One of the best India snacks as well as food. The taste is so authentic. My family enjoyed the taste a lot. We started with Dhiokla/Khaman so fluppy and yummy. Then we ordered Puri allo bhaji my son liked it most. I orderd Masala dosa its so nice i love to eat it again. Finally the chowpaty thali made my day. Tried out this place while I was on vacation. The restaurant is spotlessly clean. Ordered the food and waited a bit, longer than usual. But then I thought that the food was probably getting preapired, and not Pre made. That was indeed the case. I was very pleased with the food. This is how restaurants should be. Food was basic, not overdone with extra spices. They didn't use cream to cover up lack luster food. It was just like I'd cook at home. I was torn whether to stick to a place that I knew that consistently was great in Shri Balaji Bhavan or go to Chowpatty Chat for something new. I did not regret my choice at all. My dad is a tough customer to impress or even hype up a place but he insisted on coming here. We tried the dahi puri and the vada pav and both reminded me of Mumbai in their authenticity. The Dahi puri had great crispy puris and the homemade chutney combination was amazing. The vada pav had the perfect crisp of the Vada and I enjoyed every bite. Pav Bhaji is so incredibly authentic, a small slice of Mumbai (could of kept the whole peas out of it though) !!!! In my ongoing quest to find a quality (yet not over priced) Indian diners or buffets within a reasonable distance from downtown Houston, I ventured to this Bollywood-themed spot. I won't make this mistake twice. I've sampled several North and South Indian places nearby, but none as uninviting yet. As I walked in, I thought the crowd was a positive sign. However, the adults were talking over each other and children were screaming. I couldn't help to wonder why screaming children were out at 730-8pm on a Sunday night instead of getting ready for bed. The scene was chaotic. And the open space with no wind guard at the entrance or barriers to break up the noise, supported the chaos. Moreover, the mediocre food didn't warrant the tolerance required to finish dinner. This is not a spot for anyone who expects ambience. Yet more than one Indian patron was taking photos of the food and/or Bollywood posters as if this was a fancy dinner place. (Scratching head) I ordered the Punjabi Thali. The texture of the saag was good, but it lacked the appropriate flavor. It neither tasted of spinach/greens or recognizable spices I know would be part of most recipes. I was puzzled. The saag was grossly sweet and either creamy or buttery. I couldn't quite put my finger on the overall strange flavor, but sugar was part of it. The lentils were overcooked as I've come to expect from most Indian families (just like in the southern US). The lentil favor, on the other hand, was the only standout... Not spectacular lentil prep, but worth eating. The kofta, like the saag, was weirdly sweet and missing the robost flavor I am accustomed. The gravy was warm, but the kofta was cold... indicating the kofta dish is stored in two parts and someone drops one cold kofta ball in each cup of gravy. The paneer masala was just ok, but I was more impressed with the abundance of bell pepper than I was with the dish star... Paneer. Then there was the roti which was served soaking wet in butter... Not a slow churned Desi cows' ghee, but literally artery-clogging oil/butter. I was cursing myself for not asking for plain roti or naan. To held aid in digestion, the Punjab thali includes a lasi. However, this lassi wasn't plain at all. I literally think I was drinking high fructose corn syrup with just enough yogurt to look white. Given that plain yogurt is generally on the tarter end of the spectrum and lasi is a yogurt drink, the beverage would be better described as a dessert. Imagine ordering plain ice tea and being served sweet tea. Yuck. If you suffer from a sweet tooth and/or have never cooked with a robust mix of fresh spices to create good masalas, then I'm sure you'll disagree with my assessment. Perhaps they do dosa etc better, but the thali provided a decent sampling of their gravy / masala / curry selection and I certainly can't agree with anyone who rates 4 or 5 stars. read more

We have gone here a few times and have never been completely satisfied with a meal. Their paneer rolls are oily and greasy that can make you feel sick after eating it. Their Pav Bhaji is should not be called so, it tastes nothing like pav bhaji. It reeked of masala that did not taste good! Now, the Hakka noodles. They don't seem to know what Hakka noodles mean. They used flat white noodles for "Hakka noodles". The way it was cooked was terrible! It was a soggy mess. An amateur cooking Hakka noodles with an online recipe will do a better job. They should not be allowed to have this on their menu, they do not know how it should be cooked.. well they don't know the ingredients for sure! The gobi manchurian tasted like a bottle of tomato ketchup and nothing else. It was so bad that we had to waste more than half the portion. It was stale! And how hard it is