YUM! Duy Sandwiches was an amazing find for vegetarian Vietnamese food in Alief/Sharpstown! I love visiting this part of town to have authentic Vietnamese dishes but often struggle to find tofu options, especially for banh mi, as most places only offer pork, beef, or chicken and I don't eat meat. I actually ended up finding Duy through Google Maps while looking for new banh mi spots and was thoroughly pleased. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The store is fairly small but offers both packaged prepared food items, as well as hot dishes to order.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Their menu has a lot of options and everything is reasonably priced. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have several tables to sit and eat or you can get your order packaged to go.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I actually stopped by around 9am with the intention of getting a sandwich but ended up going with the bun bo hue with tofu which was super flavorful and filling. If you want a little more kick, they have all of the fixings to spice up it up - hoisin sauce, chili oil, sriracha, soy sauce and pepper - yes, please! Don't worry though, I got my banh mi to go for later because it's a *necessity*! Great find. Definitely will be back!

Wow. A vegetarian mom and pop store that serves delicious, fresh food. We've tried a variety of their noodles in addition to their banh mi and everything is made fresh and is a hit. Their shredded chicken and also their combo banh mi are full of flavor and the bread has just the right amount of crunch/freshness. The store itself has a large variety of offerings as well - from spices to vegetarian meats to fresh rice rolls. Everyone that works there is super friendly. Definitely worth a stop if you're looking for a great vegetarian place in the area. Note that it is on the wilcrest side and just around the corner from Quan Yin.
This is a grab and go or dine inside cafe, and it is predominantly vegetarian. On one side of the cafe, there is a huge table with an array of already prepared dishes of tofu, vegetables, egg rolls, spring rolls, snacks, and there are desserts lined up at the counter and refrigerated shelves. [[HIGHLIGHT]]On the other side of the cafe, there are tables to sit and eat, and there are menus stacked up on the counter to view.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When I walked in, there were two guys sitting at a table, so there was no service or staff to wait on them at all (probably not needed). The cashier at the counter was quick in totaling up the cost and packaging of my containers into a bag, so it was an easy 'get and go' deal for me. I tried the fried rice, which was mixed with vegetables and tofu, and it was a little bland - had to add black pepper and spicy sauce to eat it. The stir fried beans, carrots, and tofu was lightly seasoned as well, so if you like well seasoned dishes, this would not be the ideal location. I have yet to try the variety of other dishes and desserts they offer, but they do offer clean and healthy vegan options.
I wanted to check this spot out, since I've had it bookmarked for some time. It's all vegetarian. I'm not vegetarian, but it's nice to eat just veggie's sometimes. We came in and ordered their lemongrass tofu banh mi, banh cuon, spring rolls, and tofu bun vermicelli. I think our favorite was definitely the lemongrass tofu banh mi. The bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, the lemongrass flavor came through on the tofu, the tofu texture was great, and the veggies were fresh. Their banh cuon was pretty good. But, it wasn't as flavorful as the banh cuon from thien thanh. It helps to add the fish sauce on top. Unfortunately, the spring rolls and the tofu vermicelli weren't our cup of tea. The spring rolls had raw bean sprouts and a vegetable that we didn't enjoy. The tofu vermicelli also had a really strong mustard green in it that overpowered everything else in the dish. When I plucked out the mustard greens, the tofu vermicelli was not too bad. Overall, we'll definitely be coming back to try out their other banh mi sandwiches and their ca phe sua da. This place has got a pretty extensive menu to choose from. Lots of options: banh mi, soups, noodles, rice, curries, etc! I got the spring roll wraps. One with shrimp and another with pork floss. Both wraps were kind of flavorless to me. Don't think I would get them again. The house combination Banh Mi was delicious though. The bread was crispy and the meat tasted real. They could have added more greens but the meat was really the star of the show! Great and friendly staff. I would recommend and would come again.
I'm a huge fan of Vietnamese vegetarian food and this place is one of the best! The banh mi dac biet was the perfect sandwich. The baguette was fresh, the vegetables were plentiful, and the vegetarian meat was very realistic and delicious! Nuoc Sam was the right choice for a refreshing not too sweet drink. You can also buy lots of premade dishes here!
Came here for the first time with my parents. I never go anywhere to eat vegan food lol. My parents are both vegans so I ate with them. Even though I love my bloody steaks, these vegan dishes are delicious. We ordered the vegan pho, spring rolls, and banh mi pork. All dishes were meatless, but looked and tasted like it was meat products. Prices are decent considering the portions. They also have a freezer so you can buy food items to take home and cook yourself. Staff are very friendly and they have a few tables and chairs to dine at. Very clean restaurant. The parking is huge.
My friend was craving this spot so we came in for lunch over the weekend. I was intrigued to hear about a vegetarian Vietnamese spot and was super excited to try. The shop is pretty small, but there's a good amount of tables for dine in as well as other tables set up with things you can buy. Service here is super quick and the servers mainly speak Viet. We got the bun bo hue, hu tieu, and lemongrass tofu banh mi. The bun bo hue does not taste like bun bo hue made with meat, but it was still really good and super flavorful. The hu tieu tasted more true to hu tieu soup flavor and was also super delicious. My favorite by far was the lemongrass tofu banh mi. The bread was crispy and the tofu was super flavorful. I would bring my vegetarian grandma here!
Randomly decided to stop by here. Interesting that the BBQ and Vegetarian combo sandwiches were priced the same at $5.50. Wish it had a bit more meat in the BBQ. The place was small and intimate and you were able to get some groceries or food items here which I thought was pretty cool. Service was quick.
If you and/or an chay (Buddhism Vegeterian) then this is a great place for to-go or dine in cafeteria style. Interior is pretty simple and overall clean. Service is always friendly. My family have been coming here, especially for their banh mi. It can be a day later and their banh mi is still nice and soft. Just throw it in the air fryer if you're eating it later! It doesn't even matter which one you get, all their banh mi are delicious but can never be wrong with banh mi dac biet. If you're fighting on who pay, especially with an uncle who has cash... they will always pick the cash payer, just an FYI. The vermicelli noodles (usually at the front) is not my favorite compare to other do chay restaurants but not bad for an-chay-to-go. Tea is always extra and they only have jasmine tea. Still, a nice chay (Vegetarian) restaurant with plenty of grab-n-go options. Tip: they have their full selection at 9 AM on the daily.
As a die hard carnivore, I surprisingly enjoyed eating here. It's a pretty small restaurant. They sell some groceries and have coolers of vegetarian items for sale. The bun bo hue was very flavorful. I would come back to try some other items on the menu. There's plenty of parking. The staff are very friendly.

