I visit Bas Rouge whenever I'm in Maryland and on the Easton shore. Always a special treat to eat here with friends and family. It can be hit or miss sometimes, but most of the time it's a hit. This night was especially good from the service to the food and the overall atmosphere. Everything seemed to be well timed and rehearsed. This was also my first time eating in the front dining room which I really enjoyed. The entire experience was a little over three hours. Never rushed and always remembered.

On our way back from the beach we paid a visit to our new favorite gourmet town on the eastern shore, Easton. Largely due to the Bluepoint Hospitality's presence placing some world class F&B outlets. It's almost too fabulous and you might ask where is the hotel? We heard it would be their next project! Exciting! Bas Rouge was an exceptional dining experience! The staff was on point with their service, female staff dressed in pink prada outfit and male in smart suits. Call it what you one, it enhanced the dining experience. We were seated by the large window seat when you had alot time on your hand you would look closely at every details, everything was well placed with purpose. The window curtains were elegant and art with fox on the wall. We had lunch that day. We started off with the lamb tartare and fluke crudo, never had a lamb tartare with such preparation it was so fresh and tender. The fluke was had a little crunch from the tobiko, fish had great texture and was balanced seasoning. Very refreshing for the hot summer. The shrimps were nicely charred and laid in a mango aguachile. The entree was the schnitzel it was also tender loved the lingonberries and potato salad. The duck confit was also very flavorful! For the dessert we went with a non chocolate i think it was apricot cake it was not too sweet went well with the vanilla ice cream. After lunch we had a tour of the other dining room inspired by Vienna it was so beautiful. We also toured other F&B outlets they were so well done with the interiors, I highly recommend visiting all of them!!

I love the special feeling you have eating food prepared with love. You can feel the delicate care each dish is created for a magnificent dinner. It is more of an experience than just dinner. My fiancé and I had Valentines dinner here and it was beyond perfect. Thank you. The amuse-Boucher set the night for a seafood forward dinner. Description on the pictures.

I chose to have my birthday at Bas Rouge, and it felt like such a special treat. Everybody dressed nicely. The restaurant is split into several rooms, and we ate in the front room. There were about six tables in the front room, so it felt intimate. They do have two tables outdoors on the sidewalk under the awnings. You can choose either a 3 course or a 4 course dinner. The menu shows only the appetizers or entrees, but dessert counts as one of the courses. The dessert menu comes separately. 4 courses means you choose 2 appetizers, 1 entree, and dessert. My husband and I chose to have four courses. The restaurant serves delicious and fluffy bread- during our visit, there were croissants, cheesy biscuits, and grain bread (and you can have as many as you want) and a small amuse bouche. They send you home with a treat too (we got small cakes). Needless to say, my husband and I were full to bursting at the end of our meal. The pacing is slow, since we left the restaurant 2 1/2 hours later. I believe the menu changes according to what is in season, so I won't go into details, but I have added photos to my review. We enjoyed our dishes, where we did have some favorites and some we could've gone without. We didn't choose to have a wine pairing, but they have an extensive wine list that is several pages long. We opted to have cocktails instead. They also serve coffee and tea at the end of the meal for an additional charge. Since it was my birthday, they treated us with an extra dessert!

Surprise! Where are we? Not what you might expect on Maryland's Eastern shore! Every detail was thought through and delightful. The menu is seasonal so hard to make a recommendation. I would say, don't miss the bread and try a slice of every one! Three courses are necessary or you are going to leave hungry.

I chose Ambar for my group, and I'm very pleased with our selection. Food Most of our group had dietary restrictions. Several of us were gluten free, and one person was both nut and seafood free. Ambar did an excellent job curating a menu that worked for everyone without making anyone feel like an afterthought. We opted for the Chef's Table experience, which included a spread tasting with veggie sticks and a variety of dishes that were clearly labeled and thoughtfully prepared: * Bean hummus - GF / DF / NF * Ajvar - GF / DF / NF * Balkan salad - GF / DF / NF (one prepared without feta cheese) * Baby carrots - GF / DF / NF (one prepared without tofu sauce) * Roasted peppers - GF / DF / NF * Cauliflower - GF / DF / NF * Baked beans - GF / DF / NF * Roasted lamb - GF / DF / NF * Stuffed pork belly "Sarma" - GF / DF / NF * Brussels sprouts - GF / DF / NF (one prepared without yogurt and bacon) * Seafood platter Everything was flavorful, well-seasoned, and beautifully presented. The meal was so delicious that I didn't even manage to get photos of everything, which rarely happens for me. Just know we dined very well and left completely satisfied. Service The staff was wonderful from start to finish. From the event team member who served as our account manager, to the chef, to the servers and wait staff, everyone was attentive and accommodating. They handled our dietary needs with care and professionalism and made sure our group felt taken care of throughout the evening. Pricing We paid a set fee that we were able to negotiate, and the final rate wasn't too bad for a group experience like this. Just keep in mind that there is an admin fee, a 20% gratuity, and taxes added on top, so be sure to factor that into your planning if you're booking a group event. Overall, I'd absolutely recommend Ambar for group dining, especially if you have guests with dietary restrictions. They made coordination easy, delivered great food, and created a memorable dining experience for our team.

