The place smelled not great walking in. It smelt as though they have sewage issues. The mushrooms had no flavor and the edamame I got, I paid $1 more to make it spicy and it just had a paste on top with of it. Not mixed. DEM NACHOSSS WAS BUSSIN' Let's get right into it. We went here as a last minute option due to Leighton's House of Lamb + Ramen being CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS. Boom, we come here. They deserve 4.5 stars because come on it's 24/7 ramen. Parking is cool but limited. First impression walking in was that it has this really unique and dope vibe. I love the set up and it was giving spacious. There were cassette tapes aligned on the wall in the booth we sat in, which I thought was very creative. There was Anime characters above the doors when you first walk in, with Anime playing on the TVs at the bar. Oh yeah, THERES A FULL BAR if you ready to get your drink on. Now, off rip the host was annoying. She was kinda rushy and caught an attitude when we asked for a booth. We can't even describe the vibe she gave off fr. It was just BLEH. Our table was clean which is very important to us and our waitress Yasmin was kind and patient with our questions, and dietary substitutions. We ordered the Super Saiyan Nachos as an appetizer for $16. Maaann, these were so delicious!!!!! Not that we were counting because we were INDULGED in those nachos LOL Babii rated her Oxtail Ramen a '7/10' for $25. She would've preferred to get shiitake mushrooms because she particularly didn't like the fact that the Oxtails were shredded and not on the bone (which is what we both expected when reading it). She also would've liked if they gave her a spice option since she likes spicy ramen. Unfortunately, we had to purchase a nasty 'Kappa' sauce which was not worth the $1.50. To her the portion size was A1, however we paid for the meat so it wasn't worth the $25. Now, the Vegetable Garden to me was a '8.5/10' it was good, had amazing portion size and they were not lacking in the texture department. I mean, the spinach noodles were delish, vegetable cooked very Al dente. I cannot complain on that part. To me it was missing a bit of flavor, maybe salt would've done the trick. Me and some of my coworkers were hungry for a good late night meal and not much is open but this great place. The oxtail ramen is flavorful, season well and cooked perfectly. The service was too. This place looked so cool. Anime decor and projectors of anime on the back. However, you cant see hear the anime or anything like that. So, it is there mostly to give you the anime vibes. It's not small inside it's actually spacious for a ramen place. It was definitely unique knowing the place is 24/7. I tried a few of their appetizing one being the gyoza (they had chicken or pork, I got chicken). The gyoza was really flavorful and just dripping with sauce. I am hoping to try their ramen next time. Service was decent I did wait awhile to get refills on my water and for the check. I don't feel like it was a busy night either. This ramen restaurant is the only one I know in Houston that is open 24 hours a day. There is limited parking available out front and some towards the rear. The vibes are very casual with an anime sort of theme inside. It is quite dim lit and not too noisy the times I've been, mostly on early weekday evenings. Service can be a hit or miss, but the wait for the actual order to come to the table is longer than expected especially when the house isn't packed. While the menu is fairly small and mainly ramen, they offer some rice dishes and your average Japanese style apps including edamame, gyoza, and karaage, and some fusion items like nachos and tacos. The bar menu is alright and they offer happy hour specials too. We've tried a few of their apps and found them to be very mid. Without sauces, bland. We've also ordered ramen as build-your-own as well as signature bowls. The ramen noodles (yellow which is part of the base price, spinach +2, or konjac +4) were soft and slightly chewy, what a good bounce! Choosing the broth is where it can make it or break it... I found lots of flavor in their miso (creamy pork broth with slight heat) but not so much in the other options. Where it can really add up is the toppings. Most vegetable toppings are roughly a dollar while additonal protein is $3-6, but the quality is not all that great. For instance, the pork and chicken were more on the dry and tough end, whereas the typical pork chashu in ramen is tender and moist...maybe they got overcooked? Same with the eggs...not much flavor and not with the soft yolky center. While I don't consider this restaurant as an authentic ramen spot nor a true Japanese restaurant (I don't think that's what they're trying to be either), I want to think Shokku is a place where friends can hangout and enjoy a warm bowl of noodles and a drink even when it's 3am. I'm not 100% opposed to coming back if friends really really want to, but it is not my top choice because of all the other great ramen spots in town. read more

