Went here with friends for dinner. I got the fish egg don, the others got bento boxes with teriyaki chicken or basil chicken. To start with, the atmosphere is lovely. It wasn't a busy night, but to be fair, it recently opened. It'd make a nice place to have lunch or dinner with friends. I recommend the community check it out. They offer an assortment of menu items. I think the variety for each menu category is good. Although I didn't get the basil chicken, it was well-seasoned and moist; however, this is bone-in chicken, so it may be an issue for some that prefer their food without bones. Usually I have an issue with teriyaki chicken because it usually comes dry for me, but here I didn't not have a problem with the chicken being dry. Additionally, their bento box menu items give you a lot of food and is fairly cheap. I liked the aesthetic of my fish egg don. It tasted as it should and I believe the rice was sushi rice, so it was very similar to a poke bowl. One concern is that their ramen choices all use pork broth. There are plenty of ramen recipes that are typically vegan or vegetarian, but to have shoyu or miso ramen with pork broth is bad for customers who can't have pork or meat. I would say im a picky eater when it comes to Asian food. I ended up ordering mostly off of the sushi menu and was not disappointed. All rolls i tried each had their own unique taste. The dynamite roll was crunchy thanks to the deep fry. The sumo roll used an alternative to seaweed wrap. Monster roll was huge (12 pieces) and a great bang for the buck. Sushi tasted fresh. Sauces on top were strong but complimented the flavors. I sampled many of the appetizers, each one tasted better than the last. The fried calimari had the right consistancy and firmness you would expect, the breading was superb. Takoyaki had flakes on them that danced on the hot octopus balls. Fried chicken bun was so soft like a babys bottom, chicken was fried to satisfaction, simple but well done. TLDR: Appitizers and sushi here are great, no regrets! read more

My family stopped into Sakura for a late dinner when our intended destination happened to be closed. Sakura is the Japanese term for blooming cherry blossoms and they really play this up in both the decor and the food presentation. I really like their giant wall mural, but the fake trees are a bit much. Service is friendly enough. Kids ordered ramen, gyoza, and chicken buns. They were all A ok, but not outstanding. Husband and I shared a 3 roll combo. First, I was a bit concerned about quality where you can get X rolls of varied types for Y dollars (no price difference between sweet potato and tuna for example). We are tired of waiting for the new hot pot place, so decided to try this Chinese Skew BBQ place, so glad we did. We ordered lamp, beef, pork belly, chicken, tofu and chive skew bbq. All flavored very we, not overpowered but tasks. My husband ordered a spicy chicken sandwich and he really enjoyed it. The food here is really tasty. It is on par to other Chinese bbq skewer restaurants I have tried like Fatni on coit and park. The atmosphere of this restaurant was nice and airy and the staff here was extremely helpful trying to give us a big table for our family of 4. The menu here was pretty basic and self explanatory with pictures of all the skewers you can order on one side and noodles and appetizers on the other. Beware however, the price can add up fast. We came and just ate however much we thought we would need to get full and our total for 4 ppl quickly added up to over $100. 13 year old here. I'm not here to say my palette regarding Chinese food is excellent but I believe that it's hard to find a good place that pleases a group of 8 (disclaimer they were not all 13). I think that it's safe to say that this is the best Chinese food I've ever had and coming from an Asian household that says a lot. My Ahma (who was born in Asia) left saying "I'm so full". You'll leave this place with a splendid attitude and a new found respect for review written by 13 year olds. I love how Sakura Chinese BBQ opens til 2AM and their workers aren't even cranky! They're supa nicce! The meat skewers definitely reminds me of one of my fav places, Fat Ni. The service was so great, the ladies working there tonight explained everything to us with such patience. Previous Yelps of this business led me to believe this was a Chinese/Japanese American food eatery, but when I drove up to the restaurant, it appears to have undergone a transformation into a much more authentic Chinese street food experience, namely skewers--a dining option which I consider better than its previous incarnation. So if you've just swung by looking for a ramen/sushi/stir fry joint, this won't be the Sakura you were looking for. I was met by a friendly hostess at the door, who asked if I could read a native menu (which I didn't); she then handed me an English menu and sat me at a table. Most of the Chinese skewers offerings I was familiar with/available at other skewers joints were listed on the menu at relatively competitive pricing; so I requested my usuals (lamb, tendon, pork belly, enoki mushrooms) along with grilled squid legs, fried oysters, and a vegetable. After bringing a small tray of boiled peanuts, the hostess had some language troubles trying to communicate to me that a couple of greens listed on their menu weren't available. Rather than selecting a replacement, I just omitted them to spare her from an on-the-spot Google translate. I'm pleased to report that the skewers, which arrived at my table one at a time, tasted great. While I requested spicy seasoning on all grilled items, I'm happy to say that the food came seasoned just right--not too salty, not too hot. And while my hostess/server was glad to hear I enjoyed the food, she was concerned if I knew that the pork belly skewer was a very fatty cut--I had ordered 2, and only 1 skewer was brought out. After I assured her that I was more than okay with it, the missing skewer quickly landed on my plate. Given my Friday mid-afternoon visit, it seems that only a small number of folks might be in-the-know about this skewers restaurant. But having dined at the competitors, word of this new entry will eventually spread, and this place will likely be bustling with patrons very soon. Altogether, Sakura Chinese BBQ was a fantastic chance discovery and I hope to be back this way again for more skewers love. read more

