Splash Oil Noodles were amazing!! Keep it spicy and I would say to not get it with a meat. The meat has no flavor, however it gets some with the soup that comes with the noodles but not worth getting it in my opinion. The Green Onion Pancakes and Chinese Hamburger are also must haves. The hamburger especially! The meat in it is very flavorful and it has the taste profile of pho somehow if that makes sense. Either way, the burger is juicy and my favorite item so far aside from the noodles. When you get inside, you have to order first and then find a place to sit. You order at the cash register and the menu has quite a large selection of dumplings and buns. You seat yourself and there is a station with cups, a water dispenser, plates and chopsticks. The liangpi is the reason I come to this restaurant. The noodles have an amazing texture and it pairs perfectly with the bean sprouts, cucumber and cilantro. The sesame sauce brings everything together and it's amazingly refreshing and hearty at the same time. The pork leek dumplings have a delicious filling and the wrapper is very clearly handmade with a delicate chew. The pan fried buns were also quite yummy with a golden crispy bottom and fluffy exterior. My diagnosis: come here for the best liangpi and well made dumplings and buns read more

Their advertisement pictures on the store front's glass got me drooling so I wanted to check it out with my boyfriend, also I'm a huge fan of northern chinese food because it's my mom's hometown. The got nice wall art too, depicting the popular dishes from the north so I had my expectation and hopes up. Service is ordinary, she speaks little English but can get by ordering, we order first at the counter the sit anywhere. Braised egg is 2 for $3.50, salty but expected since it's marinated. Came out steaming hot, and yolk was not overly cooked and dry, not bad. Starting with the Chinese hamburger I felt sad and know not to expect too much from the other dishes we ordered. First the meat look different than what others have posted before, and it was kinda dry and too salty to eat. There was no other spice, only the meat juice flavor. The bun they use was stale to eat. Traditional way of making this should be the flaky oily pancake, or at least make the buns softer to eat. The mutton stew was clear and very heartwarming to drink on a cold day. But the portion is super small for the price. The glass noodles were gone in literally two bites. I had none to share with my boyfriend. This dish come with the burger bun too that you can soak them in the soup so I guess this is the extra carb make up for the less noodles. Oil splash noodle is their specialty? It was good but didn't wowed me. Noodles are chewy and well cooked, came with lots of bean sprouts. The sauce is flavorful and actually not too oily which I enjoyed more. We were told the dumplings and noodles are made fresh, so we had to try. Dropped in on Sunday around 6 PM and was directed to order at the counter. I noted that the servers are shy, speaks limited English so lots of pointing on the menu to order our food. We grabbed our own water and utensils, then sat down to wait for our food to be served. The pork and preserved egg congee came first, about 7 mins after ordering. It was a nice portion for $3.50. It was too watery for me, prefer my congee thicker but it was very flavorful! The stewed pig feet arrived next, not as tender as I would like but still good. Ate half and took the other half home to heat up in a soup to make it a little more tender. Beef noodle soup was yummy, traditional northern Chinese soup. Full of tender beef chunks, bok choy, and you can tastes the quality of the noodles. Soup was seasoned just right. $9.99 for this bowl was not a bad deal. The pork cabbage dumplings came last, about 20 mins after ordering, I'm sure due to the time it took to prepare them fresh. They were delicious, tasted almost like soup dumplings as the flavors burst in every bite. The dumpling wrap was the perfect consistency, not too thick or thin. This was my favorite dish ordered here. The restaurant is dated but very clean. I noted several take out orders while dining there. They have a nice selection of comfort food. Wow!!! The noodles here are some of the best I've ever had. They are hand pulled, thick, chewy. The oil splashed noodles are incredible--not only are the noodles excellent, the flavor is rich and addictive with umami and subtle spice. We also loved the pork and leek dumplings and Chinese breakfast items (sweet soy bean milk, deep fried dough). Don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu--homey, authentic Chinese food. I absolutely love Northern Pasta. I'm a big fan of large, thick, and chewy noodles and they do it the best here. It took me a while to find good biang biang noodles in Houston, but I'm so glad I found this spot. When you walk in, go to the back counter to order. Just a heads up they speak mainly Chinese with limited English, so I got around it by pointing at the menu. Also, it's cash only for orders under $10. They will then give you a number tent and bring you your order at your table. They actually offer a lot on the menu, but I haven't gotten around to trying dishes other than the oil splashed noodles and dumplings. For the Oil Splashed Noodles, you have the option to add beef for an additional $3, so in total it comes out to $12 a bowl. They come in a generous portion - I always have extras to take home. The noodles are perfectly bouncy and chewy and makes you go nonverbal from how great it is. The bowl