tender and clean. I also liked that they used kabocha squash instead of potatoes in the stew. We also tried the pork cutlet. The portion was very generous. Flavor-wise it was decent and straightforward -- probably a safe choice for kids or anyone who prefers milder dishes. They offer a lunch combo from 11am-3pm where you can add a small portion of Bossam or dumplings to your main dish. Considering the portion size and quality, it feels like a good value during lunch hours. Overall, this Houston location feels like a dependable spot if you're craving Korean comfort food, especially hot soups or Bossam.

This restaurant has such a chill, cozy vibe for the food it provides. There is an abundance of different comforting soups to choose from and their Korean banchan are really good and authentic. Service was quick and attentive, I came for lunch alone and tried a few items and it was a lot of food but the foodie in me was super satisfied after and would definitely come back. I even got a gallon of their kimchi to go! read more
A cozy restaurant in a small strip mall, Yuk Dae Jang offers food options unlike many Korean restaurants. I chose this restaurant specifically to try their cold noodles, as I had fond memory of trying the cold noodles when I was at South Korea. I had the Brisket Cold Soup Buck Wheat Noodle, which was slightly bland. It didn't have the refreshing taste I was looking for too, thus I was disappointed. I also had the Spicy Baby Octopus and Vegetable Mandu, which I couldn't taste any spiciness at all. Service staff were helpful and attentive. Went to Yuk Dae Jang and got super lucky because they were hosting a collab with Morii coffee, so we got a discount on our meal. Got the seollangtang, bulgogi, and bossam. The bossam was delicious, plentiful with a good mix of sides. The bulgogi was sweet and a large portion. The seollangtang tasted a little strange to me but was full of meat and noodles. Service was quick and the restaurant was quiet, but played kpop over the speakers. It was a good place to chat. I remember liking their galbijjim the last time I was here. Overall, great place for classic Korean food that can be hard to find elsewhere! read more

Highly recommended! The large chunks of beef are incredibly tender, and the side dishes include pumpkin, potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, rice cakes, and glass noodles. Everything is very flavorful. Good service, employees are very friendly! read more
This is probably my fourth visit here, and this place consistently delivers great flavors! My friend and I came for lunch and noticed they had a special lunch menu. We ordered the Yuk Gae Jang with pasta and a mini Bossam. While the Bossam was a bit dry, it still tasted good. The Yuk Gae Jang with pasta was delicious and flavorful with just the right amount of spice. The portion was definitely enough for two. What really sets this place apart, though, are the unlimited side dishes. Their green onion kimchi is one of my favorites, it's perfectly light and incredibly addictive! The restaurant's interior is cozy, and our server was very friendly, making the overall experience even better. read more

This was my first time trying Korean soup and it was absolutely worth it! I ordered The original Yuk Dae Jung spicy which has beef brisket pieces and glass noodle. It was very flavorful and needed no extra seasoning or anything! It comes with complimentary vinegarette salad, tofu pickle kind of a thing, and kimchi. Must try this place if you like Asian food. Very good for price too! 10/10 read more

Absolutely love this place for their Korean braised short ribs and the Yukdaejang soup w ramen. It is pricy but well worth for the flavor or portion size overall. Service is always fast and nice with casual ambiance. Kpop is always playing in the back group and kpop mv playing on the screens. They do have lunch specials with their bossam and soups! read more

It's always great to see another new Korean restaurant open up in Chinatown! The inside of Yuk Dae Jang is modern and sleek. The menu has plenty of food options that all look delicious. We ordered the army stew with Ramyun, the original yukdaejang ramyun and a side of pork dumplings. The army stew was enough for the 3 of us (plus two kids). The stew was overflowing with sausage, spam, tofu, enoki mushrooms and ramen. It was the perfect balance of savory and spiciness. The original yumdaujang ramen had a great flavor and just a hint of spiciness. The homemade ramen noodles were chewy with a nice bite. The dumplings were okay but probably my least liked dish. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only downfalls were the bon chan and the price. The bon chan given were kimchi, a salad and tofu skin - all really delicious with free refills but I wish they had more options! The dishes were a bit pricey, the army stew was $45, the ramen was $18 and the dumplings were $11. Maybe that's just the price of food now, but our bill after tip ended being $100. I definitely would come back for the ramen though, even with the steep prices! read more

This was my first time here and we were excited to try the pork belly and yuk gae jang. We were the only ones in the restaurant Sunday afternoon, so they were very attentive to us. The pork belly was unique as it was put on this steamer. They gave us some lettuce wraps and sauce to dip it in. It was pretty good and a unique way of having pork belly but it wasn't anything that really stood out to me in terms of flavor. The yuk gae jang was the star of the show in my opinion! We got it with soon tofu, and it was a very flavorful and a delicious soup, similar to tofu soup but I thought it tasted even better! It was also a huge portion, so definitely shareable. Between 2 people, we had leftovers of the pork belly and soup. We also got a bunch of side dishes like kimchi, fish cake that were yummy as well. I would definitely come back for the yum gae jang and bring more people so I could try some of their bigger dishes as well! read more

