One of our fave spots for delicious home-style Chinese food in the Plano area. Our favorite staples are on the menu (fish fragrant eggplant, green beans, snow pea shoots, cumin lamb, salt and pepper fish, spicy cod fillet, laziji) as well as some less common items like the beef tendon spicy dry pot. Really hard to go wrong with any of the dishes here, so it's no wonder it's always busy when we go. Very easy to call ahead at less busy hours and make a reservation during peak meal times! I have had the strangest dining experience here at this restaurant today. The food, most of it was amazing, the service, not so great. There was no wait to grab a table for lunch for me and my dining partner. The dining area was quite large, and they have two private dining rooms off to the side. The first struggle was they have no hard copy menu, as they request that you scan a QR code to see the menu on your wireless device. Some of us don't embrace technology and that is okay. To make up for the lack of hard copy menus, they offered to let us use their tablets to peruse the menu. The service itself was lackadaisical, although the food came out quickly, and steaming hot (yay!). It took forever to get water refills to the point that I got up and refilled our glasses myself. Also, no condiments on the table, so I also had to grab those. We started out with an order of the scallion pancake, which was tasty and abundant. Then we ordered two of the Chang's dumplings which were out of this world amazing! The dumplings were soft and the spicy sauce they were in was delectable! For our entrees, we ordered Deep Fried Chicken with Roasted Chilis, the Basil Eggplant, Salt and Pepper Shrimp, and an order of their Shrimp Fried Rice. The Deep Fried Chicken with Roasted Chilis arrived, and while the chicken itself was amazing, the plate was mostly roasted chilis and not enough chicken. I chose this dish having seen serveral other tables order, and their dishes were brimming with chicken. Our, not so much. The Basil Eggplant was incredible. The flavor and the crispy outside make this dish great!! The Salt and Pepper Shrimp was a disaster. Most Asian eateries that I have been to, the shrimp are ginormous, with a light batter, and one of my favorites. At Sichuan Folk, the shrimp were heavily battered, extremely greasy, and the shrimp themselves were tiny, evidenced after removing the super thick batter. Do not order this dish. The shrimp fried rice was an extremely enjoyable surprise. The texture of the rice was fantastic, and the amount of shrimp, peas, carrots and egg was generous. Definitely will order this again. The service is what really surpised me the most. We didn't feel welcome, as we had to ask several of the waitstaff for silverware, napkins, and bowls to mix our soy sauce and chili paste. Those Chang's dumplings and the Basil Eggplant, along with the Shrimp Fried Rice are enough to make us want to come back and give it another try, after researching the menu some more. read more

The fish maw (swim bladder), cumin lamb, and ox tongue were delicious. They were seasoned well and the meat was tender. The sesame chicken had too much breading. The spicy crispy chicken laziji and scallion pancakes were very bland. The fried pork belly with green onion used bacon instead of regular pork belly (not what I expected). The green beans and mapo tofu were good. The portions were big. I would come back again for sure, but some of the dishes need more seasoning. read more

I do not come as often after this restaurant moved further north (now at Legacy). The biggest improvement is the ordering experience. A quick QR code scan brings up a picture of everything on the menu, and it lets you review/change what you have in the cart before submitting the order. This is helpful for me since their plates are very generous and I tend to order more than I should. Food quality has been very consistent in all these years, staff very friendly and efficient. Prices look reasonable but somehow I always end up with a bill bigger than I had planned. Overall I still consider this the best Si Chuan in the area. read more

How this place doesn't have 5 stars is beyond me. Our China-born & raised friend took us Sichuan for a food experience - and it did not disappoint. The ordering process was unique (scanning the QR code & ordering for the entire table). We ordered approximately 8 dishes, and not one single food item disappointed us. Every item was unique, full of flavor depth, spice, and ingredients we don't often get to experience in American-Chinese restaurants. I can't wait to go back for the dumplings, twice cooked pork, and lo mein. *I will say that I do have a severe/life threatening allergy to shellfish. My friends did have to speak mandarin to convey the allergy concern and ask about cross-contamination possibility on a few items. I'm not sure that without a fluent speaker I would have been able to confidently eat a few items. 10/10 will be back! Come with an empty tummy & maybe hold off if you have chapped lips! My only complaint is that we didn't bring more people to come eat with us! Although, between the three of us, I think we did an excellent job! It was my first time, but my bro & sil loves this place. We came in for an early lunch on a Sunday and were seated right away. They ordered their usuals which were the deep fried fish w roasted chili, pork with bamboo shoots, and eggplants. I've been looking for a go-to Sichuan place in Dallas, having just moved from Houston and relying on Mala for all my Sichuan cravings. My friend recommended Sichuan Folk, and I finally got a chance to try them last weekend! My experience is only for take-out orders, but wow was I impressed! First of all, the service was friendly and quick. I waited just 10 minutes for my order on Saturday at 5 pm. I got the deep fried chicken with chili and spicy tofu and fish fillet. The portions were so generous - it fed me for several meals! I would opt for a higher spice level for the fish fillet, but the chicken was perfectly spicy and crispy. I imagine everything would taste even better fresh. I would definitely come back to try more of their menu! read more

