I've enjoyed the food though oftentimes the service can be improved. - Bot chien or pan fried rice cake (3/5): comes with egg and sour soy sauce. The portion is very similar to other places. The rice cakes weren't very crispy and the sauce wasn't very spectacular. Overall it's on point but nothing to write home about - Com tam 6 Mon or rice platter combo (4.5/5): portion is a tad small for the price, but you get everything (and a small soup)!! I especially love the shrimp patty and egg cake. The fish sauce is also amazing! Highly recommended. - Com chien Duong Chau or Yuan Chow fried rice (3/5): just what you'd expect. Pricing wise, it's a bit on the high end. Think it was like $10.95. It was about 5 pm on a Wednesday so relatively quiet. They had a few to go order pickups while I was there. The guy that took my order was nice and helpful. There was another staff, maybe a manager or owner who took the money, who didn't get off his phone the whole time he serviced me or after. I don't expect 5 star service but I found that a bit rude. (Based off the convo, it seemed to be a personal call) Not against trying it again. One of my FAVORITE SPOTS EVER to get com tam. I like getting the combo bc I get a lil bit of everything. They serve it with a bowl of soup on the side, and it's just perfect. The coating on the shrimp cake is so crispy and light. The pork chop is flavorful and tender. Everything else is delightful as well. I always walk out of there happy and full. I came here once to meet my dad and his friends while they ate and tried their hot and sour soup with fish. I couldn't remember if it was delicious or not so when I craved it one day, my dad recommended ordering it there to eat. I came back and ordered to-go and it came with a large portion of rice as well. When I got home, the restaurant had put the broth separate in a soup container and the fish pieces and veggies in a separate to-go container in order for the veggies to not get soggy and fish to fall apart. Once I got home, I put everything in a pot to heat up and my golly, it was super flavorful and delicious!! The rice was kind of dry though but that was ok when I poured soup on the rice. The menu is pretty small here, but the grilled meats here taste great! My family comes here for Lau Mam (a hot pot) which I actually love it here. They use fish fillet so don't have to worry about bones. The flavor of the broth is consistently savory and always give lots of veggies. It was my first time here. The place is hidden gem in the corner of the same shopping strip as Lee Sandwiches on Bellaire. To be honest I probably would not eaten here if my sister didn't suggest it. The com tam was tasty and everything had flavor. The thit nuong actually had finely mince lemongrass in the marinade. I like the flavor it gives bbq meats. Thit nuong is supposed to be marinated with lemon grass. That's how my mama made it so it is the way I grew up eating thit nuong and pork chops. The pork chop & thit nuong were tasty & not over cooked. I thought the meat would be tough and dry but it was surprisingly tender. The tofu shrimp thing was good since it was NOT drenched in grease since it is fried. Everything on my 6 item plate was seasoned well and tasty. I enjoyed my rice plate. The chicken rice plate my daughter had was tasty too! The meat was flavorful and NOT dry/over cooked. They do give complimentary plain small bowl of broth like they should with the rice plates. Their durian mooncakes for the mid-autumn festival are amazing!!! Not too sweet and with just the right amount of durian flavor. Also, the yolk isn't crazy salty the way that other yoked mooncakes do it. It's more of a savory flavorI've always been a lotus mooncake die-hard fan, but these durian mooncakes are making me act up!!! they also stay relatively fresh when stored in a Tupperware in the fridge. Com tam 6 mon, 5/5: this plate is $10.50 and it has everything on there that you would think and more. Grilled pork chop, grilled shrimp, egg cake, lap xuon, crunch vegetarian cake, and com tam. It also comes with the soup on the side to wash everything down. The proteins are juicy and go well with the broken rice. My new go to spot for com tam. Very good fast service. Have only eaten the Com Tam and Beef Filet Fried Rice. Both excellent. Maybe I'm a glutton but if you get the Beef Filet make sure to pay for extra meat. They are very delicious tender and full of taste but you'll realize you have to have more and there's still plenty of rice to add the perfect sidekick to the main hero. Really great authentic Vietnamese food. They have the broken rice of course and all the sides you could want! I would recommend the egg loaf or the shrimp cake. So good!