The stone pot was still boiling when it was served, and the aroma was fragrant. The pot was filled with beef short ribs, pumpkin, potatoes, onions, carrots, vermicelli and other ingredients. The portion was so large that two people could not finish it. The beef is braised until it is soft, tender and tasty, with just the right amount of fat. The tendons are chewy and not dry, and the soup is just the right amount of salty and sweet. It is perfect to go with rice, and you can choose the level of spiciness. If you can eat spicy food, you can choose a spicier one, which will go better with rice! Tastes better read more

Great sort of lowkey place! My family and I were wanting to try a Korean restaurant that we hadn't tried before, and stumbled upon this place. It's a very casual restaurant that is easy to find. There are plenty of tables, and I would say this place is good for a large group. We saw lots of groups there who did family-style with the dishes. The portions of the dishes are VERY big, so I highly recommend sharing them. We tried: -seafood premium YukGaeJang with noodle -original YukGaeJang with soft tofu -premium bossam boiled in various herbs (size Small) -beef brisket SulLung Tang with glass noodle To be honest, this was very filling for the 4 of us, and we actually couldn't finish it all. All of these dishes that we tried were really good, but my favorites that stood out to me were the "original YukGae Jang with soft tofu" and "premium bossam boiled in various herbs." I would absolutely get those dishes again. I would also like to try out other dishes too. We also each got a bowl of purple rice and banchan. The service was fantastic and fast. read more

Super excited to have a restaurant dedicated to my favorite Korean dish, yukejang, which is a spicy beef soup with shredded beef and noodles. I'm pretty surprised they decided to open in Chinatown and not Ktown but definitely not complaining. The menu is pretty simple and there are different combinations you can order. Things that I've tried: -Seafood yukaejang with fresh pasta is my favorite. So good. We tried two different beef stews and they were great. The ramen was overcooked though, likely because the stew is so hot that the noodles keep cooking so undercooking them a bit would be better because the stew continues to cook them. Service was great. The inside is pretty. The purple rice is really good too. I'd come back and try others. read more

We stopped by this spot for a Sunday lunch and our server was so accompanying and friendly! The decor was very modern and it was very clean. I got the Original Yuk Gae Jang with custommade ramyun, my bf got the Original Yuk Gae Jang with glass noodle, and we got the kimchi and pork mandu to share. The portions were so huge and I definitely had leftovers, but the broth was really flavorful and delicious with the brisket and noodles. The mandu was also really yummy! A shop that focuses on its eponymous dish? As a soup man, hell yes! Typically you only get one choice when ordering yukgaejang elsewhere. Here? You can order 5 kinds. Plus there some other classics: seolleongtang, naengmyeon, bossam. The portions are huge! It's a lot of stew for the price. Slightly on the salty side. Oh, they have purple rice too! Banchan is decent. One thing that bummed me out though was the yukgaejang didn't have the taro stems that is basically in every yukgaejang I've ever had, including the one sold in Costco. Finally getting to try kalguksu and im obsessed!! Everything about this dish was so good and the broth was flavorful! I always go to the restaurant next door hut figured i should finally give this place a try and im so glad i did! I love this place! Yes, I am Vietnamese, and Korean foods have always been either very sweet, or just spicy and bland for my taste. I have never had Korean foods that offer lots of meat and so flavorful like Vietnamese foods before. I love that they offer many different kinds of noodles or protein with their yukgaejang, and it's the most delicious yukgaejang I've ever had! My fav is the braised beef ribs, but it is a huge portion, enough for 4 people, it's very flavorful, smells amazing, kinda reminds me of the Vietnamese braised pork belly dish that we have. It's loaded with boneless beef ribs!! The bulgogi glass noodles was also very flavorful and good and also loaded with meat. If u have been to Korean restaurants, they barely have any noodles or rice dishes with meat in them. Most of the time, it's just a little bit of ground meat in the noodle soups, or a small spoon size of bulgogi in bibimbap. It is HARD to find any Korean restaurants that actually give u plenty of meat in their dishes. (And no, I don't mean Korean bbq, which is where u can get unlimited meat) and on top of that, their food is soooo flavorful, and it's not just flavored with sweet gochujang or bland sesame oil and salt. I can't wait to go back on a warm day to try their cold noodles and bossam and katsu and many many other dishes that looks so yummy read more
Ugh this spot never fails to satisfy my Korean comfort food craving. Very clean dine area and nice fast service. Plenty of seatings, and you can tell by how good the restaurant is by how tasty their banchans (side dishes, especially kimichi) are. My go to order when going with friends and family is the beef rib pot. They will cut the meat for you after bringing it to the table. You can choose less spicy, regular, and spicy. I like regular spicy, because I sweat from the spiciest level, so be aware. The pot is filled with mushrooms, tteoboki, and glass noodles, definitely worth. For soup, I love the standard shredded beef one, just very soothing on the cold day. The fish soup is little bland but it's healthy definitely. This is a must place on a cold day! read more
I love this place!! I went today when they still had their soft opening (tomorrow is Grand Opening!) but there was still a lot of people!! The restaurant gets packed very quickly so go early if you want a table. The decor is very modern and neat, but it's a little bit small and the location is quite hidden. We came right at 11am when they open and the waitress was SUPER NICE!! She gave us recommendations and showed us how to eat the food as well. We ordered the "Original Yuk Gae Jang w/ glass noodles" and the "Premium Bossam Boiled in various herbs." The soup broth is sooooo good it's very savory and not sour at all. It also comes with pulled pork and the pulled pork just falls apart. The soup came with rice and side dishes. The kimchi is definitely homemade since it has its own unique sourness. I love the fishcake! It's sweet and it goes very well with the glass noodles. The pork belly dish was sooo tender. I ordered the small side but they still give you a lot. Definitely need more vegetables for this dish though! I didn't order the hotpot version of the soup bowl because I wanted to try more things out since the hotpot is very big, but at the end I still have a lot of leftovers to take home! Definitely will be back!! Update: I came back and ordered the same soup with extra spicy, it was sooooo yummy and had more flavors than just normal spice. It is spicy tho so be careful! read more