Duy's is a very unassuming restaurant/shop that's off to the side of a large plaza in Alief/Chinatown area of Houston. Its super casual and has the restaurant portion for sit down dining and quite a bit of takeout/vegetarian ingredients. My partner and I came in a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty quiet. Staff were extremely kind and friendly. You order and pay at the cashier then sit at a table to wait for your orser. We got the vegetarian cold cut combo banh mi, the lo mein, and the rice rolls. Everything was full of flavor and we did not miss animal protein. The banh mi had a nice, crisp bread along with a good amount of veggies and vegetarian cold cuts. The lo mein was very flavorful and the mushrooms really stood out as a nice unami bomb. The veggies were well cooked too and maintained crispness. My favorite was the rice rolls, which had the perfect texture, velvety, slightly QQ, and had a great filling along with a nice sauce. The veggies that accompanied it were a great addition too. My partner and I ended up getting a couple of their ready made dishes to take home and they were only $8 each. They were also delicious (basil kidney and stuffed bitter melon). I think the food here is solid and still affordable. To me, its a great restaurant that puts out good food that also happens to be vegetarian. Duy's Vegetarian Cafe is my favorite vegan restaurant in Bellaire. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is very casual and not fancy by any means but the food and service at this family-owned and operated are pretty good.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The older lady behind the counter that puts the Banh Mis and drinks together is the sweetest and friendliest. She's always so incredibly welcoming but it's a hit or miss with the guys at the counter. The menu consists of a lot of processed mock meat and dry mushrooms so my favorite dishes to oder are the Banh Mi Bi and Mi Xao noodle dish with tofu as these do not have mock meat in them. They have a wide variety of ready-to-eat, packaged hot foods and desserts on display for customers to grab and go. They also make a delicious, refreshing artichoke drink that isn't overly sweet. I definitely recommend giving them a try if you're vegan or simply just in the mood for vegan. Note: There's a discount for cash payment. read more
Recently I've been liking a lot of the vegetarian Vietnamese food, especially the spring rolls and that's why here I am visiting the one seems to be one of the popular spots near Chinatown. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a cute cozy family owned shop kinda hidden away from the main street but they got everything![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a small dining area with a small grocery section when you enter.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The aunties can't speak English but lucky me there was a young man working who can, he speaks mandarin too. He recommended me to get this plate of spring rolls. They have this one in my picture and another box that's with the vegetarian meats. The spring rolls' texture is nothing what I expected. From the look of it I thought it's got crispy filling but it was rather tasting stale. So I took a closer look, I think there are dried carrots and shallots or onions, and a lot of vermicelli. Personally, I would like the fresh veggies over the dried ones, because when they turn moist they become little too chewy for me. Also I wish the ratio of the vermicelli and veggies are more balanced, the rolls' flavor overall is still very refreshing to eat though. The fish sauce was good too, not too salty and fishy, it's on the more fragrant side. For this box of rolls I paid $10, which is little pricey for me since I have tried better for half that price. But maybe I will be back again and try other things on the menu one day. read more

