My family loves this place. They have great prices and amazing food! Definitely recommend!!

So if you're looking for a no-frills, simple, affordable as well as tasty Chinese lunch or dinner, come into the Hot Wok in Tempe. Located in the Home Depot strip mall. It's been a staple of South Tempe for many years. Don't expect fancy interior, they like to keep it simple, our dishes were very tasty and very affordable. The staff is also very friendly. And they had our food served very quickly. They also have the lunch specials Monday through Saturday. All of this food was $25. +2 sodas. read more

Walked in to order and this place is a health code violation mess - saw the dirt, grime and improperly stored items - including the raw meat stored next to their beverages for guests. Crazy!!! Good luck to all who eat here! read more

Succulent food and friendly service. Dine in is okay for lunchtime. Just chairs and tables. This place is very good.

I ordered lunch for pickup today since Chinese sounded good, & it's really close to my work. I ordered online for pickup at 11:30. The girl was friendly and helpful. She confirmed my name & brought my food out right away. My food was ready a little bit early. I ordered Crab Rangoon, & the lunch Sweet & Sour chicken. It comes with rice. I paid $1.50 more for chicken fried rice. It also comes with your choice of soup. I got the wonton soup. The food was hot. The wonton soup was really good. The sweet & sour sauce was good. It was thick & had a good flavor. The Crab Rangoon was not what I expected. They were huge. I didn't love the dough it was made of. It was kind of like an egg roll type, but it was a thicker dough. The filling was really good, & there was a good amount of it inside them. The rice was not very good. Some of it was hard. It was also dry. The chicken was tender, but had no flavor. The chicken for the sweet & sour chicken was not good. It was hard to chew & stringy. This was my first time try this place, & I'm afraid it will be my last. read more

Ambiance: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This place reminds me of those GREAT, hole in the wall Chinese restaurants in Queens NY. To the "uncultured" this place does not have "curb appeal". Service - always with a smile. Food: OUTSTANDING!!!!!! Prices: Extremely Reasonable!!! read more

I've eaten at this restaurant a couple of times and had good experiences, which is why I came back. Unfortunately, my last two visits have been very disappointing. The rice was undercooked and had a burnt taste both times. I wasn't happy with the food, but I still paid for my meal and ended up throwing it away because I couldn't eat it. After having the same issue twice, I won't be coming back. I hope they improve their food quality for future customers. read more

Awful. The crab rangoons were okay, but the beef and broccoli and vegetable chow mein were completely inedible. It was obviously not made fresh. The beef was rubbery and the chow mein noodles were flavorless and had probably been microwave. I ate one bite of each dish and that was all I could handle. I HATE wasting food but I threw it in the trash. Money and food wasted. read more

Really surprised with our order today as the Beef and string beans were cold, Kung Poa chicken was ask to be extra spicy however there virtually no spice, told chow mein had bean sprouts and all we got was cabbage with the shrimp. Have ordered here for years and has been great. This order was at 3:00 so not a busy time either. Not sure if I will try again. Really disappointed. read more

Always good when I want Chinese food. I like coming here for lunch and dinner. Would recommend

Got a flyer in the mail and decided wth, we'll try it. Real food, mom and pop. Best we've found in East valley. And very reasonable. Dining area bare bones, best for take out. Great food. read more

My boyfriend and I love this place and order takeout at least once a week! The portions are very generous and the prices are definitely modest for the quality and size of the meals and Joana at the counter is super nice! I definitely recommend trying the soups, the Wonton-egg drop mixed soup and the hot and sour are delicious! My boyfriend always orders their fried rice and scarfs it like a hungry Saiyan and I LOVE the Chicken Broccoli dinner combo! read more

Very standard, no frills food. Ready right on time. Excellent noodles but skimped on shrimp (like three pieces in what's called a shrimp dish). Three stars not because the food was bad, but because we opened out to-go container and immediately found a hair read more

We continue to look for a good Chinese restaurant. We have lived here for two years and have not been unable to find one. If anyone knows of one please send me a message. Based on the reviews and the ratings we thought we would try hot wok as we had just exited the Home Depot in the same shopping plaza. The reviews we had read did not seem to correspond with our experience. This business is a very basic Chinese restaurant. Certainly no thrills. Very plain interior. The meals are served on paper plates with plastic utensils. The order taker is very monotone. No greeting or anything. He could care less whether you eat there or not. My wife ordered the sweet-and-sour pork but as you can see from the picture all you get is breaded pork. No red peppers. No green peppers. No onions. No pineapple. It is served with a sweet-and-sour sauce in a separate container. I ordered the lemon chicken but it's just thickly breaded chicken. You get a side container of the lemon sauce. Not very appealing. Both orders came with a side of white rice on a paper plate. The food has no flavor. Very bland. We ended up leaving half of our food when we left. We just didn't find it appealing enough to continue eating read more

