Gyoza, #2 SHO-YU (Tonkotsu), Kizami Sweet & Sour Yodas
Rachel O.

We had take out and I was really impressed. The broth was flavorful toppings delicious. As with most ramen places I hate the ridiculous up charges if you want to modify so we didn't but I would have liked a little more diversity. We did try the Yuzo Kosho Bomb which was tasty on its own but got lost in the ramen. I'm not sure I would have noticed it if it was premixed in. We were supposed to get the Korokkaaaayyy but instead they gave us the Gyoza. Not the worst mistake because they were really tasty as well as the sauce. I really wanted to try the correct item, but luckily I want to go back and maybe I'll have better luck. Do not skip the brussel sprouts. I thought they were absolutely wonderful, I'd go back for those along. Not your cheapest ramen experience overall but I was very happy with what we got.

Ramen Tatsu-ya is tucked off of westheimer road with a dedicated free parking lot. You order at the counter and they will bring your food to your table. It is open seating, and I like the large wooden booths. These booths have outlets so I can charge my laptop and work if needed. They have a nice variety of ramens. I have tried both the Shoyu and Miso broths. They are great flavor profiles and you can't go wrong with either. I love the char on their chatsu. You must do an egg- it also has amazing flavor and is cooked perfectly. I also tried the chili oil gyoza, which are refreshing and not too spicy. I think a Kiran draft beer pairs perfectly with a bowl of ramen. I can easily spend 35+ dollars here, which isn't my favorite. Regardless, I'll definitely be back on another colder Houston day.

I was so excited when I saw this place open, because it's my favorite ramen restaurant in Austin!! I got the misohot and the og. The ramen is good but not as good as the ones from Austin. I think the flavor is a bit lacking especially in the meat. Other than food, the place is very clean and spacious. And the service is pretty good, food comes out pretty quickly too.

#4 MI-SO-HOT (Tonkotsu)

This spot in Montrose is beautifully decorated, inviting and stylish, and exactly the kind of place you want to sit down for a comforting bowl of ramen. The area is great, and the ambiance definitely sets the mood for a good meal. My husband ordered the #6 OL SKOOL assari, and the broth had a really nice smoky flavor. The noodles were solid, and the one piece of chashu he did get was delicious... just one. For a ramen bowl, that felt a little too minimal. There were also a lot of scallions (more than needed) which started to overpower the bowl. I ordered the #4 MI-SO-HOT tonkotsu, and the broth was creamy, spicy, and super flavorful. The noodles were thinner but still very good. My only issue was the pork. The menu lists "goma pork," which sounds like a sesame‑marinated pork topping. Instead, it turned out to be ground pork, and the bowl leaned greasy because of it. The menu does explain this in the toppings section, but not clearly in the ramen description itself, so it feels a bit misleading if you're expecting sliced or shredded pork like most tonkotsu or miso bowls. Overall, both broths were genuinely tasty and well‑seasoned. But if you're expecting a more meaty ramen experience, this might not be the place. It's not even about wanting a ton of meat, just that the portions were small, and in my case, the protein wasn't what the name suggested. Great flavors, beautiful space, but the protein descriptions could be clearer and more generous.

My boyfriend and I are on a big ramen kick right now, and we were Montrose, and decided to try this place out! We came around 6pm on a chilly Saturday night and there was already somewhat of a line, but by 7pm the line was out the door. We both got the OG ramen, but I got the chili spice bomb and he got one with yuzu. We liked both, but we preferred the chili spice bomb, as the yuzu had a little too much garlic for our taste. We also got the chili oil gyzoka app and another one as well, they were both so yum. The broth, pork, and egg were all very flavorful. We are honoring Dry January and there were many drink options for us to choose from. The staff were attentive and helpful to me in my first visit here. We very much enjoyed our meal!

First time back in over two years and this place hasn't changed - good vibes and decent ramen. Service was solid too. I got the OG with a spicy bomb and was maybe slightly above average. Overall I would recommend this place! Cons: Parking in the area is crazy and the restaurant's AC was struggling in this heat.

#8 NU SKOOL (Vegan)
Sophanny S.

A great place to catch up with a friend. The vibe is really nice inside. I like all the art work. The staff were very friendly with our order. The food was good/average. I got the Nu Skool (vegan), with the yuzu kosho bomb, and added toppings ajitama (boiled egg) and extra garlic self pressed.

We got the OG and Miso hot Ramen. The OG was quite plain and flavorless with very few toppings. The miso hot was better but was average ramen that I don't see myself craving in the future. Maybe would have been better with an additional flavor bomb but with the prices I expected better flavors. You order food at a counter and it is brought out to your table so service was not very memorable. The inside is spacious with a few booths and long tables with box seats. Could be worth another visit to try other things but would pass on these items next time.

