I just tried their bún riêu đặt biệt and I have to admit that this is the best bun rieu in texas period. It's $15 so more expensive than typical Vietnamese dish but definitely worth it.
Anytime I want to eat vermicelli with fresh crab noodle soup (Bun Rieu Cua), I only go to this restaurant. Their Bun Rieu Cua is the best. The broth is tasty. I like their pennywort juice mixed with tiny yellow beans. The service is alright. The owner is a very nice lady. It's a tiny restaurant with simple interior decoration. If anyone would like to try Bun Rieu in the Houston, TX area, I would highly recommend this restaurant.
By a long shot, tastiest bun rieu I've had in a restaurant in a LONG time. Depth in the broth is where it needs to be, layers upon layers of flavor between the crab, pork, and unctuousness of the mam rouc. It's the closest I've had to the old Quan Ba Tho downtown, and all you Viet OG's know what a high bar they set. We had two bowls of the Dac Biet (special) today. It comes with oc (escargot) sliced thinly, huyet (blood cake), fried tofu, a delish lemongrass cha made with pork and oc, fresh quartered tomatoes, and of course the rieu (crab meat beaten with egg and pork). If you want some mam rouc/tom (shrimp paste) on the side to dip or add more to your soup, just ask. The bun is a medium thickness, not the thinner vermicelli, which I prefer the thicker noodles. The plate of herbs was fresh, had the green and purple perilla, sprouts, and shaved banana blossoms...the latter a rarity these days. Rieu Cua has earned a high spot in our Chi-Town rotation of places to hit up. The lady helping us there didn't start out super friendly, but warmed up to us after chatting a little in Vietnamese and after she realized we knew our way around a good bowl of Bun Rieu. Very nice lady. Btw, the Bo Bia was really good too!
First timer today. I had bún riêu special no onions (unfortunately, they accidentally had onions and scooped it out, but still some left, which is fine, but be careful next time). The soup isn't flavors enough but not bad. overall, it's not bad at all.
this is the place. spent many weekends trying to find our new go to spot for bun rieu since moving here. everything was on point. broth, the rieu. yum. the inside is your typical asian restaurant- "cozy"...not modern and clean enough lol anyways best bun rieu i've had in houston and will come back
Id say its legit but missing a lot umami the broth lacks depth in flavor its ok plus you cannot taste any crab in it at all, actually barely for one square piece of rieu cua ,its very lacking in any bone broth, not sure at all because only one thing that sticks out are the veggies and the egg rolls were very crispy and flavorful except the size here is extra small even for a regular bowl of crab noodle soup is actually absent in crab or shrimp taste at this place , I can see why the place is never filled up because you charge for 2 extra piece of rieu for $6 but doesn't seem to taste any crab in this standard serving bowl. So if you can pay extra to get a very skimpy crab pattie it easily can add up to a pricey $$$ rieu. I would just skip the rieu cua all together and just order the egg rolls next time and other special dishes instead, the broth was ok at its mediocre best, not at all authentic and you will be dissatisfied if you are here for some crabs.
Location: This place is easy to get to with plenty of parking in the lot of the plaza. There's about 10 tables in total and when I came on a Sunday afternoon around 1pm, there was no wait and plenty of available tables Food & Drink: I've only been here twice and each time I have ordered the Com Chien Bo Luc Lac (#16 on the menu). It's their filet mignon cooked with garlic, onions, and jalepeños. Their steak is never dry, and their garlic and jalepeños are cooked down so their soft and so flavorful. The jalepeños are not spicy at all which I like. I also love their coconut juice! Service: Service was so quick and efficient between when I placed my order and when I got the food. Pricing: Very reasonable and very filling! Would Return: Yes!
UPDATE- they now take cards!! Minimum $10. Same great service and this time they came back to check on me. :) **** I've finally found it! The BEST bun rieu in Houston! It only took me 3.5 years... but better late than never. I went to a business next door and I saw this place and figured it wouldn't hurt to try. Before you enter, know that it's a CASH ONLY business. Upon entering, I was surprised by the clean and simple restaurant decor. It's cozy and quaint. The main speciality is Bun Rieu (vermicelli crab/tomato soup). I ordered that and Bo Bia spring rolls (breakfast type fresh roll). Bo Bia - Warm and fresh with a side of peanut sauce. It's filled with shredded carrots/radish, Chinese pork sausage, and eggs. Perfect size to share for 2-3 people. Bun Rieu Dac Biet - From the periwinkle to the tofu, it was fricking yummy! My only complaint is there wasn't enough banana leaves and Vietnamese water spinach (they're usually served in spirals). The staff was friendly, but they didn't come back to check how things were during the meal or bring out the bill. Something I am willing to overlook because of the food and quality. Definitely will be back to try the other items!
First, the Bun Rieu Dac Biet has everything: snails, crab patties, regular fried tofu, stuffed tofu, blood cake, and tomatoes -- good for those who will wonder what's inside. I'd say their Bun Rieu is pretty good. The broth was light and flavorful, not too salty. Their Bun Rieu Dac Biet comes only in one size, and it was filling. It would be nice if they add a bit more snails and crab patties because I nearly missed the snail slices. Overall, a solid noodle bowl. Goi Oc: this salad wasn't bad but it could be better. I like sweetened fish sauce but a bit more sourness can definitely elevate the sauce. I like that the salad was drenched in the sauce - it really gives it flavor. However, the snails were tough and easily overlooked by how thinly sliced they are. It was a little oily for a salad, partly due to the cooked snails and tons of fried onions. I liked their hot tea. Majority of other Vietnamese restaurants will give you black tea or green tea for if ordered hot., but they gave us a nice big pot of chrysanthemum tea - good to cleanse the palate after a meal. The server was quick to take my order and food arrived fast! The place is small and cozy with traditonal/cultural Vietnamese decor.
This is the best Bun Rieu ever. Great and friendly service. Nice and clean little restaurant. Highly recommend it.
The Bun Rieu was decent. The best Bun Rieu that I've ever had was in Washington DC. I've been trying to find something similar since ... the search continues.
A Vietnamese friend recommended Rieu Cua for its bún riêu, so I decided to give it a try. Whenever I'm craving this tomato and crab noodle soup, I usually go to another restaurant on Bellaire, but this may have just become my new favorite. Located in a strip center with plenty of parking, the restaurant was quiet when I visited on a weekday afternoon, with only a couple of other tables occupied. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Their specialty is bún riêu, which comes in a small ($9.75) or large ($10.50). They also serve bún riêu ốc (with snails), dry vermicelli bowls, and other Vietnamese favorites, but if it's your first visit, I'd recommend trying the restaurant's signature bún riêu. I ordered the large bowl and was impressed. The rich tomato and crab broth was flavorful, and the bowl was generously filled with crab cakes, tofu, tomatoes, and several cubes of pork blood--much more than most places serve. The soup also came with the traditional garnishes of basil, chopped lettuce, bean sprouts, and lime wedges, allowing you to customize each bite. My only criticism is that, for a large bowl, it came with fewer noodles than I'm used to at other restaurants. I wish it had a bit more noodles to better balance all of the toppings and broth. I'll definitely be back. This may become my go-to spot for bún riêu in Houston's Little Saigon. If you're a fan of this classic Vietnamese soup or have never tried it before, Rieu Cua is well worth a visit. read more
Bún riêu is my favorite Vietnamese noodle soup, so I decided to try this restaurant after seeing several recommendations. It is just outside Chinatown and was easy to find. We were seated right away and ordered the traditional large bún riêu. They also have a version with snails, but we wanted to try the classic one first. The food came out quickly. The broth was served very hot, which I really liked, and the crab cake was excellent. You could really taste the crab, and it seemed better than what I've had at other places. My only complaint is that the large bowl didn't have as many noodles as other restaurants I usually visit. I wish they were a little more generous with the portion. While we were eating, a group of Vietnamese customers came in, and most of them ordered bún riêu too, which made me feel like we picked the right place. Overall, I would definitely come back. The soup and crab cake were worth it, parking was easy, and they accept credit cards. read more
I was in a weird food mood where I knew I was hungry but had no cravings. However, I was headed towards Chinatown and remembered there was a bun rieu place sorta on the edge of it and I haven't had bun rieu in ages so why not. The restaurant itself is pretty small but not busy at like 2pm on a Sunday afternoon. We were quickly sat and provided menus and water. I ordered the egg rolls and the bun rieu dac biet and my partner got the shaken beef with macaroni. I liked my bun rieu, it had a good seafood and tomato flavor without being too fishy. I've never had bun rieu with sea snail but it was a welcome texture and flavor in my soup. I did find the crab omelette a bit fishy for my tastes but the snail sausage/ham was wonderful, with nice flavors of lemongrass throughout. The egg rolls were also excellent, nice and crispy. I also really enjoyed my partner's shaken beef as both the beef and the macaroni had a wonderul wok hei (smokiness/char for the non canto folks). I think prices were fair/a bit high for the food/portions but also current state of affairs may mean this is just our new normal. Anyways, I enjoyed my food and would come again if I were out this far. I'm not sure if I'd make the trip out just for this though, maybe I'll try their bbh next time as that also looked really good! read more