If you are vegetarian and looking for Vietnamese food, this place is for you. We ordered a variety of vegetarian banh mi and they were all really tasty. There's a nice blend of vegetables with the fake meat. The bread was flaky and a great car ride meal on the drive back to Dallas. I ate mines two hours after we bought it and it was still delicious. The bread was soft but not soggy but also didn't get rock hard. There are other vegetarian dishes to order from as well. We also got some chay meat floss which pairs great with rice and some pickled radishes and eggs. read more
My first time at Duy's resulted in me being so enamored with the food, that I didn't even realize it was vegetarian. I was convinced I was eating banh mi dac biet but after realizing there was no meat, I was in disbelief to learn it was completely chay (#1). If the execution is enough to fool a carnivore into wanting more, then they're as legit of a vegetarian eatery as they come. Like any good Vietnamese bakery, the shop is loaded with all sorts of good stuff. The banh mi gets all the shine due to the namesake but their pre packaged offerings from noodles to rolls to sticky rice is close to hypeworthy. I've always appreciated their house special (dac biet) banh mi; it's packed full of the fake meat fixins, lots of quality cilantro, pickled veg, and fake pate, and the bread is fluffy and airy. They are also a good option for catering, as I've seen them make some really awesome platters of everything from noodles to desserts. Nothing like having a party of faux canh chua and cha lua, it'd be perfect for special occasions and potluck parties. Prices are affordable and they also accept credit cards. While I know they used to offer seating, I haven't seen any table + chair setup since the pandemic began. Right now it's been primarily a takeout spot and I've never seen it crowded. The ladies behind the counter are the nicest people I've encountered. Last but not least, I really like their caphe sua da. It's one of the more underrated ones in Houston and goes perfectly with their banh mi. ____________ (#1) Vegetarian. read more

Really good vegetarian viet food! I especially loved the lemongrass tofu banh mi. The tofu was flavorful & saucy, and the baguette had a light crisp on the outside & fluffy inside. The noodle dishes were on the lighter side since no meat was used, but the essence of each bowl was captured well. They sell lots of pre-made food in the store and also do catering! read more
Excellent service and good food. We surprised the restaurant with a large group on tet (Lunar New Year). Staff rearranged tables and accommodated quickly. Everything came out quickly and was delicious. Highlights were the noodle soups. Highly recommend for those seeking vegetarian options. read more

So solid! You cannot go wrong with anything you order here. PARKING: large parking lot and very easy to park here SERVICE: always efficient and friendly FOOD: I really like the mi quang--turmeric noodles with crispy chips and peanuts. Delicious broth and thick yellow noodles. Spring rolls here are really good. We tried a banh mi which was very crisp with fluffy interior. Try anything and everything--it's all delicious! read more

This is my go to spot during lent but even after Easter is okay, the bo luc lac Chay or the vegan beef shaking cube is soooooo good. I also got the tumeric mi quang noodle and I have loved them both. Comfort food even at your own home. read more

$3.50 for delicious vegetarian banh mi??? Hell yes. FYI bring cash unless you're planning to spend more than $10 here. So Duy Sandwiches offers a completely vegetarian menu, with fake meat made of soy. Hubby and I only had the appetite to share one sandwich, and we opted for the tofu. It was delicious!! The bread was crisp yet soft, and it had great flavor! I really wanna try some of their fake meat though. Maybe next time... If you're vegetarian but want your Vietnamese food fix, definitely come here! If you're not vegetarian, you should still definitely come here! read more
