One of the best restaurants in the area. Reasonably priced, service is very attentive and the food is so so good. We started with spicy edamame (actually very spicy in a good way) and pork gyoza. Bbq short ribs and bulgogi don for our meal, the main reason we crave this restaurant! Highly recommend family style for all dishes.
Lots of interesting sushi rolls on their menu! I myself tried their spicy toro maki. Pretty good and well priced... our server said it was his favorite roll to order. Good contrast of chewy textures from the rice and fish with the crispy tempura shrimp. Not too overwhelmingly saucy which is a gripe I have with other sushi rolls. The fried Brussel sprouts were cooked well and indeed crispy and savory. I tried a bit of the Osaka Roll and that is a good option as well if you're a fan of torched salmon. Our server was super friendly and checked in on us often. Overall, a solid spot for sushi in this neighborhood.
We have gone here 3 or 4 times now when visiting friends in the area, and are always happy. The hamachi sashimi is fresh and tender, and we also enjoy the spicy tuna and spider rolls. The place itself is bright and clean and service is friendly. It's a solid choice for sushi in the area.
I'm so happy to have found this place down the street from my job! Found it on Google, decided to try it for a birthday lunch for my daughter. I contacted the restaurant ahead of time for a question and the host was so helpful and kind. Upon arriving, the restaurant was very clean and quite; service was prompt and extremely accommodating! It was not very busy, not sure why for a Friday but the food was perfect! Our server, Tom was absolutely the BEST; he made our lunch fun and was still very good at his job! Thank you so much for the great food, the kind staff; we will absolutely be coming back! We tried a variety of items such as the spicy edamame, katsu, the angry bird sushi and the Osaka roll...all very good! Thank you!!
I was in the area and needed to pick up dinner for the family. Sushi is one of every one's favorite so I pulled into the parking lot, made an online order for everyone and went inside to pick up. Food was good, portions are big, and service was fast & professional!!
The service could be a little better but in all wasn't that bad. (the waitress we had was a little bit slow that's all.) The shaggy roll and the La La roll was definitely delicious.
Honestly such a YUM sushi spot! Came here twice for lunch! The staff are so friendly, and the rolls are GORGEOUS and sooo delicious. The inside is beautifully decorated. Don't let the outside strip mall vibe fool you, it's very clean inside, and the food is FRESH! The king salmon nigiri melts in your mouth The Spicy Toro Maki is to die for (reason why I came back the second time) The Viking roll was ALOT like delicious but it was a mouth full I have an idea of what rolls I want to try next! I wasn't expecting the ambiance to look very aesthetic and cozy. Staff was nice and helpful. The food was affordable and had lots of options. I honestly was not expecting a 5 star rating out of me today. Sushi was immaculate and fresh. The rolls we ordered were delicious. My favorite of today were the viking roll my sister ordered. Their basic rolls are tasty too. Definitely will return to try their other menu items like the poke and noodles.
We came here at about 8:45ish on a Friday night, party of 3. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with paper lanterns and it's a very cozy vibe inside. Our waitress Gabby gave some of the best service that I have ever received at a restaurant period. She knew so much about the menu and what she recommended, we ordered and we all enjoyed very much. The food was authentic, delicious, healthy and extremely high quality. We ordered about 5 rolls, 5 appetizers and we each paid about $35 each before tip. I have a sensitive stomach and this place did not make it hurt whatsoever. Everything was so fresh and all of the staff were awesome. Everyone was so satisfied and happy with dinner, we will be back very soon and I'm glad I got to enjoy this experience here.
This was not my first time visiting Izakaya Hi. There's a reason why I keep coming back. The food is always delicious and affordable, the servers are friendly and attentive, and the space is very clean and spacious. They even have karaoke rooms available! It's a great place for tapas and sushi.
Was looking for a sushi spot to try in the area and nothing really came up besides the usual Izakaya Wa (on Boheme). I'm not sure what affiliation (if any) that Izakaya Hi has to that one but it was one of the higher reviewed spots around here. Located on Westheimer is a sleepy looking plaza; there's plenty of parking out front. The interior is very clean and spacious and very empty for lunch service. Immediately it looked like fusion was going to be more out front than the extremely authentic vibe, which is fine. Service was great, our server was very friendly. The menu is huge. Like walls of text and pages of front and back. There's probably over 30 rolls alone, which are somewhat all similar and somewhat all different in one regard or another. There's also Japanese, Korean, robata, and other Japanese diner foods; the menu felt slightly overwhelming. We got brussel sprouts, takoyaki, and some yellowtail sashimi for apps. I was not a fan of their brussel sprouts; they looked great but their sauce was lacking and I expected some kind of a sweet and sour soy based sauce to go with it. The takoyaki lacked the tako part and was 99% batter. The Kewpie mayo was also just a fat line squeeze from the bottle which reminded me a bit of the Halal Guys white sauce experience. The yellowtail sashimi plate had good flavor but the knife work on the hamachi was a bit interesting; thick and uneven slices on all 7-8 slices of fish. We got a couple of the rolls recommended (Lollipop roll and I can't remember the other one exactly). They were definitely a fusion style and were fine. We got some nigiri to round out the meal; akami, chutoro, scallop, red snapper, foie gras, uni, and unagi. The tuna tasted fresh, the scallop was solid was well but the chopped scallop mix sauce could use a bit of work; maybe a spice element or acidic element to help it out. The foie gras was probably the best thing in our meal; it came with a quail egg cooked perfectly over easy and was A1. The uni was west coast uni and was fresh and tasty. Overall, is this the most authentic spot or high end sushi joint ever? No, but if you choose and order carefully, you can definitely have a delicious meal in an area of town with limited sushi options. We had some hits, some misses, and some meh's but if we ordered a bit differently next time, it'll definitely be 4/5 for flavor instead of a 3.5/5. The menu is huge and overwhelming and I would recommend slimming it down to make inventory count more manageable and class up the menu a bit.
We visited Izakaya Hi for lunch recently and had a great first experience. My husband and I shared the shrimp tempura, spicy salmon roll, and curry rice with pork Katsu. It was the perfect amount of food for a filling lunch, and everything was delicious! The salmon tasted very fresh. My favorite dish would have to be the curry rice, which was so flavorful and went so well with the crispy pork Katsu. The service and ambiance were great as well. We hope to go back soon!
Great ambiance, food, & service! Looking for sushi in this area, I found Izakaya Hi on Westheimer with over 1000 pictures. I was pleasantly surprised that it was not crowded, however I did visit at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon, so it makes sense it's not crowded on a Sunday before the school week. Greeted promptly and I chose to sit at the bar, there was one other couple at the bar, enjoying their experience. I chose a glass of Salon blanc,Goyza, spicy edamame to start. I was looking for a Maki roll and was thinking I would order Godzilla, Hawaiian, or Osaka roll. I ended up with the August special Re-Mix Roll!
Not gonna lie, I only came by because I've had the biggest craving for omurice and this spot was the nearest place that had a decent looking one. I'm happy to report that it was really good and worth going to! The omurice here is volcano style, with a chicken fried rice and an amazingly delicious tomato & mushroom demi-glaze. I also had a miso soup to go with it and the potato croquettes to start off the meal. I haven't had potato croquettes like this since I've moved here from NYC, so that was a bite of comfort for sure. read more