Because of an unexpected change of plans, we decided to have a weekend dinner here, and it turned out to be a great decision - based on the food and service. What really worked for us was that the restaurant has a few outdoor tables, and the outdoor seating is dog-friendly. First, the restaurant has a pretty extensive menu with diverse options. I will admit that I was a bit overwhelmed when the waitress mentioned all of the specials for the evening. It seemed as the list kept going, going and going. Also, the restaurant has a dinner special for about 35 bucks that includes either a 3 course meal or a 2 course meal + a glass of wine. For my dining pleasure, I went with the baked (or maybe it was broiled) flounder that was served with potatoes and green beans. Overall, I thought my meal was absolutely delicious. I do wish the portions were slightly larger. Overall, I thought the service was absolutely wonderful. Our waitress was very friendly and constantly checked in with us to make sure everything was going well. Although we visited around 5:30 pm on a Saturday, I was a bit surpised with how crowed the restaurant became around 6:30 pm. If you are planning to visit around this time, I highly recommend making reservations even though this section of Wheaton can be relatively quiet. Also, the restaurant seems to be very popular with the eldery community. During our visit, I'd say the average age of diners was somewhere in the 60s.

The food then took around 25-30 minutes to come out, which felt very long since we were on a tight schedule for our flight. When the food finally arrived, I ordered the macaroni and cheese, and unfortunately it was the worst mac and cheese I've ever had. I don't want to be mean, but it was very bland and really needed salt. My sister surprisingly liked it, but it just wasn't for me at all. The rest of my family did enjoy their meals, and I thought the fries were decent, just lightly seasoned. My mom especially liked the grilled cheese. The waiter himself was nice and kept our drinks refilled, so I don't think the long wait was entirely his fault. The restaurant is very cute inside with cozy, old-style vibes and festive Christmas decorations, which I really liked. However, between the long wait times, the limited menu, and my disappointing mac and cheese, I wouldn't recommend that dish. Overall, it's a charming place, but the service was too slow for us--especially when trying to catch a flight.

The Henri checked off these criteria, and then some! One friend got there early and started at the bar. When we arrived 15 minutes later, we were seated in the dining room room right away. This was about 5:45 PM on a Wednesday night. The dining room room was maybe half full, and we could easily have a conversation without straining to hear each other. When one of us was scooting in our chair toward the table, we noticed soundproofing pads mounted under the tables...so that might account for the ability to hear one another. (Smart design!) I had The Henri Margarita, which was a beet infused casa del sol tequila with beet agave. OMG it was fantastic! My two friends tried mine and ordered one for themselves. Refreshing and delightful. They brought a small bread basket while we waited for entrees, and the sliced bread tasted homemade with a crisp crust and soft interior. Two of us had the Rockfish Imperial: rockfish with a seared crust, topped with lump crab meat, seasonal vegetables and potatoes, with a beet buerre blanc sauce. (Wouldn't that technically be a buerre rouge, then?) It was very well prepared, the seared crust excellent and well seasoned, fish cooked to perfection, and the caulilini (part of the vege medley) was a new vegetable that I've never had before and enjoyed! Not a crumb left on the plate when I was done. Our other friend had the classic Orange Glazed Duck Breast that came with fingerling potatoes and sunchokes. He enjoyed his very much as well. For dessert (and I'm sorry I didn't get the actual name of it) we shared a chocolate mousse cake with banana gelato. The cake was good, the gelato was delicious and refreshing, and the pairing was outstanding. The service was very attentive, and we didn't need to flag anyone down for anything. We even forgot to warn ahead that we had a show to go to! They were able to split the check in thirds, and we were able to check out with plenty of time to head across the street to the theater. The major hiccup we experienced was my gluten free lamb shank pasta being sent to the vegetarian sitting at the table next to us. Watching this unfold and the server's exasperated reaction was very awkward. That being said, the manager (or maitre d?)'s graceful handling of the situation thereafter was great. He told us what happened, played it off well, explained that it would be a bit of a wait for our next course as a result, and ended up comping all our wine. Really classy touch. However, even after the long wait for the pasta, it was ultimately under-salted under-seasoned and not impressive at all. As much as I appreciate the gluten free option, I wish I had just gotten something else especially after all that trouble! The rest of the service throughout the night was also oddly paced. We ordered less courses than last year (only three) but we were there for almost four hours. Tables around us who arrived after us were served their first courses before we even had a chance to order. We were asked to pick out a wine first before choosing our food and since we weren't sure what we were eating, we weren't ready to select a wine. Even just getting the food menu took a bit of waiting around. Our server didn't inquire about any food allergies either so it was tough making decisions when I wasn't sure what was gluten free - and this was an allergy that was noted in our reservation, too. At another point, I asked for a glass of red wine three different times until finally the maitre d grabbed it for me after the pasta debacle happened. As for the rest of my meal, the scallops and lobster soup were both yummy but not anything life changing. However, my boyfriend's lamb chop dish was very very delicious. The one bite I had, paired with the pomegranates, was heaven. By the way, they offer gluten free bread service too. Has the Charleston lost their touch after the recent James Beard press? I'm not sure but I do hope they step things back up again. You come to expect a little more from an institution like this, especially after being totally blown away last year.