also includes sliced beef if you added it, baby bok choy, lots of bean sprouts, and a soy sauce/vinegar sauce that pools at the bottom. An absolute S Tier dish. For vibes - it's pretty quiet as there's no music, and all the patrons spoke Chinese. And interaction with staff is pretty minimal; they don't check up on you and it's mainly self serve. My only gripe is their large use of disposable plastic utensils and styrofoam dish ware at the self serve station. There are a lot of people getting takeout and sometimes the person working the cash register is taking dine in orders at the same time that people are paying for their takeout which feels a little chaotic. But the food is great and price is very reasonable. Chinese hamburger or 肉夹馍 is very tasty, the "bun" isn't too tough and the pork has the option of being spicy. The meat is very filling and it's very flavorful. The noodles are great! Lamb noodle soup definitely reminded me of lamb that I ate in Xi An- slightly gamey but not in an overwhelming way, tender with a flavorful broth to at wasn't overly salty. I came here since I was in the area and craving savory tofu. Unfortunately when I went they were out of tofu, but I made due with what they had. Their spicy noodles in oil were so freakin delicious. It's a lot of noodles so I definitely think it's shareable and a great value for the price. Their cucumber were okay. Everytime I'm back in town, I make sure that I don't leave without dropping by. This spot is my favorite for a great, classic Chinese breakfast (sometimes eaten at lunch cause your girl is catching up on sleep debt). The service is great, you're really taken care of, and they're super fast. You walk in and you order at the counter. They make everything from scratch. You can tell because of their frozen dumplings displayed and labeled in bags if you'd like to buy to make at home yourself, and then a case of their buns and other goods on the side. Self service water and grab whatever else you may need from the side. My go-to is always their savory tofu soup, fried donut stick, Chinese hamburger, and beef and onion dumplings. Chef's kiss- add some chili oil at your table and some black vinegar? Yep, that's the way to go. Super affordable price point, you won't leave disappointed. We order their other dishes as well, great for any time of day- especially their hand made noodles and lamb soup. It feels weird typing the names out in English- an ABC here (those who know, know). I came here to try some hand pulled noodles and dumplings, but I've had better experiences at Loves Dumpling House and Xiaolong Dumpling for noodles and service, not to mention cleanliness. The noodles were great--very chewy. The seasoning was flavorful, but we added beef and the meat itself was just okay. I would have preferred it meatless in the end. We also had the dumplings with fennel, as that sounded different from what I've tried elsewhere. I didn't realize until afterwards that "fennel" meant dill fronds and not actually fennel, so it appears to be a misnomer. The dill flavor was very overpowering and didn't pair with the rest of the filling as well as an oniony flavor, such as chives. So I wouldn't recommend those. Lastly, we tried a beef and onion bun and a pork bun, which were both good. One of the biggest turnoffs was the cleanliness. The tables were grimy and had old food glued to the sides of them. It looks like the whole place could use a deep cleaning. One last note--the lady working there wasn't the friendliest. I feel like she tolerated my questions and she also ignored me at one point to help other people who showed up in line after me. A bit disappointing. I'm not sure I'd return. read more

The service by contrast deserves a one. Staff is inattentive at best, particularly if you are not fluent in Mandarin. I was ignored when trying to order. They did not bring bowls or plates with which to eat the food. There was no obvious way to get any water and they were grumpy when, after I found a cooler filled with cokes, I wanted to pay for them with a credit card , even though it already paid for the meal using that same credit card. to us. We got 2 different types of dumplings and our favorite was the potato and leek. We also got an order of the buns. The buns were steaming hot and so good, I think it liked it better than the dumplings. Our dark horse fave was the fried pancake though. There's very little scallion or filling, and the pancake was super crispy, but we couldn't stop munching on it. I really enjoyed the one dish I didn't take a picture of - the chili oil noodles. 10/10 - the noodles tasted homemade and the chili oil was was addicting. Even if you hate spicy things, order this. The oil had this unique, vinegary, sweet, tangy, spice to it. The meat in the buns had this hearty stew soup taste. You can tell they made the buns by hand - made with love though I personally wished the meat was more spread out on the inside instead of being in a ball. The sesame paste noodles were aight'. My mom has always been a big fan of this place and insisted that I tag along this time. As much as I trust her judgement in Chinese cuisine, I hesitated a bit since she tends to prefer carb-loaded, mild-flavored dishes over my preference for protein-packed, savory dishes. She ordered her favorite for us to share, the liangpi (凉皮 or "cold noodles"), and it was indeed carb loaded but tasted more flavorful than I expected. It looks plain at first, but the bottom of the bowl contains peanut butter sauce that is waiting to be mixed. Additionally, I added