Sushi Masa - Sushi! - Sushi Bars Near Me - Houston, Texas

I've come to this place for years. That's why today was a complete surprise... Ordered through a 3rd party app. Somehow another sushi roll was ordered when on the app 'crab-fried rice' was clearly selected. I just called the restaurant directly to let them know. I was assured it was fine. To no surprise the sushi roll still showed up. So I called the restaurant to let them know. Everyone proceeded to forget I had called within a minute of placing the order. Not a single person made any attempt to correct or even apologize for the mistake. To me it wasn't even a big deal, I was just shocked at the lack of caring as I spoke to a manager I believe. I informed him of what happened and his response was 'okay'. I've always loved this place and I always showed it on the bill. Things change of course and now it's time to find a new sushi restaurant... read more

Let's start with what I had: tempura shrimp roll, salmon roll, miso soup side and a sprite. Order total $20.11 with tip Food break down: the shrimp roll was lacking flavor and the salmon was warm, its very clear more investment should be focused on the quality of fishes rather then the decor. Miso I couldn't finish due to not being a fine of the tofu Service: my waiter was shy and timid but sweet and fast However when I first arrived I needed to request a busy seating to actually be noticed and waited on. The atmosphere: loud, full but not compact Not ideal for introverted individuals I will return in the future to see if they improve. read more

Good AYCE sushi. We went for an early dinner and the spot was empty. That changed quickly as our time progressed. By the time we left I noticed people waiting. They are two sides to the restaurant but they were not seating anyone on the other side. I guess it was a Tuesday maybe! Better quality sushi than store bought with more options. First time visiting this location and it is bigger than the Sugarland location. Decorated nicely! Favorites were the salmon skin salad, salmon sashimi and smoked salmon sashimi. Pepper tuna was a miss for me. Very small and not too tasty. Speciality rolls are similar to other location. Kani salad was just as tasty but they added crunchy to their Kani salad which I thought took away from the dish. First time seeing the I-bots in person. It was cool seeing it deliver food to tables. If I were in area I would definitely eat here again. Overall for two dinners we paid around $72 without including our tip amount! read more

Meet the Westheimer location - the newer edition of the franchise (OG located in Sugarland)! I can now travel half the distance to get the same amazing AYCE sashimi/sushi! The inside is quite spacious and very accommodating. Wait time was very brief and our group was seated almost immediately. I noticed that this location has a menu with even more appetizers compared to the original and quite elevated I would add! Even though it's AYCE sushi, the dining experience and curation of the plates is exquisite! All of the classics are here - Nemo Roll, I-10 roll, Dragon roll, etc. Our waitress was very kind and accommodated our requests for a smaller bowl of ramen as we wanted to try as many things. The sashimi was fresh and we quickly devoured our fill of salmon, yellowtail, scallops, surf clam, eel, and octopus! Much love to the Sushi Masa restaurants here in Houston!!! read more

The AYCE sushi scene is starting to become fierce in Houston. There's always one popping up around the corner. Sushi Masa stands its ground in this competitive battlefield, which is why I'm definitely not surprised that they have been expanding and opening new locations. For the price, sushi masa's quality is second to none. This location is great. The tuna and salmon sashimi were fresh and tasty. I love that you can order so many portions all at once. We had a large group, which made ordering rolls easier because we could share. The menu isn't really different compared to the other places, but this does have a secret menu with ramen and some unique other options like "Asian tacos", which were fun bites. My friend got the ramen and was able to order a half portion, but it was still huge! It looked great though and the sip I had of the broth was rich and creamy. Not enough pictures below because food came quick and service was fast. Great job as always, sushi masa! read more

This newer location of sushi masa is very large and spacious. I like the decorations and aesthetic of the seating area. I thought the ayce menu was worth it. Came in on a Saturday night without reservation and seated immediately. Place was about 2/3 full, very large location. Dress code: casual Food 4.5/5: very high quality sushi and sashimi for an ayce. Rice to fish ratio was fantastic and all the food was very flavorful. Obviously not omakase quality but quantity is a quality all its own and the quality was not lacking either Ambiance 4/5: clean and warm environment with wood furniture, more rustic feel Service 4.5/5: very attentive and friendly, able to offer good advice when asked Value buffet/5: for me it's a 5/5 value since I eat a lot but given the quality it's even higher value. It's a little further out from me but still worth Overall 4.6/5: probably my fave new ayce given the quality and variety available, will be back often despite the distance from me Parking: large lot read more

