My favorite pho place closed for two weeks so I decided totry Pho Dien, a long standing establishment that I've heard good things about. The interior felt a bit cramped due to the close proximity of some of the tables and the service was curt but efficient. It was neither good or bad. Just very minimal and very to the point. Ever since I was introduced to fresh pho noodles, I've been unable to return to regular noodles so I was really disappointed to know they did not have fresh noodles. Unlike everyone I know who enjoys pho, I don't usually add any sauces or spice to my broth. Just a squeeze of lime and that's it for me but I had to add Plum sauce and a lot of lime juice to the broth here. Also, I wasn't a fan of their pickled onions. I don't think they use sweet onions because they were more on the better side. The pho was just okay to me and most likely won't be returning.
Solid 4 stars. Came in for a weekday lunch with the family. Everybody had a bowl of pho. Prices are pretty reasonable, service was super fast, and the restaurant is decent and clean. Pho -- 4.5/5. Large bowl, good value, with a pretty good depth of flavor. Not the best pho I've ever had in my life, but very above average for Houston. Cà phê sữa đá -- 5/5. Good value and a large cup. Might not be for everybody -- it was extremely strong and just a little sweet -- but that strong is exactly how I like it. Would recommend, and would return. This might be my new go-to spot for pho in Houston.
This might be the best pho I've had! Broth is lightly sweet and umami but the real highlight was the meat! Very generous servings and a thicker cut than what I'm used to but very somehow very tender. Rare steak and fatty brisket are very nice. Service was super quick even though go we came at an off time. Plenty of parking in front, definitely want to come back soon.
No frills pho spot that has been serving up consistent bowls of pho over the years. Choose from a simple menu full of your standard offerings, wait a few minutes, and eat away. The broth is very flavorful and while the meat pieces aren't as great as Pho Sapa, the price also reflects that. Service is fast and efficient and allows you to get in and get out if you're looking for a quick lunch.
I've heard a lot about the pho in Houston's Chinatown, and what a way to end off my trip to Houston! I ended up getting the pho with rare steak and tripe, and it was probably one of the best pho I've ever had! The meat was really tender and not like the normal circular slices of beef that you typically see. The broth was also rich and very flavorful. The prices were also a lot cheaper than pho in California, which made it even better! If only prices in California were as good as in Texas. If you're looking for some good pho in Houston, highly recommend this spot!
Oh man, the Phở Tái was outstanding in this bustling pho restaurant deep in the heart of Alief. The place is a typical hole in the wall gem with kind service and lots of regulars. Get there early so you don't have to wait!
My fiance and I recently went to Houston for a wedding and when he told me let's get pho.. I instantly hesitated. I grew up eating pho everyday as a child so instantly had trauma when I heard those words. Regardless, I went with him anyway and man am I excited to have gone! Pho Dien looks like any typical pho restaurant. Their menu is very basic. Just pho with different variations and fixings. We shared the pho dac biet XL and added a side of bone marrow with egg. The XL was truly XL and was enough noodles and meat to feed the both of us and keep us full. The broth was delicious and not too salty. Usually when I eat pho out, there's lots of MSG and makes me drink lots of water. This wasn't the case for Pho Dien. The bone marrow and egg added an extra béo-ness to the pho that was to die for! Don't forget to ask for the pickled onions on the side. The fresh squeezed orange juice was also very good. As some would say, it healed us. Overall, I'm definitely adding this Pho place to my houston food rotation and can't wait to come back for another delicious bowl of pho!

My go to is the Rare steak, Fatty Brisket, and Flank with a side of Bone Marrow. I would say this is one of the cheapest spots right now for a bowl and it just doesn't disappoint. Overall, 9/10.
So many pho choices on Bellaire but I always find myself going back to this one. Something about their broth is just really clean and comforting. It doesn't taste like made from bone broth powder. Color of the broth looks pure and balanced, not oily. I heard that they stew the broth for over 12 hours, I would believe it because no where else make the broth like them. Normally when I eat pho from other restaurants I drink a lot of water after because they are salty, not pho dien's. They sell so well that sometimes on the weekend they close early because they are sold out for the day! Besides the taste, the portion is really nice and affordable. They give a balance amount of noodle and meats, I'm full after eating a regular size bowl. Service here is like a blind box, sometimes good sometimes ok. They serve the food pretty fast though overall. Always pretty crowded with people during meal times like any Asian diners so it gets little loud with many voices overlapping, but they have plenty seatings. It's always my go to when I want pho in and out quick and I will always get them on a cold day.
The broth overrated for I never can go here it's not the same as the original owners that ran the one in Kimson location, the original owners at were her parents she said daughter has different cooking skills or family from her parents. I had just placed one pho lean brisket Togo. It was the most least enjoyable experience that will keep me from returning here to not step into here until the broth taste legitimately better. If there are many that this would stay on the list I say top mid range list not anywhere in the top 5 of Houston and please when it's lean it should not be looking fatty like bacon strips that is a ratio of 3/4 fat to lean meat. I would totally skip and use my quick instant pho bowls I have saved up for emergency and call it a real desperate rescue food then to waste my $$ money here.

