Really great vegetarian banh mi, my favorite place for vegetarian Banh mi honestly. Good bread and good veggie meat. They can also make it vegan but I prefer having mayonnaise. I love coming here every time I'm in the area.

This place is a treasure for all vegetarians!! :) Since their closing time is early (6 pm), I haven't been able to come here so often but today I made it! I got some tomato based soup noodles and wanton soup baked noodle and they were very good!! :) They have amazing food options in the morning and early lunch time so if you wanna see varieties I recommend you to come earlier! I like the service here and peaceful environment! :) Come and enjoy vegetarian diets! Cheers

It's a Vietnamese vegetarian place that offers groceries/and deli (to go or dine in). The takeout counter is a little hectic. Prices range - some things are cheap and some aren't (everything is made in house so some things get a pass for being high). My mom always gets the soy milk (unsweetened) at the Chinese grocery store so we decided to venture here to get it fresh from the source. There's a lot of good finds here. The parking lot is small and cramped so I recommend going early or not on the busy weekend.

I have been to San San Tofu 山山豆腐 many times to pick up vegetarian groceries few years ago. Just recently, my friend Cathy wanted to show a group of people that vegan dim sum exists in Houston Chinatown. This is not a fancy restaurant nor with a full service. So, don't ask much, just look. As I walked in, grocery store was the first thing I see. Walk towards the left if their restaurant. Employees are very friendly. But not everyone speaks fluent English. So, be patient. One side of food warmer is for lunch box. Next one is the dim sum display. Further, the restaurant cashier is at the end of the line. You can order banh mi or noodles or anything from the menu that is not on display. Food has gone up due to inflation, this is nothing new across the country. So, the two-item and three-item lunch is really reasonable. I ordered some dim sum and asked for a knife to cut them for sharing. They gave me a pair of scissors instead. Three pieces of any type of Dim Sum is $5.50. All vegan. Don't complain there is not meat. Even though they have chicken and beef on the menu. I also ordered Bún bò Huế with vegetarian beef. Sigh... The "beef" is flavored textured soy protein slices. The display looks like the real thing. Vegan version of real thing actually tasted pretty good. Don't overthink what the real thing tastes like. If you want fresh vegan dim sum, best to come before noon. You'll get the real taste of San San Tofu.

Walking in I didn't realize this was also a grocery store and was happily surprised by all the vegetarian and vegan products! I ended up getting the combination house Banh Mi. It was stacked with filling. The daikon was the highlight of the sandwich, it was super sweet and crunchy. I do wish there were more greens in the sandwich. The meat dupes were not bad but did not remind me of meat at all. I thought the pate was kind of bland. Overall glad I tried the sandwich but I don't think I would get it again. Service is what you would typically expect for an asian restaurant.

This is a hidden gem! Restaurant to the left with delicious vegan food and the grocery store to right to purchase a variety of food and more made in the kitchen. I've been back several times since my first visit the service is always good, dinning area is well maintained. Looking for a good vegan restaurant add San San Tofu to your list.

This place is magical for anyone who's on a vegetarian diet. The food is super fresh and tasty. The staff is the nicest ever! You'll be so lucky if the manager Kimberly is taking care of you. Highly recommended!

BBQ buns & veggie buns and tofu spring rolls

My sister and I came here to get take out. We opted for the bbq buns and the veggie buns. We also got the tofu spring rolls. Everything was good, but my favorite was definitely the tofu spring rolls. We also picked up a few grocery items like the instant Vietnamese coffee, some noodles, and dried bananas. This is an interesting place for grabbing a quick bite or for ordering take out. I will be back next time in the area.

Honestly. If you a vegetarian. This might be the place for you. Tbh I'm pretty tofu'd out. The flavors were nice, but it started to feel repetitive. I started out enjoying it, then as the meal went on, I started to dread finishing.

San San Tofu is one of my FAVORITE places in the bellaire area! I am vegetarian and it is so affordable. My sister is also allergic to shellfish so it is one of the few places in bellaire she can eat because everything there is vegan! The combo plates are less than $13 and I always have leftover. I definitely recommend always getting at least one vegetable with your combo because otherwise all the imitation meat loses its tang. Also come around peak lunch time (11am-1pm). If you come too early or late they won't have soup and the soup is amazing!

The lunch plate! Stir-fried eggplant, green beans, some fried tofu and noodles with sour soup and green tea.

Trying out new places means I've been eating a lot of meat recently, so when my husband asked where we should go for a 'lighter' lunch, San San Tofu was a great compromise. Non-meat options don't tend to fill him up, but I was pretty hungry - and we both left satisfied. San San's lunch specials haven't changed in price since late last year, so it's still around $10 for three items plus rice or noodles. Everything's served cafeteria-style, and the ladies dishing up the food were very nice even though we don't speak Vietnamese - you can just point to the food and they'll ladle a generous portion onto your plate. We both opted for the green beans and fried tofu, but I decided to get eggplant (seems to be a popular dish - there wasn't much left!) while he went for a vegan take on 'Shaking Beef'. After our entrees were plated, we just had to wait for someone to grab our soup and drinks from behind the counter, and we paid with cash. Both our entrees came with a bowl of what I'm pretty sure was a vegetarian Canh Chua - and while the husband wasn't a fan of its surprisingly sour taste, I found it was a great palate cleanser between the various oily dishes. The eggplant was especially great with a little of the chili oil from the table, and the tofu pieces were thick and hearty with a 'house made' quality, without being too greasy. Iced tea is also included with lunch if you dine in; ours was still pretty hot when we got it, the ice melted pretty much instantly, but all we had to do was ask nicely and we got an additional cup of ice. Refills don't seem to be offered, but the food is nicely seasoned and not too salty, so we didn't find ourselves needing one. Overall, it was pretty good. Cheap, all-vegetarian, and a good selection of hot dishes even on the weekends. Next time I'll probably come earlier to try the Dim Sum (at around 1 pm they were sold out of practically everything), and even my meat-loving husband is interested in the "chicken" noodle soup that's new on their menu.

