    Meatball
    Brandon D.

My uncle took me to thim hing banh mi to grab a sandwich for dinner later that night. The parking was packed but there is a huge empty lot around the corner. I decided to get the meatball sandwich to change things up this time. I believe they only take cash here. The sandwich was really good! The meatball was so tender and flavorful, I'm really glad I tried something different this time. The only thing I would complain about is that they don't fill the sandwich up as much as other places but the taste is very solid

Xiu Mai banh mi with extra butter and $3 worth of extra Xiu Mai. So 8 small Xiu Mai for $9.50... So sad.

One of my most favorite banh mi shops of all. Bread is amazing. Fillings are high quality and delicious. Service is adequate. However, portion sizes are so small over the years. My favorite is the Banh Mi Xiu Mai. Over the holidays I got a large and it was pathetically small. The meatballs were tiny and they barely have any to fill up half a sandwich. So this time I added $3 worth of meatballs. Got my sandwich and it was still too small. Didn't even fill up the whole bread loaf. I asked them and they said 5 meatballs come on a large. So 3 small meatballs for $3?!?! Ok. Next time I'll order 6 extra... Ridiculously over priced but it's still good so I will pay.

Top 3 banh mi place in my eyes! So sad banh mi is at $5 nowadays, but inflation is unavoidable. Pretty easy to order, short line, and there's an easy-to-read menu. I got the large grilled pork, which came on a long skinny baguette, classic! Comes with all the toppings I love: carrot, cilantro, cucumber, and the special mayo. $11 to get really FULL. Their menu also have a lot of noodle soups, which is different from other banh mi shops, in case you're not feeling sandwiches. Parking can be a little tough. Oh! And grab some egg tarts at EKG Bakery in the next plaza over, you can just walk over.

One of my favorite Banh Mi places in Houston. The baguette is crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside. Great ratio of meat, vegetables, and butter. Incredibly cheap prices as well... $5.50 for a large! Make sure to bring cash!

Combination Banh Mi with veggies in the side

Thim Hing is one of the oldest banh mi shops in Houston. Growing up, my dad use to take my sister and I here pretty much every week, when it was still just across from Hong Kong City Mall. And we always loved it. A few years ago, Thim Hing moved a block down and it was still just as delicious as I remembered it to be. Unfortunately, though it is still a good sandwich, they really REALLY cut down in the amount of filling they give. I had ordered the combination banh mi with veggies in the side, and the lack of meat was appalling. Eating this, you're basically just filling up on bread. I think the entire banh Mi had a total of 1 meatball, 2 small slices cold pork meat, 3 slices of Cha lua (pork) and a thin long pate stick. There's always a line of people here waiting to pick up bulk orders on the weekend. Next time, instead of waiting, I'd rather head down a block to Nguyen Ngo and get a banh mi there instead.

Tasty sandwich, small portions. Thim Hing has but a banh mi staple in Houston for years and years and years. I remember my childhood years were filled with weekend runs to Thim Hing with my family. Their sandwiches have always been quite tasty but their portions have been diminishing. Ordered a combination sandwich for lunch on a Sunday. Got home, opened the sandwich, and found four thin slices of meat and one meatball. At $4+ for a large sandwich, one would expect a little more. The veggies were ordered on the side which offered a glimpse into just how little filling is really inside. I do admit, what I got was quite tasty. Is it a good sandwich? Yes. Is it worth the price with so many other options around? Not really. Overall, I think this place is worth a try but there are better deals around.

Have you ever missed sui cao quan 5 ?? This is your place! Taste exactly like Saigon ! I really really love it. A must try hidden gem !!!!!! With the price going up everywhere like crazy, this place is unbeatable!

Please fire this girl. Worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life.