I have been wanting to try this place for years. I'm never nearby unless for an event so I finally made a conscious effort to go. Loved that it's always open so a friend and I decided to go late last weekend. Glad I read about the parking so I knew to park in the next lot. Even though it was busy we did get sat pretty quickly. We had dumplings they were okay I'd say 6/10. I had the oxtail ramen and my friend got the surf and turf. The oxtail had good flavor but her beef was bland. Both of our brothers were lacking in flavor. The server was able to give us some sauce on the side to enhance. Overall they do have different options compared to your usual ramen spot however the broth just isn't doing it for me. Drinks were on point but they took about 20 mins. Came by Shokku Ramen on a Sunday evening for some ramen and sat at the bar for quicker service. I don't enjoy any ramen spots in Houston so I didn't set high hopes for Shokku. The bartender was really nice and attentive, which made the experience smooth from the start. I ordered the vegan ramen with spinach noodles, and my friend went with ramen that had a vegan broth, chicken, and spinach noodles. Both bowls were decent and relatively satisfying. The only downside was that it was so cold inside the restaurant that I couldn't fully enjoy the meal. I was ready to head out sooner than I would've liked. I even asked if they could turn the air down a bit but they couldn't. I had ordered the Surf & Turf Ramen and the Shrimp Tempura tasted like frozen food. I had also tasted my wife's ramen and both were average taste. The ambiance is decent for us having a very late dinner (about 11pm). There are unlimited of better ramen spots though, especially in H-Town. First time at SR with my family to celebrate my birthday. We went late at night and it wasn't as busy but got very busy after we were seated. The hostess was nice. Our server was amazing! Very attentive and patient with us and helpful with suggestions. I ended up trying the December special ramen and it was delicious. I actually had a good experience at Shokku ramen. A few notes: Food was really delicious. I got the Shokku tacos and they were really delicious. I'd 100% get those again. I can't speak for the ramen but I was definitely impressed by my tacos. I thought the vibe was nice here. It was cool that they had anime playing on the walls. This is their spiciest Ramen, but the spice comes on the side so you can determine your level. Caution, as it is very hot! At first taste of the broth, it seemed bland to me. This is not the case. Try to stir it as much as you can. All of the good flavor fell to the bottom of the bowl. Very good broth. Not your typical ramen, but it was still good. Only 2 things I didn't like. Paper straws. Why?!?! Those things always fall apart. 2nd was I love just a plain old iced black Unsweet tea. They had the raspberry kind from a fountain machine or green tea. I opted for the green tea as I usually like that. It was a little too sweet for my taste, and I don't believe there are free refills. Other than those 2 things, it was pretty good. Good option for late night meals. I'm not a fan of fast food, so when I can avoid it, I will, but seeing was a Tuesday at 10pm... the options were slim pickings. Luckily, we found this place and immediately had to check it out. Parking out front is pretty limited but the actual restaurant itself is pretty spacious, lots of table available. The restaurant is anime themed. There are multiple TVs airing different animes, anime character dedicated items on the menu, and anime plastered all over the walls. We were seated pretty quickly despite it being busy. The menu is pretty short and straight forward. As far as ramen goes, there are only 6 bowls of offered on the menu HOWEVER there is a Build Your Own Bowl option, so if you think about it... the options are limitless. I did the Build Your Own and asked for the Shinigami spice on the side. The server warned us of its potency, so I added a pea-sized bit to the broth. I thought it was fine and still needed more spice, so I added a fat glob. Big Mistake - the spice level went from a 3 to a 9 and my mouth was on fire. I still finished my bowl, the broth was good, and they give very generous portions of the add-ons. Only downside was that I request no scallions still received a huge portion of scallion in my bowl. The server noticed and offered to have the kitchen remake my bowl, but I declined since I felt it was wasteful. The service was great! The entire staff seems friendly and our server stayed on top of it. I did think the menu was a little pricey, but I'm thinking that's just the premium for 24-hour service. I was very impressed with this place. The food was really good. I went with my older sons and they both love anime so it was very fitting. I stumbled upon this gem because I was on a cleanse and not eating gluten so I wanted a gluten free ramen. They have Konjac noodles here and I was curious. Honestly I enjoyed this noodles so much I would definitely order them again not even being gluten free. My boys really enjoyed their ramen too. We waited about 40 min when they texted us. Over all the service by Maggie was pretty great. She was attentive and had a positive attitude even through the hustle and bustle. We ordered the chicken dripping Gyoza (8/10) which the dumplings themselves could have used some more seasoning however the sauce they drown them is was 10/10 delicious.