Still a local favorite spot I love to visit for lunch to get soup or hot lunch items! They have a grocery side you can browse along with other ready made food items you can grab and go. I love the vegetarian noodle dish they have packaged at the register. When dining in you get a free hot or cold tea with your meal. The service is good the ladies do speak enough English to help when ordering.

I love this restaurant, if I lived closer, I would be here every week! Ha!…read more I was introduced to this restaurant via Lou MC (a fellow Yelper/friend of many years), he had a UYE here and I was one of the attendees. I came back for a solo lunch on Sunday, the restaurant wasn't packed. It's not a modernized place, but it is clean and there was no roaches in sight! There isn't a weird odor either. It appears to be family owned as the two times I've been there is a lady, a young guy, and an older man to be working. My absolute favorites are the veg grilled chicken (my mouth is salivating as I type this), veg fried rice, veg fish, veg meatloaf, and the string beans with veg meat pieces. The sweet and sour soup is tasty too. With the grilled veg chicken; that's the star of the show! Lays on a bed of lettuce with cucumber and tomatoes on the side, the faux chicken tastes way better than grilled bird. The flavor is slightly sweet, but savory and has grilled tips. It's chewy texture and full of flavor with each bite. I think they marinate it with something because it's so divine! The fried rice resembles the non-vegan version; flavorful on its own, but once I add the soy sauce the flavor intensifies into yummy goodness. It has tiny pieces of fried tofu to replace the eggs and loaded with veggies. The meatloaf is doused in savory sauce, but the faux meatloaf is tasty too. The veg fish in the sweet and sour soup was very yummy; the soup broth smooth and didn't have any chunky parts of vegetables. When I went yesterday, there was numerous calls for takeout orders. This place is popping! I was served chrysanthem tea loose leaf; the taste wasn't overpowering and it tasted like water. Very subtle. Oh and the dumplings are good too! Thick in size and crunchy hard shell, not soggy. Huge portions and matched with inexpensive prices. This restaurant is a win win in my book. Despite busyness, they appear to handle it well and don't have long wait times for your meal to arrive. The flavor and portion profile reminds me of Trendy Vegan. You'll get more bang for your buck! Service is cordial; the waiters and waitress doesn't seem too interested in table service or getting to know you. That's alright since I was watching a movie as I ate. If I had to rank Asian vegan options: Quan Yin (#1), Trendy Vegan (#2), and then Pine Forest (#3). Located in a huge parking lot, you'll sure find a spot to park.

Hopefully it's because they had a ton of people working in the back. Hopefully. I ordered the Magic Mushroom Tacos and thought it was a beautiful plate. My favorite thing about the dish is the tortillas. It had a nice light crisp to it and kept all the fillings intact from start to finish. The "Magic Mushrooms" were good but could have been better if the batter were lighter and crispier. The batter was a little on the heavy and dense side for me. I also think the sauce could be even better if it had a bit less oil and a bit more flavor. I really enjoyed the potato slices and the fresh berries were a great way to cleanse the palate. My lunch date ordered the Biscuit and gravy dish and thought it was good. We also ordered a side of the Belgian waffle to share. I thought the waffle on its own was extremely sweet and way too dense for my liking. It was a beautiful day, so it would have been the perfect day to eat outside if you like that. I'm an eat indoors kind of person, but if you like to eat outside, they do have a few tables for that. I was meeting a friend for lunch and she suggested Ember & Green. We really couldn't decide what to order, so we decided to order a few things and share them. We started off with the Persian Cucumber Sald. It had Persian cucumbers, heirloom cherry tomatoes, red onions, and Kalamata olives with oil and lemon dressing and topped with parsley and feta cheese. Let me tell you, thats lemon dressing was delicious! It went so well with the cucumbers. Next we ordered Blackened salmon with lemon butter and avocado salsa, served with charred broccolini, roasted carrots and potatoes on a bed of cilantro green pea quinoa. I'm really not a huge fan of salmon, but I'm trying to like it more by trying it different ways. The spices that they put on the salmon were really good, not too spicy, but also, not bland. It was also cooked perfectly. Oh, and that lemon butter... that lemon butter made the meal if you ask me. It was so good. So good in fact, I had to try and make salmon with lemon butter at him the very next week. Mine didn't come out as good as Ember & Greens, but it was decent. That just means that I need to leave the cooking to the professional. For dessert we decided to share the Skillet Cookie. Its a house made chocolate chip cookie baked in a cast iron skillet and topped with Amy's Mexican Vanilla Ice Cream and chocolate sauce. This was the only thing that we ordered that was a nope. I dont know what happened, but it didn't seem like it was cooked at all in the middle. We took a few bites, that was all we could eat of it. All and all, it was a good experience and I will go back. I'll just skip dessert next time.
