Whole fish

I went to CHLOE in DC and honestly, I've walked past this place so many times and had no idea there was a gym inside. I love that they have a whole fried fish because the presentation alone is spectacular. They also had a featured menu, I'm not sure if it changes weekly or monthly, and my date got the curry shrimp which was honestly a really good size portion. I was super tired that day so we were kind of in and out, but I'd definitely go back. The drinks were good too. Cute place and solid service - loved the bread as well

Casual neighborhood vibe - great outdoor atmosphere although the best seat is at the bar where you can see the kitchen prep the most delectable sharables. Friendly for dg owners, great service, and fresh, tasty food carefully curated. The spices are creatively woven into the Newell plated dishes. Great for groups, take out and for a local meal. Vegan options! My favs by far - the penne pasta with pork ragout, and the Flat iron Minute Steak with shiitakes and the caramelized Cauliflower.

Chloe has some amazing reviews and the hype is real. Service is prompt and on the ball. My party and I never found ourselves with an empty glass or plate. Our server was wonderful and had wonderful food and wine recommendations. We landed on the pickle plate, little gem salad, grilled bread, gnocchi, and chicken. The pickle plate and grilled bread are both must haves. There's a little bit of everything and it's a great compliment to everything on the menu. The salad and hamachi were also delicious. Both were fresh with some bright and unique flavors. I had the gnocchi and the sauce was so tasty with the asparagus cooked perfectly. The chicken was extremely tender and came with a sticky rice accompaniment, which paired so well. We sat on the patio and it was wonderful. The weather was perfect and would highly recommend. Definitely will be back!

Fried Oysters

I visited on a Saturday afternoon. It was really busy, but we were able to snag a seat at the bar. Although busy, service was speedy. We ordered oysters for our appetizer, and I had the salmon dish for my entree. I am an oyster fan through-and-through! I will get them if I see them on a menu. Chloe's oysters were fried and the presentation was pretty. See pic. The batter on the oysters had just the right crispy effect. They were still juicy and not fried too hard. A bed a slaw beneath the oyster added to the crunch effect. The seasoning was perfect -- would definitely get again. The salmon was tasty too! Snap peas and potatoes were included with the dish. I would get this again too! Visit for yourself. Cheers!

Update! Still love Chloe. Stopped by for dinner and had a great time. It's still beautiful space and great for dinner or just for drinks at the bar. Service was great as usual. Here is a breakdown on what we had and my thoughts: The grilled house bread wasn't my favorite but mostly because it wasn't what I initially expected but it was fine. We traded it in for the spiced lamb hummus and that was the sweet spot for me. I will definitely be back for more of that. It was great for dinner and would also be great on its own with a drink at the bar. We also had the autumn potato gnocchi which was very pleasant and light with plenty of flavor. For our mains we had the spice roasted chicken which was solid overall. It was fairly tender with pretty good flavor and the sticky rice that came with it added a nice sweet note that I really enjoyed. We also had the flat iron minute steak with egg noodles and Thai basil. The steak was a bit chewy but the combination of flavors made the dish really enjoyable overall. To top it all off i had the warm chocolate hazelnut cake and it was amazing. You can't go wrong with warm cake and ice cream. I'll definitely be back for that. My two standouts this time around were the spiced lamb hummus and the warm chocolate hazelnut cake. Chloe does it again! I will be back!

This restaurant is just around the corner of the hotel I'm staying at. A friend and I came after work for dinner and really enjoyed the food. Had their special of the day which was a hamachi kama. I've had this dish many many times at a Japanese restaurant. This was one of my all time favorite versions. It was a nice big portion and the miso glaze was really well balanced. Cooked perfectly. Also had gnocchi and chicken which were really good. Finished off with the chocolate cake. Fantastic.

The food is so delicious and happy hour rocks. Happy hour is in the bar area and on the patio. Good food and drink options. We loved the cauliflower and the ricotta appetizers.

Went for HH (offered at bar or patio only) on a weeknight! This is a pretty solid option in the area for apps and drinks. The ricotta was truly the star of the show! I also really enjoyed the falafel. To drink, the pistachio espresso martini was my personal fave. Overall, a cute spot with nice service!

Such a cute restaurant and I loved the open kitchen concept. The small bites and plates were very tasty - highlights on the crudo, noodles under the steak, and crispy fish skin. Cocktails aren't super novel and service for the drinks were really slow. Overall, it was a good experience and a good date night / family spot.