I enjoyed my experience here. The pho was decently priced and of course they give you a ton, even with the small bowl. The fixings were nice and fresh and they give you a lot. The broth itself needed an extra kick for me but the jalapeños and sriracha sauce helped. There were a ton of people coming in and out on Saturday at 2 PM, so that's a good sign. Parking lot was kind of packed so that's something to keep in mind. Overall, not sure I would come back because there's so many pho places to try. But it was a good experience and I would recommend if you are in the area and love pho.
My parents had a restaurant specializing in pho when I was growing up. So I've always been very particular with my pho. Most of the time opting out of eating pho because I couldn't find a restaurant that could compare. One day my brother, another pho connoisseur, introduced me to Pho Dien. They only serve pho there so that's a good sign. To my disbelief, we have found a pho that tastes similarly to my dad's. There are a few technical things I would change like how they slice the meat and opting out of the banh pho tuoi (only offered in the morning). Overall, would come back with my husband whenever he's craving pho. read more
This restaurant is located in an established mixed retail shopping center with somewhat limited parking during peak hours. Pho Dien is spacious with very friendly staff. I ordered a dinner for takeout which came amazingly fast. I'm a rookie so I was very surprised to open the food package at home to see that the food required cooking (except the broth). After a good laugh, I went to work preparing my meal with the ingredients provided. I'm no skilled chef but I put together an excellent dinner in about 10 minutes. I was very impressed that my "meal kit" was practically fool proof. This was my first visit and have no idea if this represents the norm for takeout. However, if you find yourself in this situation, don't panic. You will have fun putting together a great meal. read more

my top spot for pho!! they do one thing and do it reeeally well. it gets super packed during peak hours but the bowls come out piping hot and fresh in no time the broth is rich, deeply savory, and packed with umami without being overly salty. i also love that the rice noodles are a little firmer than at most restaurants so they hold their texture instead of getting soggy or falling apart as you eat. the meat is tender and the portions are more than enough read more

Usually really busy so it's hard to get seats. Food comes out somewhat on time. The inside is clean. I ordered a large Pho Tai Bo Vien. Pho Tai Bo Vien: Pretty good, the broth is a bit heavy weight so it makes you full quick. Meat is very tender and chewy. Overall I would rate it a 9/10! read more

Where do I begin?! Honestly, probably one of these best pho I ever had at a restaurant. Pho Dien was highly recommended by my friends so I had to come and try it out when I was in town. Bellaire Blvd literally has over 15+ pho restaurants. Itll be hard to decide. Pho Dien opens around 8-830am. When we got there (8:40am) , there were about 5-6 tables taken already. You know that's a good sign! Price comparison to Boston, a lot cheaper. I know, different city, different economic reasons, and different demands. But still! I paid $20 for an XL bowl of pho with a side bowl of bone marrow and egg. In Boston, it's literally $20 for a regular bowl of pho with no extra specialty cuts. I miss Houston lol Definitely highly recommend trying pho here if you're around Bellaire. read more
My mom, my kids and I had lunch together on a Monday around noon. The parking lot is decent but easily fills up during regular meal times. We were able to get seated right away. I requested the pho dac biet size large with vegetables on the side so I could share with my kids. We also got an iced viet coffee and strawberry smoothie. The pho was delicious and it made me wish to order XL next time because the kids ate more than usual! The viet coffee is always my go to drink at a pho restaurant but this was overly sweet for my liking. The kids seemed to have enjoyed their refreshing smoothie. The bathroom stall was a tight squeeze but overall clean. I would consider coming back if I am in the area. read more

We heard about their pho from our optometrist who is a Houston local and my cousins said it was good but it was okay for us. Guess we've had better. As long as we have good company we're okay. We had a party of 9 and they closed early at 8:30 pm. I like that they give you a small bowl, scissors, and small spoon to feed baby. That's what's different between pho places here in Houston than in Fort Worth. This was my second bowl of pho for the day as well. So not sure if that would've affected my tastebuds. Everything was pretty average. Maybe a few cuts of meat that were pretty good. I know I couldn't finish my bowl, but at least eat the meats. Ambiance is casual. You pay at the counter. read more

