Consistently good ramen, even if not the most authentic place! I usually go with the spicy chicken ramen and always add a seasoned egg- which is always good! Recently, my bf and I tried the spicy tuna tacos, salmon poke tacos and Brussels sprouts tempura for apps. The spicy tuna ones were our faves . Service is reliable and quick, as always, making the experience smooth and enjoyable. The ambience is cozy, perfect for catching up with friends, a casual date, or even dining solo.
We decided we wanted ramen on a recent cold Houston night and went to one of our consistent places, JINYA. JINYA is located in the heart of midtown in a popular restaurant strip. Their ramen is flavorful and solid and their service is consistent. Parking: parking is free in the garage around the corner from JINYA. We went during the week and the garage was not packed. There's also paid street parking around the restaurant that you can find but look for signs to know when you have to pay and when you don't. Service: service here is very good. They have an army of waitresses and waiters who check on tables and we never had to ask for refills or never had to flag down someone. Our food came out in a timely manner. The one thing I will say about service is the appetizers we ordered came out right before our ramen so we had all of our food at one time which was a lot. I wish they would've spaced out the food timing a little more. Ambiance: JINYA has a modern interior and open concept. They have tables, booths, and 2 big community tables in the center of the restaurant. The restaurant playlist is hip and modern. The inside of the restaurant is dimly lit so if you have bad eyesight, get ready to use your flashlight to read the menu. Food: we ordered two ramens and the gyoza and edamame. Gyoza: these were fried well and had a gyoza sauce that came on the table. The wrapper was thin and they were not too oily. We would order this again. Edamame: this was typical edamame. Nothing too special. Would not get this again when we come back. Creamy Classic Tori-Paitian: this is a chicken ramen with wavy noodles that came with fried enoki mushrooms, chicken chasu, butter, spinach and a corn rib. This ramen was rich in flavor and had so many fun, delicious toppings. The corn run was grilled nicely and I wish I had more of them in my bowl. I'm a sucker for enoki mushrooms and this did not disappoint. I took the enoki mushrooms out of the ramen immediately so they didn't get soggy fast and that was the move if you want the mushrooms to stay crunchy. The chicken broth was rich and light which was a great combo. I finished this bowl to the last drop. JINYA Chicken Ramen: my girlfriend got the chicken ramen with a side of bamboo. Warning on the bamboo: the bamboo comes dressed in sesame oil and sole hot oil so they are a little spicy. The chicken ramen broth was once again rich with flavor and light. The chicken chase was good and this ramen comes with thin noodles instead of wavy noodles. Overall JINYA hits the spot when craving ramen or some hot soup on a cold day. The chicken broth is legit and I will be closing back to try the pork broth soon. My only qualm with JINYA is the price at over $17 per bowl of ramen. There are cheaper ramen places but JINYA flavor makes up for the priciness.
Consistently good ramen. I've been visiting Jinya for years and never had a bad meal. I always get the spicy chicken ramen and substitute the broth for the spicy creamy vegan broth (like this broth better) -- and it's always delicious. Staff are friendly. Great service. Very cute inside.
Jinya Ramen is to Japanese food what Chipotle is to Mexican food. It's not super authentic, it's very much a commercialized chain.... but it IS consistent. If you temper your expectations of eating super authentic Japanese style ramen, you can enjoy your meal here. I often go to the KFT or Feng Cha right next door so I stop in to Jinya beforehand. The food always tastes the same, I have never had a day where I got what I didn't expect. The staff are also always super friendly, authentic, and the food comes fast, so the service is A+++. That said, my main gripes are: 1. Portions are SMALL. I'm a very small-volume eater, which means I get full really fast on small portions, but after eating a bowl of ramen at Jinya, I still felt a little hungry. But the ramen was already $17!!! No way was I going to pay for more. 2. Spicy levels are almost nonexistent. There are three levels: mild, spicy, and hot. I can barely taste the spicy at spicy level, and "hot" would be what I would consider a "mild" at some other establishments. So if you're looking for genuinely spicy ramen, this is not the place. These gripes are not really anything that management can change, as they are a chain and have to adhere to portion sizing and recipes provided by corporate. You just need to be aware of what you're getting when you go to a Jinya.
The spicy in spicy chicken ramen wasn't really there. Located with the parking garage, so huge plus. We got seated right away at the bar on a weekend. Ambiance is dark and ominous lol like I needed my flashlights to look at those tiny words on the menu. Maybe I'm getting old. I had lychee martini, and that was 4/5. I've had better and I have worse. It definitely wasn't fake lychee flavor so I appreciate that. Also had spicy chicken ramen. When it came out, I was like I really should've gotten extra noodles because this wasn't Texas size I was expecting. HOWEVER, to my surprise, the portion was filling. The bowl is deep.. noodles were cooked right, but it really didn't have the good spice to it. It felt little flat. It's a good place to try it out though.