Perhaps the iconic Lucky Cat (the waving maneki-neko) outside the Houston location of Ramen Tatsu-Ya provided me the great fortune of scoring a bowl of the holy grail Crawmen. I only found out about the crowd favorite Crawmen phenomenon after reading Tiffany T.'s review, in which she raved about it. If you check Ramen Tatsu-Ya's social media, lots of people who have visited Austin and Houston locations chime in about it enthusiastically. I wanted to know more about the founders of the enterprise, so learning about Tatsu Aikawa and Takuya "Tako" Matsumototsu, and the fact that both have worked as DJs around Austin, was really cool. I've seen someone describe Ramen Tatsu-Ya as an izakaya, but I am not sure if the owners would describe it as such. Regarding the Crawmen, it is essentially a crawfish-meets-ramen delight. The broth is so good that you almost wish you had a piece of french bread to dip it in. It is strong on flavor profile and the spice element. On the heat scale, I'd describe it as somewhere between medium and hot. You can get a corn bomb (made of butter and corn) on the side to offset the heat some. The andouille and crawfish practically makes this a Japanese influenced Texas-Louisiana fusion. The bowl of ramen includes scallions, ajitama (egg), ramen noodles, and peppers, with lemon slices on the side. This is such an awesome bowl of ramen, and apparently, this is the last week of the limited edition run for Crawmen. Highly recommended! 5/5

The interior of the place is super cute. Super wooden and Japanese inspired. There is also their mascot in the front for a cute photo op moment. And, I like how they have a lot for parking for cars. However, I do think the lot is kinda small, so be prepare to street park if you aren't lucky. Service was fast and food was out in around 10-15 minutes. It is a self seating restaurant and there is around 40 people worth of seating varying from booths to tables. The only thing that I thought could use improvement was the food. Not sure if is just what I ordered but I have had better ramen in the area. The broth was particularly salty and it lacked any flavor outside soy sauce. Overall, it was okay for the price.

Shoyu ranen Noodles were hard, smaller than spaghetti. My egg was upside-down. I never found the yoke Broth didn't taste like anything
Topher C.

This was just bad Ramen. Noodles were hard, smaller than spaghetti. My egg was upside-down. I never found the yoke Broth didn't taste like anything. Honestly tasted like a mushroom sauce. I come to Austin ever year for a few weeks and this place was on my tops but it's been worse every year. This is probably my last time.

Dipping Ramen. Delicious!

Super hip and trendy ramen spot in Houston! I first heard about them in Austin, but glad I could try the location in Houston. Came on a weekday during lunch, which meant an easy breezy service with not much wait time. I tried the dipping ramen with the corn butter....so good! The dipping broth was intense, with delicious chunks of pork and bamboo shoots. The inclusion of lime wedges to squeeze over the noodles helped to cut the richness of the overall dish. You also get a pretty generous portion size for the price you pay. Overall, excellent spot that I would come back to again :)

Great spot for delicious ramen! First you walk in, the menus are along the side, place your order at the counter and find a seat. They usually have a combo deal of ramen + gyoza+ drink. Great price to try new things! Gyoza is deep fried, which isn't my preferred style of cooking gyoza. I prefer pan fried like japan, but the gyoza it self was delicious. Tasty karaage. Didn't care of the dipping sauce. Ramen was really good. If you didn't order a drink, you can get your own water on the side, plus to-go cups. Kid-friendly as they had boosters and little thing to add to chopsticks to make it easier for little hands to hold chopsticks. Good space, large "communal" style table for big groups. Cute decoration. Clean bathrooms.

Do you guys have tsukemen today?

Tsukemen is available starting 5/8/23 for dine-in guests.

Sorry me again! Can anyone confirm that ramen tatsuya has tsukumen tonight? I've been craving it for awhile and it's out of stock for online order and has been for several weeks. Also does anyone know if you can order takeout in person?

We do not have tsukemen today (11/14). The online menu reflects actually availability so you can keep checking there. You are always welcome to place a takeout order in person during business hours, even if online ordering is not available.

Does anyone know what is happening with Ramen Tatsuya? Have they closed? The number is not working and I am trying to reach them to inquire when they will have more Tsukumen ramen for take-out as it is currently out of stock. Thank you!

They have not closed! As for the number, not sure why it isn't working but I was also having issues before with their number when attempting to call and ask for seating and wait times. Every time I show up (generally towards the night time) they… Read more

Opted for the salmon trio sashimi, tontoro skewers, and one of their new appetizers, the yuzu ageimoono (?). The taro potato balls were delicious, smooth with a nice light crispy shell covered in a salty, light yuzu dressing. The tontoro was delicious, well roasted, not too fatty, and tender. The salmon trio was also great, coming with king salmon, regular salmon, and smoked salmon. To be honest, I could tell there was a difference between the king and regular salmon, but I couldn't really tell which one was which. I also had a bite of my friend's tantanmen, which was basically like the Japanese version of dandan noodles and it was delicious, great nutty flavor with a touch of spice. It has a pretty nice menu. While it is a touch higher in price point, it is pretty reasonable for Houston. The quality is pretty equivalent to what I had in Japan, although as expected, more expensive. Will definitely need to be back to try their other items!

After being seated, I informed the waiter that I would place a to-go order instead. About 20 minutes later, our food was ready. At that point, our daughter woke up, so we hoped to continue dining in as originally planned. I politely asked the waiter if we could finish our meal there. We didn't expect him to continue serving us--we simply wanted to sit and eat the food we had ordered. I had already tipped him on the to-go order. His response was blunt and shocking: "No, you have to leave. The table was given to someone else for a 7:30 reservation." There was no attempt to find a solution or offer an alternative--just a direct order to leave. This was a Thursday night, the restaurant was not busy, and there were outdoor tables and other seating available. We felt incredibly insulted by the attitude. When we spoke to the manager, he simply repeated that the table was reserved and backed up the waiter, without suggesting another table or even asking us to wait for the next available one, until we brought up the point that he could have asked if we have an option to wait for the next table?? Then the manager went ok do you want to have another table just because we asked. What stood out most wasn't the reservation issue, but the complete lack of hospitality, flexibility, or basic courtesy. This experience spoke volumes about the customer service here, and unfortunately, it's the reason we won't be returning.
