The food was so good. Like SO good ! I ordered fish soup with pickled vegetables and it was so delicious. We also order dumplings in hot spicy oil (which were DELICIOUS !!) , eggplant in garlic sauce and string beans. The string beans were okay, they tasted better mixed with the eggplant sauce. The eggplant was SO good ! It was my first time trying eggplant and it was really so good, especially in the sauce. The texture was creamy almost and the flavor melded well. The workers were very nice and service was fast ! It took no time for the food to come and it was so fresh. The vibe was relaxing and slightly quiet but they had music playing and me and my friends had no trouble yapping and laughing. The food was much spicier than expected. Even after requesting minimal spice, the dishes were still very spicy for our taste. I also did not enjoy the cumin seasoning on the beef short ribs--it was quite overpowering and reminded me more of the flavor profile of lamb skewers. The portion sizes were on the smaller side as well. That said, the food quality was good overall, and people who enjoy bold, spicy flavors will likely love it. This is a lovely, locally owned Szechuan restaurant with the most kind and friendly service. There were several tables where the traditional family style service of Chinese dishes take place. We ordered the steak and tomato stew, kung pao chicken, eggplant with garlic and stir fried green beans. Everything was very good quality and flavor. The decor was nice and I enjoyed the chalkboard with the Chinese and English descriptions of the dishes and the lovely artwork. We would definitely return. read more

I never realized this place was hidden in this plaza until I found it on Yelp! I'll get right to it and rate the dishes I tried. Szechuan fish soup: 5/5 - this was the best version I've had anywhere. The broth was very flavorful with just the right amount of spiciness. The bite-sized pieces of fish were catfish I believe which is better than tilapia in my opinion. I couldn't get a photo since we devoured it so fast Dan Dan Noodles: 3/5 - the noodles had a nice chew to them, but the dish was slightly lacking in flavor, compared to others I've had. Mapu tofu: 3/5 - there was no ground pork in this dish, which I think would've added a lot of flavor. Eggplant with garlic sauce: 3.5/5 - this is usually one of my favorite dishes but again this dish was lacking in flavor, a bit compared to some other places. Spicy dumplings: 2/5 - this was my least favorite dish that we tried. It was bland and the wonton wrappers were breaking apart. Overall, Chongqing House was good but I prefer the taste of all these dishes at Wu Wei Din or Royal Szechuan (with the exception of the fish soup). Pros: Pricing was reasonable which is rare to find these days. The service was attentive. Cons: Music was a bit loud for lunchtime conversations. read more

You know there's a level of authenticity when the woman answers the phone in Mandarin, can't understand much in English, and then gives the phone to who I'm presuming to be her husband, and his English is slightly better. Aside: English or little English, the woman incredibly polite and friendly. Upon entering the restaurant, all 5 tables occupied are mainland Chinese patrons speaking Mandarin. Green beans - decent. Orange Chicken - dark meat option only, and sadly Panda Express is better but this is definitely edible. Lacked a little sweetness, and crispness. Lunch today at Chongqing House in Plano. This is an authentic Szechuan restaurant that also has an Americanized Chinese lunch special menu and some Americanized items on the main menu. We ordered all authentic dishes. We started with their hot and sour soup, which was a bargain at $8.99 for a very large bowl. It was enough for 6 people at least, maybe 8. The soup was ok. Heavy on the white pepper but not enough black vinegar. There was a generous amount of pork in the soup. Definitely not my favorite version of this soup. We ordered two mains. Mapo Tofu and the Chongqing style chicken in pepper. The mapo tofu was good, but not as good as we had at Sichuan Folk. This dish had less ground meat, but it was tasty. The chicken dish was more like popcorn chicken. Mostly batter covering small bits of chicken. The Szechuan peppercorn powder in the batter was really overpowering. I like the hot and numbing experience but this seemed over the top. The best dish was the steamed A-Choy in garlic sauce. The leaves were crisp and flavorful. The white rice was very good. I don't usually comment on the rice but this was a high quality rice. My Filipino wife was impressed and that says a lot. The restrooms were clean. Overall it was good but I probably won't return. There are dozens of Szechuan places popping up all the time in Plano and Sichuan Folk is my favorite. read more

I think their Kung Pao Chicken is one of the best, and the sautéed beef and onion was good too, sweet with flavor. But again a lot of onions and less beef. The wonton soup in chicken broth was alright, I wish there was a bit of ginger in the wonton or more salt in the soup as this lacked some flavor for me. The owner/chef was born and raised in Chongqing China 重庆 He makes his own chili oil ( La Jiao) It's used to give his cuisine the smoky spicy home town flavors: unmistakable and so hard to find. Being British I know what good Chinese food is all about, but having lived in the States for almost 30 years the Chinese food in this country is just OK. However ..... Chongqing House surprised me! not only is the food very good, but they have some great spicy dishes on the menu to which I'm a huge fan of. I have ordered take out twice and dined in once, on all 3 occasions the food has been extremely good. The staff are very friendly and helpful when it comes to recommendations and the restaurant itself is very clean, it is situated in an Asian plaza (Ranch 99 etc..) which is conveniently close by. I cannot recommend enough, if you like Spice or you want to try something other than General Tso's chicken you have to check this place out. read more