Came for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was not too busy and service was great. The server was super friendly and gave us a lot of good recommendations. The decor was nice and was a great place for a date. We got the calamari, salmon ochizuke, bibimbap, and bulgogi roll. It was definitely way too much food. The calamari was super good, nice and crispy and flavorful and came with a slightly spicy sauce. The salmon sushi was a star. Torched with a great smoky flavor, we were told to probably just eat half the rice. Extremely rich but paired well with the light pickled wasabi. The bibimbap and bulgogi roll could not hold up to the first two, so we opted to take them to go. The bulgogi roll was an odd mix and didn't end up tasting as good as it sounded and the bibimbap was great but we were too full to really enjoy it. Overall, awesome restaurant with a really extensive menu. Will need to be back to try their other options! read more

Still frequent this place and it's consistently good! Our favorites these days are the calamari tempura, Korean bbq short ribs, and the beef soft tofu stew. All 5+/5 and must try!! The calamari is nothing like the rings you'd usually expect. They're delicately fried little pieces and still tender. Paired with a sweet/spicy sauce and I gobble this up every time. The short ribs come out on a sizzling plate and is a meal in itself. The flavor and tenderness of the meat makes this a winner. Then the beef soft tofu pot... great when you're craving something piping hot. It comes out boiling and is great on rice. Note it is a bit spicy but just in the tolerable range for me. Tofu super soft and plenty of beef. Service is still great and the place is always clean. read more

3.5 stars! I had hi hopes for this place. I see it promoted on yelp and I've seen insta foodies post about it, so one Friday I popped in at lunchtime. There is outdoor seating as well as plenty inside, and a bunch of people eating on their break from work. My server was attentive and provided recommendations, and I settled on the takoyaki and the chicken teriyaki bento. Sadly, the takoyaki tasted like it was not made fresh and wasn't warm so the bonito flakes didn't dance. I've definitely tasted much better. The bento came and was a good amount for the price, but the rice was a bit too undercooked and the gyoza again seemed previously frozen. The chicken was good and the salad fresh. It's good for a quick lunch stop or a quick late dinner, but there are too many greater options nearby for me to stop in again anytime soon. read more