Came for the AYCE dinner and left with a great dining experience! From the moment we entered, we had excellent and attentive service. The interior was spacious and well decorated with a loved cherry blossom tree really setting the vibe. Our waitress was amazing and really took the time to explain the menu and options, and checked in on us. The AYCE menu was impressive and oh so delicious. Everything from the nigiri to the sushi to the sashimi to the rolls were amazing. I loved the Nemo roll and the yellowtail sashimi. The gyoza and yakitori were tasty as well. The double spicy roll with the crushed chip texture was unique and flavorful. I also liked that the dessert and drink were included and thought the ice cream and tempura cheesecake were amazing. Overall, highly recommend! read more

This wasnt our first time trying Sushi Masa, but it was our first time at the Westheimer location. We really like this location because its much bigger than the Sugarland one. The interior is well-decorated as usual. We got a lot of the sashimi specifically, the salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and scallops, which are all really good. The fish quality was surprisingly really good, so we definitely ate a lot haha Parking can be difficult because theres a lot of popular restaurants in that plaza. The staff were all very nice. Unfortunately service was a bit slow and it took a while for us to get our food and the check. read more

A pretty decent sushi spot for lunch (and probably dinner?). Went on a Tuesday for lunch and it was not too busy. Affordable lunch special - it was $14 or $16 for 3 types of sushi roll plus soup or salad. You can go with miso or clear/mushroom soup, although that wasn't really explained or offered when we ordered. I found overall the sushi was decent for the price but the service was a little off on timing / cadence the whole time we were there. I can tell from the reviews that most people really enjoy this place! I think we probably went on an off day with service being weird but overall still recommend checking out it for affordable and decent quality sushi! read more

I seen this spot on Instagram, so we decided to stop by and check it out. They have a lunch special that is all you can eat for $20.95. It is located in a pretty large building and there is plenty of parking available. When we walked in, we were quickly greeted by the hostess, who asked us if we had any food allergies. We were quickly seated after that. There was no wait for a table at lunchtime. The decor is very Instagramable! We sat in a pretty large booth, but tables were available also. Our server was very nice and she checked on us frequently throughout our visit. It wasn't very loud in here and you were definitely able to hold a conversation without yelling. The food is good. I've been to a few other AYCE sushi spots. This place was definitely not my favorite, but the quality of the food was fine. The fish was fresh. The eel was our favorite!! The selection seemed to be limited as far as desserts and appetizers. I would say that it seemed to be a delay on the food coming out compared to the other spots I've been to as well. Overall, the food was good. I'm just not sure if I would return. read more

AYCE sushi on westheimer Houston, TX There is a huge parking lot but can get busy on weekends due to other businesses around. The inside is huge with plenty of seating. We got seated immediately on a busy weekend and the service was great too. The food, overall, was MID. The quality could be better. Some raw fish were fishy but not super bad. I really liked their fried cheesecake. The AYCE price is very reasonable with lots on the menu. This is a great place for families to eat family style, but I wouldn't come here on a regular night out. read more

Nice decor, great food and service. We didn't get the all you can eat, but got an assortment a la carte. Kimchi, grilled skewer shrimp, masa roll, tuna Nigeria, and cocktails. Highlights - the kimchi was a good amount of spicy. The shrimp was small but very tasty. And our server, Jacob T was great. read more

Still in their grand opening phase and things are going well! We tried a bit of everything: sushi, sashimi, rolls, apps, tempura, noodles, dessert... We stuck to the AYCE menu and I think we definitely got our money's worth. Food is fresh and tasty, huge restaurant (the old Yao), service was fast, plenty of parking in the shared lot. New AYCE sushi place opened?? Say less! Right off the bat I've already tried other Sushi Masa locations so I did not have too high of an expectation for this place. Upon entering, the place was extremely spacious and clean. There was no wait. We were seated immediately as we walked in. The food definitely exceeded my expectations and was absolutely worth the price. The presentation was top-notch, with dishes arriving quickly and beautifully plated. There is a lunch [~21$] and a dinner menu [~32$]. I opted for the dinner menu, as it offers more options for sashimi and appetizers. Our server checked on us often and made sure we were satisfied with our food. For the price and quality, I would definitely revisit. read more