Its sad to see how downhill this place went. My Fiancé got food poisoning from bad chicken here and I was stuck picking up plastic shards from my food in order to eat it. Many corners are being cut here from the containers to the food quality... read more

The chicken fried rice was ok but I probably won't eat it again. I've never had "New York Style" Chinese before so this was my first time trying, it's not very flavorful like other restaurants. Also, not that this is a big deal but I thought the rice would come in a plastic white container, at least that's what advertised at the restaurant... but it came in a tin foil. read more

We ordered delivery on 2/20/2025 and had the General Tso's chicken with veggie fried rice, veggie egg rolls and hot and sour soup. The chicken and rice were horrible. Obviously left over and then microwaved as the chicken was so dry and even hard that we couldn't cut into it. The rice was apparently left over also as it was in some weird tasting sauce. The egg rolls had been fried in very old oil with a bad smell and taste. We threw away all the food except for the hot and sour soup which was good. We know it's bad when we won't even feed it to our dog. I understand cutting corners where you can but old food microwaved isn't bringing back any customers. Threw that menu away! read more

Our family loves Hot Wok Mr Cook. I use to come here once a month, around the time I would go to All Family Barber for a hair cut. Sadly All Family is closed, but I still enjoy stopping here for a take out order whenever I'm in the area. The food has a mostly east coast Chinese flavor to it, meaning it's has strong Szechwan or Sichuan influence. Szechuan is known for its slightly spicy taste. They use a lot of garlic and chili peppers, as well as Sichuan pepper in their food, which our family likes. We usually get Fried Pot Stickers/Dumplings, Szechwan Won Tons, General Tso's Chicken, Sweat & Sour Chicken and Pork Fried Rice. All of which were very good and it had only a mild, spicy kick to it. Expect to pay around $40, after their 10% Off coupon which is attached to their printed Take Out menu. See attached photos. read more

I went to hot wok to pick up lunch for myself and my colleagues. Everyone enjoyed it! I tried their spicy eggplant, and it was good and the portion was huge. Only issues? Some ordering snafus . Some people ordered from an old website, so their orders didn't get through and they had to get their payment refunded. Additionally, I had ordered some spicy dumplings and they weren't in the order.... But get this, I called, and they said they'd write my name down and I can come get them later. I didn't return for over a month but they still remembered me! In fact, they had my bill up on their computer! Anyway, I was impressed. read more

This place was my #1 go to place for NY style Chinese food for 4 years until one day I ordered an egg role and found a big rubber band type rope rolled up in my egg role. The service was great of course delivery was fast as usual BUT, That one experience has cost them a loyal customer for life. They have changed there cooks left and right. Whoever they had cooking back in summer of '20-'21 they need to get back . Also, you can tell there reusing oil especially with there fried chicken wings UGH I'm dreading writing this review this was hands down my favorite place to eat in the valley until I encountered that evil - nasty experience . NEVER AGAIN! I'll take my loyalty ELSEWHERE ! read more

Very basic, average and unimpressive establishment. Rice was dry and had more bite than it should and the shrimp dish was rather flavorless. Nothing but canned beverages available. Employees were very disinterested in providing any service. One is sitting at a table chomping loudly on potato chips and watching programs on his phone at a very high volume. I have found many hole-in-the-wall places that are great. This is not one of them. Just avoid it. read more

I ordered the Chicken Chow Mein, and it didn't even come with noodles. Last time I checked, chow mein was pan fried noodles, and all I got was chicken and vegetables, with very little flavor. If I wanted plain, unseasoned chicken and celery I would have just had dinner at my mom's house. Now I opened it and had to eat disappointment for dinner because they're closed. read more

It is what it is and they do a fine job. Close by the pricing is fine. Will visiting often.

I came in as I was craving A teriyaki chicken rice bowl and found this conveniently located, I appreciate they opened their door to me as I was earlier than their scheduled opening (10:50) they open at 11:00am. I ordered their large plate of teriyaki chicken which came fully loaded with vegetables and a side plate of white steamed rice as I could add as much or as little race to my meal as I wanted. A very pleasant lunch and environment. Warning egg drop soup is hot, very good!! read more

A solid 4* approaching 4.5* for me based on one delivery, and one take away order. We were craving "NY style" Chinese food, and I saw Georgie M.'s review, and further saw that they have shrimp toast, something that Scott and I both recall fondly from our "one from column A, one from column B" NY inauthentic Chinese food introduction, and that they delivered: sold! The order came very quickly, the driver was super polite, it was packed well, and except for the shrimp toast being a tad over cooked, and a missing soda, everything was perfect. They even offer the elusive won ton-egg drop soup mixed, and roast pork egg rolls which anyone who moved West will immediately recognize as hard-to-find from my photos. After our "let's recreate the 1970's" delivery meal, we ordered pick up with Mom, and she agreed that the food was reminiscent of days gone by. This time we also had dumplings, Mom had orange chicken, and I had a tremendous portion of Singapore Chow Mei Fun ordered extra spicy with extra curry, which was delicious and enough for two days of meals and snacks. The lady who worked there was so genuinely sweet, and gave us a Coke to replace the wayward one from our first order; the inside of the restaurant was clean and not at all divey to my prying eyes. We will be ordering again, and I'll try my go-to Ma Po tofu now that my trip down bastardized AmericoChinese food moment is over. Except for maybe shrimp toast...cuz it is so shrimpy and toasty, don't judge me!!! read more

Love this place ... As close to NY Chinese food as you can get! I definitely recommend.