So the folks that complain this place isn't good probably doesn't have patience or know how to order authentic Chinese food. This is my second time coming to this restaurant. I swear this place makes me a fatty because I order so much here. Obviously fantastic food & excellent service. Chongqing Style Diced Chicken W. Chi Sauce - 5/5. Good crispy exterior with sichuan peppers & peppercorns that leave That good numbing feeling in your mouth. It's also not greasy even though the chicken is very moist Orange chicken - 5/5. The dark color on the chicken indicated a very good caramelization with the orange sauce. It does have peppers so there's a slight kick. Walnut Shrimp - 5/5 There's a cute walnut on top but the shrimp kind of floats inside the crunchy shell and when you dip it with the white sauce, it's just a lovely mellow sweetness. Spicy Pork Intestines - 4.5/5. I'm a bit biased because I'm not a pork intestine type of person but it's very good. Nice chewy texture and has that good oily sichuan spice to it. Dan Dan noodles - 4.5/5. Excellent chewy flavor that makes you know the noodles are made there. The meat is a great rich spicy that slowly permeates the noodles giving that slow heat. Chinese Yam W. Black Fungus - 5/5 Good rich taste that starts off mellow and you start tasting the aroma of the mushroom. There's also a fairly generous serving of other vegetables that just compliments each other. I am a huggeee fan of Szechuan cuisine, and we are so incredibly lucky to have several amazing restaurants that serve up traditional Szechuan dishes. Chongqing House is new to us, and we plan to become regulars because our meal was perfection. One thing to keep in mind is the dishes are served family style, so bringing a group is best. We ordered 3 dishes, and left with a ton of leftovers enough for another meal or two. We ordered: Fried Chicken with Szechuan Peppercorn - this is my husband's favorite dish. It is crispy boneless chicken sautéed with slightly numbing Szechuan peppercorn, red dried chilis, garlic, and spices. This was prepared expertly - the chicken was very crispy but not oily and every bite was coated with lovely spice. It's a big portion, so plenty for sharing Boiled Chicken and Beef with Spicy Peppercorn Sauce - this is my favorite dish, I always get it when we go out for Szechuan. The fish fillet and beef strips were so tender, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. The sauce was very flavorful, and just spicy enough to have a bit of a runny nose but not enough that you are drinking more water than eating food. The sauce is also slightly numbing, spicy, garlicky, and just delicious! I would highly recommend this dish, it is so good! Eggplant with Garlic Sauce - we ordered this as our veggie dish. I love well prepared eggplant and this was so good! It is garlicky, soft, and so flavorful. I could have eaten the entire thing as a meal on its own. We planned to try other vegetables on our next visit, although it would be hard to stray from this one. This place is going in our rotation. Hands down one of the best experiences at Chinese restraints in Dallas. We loved the Dan Dan noodles, pork shredded with garlic sauce and roast fish (which has plenty of veggies). Huge portions- you will have leftovers- and I'm not complaining. Noodles aren't as good when it's leftover so we finished that first. Super nice balance of savory sauce, minced pork, green onions, more sauces are on the bottom so you really want to mix it up well. The pork with garlic was really amazing as well. Super impressed. The roast fish had two small sized fish instead of the usual one big fish. This place is not playing. The ma po tofu made my entire mouth and throat tingle for a good hour after I finished eating it. ... which is EXACTLY what is supposed to happen. So whenever I move to a new place or travel to a new city, I look for two things: the best ma po tofu, and the best bubble tea. KFT has the latter covered so I've been searching around Plano for the best ma po tofu for a while, and I think this is it. I cannot comment on the ambiance of the restaurant since, you know, COVID. I ordered via Grubhub and the food arrived warm and on time. The ma po tofu here comes in those tall plastic soup containers, which means the portions are huge. AND it looks bright red when you open it. Perfect. What does this mean? It means they use real, authentic Sichuan peppercorns. Those spicy little things make your mouth tingle in a sensation we call "ma la". The tofu is also drowning in a soupy mixture of oily goodness. To ANYONE who is grumbling about their food being too oily, know this: Sichuan cuisine is SUPPOSED to be oily, and if it's not, you're not eating the real stuff. Can't wait to order more from Chongqing House. The eggplant in garlic sauce is already calling my name. read more

I tried the Beef Tripe with Chili Sauce appetizer and Spicy Boiled Two Kind during lunch today. There were only 2 other tables besides me and the waitress was prompt and responsive in her service. The table/seats was comfortable and the temperature in the restaurant was just right. The Beef Tripe with Chili Sauce was really good, and it paired very well together with the bean sprouts, very tasty and not too spicy. For the Spicy Boiled Two Kind, I had beef and intestines. The beef was soft and tasty and the intestines were very clean and tasty, and I enjoyed the hot sauce with the white rice. Overall, the food that was served today was better than many other Szechaun restaurants that I've been to in the area and I would certainly return to try out more dishes. read more