Its super casual and has the restaurant portion for sit down dining and quite a bit of takeout/vegetarian ingredients. My partner and I came in a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty quiet. Staff were extremely kind and friendly. You order and pay at the cashier then sit at a table to wait for your orser. We got the vegetarian cold cut combo banh mi, the lo mein, and the rice rolls. Everything was full of flavor and we did not miss animal protein. The banh mi had a nice, crisp bread along with a good amount of veggies and vegetarian cold cuts. The lo mein was very flavorful and the mushrooms really stood out as a nice unami bomb. The veggies were well cooked too and maintained crispness. My favorite was the rice rolls, which had the perfect texture, velvety, slightly QQ, and had a great filling along with a nice sauce. The veggies that accompanied it were a great addition too. My partner and I ended up getting a couple of their ready made dishes to take home and they were only $8 each. They were also delicious (basil kidney and stuffed bitter melon). I think the food here is solid and still affordable. To me, its a great restaurant that puts out good food that also happens to be vegetarian. I really didn't miss meat with my meals here and can't wait to come back!

The older lady behind the counter that puts the Banh Mis and drinks together is the sweetest and friendliest. She's always so incredibly welcoming but it's a hit or miss with the guys at the counter. The menu consists of a lot of processed mock meat and dry mushrooms so my favorite dishes to oder are the Banh Mi Bi and Mi Xao noodle dish with tofu as these do not have mock meat in them. They have a wide variety of ready-to-eat, packaged hot foods and desserts on display for customers to grab and go. They also make a delicious, refreshing artichoke drink that isn't overly sweet. I definitely recommend giving them a try if you're vegan or simply just in the mood for vegan. Note: There's a discount for cash payment.

Nguyen Ngo was our first banh mi stop and also our last. I'm really very particular about my banh mi and have a firm POV on what a great dac biet (combo/special) should include (and accept that this is my own preference and that others may disagree!). My checklist below is typically where I find the most variance from shop-to-shop, as almost all places include the requisite jalapeños and cilantro: - Bread: soft with a thin, crispy crust and the crust should not be so hard that it scratches the top of your mouth - Condiments: pate should be fairly generous and flavorful and there shouldn't be so much mayo that it's dripping out of the bread - Pickled veggies: should be close to 50/50 between carrots and daikon - Cold cuts: has to have cha lua (steamed pork sausage) and gio thu (Vietnamese head cheese, preferably one that doesn't have much of the ear as it's too crunchy). I'm fine if it also includes thit nguoi, but don't require it. I don't like thit nuong is included though, as I find it makes the sandwich too heavy So how does Nguyen Ngo stack up against my list? - Bread: 10/10, probably the best bread I've had for banh mi. No idea if they bake it themselves or if they purchase it, but they're definitely doing it right - Condiments: 10/10, perfect balance, but the standout was definitely the pate. It was creamy with a strong flavor, but not overly liver-tasting. I thought about it all week and even considered flying a tub of it back home with me (I did not, but might do it next time) - Pickled veggies: 5/10, mostly carrots with a tiny bit of daikon. Also leaned a touch more sweet than I prefer and maybe not pickled for quite long enough? It was nice and crunchy, but the main drawback was not having enough daikon in the mix - Cold cuts: 8/10, they don't offer gio thu or the kind of cha lua that I like in my banh mi, but the thit, jambon, and saucisson were a good enough combo that it didn't throw me off too much We ordered their dac biet on the first day, which includes this shredded chicken that I really didn't care for. The consistency was almost like pork floss, but less tasty. On the last day, we chose the 4 ingredient banh mi and got it with pate, thit, jambon, and saucisson and that was much more to our liking. We bought 9 to take back home to share with our families (plus a couple extra for us), and they did an excellent job of packing the veggies separately!

First time I was here, I ordered just a combination banh mi. It was delicious, meats were filling and seasoned nicely. The bread was toasted just right. Decided to come back last night with my friend. I got their Bo ne and a Thai tea & my friend ordered the shredded chicken banh mi. I thought that my dish would be shareable but it wasn't. The portions were small for the price but I still left pretty full. The sauce on the Bo ne was delicious and seasoned perfectly. Bread was crispy and flaky on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Idk if they make their pate/butter in-house but it was the best I've had. The steak was also tendered and the egg was cooked just right with a runny yolk. My Thai tea was solid but wasn't as sweet as I would've liked it. My friend shredded chicken banh mi was also very good. Crispy baguette, chicken was tendered and veggies were filling. Overall, this is a good hidden spot for some good banh mi. The service was quick and the owner was nice. The person who brought out the food was very kind. They also have a buy 5 sandwiches and get one free. Prices are reasonable and the food is good. Will I come back? Yes. I need to try their banh mi bo kho next time.