It certainly doesn't look impressive from the outside, and even the inside is a little under decorated, but the service and food is absolutely stellar. The flavors of the skewers were fantastic. There's alot to choose from, the highlights of our meal were the beef, a choy, beef tendon, and the wings. We also tried the beef fried rice and the takoyaki, fabulous as well. There were some other options besides the skewers, fried rices, some soups and hot pot-ish stuff. I don't think this place is well suited for kids, but they could possibly enjoy it. During our visit, we also bought a tower of kirin ichiban for a really reasonable price, I think it was like 17$ This is a really great place to visit with friends and talk through the evening. Order some skewers, talk some more, order again... The food comes out really fast, so don't be afraid to order a little at a time. read more

A friend recommnded us to try out a new Ramen place , close to an Indian Restautant we used to visit. At first look, we noticed a small entrance with two tiny windows and a signboard. Have to say I was little dissappointed with the frontal view. Inside of the restaurant is clean, nicely decorated and looks pleasant. We tried Ramen noodle. Noodle was amazing, bowl was huge, and full of flavor. They have great selection of Sushi along with wonderful choices of Bento boxes. I tried beef brisket bento. Amazingly delicious! This place is ok. The service is spotty. And the table was a bit sticky when we sat down. Both really bad indicators of how the meal was gonna go. We tried an array of things since this is our first time here. I had the ramen, ok. A bit greasy. My sister had some sashimi. That looked fresh and she didn't complain about it, which means it was good. My mother had the sushi. She was expecting larger rolls. And the Futomaki was missing an ingredient or two that she's used to from other places. My mother also ordered the roe rice. It's a favorite of hers, the general consensus was that it was good. But definitely not in the top 10. And of course, my mother thought that we didn't order enough food, so she insisted on order some tempura. That was blah. Oh well. Too bad. Fatni BBQ, there's a new competition for you. So I'm a big fan of Chinese BBQ Skewer. However, it looks like Fatni was the only place in DFW area that offer decent Skewer. However, me and the Sweetie recently discover this new place in Plano and not only their Skewers was really good. The other dish they had are also awesome. My favorite one is the Tomatoes spicy Beef rice noodle. They are not cheap with the meat, they give so much meat and the soup just taste awesome. In addition, other places charges chicken soft bone for 13.95-15.95 and the portion was small. However, they only charge 9.95 for chicken soft bone and their portion is way more than the one you get from else where. So when I really want Chinese BBQ skewer in the future. Came here on a Sunday night and it wasn't super busy. Granted, the service was excellent as the waiter checked up on us multiple times. This plate served great bbq skewers and had good entree options. Ordered lamb, beef, A-Choy, small beef, Chinese Sausage, and Thin Tofu skewers. I would highly recommend the A-choy and lamb skewers, my personal favorites. All the skewers we ordered were seasoned amazingly (with just the right amount of spice) and they were cooked so that if there was meat on the skewer, it was tender too. The menu selection was vast. I had the chance of trying beef fried flat noodle too. The portion size was pretty decent for its pricing. The only downside of a case menu selection is that a lot of the menu items don't have pictures. However, I ordered something along the lines of a beef noodle soup (I don't quite remember the name) and there was a nice umami flavor to it. All in all, I would highly recommend the skewers here if you were to order anything. read more
