I've eaten at this restaurant a couple of times and had good experiences, which is why I came back. Unfortunately, my last two visits have been very disappointing. The rice was undercooked and had a burnt taste both times. I wasn't happy with the food, but I still paid for my meal and ended up throwing it away because I couldn't eat it. She confirmed my name & brought my food out right away. My food was ready a little bit early. I ordered Crab Rangoon, & the lunch Sweet & Sour chicken. It comes with rice. I paid $1.50 more for chicken fried rice. It also comes with your choice of soup. I got the wonton soup. The food was hot. The wonton soup was really good. The sweet & sour sauce was good. It was thick & had a good flavor. The Crab Rangoon was not what I expected. They were huge. I didn't love the dough it was made of. It was kind of like an egg roll type, but it was a thicker dough. The filling was really good, & there was a good amount of it inside them. The rice was not very good. Some of it was hard. It was also dry. The chicken was tender, but had no flavor. Awful. The crab rangoons were okay, but the beef and broccoli and vegetable chow mein were completely inedible. It was obviously not made fresh. The beef was rubbery and the chow mein noodles were flavorless and had probably been microwave. I ate one bite of each dish and that was all I could handle. Really surprised with our order today as the Beef and string beans were cold, Kung Poa chicken was ask to be extra spicy however there virtually no spice, told chow mein had bean sprouts and all we got was cabbage with the shrimp. We ordered delivery on 2/20/2025 and had the General Tso's chicken with veggie fried rice, veggie egg rolls and hot and sour soup. The chicken and rice were horrible. Obviously left over and then microwaved as the chicken was so dry and even hard that we couldn't cut into it. The rice was apparently left over also as it was in some weird tasting sauce. The egg rolls had been fried in very old oil with a bad smell and taste. We threw away all the food except for the hot and sour soup which was good. Based on the reviews and the ratings we thought we would try hot wok as we had just exited the Home Depot in the same shopping plaza. The meals are served on paper plates with plastic utensils. The order taker is very monotone. No greeting or anything. He could care less whether you eat there or not. My wife ordered the sweet-and-sour pork but as you can see from the picture all you get is breaded pork. No red peppers. No green peppers. No onions. No pineapple. It is served with a sweet-and-sour sauce in a separate container. I ordered the lemon chicken but it's just thickly breaded chicken. You get a side container of the lemon sauce. Not very appealing. Both orders came with a side of white rice on a paper plate. The food has no flavor. Very bland. We ended up leaving half of our food when we left. Our family loves Hot Wok Mr Cook. I use to come here once a month, around the time I would go to All Family Barber for a hair cut. Sadly All Family is closed, but I still enjoy stopping here for a take out order whenever I'm in the area. The food has a mostly east coast Chinese flavor to it, meaning it's has strong Szechwan or Sichuan influence. Szechuan is known for its slightly spicy taste. They use a lot of garlic and chili peppers, as well as Sichuan pepper in their food, which our family likes. We usually get Fried Pot Stickers/Dumplings, Szechwan Won Tons, General Tso's Chicken, Sweat & Sour Chicken and Pork Fried Rice. All of which were very good and it had only a mild, spicy kick to it. This place was my #1 go to place for NY style Chinese food for 4 years until one day I ordered an egg role and found a big rubber band type rope rolled up in my egg role. The service was great of course delivery was fast as usual BUT, That one experience has cost them a loyal customer for life. They have changed there cooks left and right. Whoever they had cooking back in summer of '20-'21 they need to get back . Some people ordered from an old website, so their orders didn't get through and they had to get their payment refunded. I came in as I was craving A teriyaki chicken rice bowl and found this conveniently located, I appreciate they opened their door to me as I was earlier than their scheduled opening (10:50) they open at 11:00am. I ordered their large plate of teriyaki chicken which came fully loaded with vegetables and a side plate of white steamed rice as I could add as much or as little race to my meal as I wanted. A solid 4* approaching 4.5* for me based on one delivery, and one take away order. We were craving "NY style" Chinese food, and I saw Georgie M.'s review, and further saw that they have shrimp toast, something that Scott and I both recall fondly from our "one from column A, one from column B" NY inauthentic Chinese food introduction, and that they delivered: sold! The order came very quickly, the driver was super polite, it was packed well, and except for the shrimp toast being a tad over cooked, and a missing soda, everything was perfect. They even offer the elusive won ton-egg drop soup mixed, and roast pork egg rolls which anyone who moved West will immediately recognize as hard-to-find from my photos. After our "let's recreate the 1970's" delivery meal, we ordered pick up with Mom, and she agreed that the food was reminiscent of days gone by. This time we also had dumplings, Mom had orange chicken, and I had a tremendous portion of Singapore Chow Mei Fun ordered extra spicy with extra curry, which was delicious and enough for two days of meals and snacks. The lady who worked there was so genuinely sweet, and gave us a Coke to replace the wayward one from our first order; the inside of the restaurant was clean and not at all divey to my prying eyes. I've visited Hot Wok quite a few times over the years. I used to work in the same plaza and would have lunch here weekly. Yang Chow was my go-to. Cashier was super sweet and always remembered my order. It's been a couple years since, but I've noticed they actually considerably improved. I ordered delivery for the first time and it was an excellent experience. They were early, left the food via contactless delivery, everything was packaged well and HOT. As is custom, too much food was ordered and we've had leftovers for days. It held up really well! Just polished off the last bit before starting this review. I had Sweet and Sour (pork), crab rangoon, Yang Chow, Wor Wonton Soup, and Egg Rolls (pork). Everything was so CRISPY! This was all clearly fresh-made right before delivery. I am a big fan. I had passed by this place countless times with out giving it a try. It is now my goto chineese takeout option. The menu has many intresting options. We enjoy the eggplant dish packed full of flavor. The kids love the lo mein noodles and the tofu dishes are packed full of crispy triangles of tofu. My wife loves the sweet Mu shu veggies served with real wraps (not just tortillas.) Portions are generous and the prices are quiet reasonable. Pickup orders have always been ready in 30 min or less. It is nice that they include forks, mustard, soy, sweet and sour pakets and fortune cookies to make it a full meal. Recently tried Szechwan wontons for the first time & they were a revelation in rich sweet heat & umami. I love there sweet & sour Pork or Chicken for its light crunchy flavor. I ordered a small wonton soup and the eggplant chicken with garlic sauce. 10 minutes later a man (the cook I assume) brought me my food and thanked me for waiting. The food was delicious! We've been going to Hot Wok for several years now but tonight was the last. Their web site did not allow entry of a credit card nor did they provide a way to specify credit card payment in person. Although the order was correct as entered it was massively disappointing. Two orders of pork fried rice - one was correct the other was some sort of under cooked mystery meat. My green beans and beef was under cooked as was wife's broccoli and beef. We recooked both dishes in the microwave so I hope tomorrow morning we don't have "stomach" issues. read more