Love going here for the com Bo luv lac but please change out your boxes or put a veggie leaf under the hot food! This cannot be safe to consume and it sucks to have to ask each time, we feed our children this so we would probably come back once the packaging is better. read more

Plenty of parking and no wait for us. Came here on a recommendation for vietnamese bun rieu noodle soup. The atmosphere is very casual and not a big place. Ordered the special bun rieu and the bo luc lac (beef steak cubes) with fried rice. Both were surprisingly good. The soup was flavored very well, and the beef was also marinaded perfectly. Would definitely come back when I'm craving this. read more

Came here with my mom because I was craving for some bun rieu. The restaurant is pretty small and there weren't many people inside. The service is typical of what you would see at any regular asian restaurant. BUN RIEU DAC BIET- vermicelli with fresh crab and snail soup I've had worse bun rieu around town so this place is not too bad, but I know what fresh crab tastes like because my mom makes it at home and she spends hours and hours just to take the crab meat out of blue crabs; so for them to say that they make it with only fresh crab is so not true. I did taste some fresh crabs, but they mixed it with other things as well. This bowl was expensive for only a few crabs and snails. The broth was not too flavorful, but it wasn't bland. I wouldn't order it again though. I would just wait for my mom to make it. BANH CANH GIO HEO- vietnamese hand cut rice noodles pork soup I liked the flavors in this soup. You could really taste the dried onions and the broth was light, but savory. The meat to noodle ratio was perfect and the pork was sliced thinly and were flavorful. The rice noodle were more filling than vermicelli noodles because they expand in water; so it was good that they didn't give too much. This place is okay, but it's expensive. I wouldn't mind coming back, but if my mom was to make it every time I was craving for these soups than I wouldn't come back. If you don't have anyone to cook these things at home then I recommend coming here to try out these two soups, but if you do then just pass on the opportunity. read more

My friends and i came to give this place another chance (and also because their BO LUC LAC) Their bun rieu is not good. The goi oc (snail salad) portion is big ( because its $14 i guess) but I didn't like it at all. We also tried bun dau mam tom. It was ok. I just didn't like the dish itself. We will only come back for BO LUC LAC. read more