We went to brunch for my birthday and all of the food was really good. The menu is made for sharing and the portions are small, which is nice for trying multiple things. However this makes the cost add up pretty quickly. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and the ambiance of the restaurant was nice.

We were hoping to eat at Albi, but the next available reservation was at 9:30 p.m., so we decided to go to Chloe instead and they didn't disappoint. We sat at the bar, and the bartenders were extremely polite. The drinks were amazing, and the food was delicious. We would definitely go back. We ordered the salad, hummus, potatoes, and steak. For drinks, I ordered a mojito, and my fiancée ordered a Manhattan. We started with the baby arugula, shaved fennel, and citrus salad, followed by the spiced lamb hummus and crispy fingerling potatoes. We finished with the grilled lemongrass flat iron minute steak.

Everything I had at Chloe was to die for! The falafel was crispy and flavorful, the drinks were delicious, the chicken was juicy and good. I truly have zero complaints. We came for brunch, I'd love to come another time for dinner. It's a cool spot with helpful staff and the ambiance is very chic. It never gets too loud but it's also not dead quiet either. I'll 100% be returning!!

This has now become one of my favorite DC restaurants! The service received was great, the restaurant isn't too crowded and is nice for both casual and date nights. The food is absolutely delicious! My favorite item on the menu is the whole fried fish, but everything I've had has been wonderful. The hamachi is so fresh and flavorful. The pork belly is so tender and meaty! I will definitely come back time and time again to try new things and experience seasonal items.

Can someone elaborate on vegan options for brunch or dinner? Unfortunately their menu does not have clear labels for substitution available or items already vegan. I assume potatoes and cauliflower are?

They don't have them listed on their menu but I have went with someone who was vegan and the waiter was able to give suggestions and swaps for some of the man dishes to accommodate - cant recall everything but she was happy with the dinner we had

Does the outdoor seating have heat lamps?

Yes.

Is the outdoor seating area comfortable now that is colder? I see they have heaters but are there enough to actually make it comfortable to eat outside during the winter?

Is outdoor seating heated?

Yes, they have heat lamps

Is there a kids menu?

No there isn't a kids menu

Is there a dress code for dinner?

No, not a listed dress code but it a nice interior I have seen people wear everything from jeans to a full suit. I typically do wear a nicer outfit as I typically come for dinner.

Does the outdoor seating have patio umbrellas?

Yes

Can I bring my dog to sit outside for dining?

Yes

Does this restaurant have private rooms or accommodate large parties and if so how many people?

You might call them and see but I didnt see any private areas. The tables are all in front right by the kitchen where they cook. It is very well done. Not slinging food and calling out numbers. They are quiet and you smell the delicious…

Do they still serve lunch?

No, but they serve brunch on the weekends.

That thoughtfulness is one of the many reasons I was excited to try it. When we arrived, I was initially concerned after learning that the "G" on the menu indicated dishes **containing** gluten rather than being gluten-free. Since many menu items were marked with a "G," I worried my options would be very limited, especially for the unlimited brunch experience. Thankfully, our server, Emma, immediately put me at ease. She brought me the food allergy menu, answered my questions with patience, and made sure I understood what was safe for me to enjoy. While my husband and I were deciding whether to stay, the manager, Antonio, came to our table after Emma shared my dietary concerns. His kindness completely changed the experience. He took the time to explain my options, offered to have the kitchen modify several dishes, and reassured me that their goal was for me to feel safe and enjoy my meal. Thanks to Emma and Antonio, what started with uncertainty became one of the most enjoyable brunch experiences I've had. I was able to enjoy a variety of delicious dishes, the mimosas were a great value, and the restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful, with floor-to-ceiling windows that fill the space with natural light. What I'll remember most, though, is how genuinely cared for I felt. Before we left, Antonio stopped by one last time to make sure I was happy with my meal and that all of my needs had been met. My husband had put so much love and intention into choosing this restaurant, and thanks to Emma and Antonio, we both left with happy hearts and full bellies. If you have food intolerances or dietary restrictions, I hope this review gives you confidence to visit Ambar. Their team didn't just accommodate my needs. They made me feel welcome, respected, and cared for. That's the kind of hospitality that earns five stars from me.