My friends and I are huge fans of the OG Sushi Masa in Sugar Land, so when we heard they opened up a new location on Westheimer we started making plans to go visit! In a twist of fate, the opportunity presented itself after an unexpected power outage at Mensho - it was an easy dinner detour to Westchase from Chinatown, and we easily found parking at Masa's strip mall. It was pretty quiet and we felt like we had the place to ourselves; we were well attended by the staff and enjoyed a more relaxed pace to our AYCE sushi. Here are my thoughts on our experience: Menu: The classic Masa menu comprises hot and cold appetizers, nigiri, sashimi, basic and signature rolls, tempura, teriyaki, fried rice/noodles, and desserts - this location has a "secret" menu where you can also order 1 of 3 bowls of ramen! I loved ordering all my tried-and-true faves (shout-out to the mango salmon, teriyaki shrimp, and Nemo and double spicy rolls!) as well as decadent sashimi platters that could have come from a much more expensive à la carte sushi bar. The presentation was on point that night - the chefs certainly had the time and effort to give each plate some pizzazz! The ramen was alright; its inclusion gives non-sushi eaters more options on the menu but it's a far cry from our original plan to eat at Mensho, haha. Don't forget your scoop of ice cream at the end, ideally served alongside a piping hot order of banana tempura! Service: Given our guest-to-server ratio that night, we received friendly, prompt, and efficient service (as we always do at Masa!) They took the time to chat with us about the new opening and even accommodated my request for a half portion of ramen - in short, they were incredible and I hope they'll continue that hospitality once the crowds start coming. Ask for Dragon, he's a hoot-and-a-half! Logistics: Parking and tables are extremely accessible (at least for now) but it turns out that it's the same driving time from my neighborhood to here as it would be to the Sugar Land location. Plus, a slower dinner service doesn't necessarily bode well for the rate of food turnover, which is always appreciated when consuming large quantities of raw fish. I think the OG still has the edge at the moment, but I'm hopeful this branch will flourish in short order - I'll definitely be back the next time I'm looking for my sushi fix :) read more

i stopped in for their "ayce" special, which i think is a pretty good deal. the food was great quality for "ayce". i really like how it's made to order and not a buffet style. my entire party was pleased with their meal. they even offer some children's meals for the picky eater, like tenders and fries! which is great because it's hard to feed a picky eater at japanese restaurants because the typical fried chicken option is karage and not tendies. ohhh.. and on the ayce menu they have snapper listed as a hot entree... but they actually do not have snapper... unless you like mystery fish our server was great! and the layout of the space is massive and great for a large party. bonne appétit read more

Sushi masa was lovely, we've been there plenty of times before but hadn't been able upload a review. Tommy was our server and he was great! We did the all you can eat lunch option! The selection options are great, I am a little sad they limited the dessert menu. You used to be able to order the Oreo, and cheese cake, now you can only order ice cream. We ordered way more but I forgot to take pictures! I highly recommend this place and if you aren't sure it's about the average price of a meal anywhere else! I was impressed with sushi masa because of the food, quality and value. The servers are really helpful and the interior is clean and cozy. I am surprised that one alcoholic beverage or soft drink is included in the pricing. Most all you can eat do not offer that. Although our waiter did mess up our orders a couple times because it was so chaotic, they got it right for the most part and, the food options are pretty much endless and everything was really tasty. The hot food here is pretty good. After being explained the menu; I liked that the all you can eat included a soft drink or wine (if I remember correctly). We started off with some cold appetizers and hot ones; the tempura was cooked perfectly and so fresh. The fried rice I'm still thinking about right now it was hot and buttery and the pieces of steak and shrimp, because we got the combo, were juicy and cooked just right. We ordered two rounds of that I couldn't believe it. The roll we got was just okay I think we chose wrong to be honest, the jalapeño yellowtail was a hit we ordered a lot of those. read more