I came with a big group around 10/11 and everyone was so accommodating!! My ramen was delicious and I would definitely come back!! Our server was very sweet and very attentive!!

If you're wanting consistency, this is your place. I never physically have eaten at Jinya so getting the full experience and aesthetics was great. It's beautifully designed and very modern. Gives a romantic upscale vibe even though I was there on a random afternoon wearing workout gear, single as hell. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful with the menu, special items and HH overview. I went with the Tan Tan Men and the chill sesame seeds or oil caught me off guard and tickled my throat pretty good. Yes to the spicy tuna tacos and skip the J. Girl. You are paying for the vibes as this is on the higher end for ramen, so that would be my only major gripe.
Jinya has always been one of my favorite places for ramen around town, and the Midtown location is my favorite out of all their locations around Houston area. I've been coming to this location for over 10 years, and the quality has always been super consistent and delicious. Being in Midtown, the restaurant definitely does get very packed, especially on the weekends, so it can get a bit difficult to find parking in the attached garage or the surrounding street parking if you go during busy hours. The tables/seats are a bit small and close together, so it does get pretty loud in the restaurant. The ambiance is dark and casual, and the servers are always friendly. For the foods, you really can't miss with whatever you order. There is a wide selection of ramen to choose from, and the broths are always super flavorful. You can customize the spice level, add additional toppings, and/or substitute the ramen noodle. My absolute favorite ramen are the Jinya Tonkotsu Black ramen and the Wonton Chicken Ramen. I also really love their rice bowls, especially the Pork Chashu bowl. I also really like their selections of appetizers, especially the Pork Gyoza and the Takoyaki.
The Shrimp Wonton Ramen shouldn't be served to humans. It's literally all oil and it tastes like really diluted shrimp crackers. Just an oily inedible mess. When I contacted the restaurant to see if I could exchange they said sorry all complaints go through DoorDash and wouldn't help me as per their policy. Won't be ordering ever again.
The food was fantastic. It was my first time going to a Ramen restaurant and I loved it. We sat at the community table that created a fun atmosphere and everyone cheered for patrons as they came in. Our waiter, Romeo, was great!
JINYA Ramen has the best ramen I have ever had! My husband and I both ordered the wonton chicken ramen! We added baby bok choy and seasoned egg. It was quite busy at the restaurant, and the atmosphere was quite nice very Houston most people Were very Houstonian Perhaps it's to accommodate the locals, but the broth was mediocre in all honesty. Nothing crazy to write home about we had their signature tonKatsu black. NO MISO In case there are people who are interested in that flavor Perhaps it was a busy evening, but they gave us a drink that wasn't ours and Gyoza that wasn't ours. I would've happily taken it if I hadn't have to pay. lol. Our waiter Baisak was very kind and attentive though he was insistent on the gyoza and it was brought out even when I said we only wanted two other appetizers I thought he brought it over because he wanted us to try it, but we made sure to speak to them that we didn't want or order it. Very understanding tho! They only give you one piece of meat So I feel like for the price that's a bit expensive considering it's $17 a bowl. Even though the egg is an entire egg, not half an egg, I would rather substitute and have them give us more at least another piece of chasu Salmon poke tacos was amazing. That I recommend if you can eat raw sushi Jinya bun was not bad, it was half fatty and half meat and a lil hard so it was ehh We had their matcha tiramisu cake and honestly, it was more Matcha and cream than tiramisu so I wouldn't recommend ordering that unless you want a Matcha cream cake very misleading Overall, there are other places that I would rather choose as this one is just subpar. Nothing crazy about it and honestly over priced for what it is
i popped into jinya on a friday evening, and was pleasantly surprised by the sexy decor-- low lights and deep colors. the service was prompt. we were immediately seated and our server was really sweet. i ordered the veggie ramen with a few fixings and a spicy tuna and crispy rice. veryyy good! for the ramen to be made with meat, the broth was definitely still full bodied and comforting. it was my friend's bday, and we brought it a cake. the server didn't make a fuss about it and was very helpful. the staff all came and sung happy birthday, which was very sweet and unexpected. of course we cut cake for the servers and kitchen staff. (if you dont at least give your server a piece of cake, please do better! cake is meant to be shared and celebrating is for anyone). i wasn't able to finish my ramen despite the pix. i definitely took it home and ate it for brunch the following saturday and the flavours still held up. bonné appétit c. read more