to serve fresh potato chips? I mean, the chips that come with the rolls are stale, I mean they are not crispy and smell of old oil. Work Restaurant ever....food is either burnt or totally uncooked. I ordered samosa and when I broke it into half it was literally black from inside, when I asked them to replace it, they gave me uncooked samosa. The dough of the samosa was still wet that's how uncooked it was. And we know uncooked wheat and make anybody sick. The employee or owner did not have the manner to say sorry. Worst customer service. Loved It! Ordered the dahi puri and it was soo vood. My parents got through dahi vada and bhel bhaji and they were all good as well. We ordered the salted lassi, not as good as a mango Lassi but still pretty good. The interior is pretty interesting. There are Bollywood movie posters lining the walls sorted by actor. From the first taste I knew it was from a box. -rajkachori: tasted ok, nothing great to comeback for -veg Hakka noodles: ok, but mediocre in flavor -chiku shake: tasted like chiku in plain milk, no richness of a shake, very watery, on top of that, NO ICE, became warm/hot in 10 min-horrible! We were in this area and decided to try this Chaat place. The place is very neat and clean and the whole place has a Bollywood theme to it. The walls are all covered in Bollywood movie posters, chairs are like movie reels and even the counter has like Bollywood reels and cycle theme to it. One has to order food at the counter and pay and they will call out the order number when the food is ready. Service was prompt and food was prepared very fast. The menu consists of many Chaat items, many indo Chinese dishes andSouth Indian dishes. We ordered the Raj kachori and Dabeli. Masala of the Dabeli had crushed peanuts on it and tasted good with the chutney but was on the sweeter side. Raj kachori looked very good but the curd in it was so sweet - did not like this dish. After this we tried the chili paneer which wasn't spicy at all - was very medium tasting. Also got the schezuan rice which had a burnt taste to it - this was over cooked. We told them and they decided to exchange it - got pao Bhaji instead which was good and probably the best dish out of all we tasted. Also got their masala tea which was hot and good - though this already has sugar put in it. On one side of the counter they have Sambar in a crockpot which one can take in bowls kept at the side. We tried their sambar which was good - at least wasn't sweet like the other dishes. Overall food wise the experience was average. read more

My wife chewed a piece of glass, almost 1-1.5 inch size in a dish called 'sev puri'. Upon bringing it up to the owner/manager at the time, he said "yeah we had something break in our chutney in the morning and we had found one piece, worried about another and it came in your dish" - what the f@@k does that even mean!! Please avoid eating at this place. They acted as nothing had happened during the entire time we were there. Upon telling them that this is extremely unacceptable of a restaurant to knowingly use an unsafe item of ingredient , he tried to offer us a "free meal" by saying "I will take care of you next time".... Ordered pani puri for take away and I waited for almost 40mins and I asked them why so long and they said that pani puri water was not ready and it would take more 10mins. Damn are you serious .? You could have just told me before ordering that it would take a long time to get ready and I would just keep the order! Ohhhh. The Punjabi thali!!!! Just order it. Just do it. You get to try so many different dishes. It is definitely worth the price. There wasn't a single portion I did not enjoy. Dropped by for lunch to taste their Punjabi Thali, a North Indian style vegetarian thali which I've heard good things about. For $12 it comes with a ridiculous amount of food, enough to feed 1.5-2 people perhaps. But 10/10 would get demolished again. Everything about it was superb, from the beautiful presentation to the deep flavors backed by the richness of ghee. They say it's the "spicy" thali (Gujurati is the "sweet') but that just means it's packed full of spices, and not actually that hot. Maybe not fair but I think it even rivals the thalis I've had at Maharaja Bhog, at least in terms of enjoyment. My thali came with: a basket of paratha, basmati rice, papad, green chutney, salad, pickles, a samosa, various side dishes, sweet lassi, and gulab jamun for dessert. I won't go through it all, but will say that everything was fresh and on point. The lassi deserves a special shoutout though for being super refreshing, not too sweet, and something I think I could just drink all day. The side dishes, ranked in rough order of deliciousness (basically how little was leftover afterwards): - Chole / chana masala (chickpea curry) - Chana dal (split lentil stew) - Paneer tikka masala (marinated grilled paneer cubes) - Malai kofta (the deep fried potato/paneer ball in rich tomatoey cream) - Palak (spinach) The complimentary sambhar (lentil veggie stew) was also really good but I kinda regretted eating so much of it before my monster of a thali came out.