The non-Korean waiter and waitress checked up on us a bunch of times to make sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our meals. +The soups were full of authentic, traditional flavors. +The bossom meat wasn't too overcooked or dry. +They offer white rice or purple (japgokbap) rice. +They don't charge extra for additional bowls of rice like other places; i.e., Honey Pig Korean BBQ ($3.00 per bowl). -The banchan side dishes left a lot to be desired, but the entrees made up for it. -The three adults in our party were very sleepy afterwards and thirsty for the rest of the night, which leads us to believe this establishment uses monosodium glutamate. -The sodium levels were pretty high in all of the dishes. -The prices are pretty steep compared to traditional Korean restaurants. They do automatic 18% gratuity for parties of 5 or more, and they tack on $0.50-$2.00 for different spicy levels and sauces. What we ordered: '1 Beef Brisket SulLungTang $15.50 '1 Original YukGaeJang with Glass Noodle $16.50 '1 Hand Crafted Steamed Mandu (Pork & Chive) $11.50 '1 Premium Bossam Boiled in Various Herbs (Medium Platter) $43.50 Total: $109.84 post tax and automatic 18% tip Overall, we will return to try other dishes and give this regional chain specializing in Korean beef-based soups patronage, since there aren't that many good Korean restaurants in the Greater Houston area. Sad to say I was disappointed as a Bossam fan and disappointed myself with high expectations. The bossam had weird rubber like texture for the skin. They served raw cabbage. I was confused why the large portion is on a grill and the small is just on a plate. The cold noodles - Mul-naengmyeon was ok... I did not care for the shredded meat. I know they were busy because it's still new. But it was incomplete setup. No scissors, vinegar, mustard that comes with it. We had to flag the friendly server down a few times. We order the kids sullungtang it was overwhelming with the shredded beef. My child enjoyed it but wish we had more broth and glass noodles. There are two rice options white or purple. read more

Finally got to try this place and it was super yummy. They fill the bowl up and it's super filling. We also got the bossam which comes with a lot of sides and dips and it was super delicious. I love the amount of banchan they give and the service here is great. read more
I came across this place after various food enthusiasts mentioned about this place so I decided to try this place out. Upon arrival and being seated, the waiter was very nice and answered any questions that I had. I tried their mushroom soup along with the pork belly in various herbs. The mushroom soup was very bland and did not have any flavor. They gave us a can of salt and pepper to add more flavoring in it. The pork belly was good but the skin was really chewy and was not edible. That was very disappointing as the skin is normally the best part on a pork belly. read more

Honestly i was so excited to try yuk dae jang and had very high hopes, unfortunately the food just didn't meet my expectations. My party ordered the brisket spicy cold bimbim noodles, original yukgaejang with soft tofu, beef brisket sullangtang with glass noodles, and the premium bossam. My favorite dish was probably the sullangtang, however overall the entire meal had pretty muted flavors and did not compare well to surrounding korean restaurants. The bossam was also good, but I have had better. I must say our waiters were very friendly and came by to chat with us several times! read more