My stomach has been not feeling great so I wanted to have some chicken pho to help me feel better. Tried this spot for the first time. The restaurant was nice and clean. One of the servers was really friendly. My pho was okay. The flavor was kind of lacking. The mixed rice plate was nicely made but all the meats were a bit bland. They were really loud when cleaning other tables. Like throwing the bowls and plates into the big tub and the sound of it was jarring and just unnecessarily loud. I prefer both the pho and rice plate at pho Saigon. read more
Pho Dien it's definitely one of the most talked about pho restaurants in Houston, Like most old school pho restaurants it is a very simple restaurant with long tables that are shared by all those that come to enjoy this amazing elixir. The menu is simple having multiple styles of pho and a combination of smoothies, fruit, drinks, and teas and that is it, the service is quick and no nonsense, everybody is kind and they get the job done quickly and efficiently. The ambience is not going to win any awards but they work hard to keep everything clean and it is always packed and most of the time has a line of people waiting to sit down. This place is really good!! The service was quick and our plates came out pretty quick! We got a small and large pho bowl which was absolutely yummy! The meat was really tender and the broth was so flavorful. It's a nice place to just grab a quick bite. Prices and serving size were great. Though I mostly prefer other types of Vietnamese noodle soups, every once and awhile, I crave a no frills delicious bowl of simple beef pho. While there are a plethora of options available on every corner of Chinatown, the consensus has always mentioned Pho Dien as a top tier contender for the best pho in town. Came on a weekday for lunch, and the dining room was pretty full! There were definitely people from all walks of life and all ages. The menu is fairly simple, as the only entree they serve here is beef pho and chicken pho. They do carry a variety of traditional Vietnamese juices as well as blended smoothies though. I opted for the large dac biet which is a combination of meats, tripe, tendon, and meatball. I knew I wasn't going to be able to finish it, but I love having leftovers for the next day. I requested the broth extra hot, and it indeed came out extra hot and steaming. I was delighted by the amount of meat and noodles in this bowl! They definitely weren't skimping. I used a bit of the dried chiles in the condiment rack to spice up the broth towards the end, giving that tasty clean broth a little oomph. The only main complaint was the service. I saw the waiter once when he took my order, and that was it. Never received a refill of my empty water cup, and I had to go to the counter to get a togo container while paying. I also recommend coming with ear buds if dining alone. It gets pretty loud with all the voices bouncing around the hard surfaces when it's busy. Still worth it for some amazing pho! read more

This is probably one of the best pho I've had! The portion of meat is generous, making the ratio of meat to noodles perfect! The broth is flavorful enough to where I didn't have to douse it in hoisin sauce. I usually only have leftover noodles when I eat pho, but with the generous portions of meat provided here, I couldn't finish the large bowl. The restaurant, however, feels tight where the tables are closely put together so it feels like you're sitting very close to the other parties. Like many other authentic pho restaurants, don't expect much service after ordering and you pay at the counter once you're done eating. read more
One of the best pho restaurants I've been to in Houston. Very busy when I ordered and picked up togo. I love how the soup is not overall oily. I typically will order pho Togo and let it sit for a day so the fat can turn into a solid and I love how this soup, is clear and not fatty which is very important. The Togo meal was packed welll, a little light on the onions which I think it needed more, nice slices of brisket, very cleaned packed. What I find very interested is the rectangle shaped Togo meat which is very fresh. It's thin pounded red meat that comes out tender. When the hot soup is poured over very tender. Love the good beef bone soup, you can tell it's not from powder, traditional pho broth. I would say it needs more onions, a little bit of a let down it came with 1 meat ball cut in half so the size of quarters, very little to no tendon. I mean kids size to be honest. The star of the show is the brisket and the red meat but the supporting cast is no where to be found so to me, it's not dac biet. read more

This is easily the worst pho restaurant I've been to, and possibly the worst in Houston. There's a decided lack of interest in this place on the part of the employees, and it's visible from the moment you walk in the door. Trash all over the floors, tables and chairs needing to be cleaned up, tables bunched too close together despite being separate tables, the works. The waiter must have been used to predominantly Vietnamese clientele. He didn't communicate well in English nor understand me well, and I've been routinely told by non-native speakers that I'm easy to "practice English" with due to my neutral accent. The food itself was filling, but the experience was still disappointing. We ordered the well done flank and skirt flank, expecting the same type of thin sliced meat that we've been served at countless other Pho restaurants across the city. This was hands down some of the WORST pho I've ever had. The pieces ranged from half-fat to entirely fat and gristle. There was plenty of it, but nothing resembling "steak" meat. I actually counted two pieces of actual meat in the entire extra large bowl, each amounting to maybe a square inch of meat. In comparison, we probably had 15x as much fat strips in the bowl. Once we were served, the waiter didn't check on us again at all, but we kind of came to expect that based on the rest of the experience. A family of six got seated at the so-close-it-might-as-well-be-our-table next to us. The mother was clearly used to whatever this nonsense was. She immediately grabbed napkins and started wiping down areas that hadn't been properly cleaned before sitting her family down. There's a difference between "no frills" and "unsanitary" and this place is clearly on the wrong side of that distinction. read more