One of our go to spots for sushi. The inside vibes are really nice, and they are probably one of the very few places who have Karoake and sushi (I haven't tried their Karoake rooms, but I imagine they are nice given how the main restaurant area looks). Food wise it is always good. I usually get my favorite roll here, which is Shaggy Dog, but I tried the Viking Roll w/o avocado recently and that one was really good to. We also got shrimp chips, which you can only find on their online menu but got it also in the restaurant and those were amazing. Recommend this spot if you are looking for a good sushi place on Westheimer. read more

I love finding local spots that just have good food. One of the great things about this place is I don't have to fight traffic to go into town for Japanese good. This is a great place to just help that craving. Another great thing about this place is the variety of food they have. Outside of their sushi, they have a plethora of dishes for those who may not be the biggest sushi enthusiast but want to still join their friends. I went there for lunch and actually ordered the omurice which was quite delicious. The portion was huge and lasted me for 3 meals! I will notate that this is not the pocket egg omurice, but more of the flower/twister style for the egg. The rice was a bit stew-y which I love, but some may say it's a bit too much liquid. I also ordered the takoyaki as an appetizer which wasn't too bad. They also have bento boxes which our table ordered and that was a good deal as well since they give you a lot of protein. The service was pretty great. They were attentive and friendly. Overall they got our orders and food out in a timely manner. The atmosphere was also nice for lunch. There were people there but it didn't feel stuffy or too crowded. The noise level was appropriate as well. They also have an outside patio if it's a nice day and you want to sit outside. I also always appreciate their large parking lot, so you don't have to fight for a spot. read more
We came for dinner around 9pm and sat on the patio with our dog. Unfortunately the patio can be a bit buggy, so I'd suggest eating indoors if coming in the evening. The food was great! As was the reverse happy hour. We ordered two rolls, the takoyaki, and the croquettes. I'd definitely come back to eat inside. The takoyaki I'd probably pass on. Both rolls we got I liked, but would like to try others that they have. The croquettes were good too, but I'd rather have it with something like a Japanese curry sauce rather than the more Worcestershirey sauce that they offer. Izaka Hi offers an excellent happy hour from Monday through Thursday (3-6 PM, 8:30 PM to close), Friday (3-6 PM, 9:30 PM to close), and Saturday (9:30 PM to close). The happy hour menu includes a good selection of appetizers, drinks, Nigiri, and Maki. During our visit, Edyn was our server and she did an outstanding job. We ordered the miso soup, seaweed salad, takoyaki, and calamari tempura. We also split a maki combo, choosing shrimp tempura, spicy California, spicy salmon, and salmon avocado rolls (the last one wasn't on the happy hour menu). Everything was delicious! The atmosphere during happy hour is clean and not too busy, making it an aesthetically pleasing spot. We come here regularly, and it never disappoints. read more

So glad we decided to try this place out. Our server was great. The environment was clean, ambiance was nice and felt relaxed. Food was amazing! We ordered the stuffed crab wontons for appetizer and 3 rolls for dinner. We tried the Shrek roll, crunch California, and hungry roll. All tasted so good and fresh! All the rolls on their menu sounded good and definitely going to try the fried rice next time we go. The couple next to us received a plate and it looked so good from afar. read more

Shaggy dog - 9/10 Shrimp tempura roll - 8.5/10 La la roll - 9/10 One of the better sushi spots ive tried in town. All the rolls were cooked well and flavorful! I would recommend going during their happy hour They have so many menu items to choose from and also have private karaoke rooms! read more

Hands down! Thee best sushi I've had thus far lol The flavors just slapped me in the face. Oooh omg... Mm Hmm It was hand made fresh on the spot! Ion what it was about that shaggy dog... but scoobie doobie Doo! Lmbo it was the bomb. They also have cream mango soda if you into that, but I'm just stick to what I know. Which is lemonade. I paid roughly around $17 for shaggy and a lemonade. Super glad the wasabi was inside a single pack, verses touching my sushi because I don't eat wasabi. read more

Reverse happy hour menu was delicious and inexpensive. The menu looks extensive and we plan on returning and exploring outside of the happy hour. Ambiance was cozy and cute. Almost forgot we were in a strip mall on the long stretch of Westheimer. Staff was very nice and attentive. read more