chili oil which added a nice kick. If you're like me and can't stomach the thought (no pun intended... I think?) of eating a dish of only carbs, share it with a friend so you can feel less guilty while still experiencing some Northern Chinese staples. Today I felt inspired to make a trip out again and this was through a recommendation of the Houston Chinatown food group on Facebook. I thought why not give another new opportunity a try? This lead me to visiting Northern Pasta. I would say I came in with an open mind to what the restaurant offer. But I something I appreciated is the feel of being in a noodle and dumpling house. Just a straightforward vibe and the menu for me had solid staples. I went on a curiosity take and went with something I seen on the mural on the wall. I picked the mutton noodle and had to try the Chinese burger and a pork cabbage bun. The Chinese burger was filled nicely with just the right amount of meat, scallions and onions. I would say it would be a nice quick on the go. Two would be good for a meal. The pork cabbage bun first bite, steaming and retained the juice from the pork. What was a surprise for me was the mutton noodle. I think it is good etiquette before indulging into any soup you have to try the broth. I took a sip and thought to myself, "this is going to be good." It is aromatic, light in flavor and the noodles were a great compliment to the mutton. There is a nice balance just like a similarity how Vietnamese Phõ is constructed. Overall I enjoyed it. I visited during a time where there were a few people dining in but got a bit busier when I left. I am pleasantly impressed and I could eat the mutton noodle every time without any complaints. Now one thing that could maybe dissuade people for ordering it is the taste if somebody is not used to that flavor. It doesn't bother me and would say lamb would be more a potent profile. This restaurant is a hidden gem in the Jusgo Supermarket Center off Bellaire. I've been here a handful of times and the food has been delightful every time. Let's start with the food. My go-to is the Liangpi (Cold Noodle). I know cold noodles sounds a bit weird, but believe me, it's delicious. Their dumplings are also really good (not as good as San Dong, but close). Try the Leek Pork Dumplings, and make sure to use the chili oil sauce provided at the table. I've tried the Chinese Hamburger, and it wasn't my favorite. (I'll just stick with a normal American cheeseburger, thank you. The Chinese hamburger is nothing like a normal hamburger.) Overall, the food quality is great. The service is fine. Nothing special. Most of the staff only speak Chinese (and I'm not Chinese) so at least you know it's authentic Chinese food. You can simply order by pointing at the menu, but if you have any special requests or want the food your way (like Burger King), good luck. Lastly, the ambiance is OK. It feels relatively clean, has never been crowded when I went (at least during lunch time), and there are actually some nice large Chinese paintings on the walls. I hope you'll give this place a try! You pick up the menu at the counter, order and pay up front. The menu is in Chinese but has English subtitles. We ordered the Oil Splashed Noodle with the optional beef, and the Beef Noodle. Prices were very reasonable and portions were big. The Oil Splashed Noodle were very flavorful (5/5) and not too spicy - I would definitely get them again. However, I would pass on the beef - it appears to be cold cuts of beef shank with tendon. Some folks might like it but it's not my thing. The Beef Noodle had hearty-tasting soup, but the noodle had an alkaline taste - we probably won't get it again (2/5). We saw someone else had the pan-fried bun. After hearing many amazing things about this place, I had to come try it myself. Located in the heart of Chinatown, if you are too full afterwards it's quite convenient to take a stroll in the grocery store that's in the same plaza and run errands. I ordered the popular oil-splashed noodles, which were very tasty. My only critique would be that there was a bit too much oil for my stomach to handle, and it left a bit of a stomachache afterward when it all settled down. After all the dish is titled oil-splashed noodles, not oil-soaked noodles. All in all the flavor including the chili oil was excellent, and it was well portioned and at a very reasonable price. Not as spicy as I would have expected, but there's vinegar, soy sauce and chili crisp on the table to adjust the flavor yourself. Liangpi noodles are quite slurpable but the cold noodle dish might be a bit strange to some. Chinese hamburger was chopped pork and some cilantro on a bing that was a little dry but grab some chili oil to cut through the hefty pork. The texture of the noodle was just perfect, the seasoning with chili pepper and oil (it's got a kick but not overly spicy) and vinegar...man, that took me back to that same hole in the wall joint down a dark alley in the parts of Beijing tourist don't normally venture...and it was sublime. Speaking of hole in the wall, that's this place in all the best ways. Unpretentious, order at the counter, get served up reasonably priced but excellent quality food whenever it is ready. Nice mom and pop family shop. I think I saw this thanks to Houstonsgotspice posting on IG. Came for the noodles which definitely had great flavour and just a light heat. Also got myself a beef and onion bun and Chinese hamburger. The hamburger had nice soft shredded meat. My favourite was still the noodles- even being meatless. read more
