We also ordered the Sour & Spicy Chicken Gizzard, which was perfect with rice. We also got the Salt and Pepper Fish Fillet, and that ended up being my favorite dish; Crispy, flavorful, and not overcooked at all. We also ordered the Hot and Sour Soup and the Beef Stew Noodle Soup. Both were delicious. We really enjoyed our meal, and this definitely feels like a legit spot. The soup dumplings are decent, but they are frozen, which kind of just seem like false advertising because on the menu, it says something about 16 hour long broth. The skewers are just okay too. The Mapo tofu is a fucking death trap. There is so much mala in it that my mouth was buzzing and it taste medicinal. And before anyone says that it's supposed to taste like that, it's not. I'm Chinese and it's not supposed to taste like CHM. Also, they charge for water and while that's not illegal, it definitely is scummy.

It took at least 30 min for our food to trickle out of the kitchen. It took another 30 minutes after we ate to get our bills paid. We were running out of things to talk about it took so long! The food wasn't great, there's hardly a vegetable in anything! we all ordered fried rice but it looked nothing like fried rice on our combo plates, not a single veggie or shred of egg in it. Those that had plain rice said it was better. We asked for chili crisp, she gave us a container of chili oil and a container with crushed red pepper, yet they had jars of chili crisp for sale. Order at the cashier, grab a number, and food will be served to you. Needless to say, I ordered the 4. Shanghai pork mini soup dumplings which were $10.25 for 6 dumplings. I would've loved less dough, more soup, overall bigger portion size (larger dumplings or more of them). Otherwise, the soup itself was tasty. We also ordered the 14. Chongqing Fried Spicy Chicken $13.95, which was a platter of boneless chicken and peppers. I was very impressed with the crisp exterior but soft/juicy interior of the chicken. I'm not usually a spice person, but I was left feeling tingly but not in pain and not numb. Overall I found Heng's Kitchen to be disproportionately pricey given the taste and portion sizes. I'm pretty critical and discerning about my XLB, and this place did not totally satisfy my craving, although I was pleasantly surprised about the chicken. Note: rice is not included with any dish and is $1 extra. Free room-temperature self-serve water available.

"TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!"…read more I wanted to like this place based on the reviews. Completely disappointed. Absolute worst Chinese food I've ever had. I ordered the orange chicken and chow mein from Beijing Express and had to throw almost all of it out after a few bites. What a disappointment. The chow mein had zero vegetables and the noodles were horribly chewy with a weird, off texture -- like they'd been sitting too long or not cooked properly. The orange chicken was even worse: 90% thick, crunchy batter with almost no actual chicken inside. The few pieces of chicken I found were hard, dry, and completely overcooked. The sauce on both was actually flavorful, but it couldn't save the meal. For $12+ I expect edible food, not this. I ended up throwing it away and walking next door to OPA Life Greek Cafe instead.