Great food and great prices! I really like the feel and look of this Jinya location. Especially being in midtown the layout reminds me of typical restaurants in NYC, so a city vibe. We sat by the bar at the front of the restaurant, which I enjoyed because the natural sunlight coming in. The remainder of the restaurant is dimly it. I decided to have small bites so broccolini and chicken bites. The broccolini was really good, it was topped with quinoa which I wonder is added for texture because it didn't add much to the actual meal but it still tasted good over all. The chicken bites were super hot and fresh. Much larger than I was expecting as well. I tried the kiwi mocktail drink which was pretty yummy as well. read more

The spicy chicken ramen at Jinya is a classic! What I love about Jinya is their standardization of food. You know what you're going to get every time and there are no surprises or changes in quality. Solid ramen. Young crowd. Great for casual date or late dinner with a group of friends since its open late. They have a bunch of table options as well as community tables for larger parties or more efficient / cramped seating. Their wheel house is the solid variety of ramen. consistently well executed. my goto is the rich flavorful tonkotsu. they also have other varieties to keep it interesting. The six piece takoyaki is delicious and a solid appetizer. The sides and combos are a little bit or miss. the combos seem like a good value but the portions are small so I'm not sure they are worth it. e.g. eg the curry and salad for $11 is a small bowl of rice and a bit of basic Japanese curry and a bowl of house salad with a bit of ginger dressing. The service is reasonable. They get busy sometimes. Its a bit loud inside so its a little difficult to talk. The parking is a challenge. The attached parking garage is shared with other restaurants and gets full. read more

2nd time here! And I love it again and again! Service is excellent!!! The attention to detail in restaurant and service and food is amazing!!! The ambiance is very chill and enjoyable! Background music is great! We ordered shrimp wonton ramen, the spicy tuna tacos, JINYA Bun, shrimp tempura in spicy Mayo and panna cotta for dessert! Almost forgot about my drink lychetini!!! Savory, just the right spice! Perfect moist and juicy shrimp wontons!! All combined in my ramen soup OML!!! Warmth just before the cold flu season is perfect!!! JINYA BUN!! Don't skip it, bun is spongy and pork belly is perfectly cooked! Just delicious!!! The spicy Mayo shrimp crunchyyy and savory!!! Big portions and well worth every bite!!! This new policy about having to join a wait list for the bar seating is RIDICULOUS. NOBODY does that, anywhere. Not even fine dining establishments. The bar had no one sitting at it for the 15mins I waiting on my to go order. I originally wanted to sit at the bar with a friend. This place had dim lighting that created a relaxing yet upscale vibe. The staff was welcoming both when we arrived and when we left. I ordered the Yuzu Shio Delight, which typically comes with a mix of chicken and pork broth, but I was able to substitute it with just chicken broth. I also got the spicy chicken ramen. This place was so nice and food was so good. Now when I usually go get ramen I only will get the beef ramen because I don't eat pork. But they did not have any beef so I had to try the chicken. Now I'm usually skeptical on chicken because if they use breast it's usually dry. But when I tell you the chicken breast was tender as can be! Oh yes! It was so tender and the ramen broth was so tasty and complex in depth with flavor I could not believe it! I wanted medium spice but should have gotten the spiciest since it wasn't that spicy enough for me. I also added a seasoned egg which was an extra charge and fresh garlic which was free. That garlic made it even better! Our waitress was really great she explained the menu and was very helpful and answered all our questions that we had without any problems. She was very attentive which is hard to come by these days in restaurants with the younger people working. We all ordered I believe it was called the Samurai martini which was really good! A must get when you are there. The restaurant itself was very well done and really pretty. If I come again I will sit up at the bar at the front that where you are able to look outside and enjoy the view from the floor to ceiling glass windows. Came to JINYA for happy hour on a Sunday with a group of six and was pleasantly surprised to be seated right away. They've got a mix of small tables and bigger, communal-style ones, which worked out perfectly for our group. The lighting and overall vibe were really cool--modern but cozy. We started with the edamame and Brussels sprouts tempura to share. Both were solid apps, though I felt like the Brussels sprouts could've used a bit more punch flavor-wise. Still fun to snack on, especially with the variety of dipping sauces at the table. For my main, I went with the JINYA Tonkotsu Black--so good. The broth was rich and flavorful without being too heavy, the pork had great texture and taste, and the egg was jammy and nicely seasoned. Exactly what I was craving. Our server was super friendly and didn't miss a beat, even with a bigger group. And major props to them for being able to split the check--seriously, that's getting harder and harder to find these days, so it's always appreciated. Definitely a spot I'd come back to for a casual hang or solid ramen fix. Bonus points for happy hour deals, good service, and not making me do Venmo math at the table. read more
