I've heard a lot about the pho in Houston's Chinatown, and what a way to end off my trip to Houston! I ended up getting the pho with rare steak and tripe, and it was probably one of the best pho I've ever had! The meat was really tender and not like the normal circular slices of beef that you typically see. The broth was also rich and very flavorful. The prices were also a lot cheaper than pho in California, which made it even better! If only prices in California were as good as in Texas. My fiance and I recently went to Houston for a wedding and when he told me let's get pho.. I instantly hesitated. I grew up eating pho everyday as a child so instantly had trauma when I heard those words. Regardless, I went with him anyway and man am I excited to have gone! Pho Dien looks like any typical pho restaurant. Their menu is very basic. Just pho with different variations and fixings. We shared the pho dac biet XL and added a side of bone marrow with egg. The XL was truly XL and was enough noodles and meat to feed the both of us and keep us full. The broth was delicious and not too salty. Usually when I eat pho out, there's lots of MSG and makes me drink lots of water. This wasn't the case for Pho Dien. The bone marrow and egg added an extra béo-ness to the pho that was to die for! Don't forget to ask for the pickled onions on the side. The fresh squeezed orange juice was also very good. As some would say, it healed us. So many pho choices on Bellaire but I always find myself going back to this one. Something about their broth is just really clean and comforting. It doesn't taste like made from bone broth powder. Normally when I eat pho from other restaurants I drink a lot of water after because they are salty, not pho dien's. They sell so well that sometimes on the weekend they close early because they are sold out for the day! Besides the taste, the portion is really nice and affordable. I enjoyed my experience here. The pho was decently priced and of course they give you a ton, even with the small bowl. The fixings were nice and fresh and they give you a lot. The broth itself needed an extra kick for me but the jalapeños and sriracha sauce helped. There were a ton of people coming in and out on Saturday at 2 PM, so that's a good sign. Parking lot was kind of packed so that's something to keep in mind. Overall, not sure I would come back because there's so many pho places to try. Bellaire Blvd literally has over 15+ pho restaurants. Itll be hard to decide. Pho Dien opens around 8-830am. When we got there (8:40am) , there were about 5-6 tables taken already. You know that's a good sign! Price comparison to Boston, a lot cheaper. I know, different city, different economic reasons, and different demands. But still! My mom, my kids and I had lunch together on a Monday around noon. The parking lot is decent but easily fills up during regular meal times. We were able to get seated right away. We heard about their pho from our optometrist who is a Houston local and my cousins said it was good but it was okay for us. Guess we've had better. As long as we have good company we're okay. We had a party of 9 and they closed early at 8:30 pm. I like that they give you a small bowl, scissors, and small spoon to feed baby. That's what's different between pho places here in Houston than in Fort Worth. This was my second bowl of pho for the day as well. So not sure if that would've affected my tastebuds. My party of 3 spent about an hour or so here and I opted for the combination bowl of Pho, which was averagely priced. My friends also decided to grab Pho bowl as well. The menu was familiar and definitely enjoyable to be here. The service here was good and friendly, while being fast and professional. The restaurant itself was pretty large for a typical Vietnamese restaurant but it can accommodate a lot of people at any given time. I'd say about 25-50 people at once. That's quite a squeeze too. It was a quiet lunch on a Monday after Christmas 2025. It was uneventful and definitely enjoyed having Pho. The overall experience at Pho Dien Vietnamese restaurant was very pleasant and good way to start of the week leading up to New Years Day 2026. The popularity of Pho in Houston does give such advantage in where to go for lunch or dinner or have Pho as a snack. One of the servers was really friendly. My pho was okay. The flavor was kind of lacking. The mixed rice plate was nicely made but all the meats were a bit bland. They were really loud when cleaning other tables. Like throwing the bowls and plates into the big tub and the sound of it was jarring and just unnecessarily loud. After checking out the many pho spots near me (a perk of living in Chinatown--so much good food!), I decided to try Pho Dien because of all the recognition they've gotten. I ordered the Large Beef Pho, and let me tell you, they did not skimp on the meat and veggies! I always skip the cilantro and onion, but basil and extra jalapeños are a must. And of course, I have to have my chili oil. The broth was so rich and flavorful--it instantly made Pho Dien my new go-to spot. I'm excited to go back! Beef pho is one of my favorite comfort foods. I opted for the large dac biet which is a combination of meats, tripe, tendon, and meatball. I knew I wasn't going to be able to finish it, but I love having leftovers for the next day. I requested the broth extra hot, and it indeed came out extra hot and steaming. I was delighted by the amount of meat and noodles in this bowl! They definitely weren't skimping. I used a bit of the dried chiles in the condiment rack to spice up the broth towards the end, giving that tasty clean broth a little oomph. The only main complaint was the service. I saw the waiter once when he took my order, and that was it. Never received a refill of my empty water cup, and I had to go to the counter to get a togo container while paying. One of the best pho restaurants I've been to in Houston. Very busy when I ordered and picked up togo. I love how the soup is not overall oily. I typically will order pho Togo and let it sit for a day so the fat can turn into a solid and I love how this soup, is clear and not fatty which is very important. The Togo meal was packed welll, a little light on the onions which I think it needed more, nice slices of brisket, very cleaned packed. What I find very interested is the rectangle shaped Togo meat which is very fresh. It's thin pounded red meat that comes out tender. When the hot soup is poured over very tender. Love the good beef bone soup, you can tell it's not from powder, traditional pho broth. I would say it needs more onions, a little bit of a let down it came with 1 meat ball cut in half so the size of quarters, very little to no tendon. I mean kids size to be honest. This is easily the worst pho restaurant I've been to, and possibly the worst in Houston. There's a decided lack of interest in this place on the part of the employees, and it's visible from the moment you walk in the door. Trash all over the floors, tables and chairs needing to be cleaned up, tables bunched too close together despite being separate tables, the works. The waiter must have been used to predominantly Vietnamese clientele. He didn't communicate well in English nor understand me well, and I've been routinely told by non-native speakers that I'm easy to "practice English" with due to my neutral accent. The food itself was filling, but the experience was still disappointing. We ordered the well done flank and skirt flank, expecting the same type of thin sliced meat that we've been served at countless other Pho restaurants across the city. This was hands down some of the WORST pho I've ever had. The pieces ranged from half-fat to entirely fat and gristle. There was plenty of it, but nothing resembling "steak" meat. I actually counted two pieces of actual meat in the entire extra large bowl, each amounting to maybe a square inch of meat. In comparison, we probably had 15x as much fat strips in the bowl. Once we were served, the waiter didn't check on us again at all, but we kind of came to expect that based on the rest of the experience. A family of six got seated at the so-close-it-might-as-well-be-our-table next to us. The mother was clearly used to whatever this nonsense was. She immediately grabbed napkins and started wiping down areas that hadn't been properly cleaned before sitting her family down. I opted for the medium bowl bc my eyes are bigger than my stomach. I ate about 1/4 of it. Next time I will get the small bowl instead. The soup was good. The flavors were there and I got my usual.