Been here a few times and like it for multiple reasons. 1. Convenient 2. Good food 3. Good prices 4. Most entrees are enough for two. 5. They deliver. 6. They have coupons right on their menu. 7. Lunch specials. 8. Polite staff. And there are probably a few other things I may have overlooked. So thankful for the few people that originally posted reviews that brought me to this place. Even the recommendation for General Tso Chicken was right on. read more

I've visited Hot Wok quite a few times over the years. I used to work in the same plaza and would have lunch here weekly. Yang Chow was my go-to. Cashier was super sweet and always remembered my order. It's been a couple years since, but I've noticed they actually considerably improved. I ordered delivery for the first time and it was an excellent experience. They were early, left the food via contactless delivery, everything was packaged well and HOT. As is custom, too much food was ordered and we've had leftovers for days. It held up really well! Just polished off the last bit before starting this review. I had Sweet and Sour (pork), crab rangoon, Yang Chow, Wor Wonton Soup, and Egg Rolls (pork). Everything was so CRISPY! This was all clearly fresh-made right before delivery. Honestly the best Asian food I've had in a long while and I've been ordering takeout/delivery from various restaurants for a year now. Thanks Hot Wok! read more

Great food, reminds me of the Chinese food back home in New Jersey. My only complaint would be the guy who answers the phone and works the counter (Saturdays, not sure what other days he's there) should be nicer. He has absolutely no customer service skills and comes off as cold and stand-offish. read more

I am a big fan. I had passed by this place countless times with out giving it a try. It is now my goto chineese takeout option. The menu has many intresting options. We enjoy the eggplant dish packed full of flavor. The kids love the lo mein noodles and the tofu dishes are packed full of crispy triangles of tofu. My wife loves the sweet Mu shu veggies served with real wraps (not just tortillas.) Portions are generous and the prices are quiet reasonable. Pickup orders have always been ready in 30 min or less. It is nice that they include forks, mustard, soy, sweet and sour pakets and fortune cookies to make it a full meal. The online ordering on their site also makes it easy to repeat a good order. read more

Came out of Home Depot and was pretty hungry around dinner time. Pretty nondescript looking place but I thought I would take a chance. So happy I did! The food more than exceeded my expectations. This is legit authentic Chinese food that is very good quality. Good portions too and for a reasonable price. Very tasty. Wish I would have discovered this place sooner! read more

Hot Wok Tempe - Shrimp and vegetables with black bean sauce served with white rice. Really good! - Chinese Near Me - Tempe, Arizona

I love this place. I grew up near Chinatown in New York City and everything about this place reminds me of there from the standard selection of dishes to the actually Chinese owners to the quick cooking time & affordable prices. Recently tried Szechwan wontons for the first time & they were a revelation in rich sweet heat & umami. I love there sweet & sour Pork or Chicken for its light crunchy flavor. We often order the Vegetable Lo Mein and it is bountiful & delicious. I also enjoy their Spicy Garlic Eggplant and ask to add Fried Tofu & green beans for well rounded treat over white rice. Great food prepared fresh & fast for a rally reasonable price. read more

I was skeptical at first because the place looked dated and no one else was there to eat. Was greeted warmly and was given recommendations off of the vast menu. I ordered a small wonton soup and the eggplant chicken with garlic sauce. 10 minutes later a man (the cook I assume) brought me my food and thanked me for waiting. The food was delicious! Large portion enough for 2 hungry people. Full of flavor and not too salty. My takeout order has everything I needed including an assortment of sauces. I will be back for sure. This is a family owned business and I like to support those. read more

We ordered delivery, and the food was so hot and fresh!! Ordering online was very simple and wow the food was good. My favorites were the fried potstickers and honey chicken but the fried rice and Mongolian beef is amazing! Can't wait to go back. The best part of everything is the price! You really get a lot of food for very little price. read more

Second time we ordered from Hot Wok, figured we would give it another try. Ordered beef and broccoli and we thought the beef was chicken. Horrid taste and did not even resemble beef. Sesame chicken was okay. Hot and sour soup was very spicy, which overwhelmed the flavor. We like to support our local restaurants, but we are done here. The staff was very pleasant and even remade the beef and broccoli, but was the same as the first batch....basically threw both in the trash. read more