The craving hit for an AYCE sushi spot and since my friends and I were in the general area, we decided to come check out Sushi Masa. I've been to their Sugarland location and thought it was ok but I was willing to give them another shot at this location. They have a few locations in Houston and throughout Texas, Louisiana and Florida. Come to find out, this location used to be Yao's. It's a very large space with plenty of parking. They have two different seating areas, as well as a huge bar. It's decorated very nicely and on our visit it was decked out for Halloween. When we arrived, we were seated right away and it was pretty quiet. Soon after the place got really busy. Even with how busy it got, our food came out quick every time we put in an order. They have a large are with lots of employees preparing orders quick. We started off with a new employee who was nice but not very knowledgeable about the menu, but his trainer Tommy stole the show with great customer service with a great sense of humor. Though it's known for their all you can eat menu, you can also opt for a la carte as well. I purposely didn't eat all day so I went with the AYCE option. At $32.95 for dinner, it's one of the most reasonably priced options in the city. This also includes your first beer, sake, wine, or soft drink in the price. I went with tea just so I can save the stomach real estate for food. The menu has everything from salads, appetizers, sushi/sashimi, regular and specialty rolls, soup, tempura, katsu, teriyaki, fried rice, noodles and dessert. We ordered too many items to list out, but we I can say we dabbled in most of the categories. Their sushi and sashimi was fresh and tasty and the cuts were respectable. That along with the rolls all came out presented nicely as well. They also have a not so secret menu that included ramen and items like sushi tacos and ramen. I tried both and they were both good. I got the tonkotsu ramen and it was way better than I was expecting. I barely had room, but I got the fried Oreos and ice cream to finish out the meal and that was also very good and a great way to end the meal. Overall, Sushi Masa was a great experience this time around. It will definitely be going into my rotation when the craving hits. I will be back. read more

My friends and I came here for AYCE which was very reasonably priced. We made reservations to ensure we had enough seating which was very simple to do. The decor inside is very Japanese-inspired. The restaurant itself was very clean and the staff was very nice. We wrote down our orders for ease of sharing with the waitress and all of our orders came out relatively promptly. Everything tasted very fresh and was all very delicious. We ordered a variety of sushi, sashimi, miso soup, specialty rolls and their Asian tacos. It was all very delicious and very much worth the set price. I would highly recommend this restaurant and I will be adding it to my rotation for sushi. read more

AYCE sushi is definitely a hit or miss. True Sushi (now Cowboy) sushi further down Westheimer started off strong and then fell off. This being a successful chain had me hopeful. My cousin and I came the second week of opening and were impressed. Prices were great: 32 for dinner, $21 for lunch. Dinner included a sake or domestic beer. Place is huge (took over Yao's former restaurant). Service was good - guy came to check up on us often. The fish tasted good and they didn't overload the rolls with rice (which is usually the case, to skimp on the fish). A few of the rolls were very similar though so make sure you read the descriptions well before ordering. Ready to go back! read more

Good AYCE sushi! I'm not the biggest sushi lover but I've wanted to try sushi masa for awhile & saw this location was bigger with better decor and opted to go here. Went during weekend lunch which was $21 before tax and had a decent number of sushi options with ramen, soft drink, and ice cream! Food: - I wish the pepper tuna and tuna tataki had a bit more flavor or seasoning - the salmon and eel nigiri which were great, however the I thought the proportion of rice was a bit too much - agedashi tofu okay, the yakitori too dry - The baby tiger roll was also good with decent amount of fish! Specialty rolls come with 8 pieces. - The tonkotsu ramen was surprising really good. - The ice cream was a nice touch however I've had better ice cream at another ayce sushi place. I also wish there was a different ordering system because it would take awhile for the waiter to come take our order. read more

We visited as a family and had a very disappointing experience. Our 8-month-old baby became upset and started crying, and instead of showing understanding, the manager, Adrien, approached us and essentially asked that our baby be quiet or be taken outside. As parents, we understand the importance of being considerate of other guests, but babies cry--it is a normal part of being an infant. We were actively tending to our child, yet we felt unwelcome and embarrassed by how the situation was handled. If a restaurant does not want to accommodate families with young children, that should be made clear. Families should not feel as though they are being asked to leave simply because their baby is behaving like a baby. We regularly visit and review restaurants and appreciate establishments that are family-friendly and understand that children are part of the dining community. Unfortunately, this experience felt unprofessional and lacked the level of hospitality we expected. Very disappointing experience. read more

For the price and the experience, it really can't be beat. For the menu, we really did order quite a bit off of the appetizers as the fish there felt a little bit more premium when we ate it. Not sure how we felt, though about the full priced meals, better to just go ahead and go with the all you could eat for the quantity to price ratio. Kevin was our server and it was awesome. He was very attentive. The food came out hot and fresh, and we also stayed a while to chat, which was nice. We did go after the lunch hour, and it filled up quite fast when we left right when dinner was starting. I would heavily suggest making a reservation, especially if you're going on the weekends as it fills up fast. We will definitely be back! read more