FOOD: We ordered the cucumber salad, Basil Chicken & Kung Pao Chicken. My daughter liked the cucumber salad and her Basil Chicken. The Kung Pao chicken had big chunks of ginger in it & was not close to what I am used to in Kung Pao. ATMOSPHERE: The whole place is very sterile, boxy & cold. Seating is wherever you choose. SERVICE: The menu is a QR code (way past COVID, so why?). After you submit your order, someone comes to confirm your order. My daughter had to go get the larger boxes to put the entrees in. That was not received well by the staff, but we asked 3 people for bigger to-go containers. Any Sichuan place that has cucumber salad, soup dumplings and string beans, I'm always getting them to compare. Cucumbers here were cold and refreshing but lacked flavor. We added so much chili oil and only the pieces with lots of garlic on them were good. Soup dumplings are very different from other places. Their filling is way more seasoned than the others and the skin a bit too thick for my liking. Green beans were good but slightly overcooked. The deep fried chicken was honestly the best dish we got! Super crispy and perfectly seasoned. The Sichuan peppers weren't too numbing and it wasn't overly spicy. Please pass on the beef noodle soup... it was a huge salty portion and the beef wasn't the most tender. I liked the noodles in them but can only recall the salt! Went back to Sichuan Folk and ordered some different items than we had previously ordered. We still got the mapo tofu because it's my favorite dish and this place does it better than anywhere else. We also got the soup dumplings (Xiao long nap or XLB). These were excellent and huge. So big in fact that they didn't fit on the spoon. They give you what looks like soy sauce but it's a black vinegar mix that you use with the soup dumplings. We also ordered the fried fish filet in spicy pepper. Wow this was delicious. All the food is naturally spicy and extremely delicious. This is authentic Sichuan food served in a modern and appropriately brightly-lit dining room with very kind wait staff. The lamb in the lamb with cumin sauce was very tender and my wife said the flavor in the cumin sauce reminded her of the flavor of hot dog chili and I can't unhear it now lol. She's absolutely right but I still loved it. The dry fried green beans were salty, perfectly al dente, and super garlicky. The soup dumplings were of a flavor profile I never had before, unique, and perhaps a family recipe, but either way I can't wait to go back and have more. This is Sichuan Folk's new location! We came by on a Wednesday for lunch around 12:30 pm and it was pretty busy with only a few open tables. The new location is pretty spacious with plenty of tables for both average parties and large groups. Luckily we were able to be seated immediately. Their menu and ordering system are all digital which can be accessed by scanning the QR code at the table. They serve authentic Szechuan cuisine. While they have a whole separate section on their menu for Americanized Chinese food, their specialty are their Szechuan dishes. We ordered minced beef with egg white soup (西湖牛肉羹), A vegetable (A菜）, hibachi frog (铁板牛蛙), spicy chicken with chili sauce (椒麻鸡). The rice needs to be ordered separately. We wanted to try their non-spicy dishes today. Warm water is available upon request, but the water tasted weird (probably tap). Some dishes have to be pre-ordered by calling ahead given limited supply and how long it takes to cook. The food came out pretty fast. The soup came out first steaming hot. Wasn't too salty, not much meat, plenty of mushrooms and egg whites. The hibachi frog looked amazing; the meat was fresh, tender, and flavorful, and is served on a hot plate. There's just a teensy bit of spice to add flavor but not enough to burn. The chicken is a cold dish and was very numbing. Some of the meat was a bit overcooked, but the meat soaking in the sauce was tender. The chicken has jalapeños sitting on top but the dish isn't spicy (as long as you don't eat the jalapeños). The A vegetables were alright, not too salty. Everything was pretty good. None of it was spicy. Despite that I've had their spicy food for takeout before and if you can handle it, I highly recommend their spicy dishes over non-spicy ones. read more

When I came to this restaurant. Every single table was full. Despite this, we were seated as a walk in within 20 minutes. The table turnover time was less than 1 minute. Immediately we were greeted and had drinks. We ordered and the waiter came by to confirm. The entrees came out maybe 20 minutes later and the food was piping hot. Everything was very flavorful and the portions were so large that my wife and I could only finish the dumplings and took the rest home for dinner. Finally found my favorite Sichuan restaurant in DFW! All of the food that we ordered were great. I went there twice already in a week. My favorite dish is their fish dish. I don't remember the exact name but this fish dish was delicious - not too oily or spicy but great texture and flavor. Snow pea leaves were perfectly cooked too. My uncle took us here for a quick lunch before the solar eclipse. The lunch specials here are way too generous: less than ten dollars for a full sized dish. For three people, it meant we paid $30 to get three full sized dishes to share! I assumed it was going to be served with rice on the same plate so we'd each have our own, but it was served family style. Love the cumin sprinkles that adds a strong aromatic flavor. FAVE! -Steamed Whole Fish (Tilapia): WOW! BLEW ME OUT OF THE WATER! Highlight of the dinner. Menu specified as "live fish" in Chinese; we assumed this meant prepared fresh from a tank in the back as we didn't see tanks in the front? Steep price at $36... BUT probably BEST prepared tilapia I've had from a restaurant in awhile. Great for special occasions like holidays! Steamed JUST RIGHT where all parts of fish were soft and tender, and sauce had the perfect blend of soy sauce & cooking wine that permeated well into the entire fish. Now downside... Rice isn't complimentary at $1/bowl, but for 5 of us, rice came consolidated in a standard tub, and they even refilled it when it reached half empty. Casual dining. I really enjoyed this place as it serves great, authentic Sichuan Chinese food! I came here for dinner with some friends and we got the Mapo tofu (麻婆豆腐), dry fried string beans (干煸四季豆), twice cooked pork (回锅肉), farm house beef (农家小炒牛), and deep fried fish with roasted chili (重庆辣子鱼). The taste and quality of all the dishes were amazing and I could recommend all of these dishes to anyone. My favorite dish was the deep fried fish with roasted chili, it's not crazy spicy but the fish was fried perfectly on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. The interior is pretty spacious with plenty of seating and the restaurant was not super busy when we went. They have a few tables that can fit big parties, like 8+ people. You order by scanning the QR code on the table and ordering the dishes off your phone. The service was pretty quick, but we did have to wait a while for the deep fried fish to come out.