In short...Expensive but worth it…read more We were a party of four and we shared every plate. Here is a rundown of what we had: Humo cocktail - smokey and sweet. I liked it a lot. Don't be thrown off by the egg white. Try it. Bread - hot, flaky, delicious. Get it. Hamachi - citrusy, fresh, tasty Steak Tartare - It was just OK for me. Super savory but could have skipped it. Plums - this was one of the table favorites. Creative dish. The plums weren't too sweet and paired well with the other ingredients. Pickled eggplant - nice contrast to the other items. My wife's favorite. Leek Tart - cheesy and savory. Not as blown away as other reviewers but very good. Chorizo Dumplings - my son's favorite. But you're paying over $9/dumpling. Not sure it's worth it. Rice Pudding - weird name for essentially what is four jumbo shrimp over paella style rice. Very tasty but can be skipped if you're trying to keep the bill down. Massini - it was good but not a must get. Chocolate cake - the four us literrally ate this in like 20 seconds. It was amazing. Skip the other desserts and get two orders of this. All the appetizers were excellent. The patè was presented nicely with accoutrements of fig jam, cornichon, macerated tomatoes and bread. The mussels were offered in a Thai curry sauce but we asked for another serving option due to an allergy concerns. They offered us a white wine and garlic option and we gladly took it. The mussels were cooked very well, the flavor was clean and mild but could have used stronger seasoning, The fried calamari was executed perfectly. It was crispy, tender, flavorful with zero greasiness. The garlic tomato aioli accompanied the dish well. We shared the beef medallions as our entree and a side of fries because I spotted a server carrying fish and chips and the steak fries style potatoes were speaking to me. The steak was tender and flavorful and the Demi glaze brought the dish together. The fries were crispy and salty and wonderful, I'm glad I was inspired. First time here, and have been so looking forward to their Mid-Summer's Evening Market Dinner!!…read more From the moment of our arrival, we were treated like welcome guests in someone 's home. Hugs for my friends who are regulars, and a warm hello and handshake for me. After a brief wait for our table of ten, we were seated graciously, and the experience began! Water, drink orders and bread were brought, I think we had at least six or so people checking in, taking orders and refreshing glasses of wine, for those who ordered the $125 wine pairings to the $145 dinner, I was driving, so I ordered two glasses of wine - $22 and $18. The amuse bouche was a tiny BLT and a small glass of clarified gazpacho- never heard of that, but the liquid was clear with tiny bits of red and green peppers and was so flavorful! The first course was yellow corn panne cotta with a smear of jumbo lump crab - oh, wow! Almost my favorite course. My favorite was rockfish ravioli in a basil and clam broth - could have eaten way more than the three of those if it was a main, but they were generously sized!!! The third course, Chicken Ballantine, Summer Vegetables, Natural Jus, was a little strange - there was a small medallion of chicken breast that was, I think, ground and under cooked - spongy, wrapped in some veg, maybe bok choy?, and then wrapped in dried-ish chicken skin. A little like a sushi presentation, but cooked. It was accented by a tiny fried piece of chicken breast. That fried bit is all I ate. Dessert was divine - a peach that was really a construction of white chocolate, sponge cake inside and peach butter - nestled on meringue and other yummy things like a tiny scoop of peach sorbet - and a companion sorbet in a fruit liquid. By that time, my taste buds were so overwhelmed by deliciousness, I had to get dessert to go (sans sorbet). I had it for breakfast- what a treat!! Overall, a wonderful experience - only a couple of odd things - since we were 10, we asked for separate checks by couples - the server grumbled and complained about something about having to override their system from the time we asked for that until the time we paid the check. A few couples had to go to the bar to pay the check, until she was able to do a work around to let the last of us pay...after waiting for some sort of fix...and more grumbling. And, while I really appreciate that they provided small stands for our purses next to our chairs, I tripped over them while using the ladies, and getting seated on return when the sweet staff ran to follow us back in the room and tried to pull our chairs for reseating. We left with a sweet basket of a little brioche bread with lovely plum jam for each of us. So special!! I can't wait to go back - maybe for lunch time. Such a memorable experience!!

All of the drinks were good. For food I had the super lump crab cake omelet and my friends had the five napkin fried chicken sandwich, the shrimp & grits, and hanger steak and eggs. The omelet was good, filled with a decent around of crab. My friends enjoy the chicken sandwich and the steak and eggs. The shrimp & grits were a miss. My friend said there was a lot going on but the dish lacked flavor. Overall, it's an okay option for brunch if you're looking for something a bit more than what the downstairs diner has to offer. Solid choice before heading to a nearby event. I'll likely continue to stop by for late night happy hour.
